I don't know what's better: the bangin no-nonsense intro, the speaker noise blast at 1:23 (I wish I knew what I was talking about), or the groove riffs on the 2nd half in general, or the explosive breakdown at the end EDIT: apparently it's amp feedback. I adore the amp feedback at 1:23

I wouldn’t really consider this straight hardcore punk, It has way more in common with metal, punk fusion genres like Metalcore (though I hate to admit it) and Crust Punk.
@@goner.9989 i would call it as some kind of hybrid between sludge metal, hardcore punk, grindcore with some noise elements. there is at least one noise track, Phoenix In Flames. It has also lot of fast paced punky rhythms, and sludgy, slow grooves. :p
it is not about the lyrics and vocals, but about the emotion coming from this record. vocals are just another melody here, not something you should focus on. it is an normal pattern in hardcore or mathcore music.
The singer said in an interview, when asked about how indecipherable some of his words are, that he treats vocals like any other instrument, and understanding each word isn't essential per se, as you can always read the lyrics. Something to that extent anyway
Cannibal corpse is even more incomprehensible, the point of most extreme metal or hardcore is getting a lyrics sheet next to the song. There are few extreme bands where you can actually hear what they are shouting. Besides, this is a classic album for a reason, one of the few times metallic hardcore/mathcore was actually able to inspire people all across the world. Kurt actually got invited to Berkeley to speak on the production of this album since it's so iconic. After this album he is also regarded as one of the if not the best producers in all of metal/hardcore.
@@jackcravford8744 Actually the lyrics in this album are quite good, but if you want you could not look up the lyrics and just feel the music. Totally acceptable.

That opening riff hits like a sledgehammer.
It truly does

kinda why we all love it so much
Closing one a chainsaw
This album is a sledgehammer.
It took me 20 years to get into this band. I'm glad I finally did.
Nothing wrong with that, friend. Better late than never. Glad you’re enjoying it. One of the best bands to make “extreme” music. Ever.
You could honestly do a video essay on how this is the definition of a flawless song.
Do it!
Indecipherable vocals alone make that untrue.

Late to party: A faultless song indeed.
@@KalosPVP Nah, decipherable vocals have been a mainstay in mediocre music. They set themselves apart with this album \m/

the moments from 1:54 till the end... the absolute rush of ugly feral endorphins it makes me feel, I wish i could bottle it

@@Discipulus-beleth now to think of it, I would call it mathcore. That explains a lot of the chaotic rhythmic nature of this album.

I swear Ballou changed the opening power cord to a diminished on the live album. At least, it sounds like it.
Ah, COOL! I'm the 1,000th person to give this a "thumbs up"! 😃 👍
This is a problem i have had with every converge release. I just wish the vocals were a little louder in the mix
Nah. I'm actually ok with it. they'll never be the biggest band in the world, but they don't want to. No wonder it's pretty good, thumbs up for me
I like the mix because it makes the vocals part of the music. I think bands have the vocals too in the forefront lately.
Bannon said he likes it buried in the mix and sees it as an instrument.
Give me some Undeath too
Can anybody understand the lyrics without reading, i just wonder...
Pretty sure he just screams and makes it sounds like words but isn't actually saying anything. Still awesome though.
A lot of the lyrics on this album aren't actually what's written on the lyric sheet.
You can clearly hear him say fault and fracture in the chorus
I'm in the process of dechipering them
