Just to clarify...I like both you're channel and also Patrick's. Not only are you all good, but you are more in line with my playing style. Also, you give your honest opinions, and don't just suck up to bass companies.
Why is there not a Sterling SUB Series after the Harley Benton and before the RAY34? It seems logical. The jump from HB to a Ray34 price is huge.
With a better pickup....I dont see why the harley benton wont hold it's own right up against a Ray34/35. And even with a pup swap....still more than half the price altogether
@@kevykev388 the comment is saying if you’re comparing a HB to other brands you’re not expecting to jump from be able to jump from $100 to $500 like that... just not logical.

The difference in sound between the cheapies and the real thing is monstrous. But I wonder if they can be almost in the same level with a nice preamp and good pickups. They'd still be less than a 1/4 of the price of a Special

I just ordered the harley benton mb5. I hear the difference in them simply because they're playing them right after the other. In my honest opinion...I feel like once I get my bass...if need be...I'll throw a better MM pup in it like aguilar and nothing will matter from that point
I am currently debating getting either of the two HB ones, I am not quite sure yet if I want the single or double bucker. But I plan on upgrading the beast as much as I can and see how close I can get to a Ray and what the price comparison is after the upgrades.
@@maximiliangfrorer1039 I have the MB5 with the single humbucker. In my opinion itll never sound like the Ray but you oughta get pretty close and not spend nearly as much money. Mine is passive and I'm stoked about that lol. Not stressing over batteries. Because of that...I'm gonna swap the pickup first before I go chasing preamps.
My opinion is just save for something you'd want to keep for life.
I've had a 4H Stingray and it wasn't that great....a case of don't meet ya heros, quiet G string which is common, unstable neck that needed tweaking every few days and neck like a sodding baseball bat, sold it and never missed it.
I've bought a Harley Benton Mb4 and it's sensational, stunning build, stable neck, balanced pup and no faffing with EQ and batteries....90% the Stingray sound in the mix. ❤

I got the H. Benton and has it „re-worked“ a Little:
Warman PU, Black Hardware, Sandberg Bridge, new Pickguard, EQ rewired to tone/Midth/high.
Invest Overall: 350€.
And it’s AMAZING!
I own a Ray 35 and didn't see the need to spend the extra money on a USA StingRay5-UNTIL I BOUGHT ONE!!!! I recently bought a 2022 StingRay 5 HH Special-THE DIFFERENCE IS STUNNING!!!! While I love my Ray 35, I'm going to sell it!
I've, just bought one Harley benton mb4 in sunburst....incredibly good bass, not just good for the money, it's a great guitar...
.....but only when new strings are fitted. The original strings are simply awful, rough on the fingers, and audibly dead. A real shame because all I did was fit some Harley Benton value strings with the orange silks and woooow!!!!
P sized neck and mine is roasted, super smooth too. Although the set up was good on delivery I'm a luthier so a quick dressing of the nut and dropped the strings on the saddles and great low action too.
...and no quiet G string like my 2000 Trans Orange MM Stingray 4H.😊
I can't believe how punchy, full, sparkly and lively the passive pick up is on this MB4, great slap tone with tone open. Being passive no faffing about setting the EQ.

First Harley Benton is volume, volume, passive tone. Separate volume control for each coil

Neodymium magnets (Music Man Special) are the best...they sound warmer than Alnico magnets (Sterling by Music Man StingRay34, Music Man Old Smoothie and Neck Through) and too much crispy on the high tones for me...

It's all personal preference. To me, the new pickup/preamp combo on the Specials makes them too tame, and they lack a lot of that character of the older Stingrays (be it 3 or 2 band). They just never sound that good in the mix to me. A blander, more vanilla tone IMO.
Yep the MMs are better than the HMs but hell, they should be for the price. That first HB can be bought for £107 delivered in the UK, and for a beginner or someone experienced wanting a cheap bass, that is the deal of the freakin century dudes! Good demo.

While it might just be me I was a bit weirded out by how little you knew about the instruments. ""I think it's"..."I don't know what this does". Just as an FYI there's an owners manual in each case. The Dancing segments were very nice however. 🌟 🌟

I have a green old smoothy its great,i had a brown 1979 from new,the feel and sound are almost the same i especially like the fret wire profile its nice a d low
I had the 1979 stingray refretted and it was terrible after that the wire was too big

Is Harley Benton sounds close to Sterling SUB stingray 4?
C'mon y'all.. PLEASE review the HS bass!!! There are barely any reviews of it on youtube. I still don't really know how it sounds fully. And with you guys, your great gear, and good quality videos I would finally be able to 'figure out' how the HS Musicman bass sounds. Just sayin..but again, thanks for all the great vids!!
HB has one called the Enhanced Series. Patrick has a Demo of him playing a J-Bass w that pup configuration and absolutely loves it. HB also had an Enhanced bass with a PH pup configuration that sounds great on YT.
Just ordered a mm-84 a sb. But man is that pickup coming off as soon as i get it. It is sooooo UUUUGLYYYYYYY.
Is there circuitry underneath the pickguard?

Pascal Bösiger but the smoothie is supposed to be more rounded and mellow. And the 4classic is dry but zingy with a crisp mid and bottom end.

Exactly. Won't sound like a real Ray but will come VERY close, and not even for half of the price. The necks feel super different though! So you should atleast try a MusicMan first, they are fantastic instruments. I for one dig the neck of the HB more.
@@maximiliangfrorer1039 as for me, I'm not a "working" bass player. I just grab a few pickup gigs here and there when I'm not on drums or keys. The neck is definitely thicker. And the bass itself is rather heavy. However, the fretboard is still pretty slim and string spacing isnt wide either. I'm gonna swap the pickup eventually. Hopefully that's "enough" to not need an active preamp. But even with watching this video....long as there isnt a real MM or Sterling in the building...no one will hear any real difference in a band setting haha

You should check the spec out before giving false information out. It's Roasted Maple not ash and the Sterling has a Maple neck.
