Agree with all you said. I'm mostly excited to see if this unlocks Perkins' potential. I've said since day 1 he's not a midfielder and he should be playing Stringer's role. I think that's where he can show that flare he had in his first season. Could be wrong, but think that's his future and with Stringer gone, I'd be telling Perkins its his spot to take.

My external perception is that we couldn’t properly reset as a club until Dodoro left. I don’t mean that as a knock against him personally but the way he and Rosa approach list management seems to be chalk and cheese. Hear Hear! Booing players just because they leave is never good. Plus we need to focus on improving the culture at the club - both on and off the field. I’d rather focus on players like Caddy and see if we can do what Hawthorn did. Well done to Rosa for getting pick 53 when nobody else wanted Stringer.
You’re spot on felix. Scott wants to build a hard working culture. Jake no longer fits that. Rosa mentioned Perkins will take on the forward role which is exciting

That suspension clearly rattled the life out the guy and made him very cautious the rest of the season. All up bring on 2025!

Agree with you Felix. It was so much fun watching Jake play for us for a few years. In his game against Fremantle, he and Dylan Shiel helped in that comeback victory. I think Stringer applied nine tackles in that game. I believe the club is moving him on, more because of his association with undesirable criminal figures as distinct from his performances. I reckon he made a decent effort to improve his preparation this year. It did taper off but he was better under Brad Scott. I wish him every success. I always said if we made a GF and won the premiership, it wouldn't be a suprise that Jake snaffles the Norm. He still might do that at GWS.

We've got Langford as a solid second tier forward, but Caddy is still very green, Draper can really only pinch hit up forward, and Wright needs to massively turn things round. I'm happy that we have re-signed Setterfield he needs to put in a big year but so does most of our team. I'm happy to have a younger team next year and that we might finish lower in 2025 than this year; as long as we are transitioning our team from average players to good; or from good to great.
Jake stinger plays well against weaker sides but in important matches he goes missing his body let's him down and he can be lazy. Peter wright needs to step up we will finish 16th next year
With all the draft capital we hold in a hypothetical scenario of taking some selections to the draft who would we select late curious after the steal in Archie Roberts at 54 last year
GWS are gonna have crazy forwards like Toby, Brent, Callum, and possibly Pheonix Gothard if he makes his debut for 2025 but I won't expect anything from Stringer. He either plays like a god for one game then doesn't feel like playing for 3 weeks
With Stringer gone, I’m really looking forward to see if Archie Perkins can stand up. I see a lot of similarities in their games - impact players at centre bounce, string through the hips and hard to tackle, can mark a ball inside 50 or find space up the ground, and most starkly they come under fire for work rate. Except Perkins has shown very little form or score board impact to date despite his obvious skill set. So I’m hoping some training standards and more responsibilities kicks Perkins into gear to fill a void… he’s too good to watch when he’s on for him not to stand up! Similarly with Shiel, before his recent injuries he started the year a couple of years ago as a half forward/forward pocket to good effect. If he can rotate through the middle as well for those couple of times a game as fresh legs, and then have score board impact… then maybe Gresham can move closer to goal with Kako as two genuine small forward front and square players… Either way, I’m actually very excited for a young Dons forward line with some energy and flare… Caddy‘s coming hard and Kako’s winning the rising star with 32+ goals!
Wow good trade period for the Dons. Kako this year and 4 first rounders to throw at West Coast next year for Harley Reid (2 2025 first round, 1 2026 first round, and1 2027 first rounder)
I wonder if there were other parts we didn't see, might be pick 37 and another pick and we pay as opposed to pick 53 and they pay 100% of his wage. So, I am not willing to call this a poor trade because I am guessing the on and off again means there were other things in the arm wrestle. Caddy, Langford, Wright forward line :)
Wright was useless last season and had to be dropped. Don't know why he's still there. Jones should be played up forward. He's our best overhead mark by far.
@@gettinhungrig8806 I think the answer to that is: We all go through tough times, and I am betting Scott, and the coaches believe it's something he can overcome and it's worth persisting with him and giving him the opportunity to turn it around. I am betting if we see the same again next season, then that will be it, but if it's fixable, he's worth the investment, especially given the way he goes about his preparation and the like. Having a break might have been just what he needed to get himself right again (no pun intended) - we shall see.
I’m just really disappointed we re-signed Setterfield. He can’t kick accurately to save himself. Two clubs have given him away, that should say something. He should not be getting a game ahead of Tsatsas, give the kid a chance to prove himself although he also can’t kick…. I really think that is our biggest problem- Dudoro never prioritised kicking skills in any of his recruiting (except for Zach)
Merrett has to feel bad. Bombers have effectively acknowledged that our tilt is still a number of years away (correctly). This likely means he won’t be part of it.
My guess is he will be highly motivated at a new club. Little bit of a wake up call on how sort after he was, and a fresh environment will always help a player with their psychology. 50 goals if he doesn't get injured, but doubt he would've cracked 30 if he stayed. Best for all parties.
i wouldve liked to see both 53 and 56 given to us for stringer but im happy with 53. trading stringer was the right decision because more than likely he'll dip down in form and get injured again like he has previously.
@everythingessendon548 what do you think about us going for Jai Culley? number 1 in the 2022 mid season draft he got delisted by the Eagles today. a little taller than stringer by like 2cm and would be great for that youth we want?
You know what. Now, realistically we can sit back and go we should aim at around 8th to 12th next year as a pass. All likelihood finish 13th to 15th. But then we dont have that rubbish hope bs that kills our souls every year. If we play better, great. If we suddenly have perkins cox reid bryan tsatas hobbs jones and caddy all break out.... anything is possible. But its easier to stomach if we are realistic about where we should be finishing.
I think the baby bombers myth distorts the reality of expectations in our fan base. It’s very rare that a young team can have a breakout season. I’m concerned because our young players didn’t step up last season why would they this season. Hope I’m wrong.
@@MrWhitmen1981 I keep saying this to people. But this is the final death knell of the suppliments saga. The final pieces of that era are finally out of the club. We have tried, incorrectly' to bandaid things for such a long time that its just lead to a complete mediocre middle of the road approach. Stick with Scott. Stick with Rosa. New blood. New ideas. New Kids. New talent.
@@everythingessendon548 Kako, Caddy, Jones will be exciting to watch with more responsibility. I would also love to see Merrett and Martin playing at half forward.

Maybe not first round picks Cox Reid Archie Hobbs Tstas Caddy Kako 2 first rounders 9 players surely we can win a final with that base?
good stuff over this trade period! Gonna miss all the content. Gonna miss Jake but its the right decision. I like setters, just needs some continuity. I hope we see some creative positioning next year, I liked Roberts on half back
The Giants think they have a walking 42 goal kicker, but outside 2021 where it was a contract year and this year he’s kicked between 25 - 32, it’s recency bias
Going to miss those boundary goals who will bring the excitement in our team ? We will struggle next year our forward line as you said will be young and poor Bottom 4 next year not just because of stringer gone but lost lots of experience.
I was in the give him a second year camp. Sad to see him go. We’re not replacing 40+ goals a year. Only way I see this being a positive is if we play kids at all costs.
Essendon v Gws Round 1 next year after 10 Giants players unavailable due to suspension. Stringer kicks 5 goals but Giants lose by 30 points.... Perfect scenario 😂
I don't wish to make too many comments about this as it might upset some snowflakes here but Why the Hell did Essendon not push harder I mean pick 53 they should have made GWS give up something else we could have returned a pick back say 54 for their 37 because right now we have Picks 28 and 31 which will now have to be match on a bit with Issac Kako so that now means we have no picks inside the top 30 our first selection will be 40 or even higher I also have noticed the club said we are young and going with youth I get all of that but that did not Happen at Hawthorn they were young as well and did not use that as an excuse why once again are the club sugar coding everything again are they worried that by coming out making a statement that they want to improve from this year and are worried by saying that if they fail in 2025.I just think the club needs to stop making excuses to the public and fans and do something about addressing the big Elephant in the room which is 20 years without a finals win
We will go down for a few years then back up, and then blame the players for not being able to be as good as the top half a dozen teams. Stringer will star in a better environment. We love a scapegoat to stay in denial.
we off loaded our trouble maker to a team full of them. I feel sorry for GWS Players, private function should have been handled in house AFL hate Toby? don't understand Fox footy "experts " giving Essendon a C rating for trade period we went in with a plan and ticked all boxes of what we wanted
i agree that loosing stringer is good for the culture, just wish him all the best and It would be a discredit to the fans if they boo him when he plays against us. Hopefully fewer forwards actually brings some stability and frees up the forward line leaving caddy, jones, langford etc free to make space and be more creative.
Win for GWS. 40 goal loss and big midfielder element loss for bombers. Contradictory YTer here making his nuffie bias known which is disappointing but helpful for subscription.
How is it that the 3 blokes they want out of the club, Stringer, Hind and LaVerde are the Captain's best mates ? I think we still have a bit of work to do to the mix right. I would never question Merrett's talent, work rate and commitment to Essendon, but I question whether he is a true leader. The whole team falls in behind true leadership and it's clear that we don't have this yet. We will eventually get there but the list needs 1 or 2 strong, no compromise leaders before we can start to climb up the ladder
This the worst off-season I've witnessed Essendon have. From the last game of the season until now it's been nothing short of a disaster and you cannot change my mind. Throwing Stringer away like we did was pathetic, if we got something back then fine but who gives a fuck about pick 53? We won't even use it. When Stringer kicks 45 goals next year and we're still lacking work rate in the front half who are we blaming then? We as a fan base bend over backwards to place the blame for our poor performances anywhere but where it's from and that's the coach. We will be bottom 4 next year and the only thing we can look forward to is hoping Melbourne is there with us.
Nonsense take. Firstly we've clearly had way way way worse off season periods: Dylan shield for 2x 1st rounders, McGrath taken with #1, Losing Daniher & Saad etc. Furthermore, the stringer trade was never about 'getting something back' it was about making a statement and getting rid of a player who was demanding more than he was worth, while likely contributing to a negative culture around the club. Also his value is completely subjective: We are not even close to contending for a premiership and stringer is 30 and the opposite of a professional in his preperation. So he sure as shit was never even going to be around for a future essendon premiership window. The 45 goals a year is ultimately iirrelevant over the next two years for us and I'd much rather recruit and develop youth with the right mindset and finish lower rather than locking into 2-3 more years placating an old inconsistent primadonna who only cares about his paycheck. Not to mention the reason we only got 53 was thanks to him hanging out with criminals and showing up to training overweight. He tanked his own trade value, that's on him, not the club.
@@Ron1nVsEverything Shiel was an All Australian in his prime being courted by 4 clubs, everyone of them would have paid what we paid, Shiel hasn't lived up to the standard we had hoped in years gone by but at the time it was a fair if not still heavy price for an in demand commodity. McGrath is a very long way from being the worst number 1 pick taken in the last 10 years let alone ever and does not qualify as a reason for a bad off season particularly when we also took Ridley that year, and at least when we lost Daniher and Saad we got something out of it. Which is my whole point. You can make a statement about lifting work rate and put a player on the trade block without completely tanking his value, remember Daniher was also accused of being lazy in his last season with us after the vision of him sitting on the fence did the rounds but we finessed a top 10 pick still. Now I'm not at all saying Stringer is worth that, not even close, but good clubs get value back for their players. Look at Adam Treloar for example, Collingwood forced him out the door and still got value, what we did to Stringer was poor business. You don't treat players like that.
@everythingessendon548 True I was his biggest fan early last season but you could see him getting less interseted as each round went by...kinda like the whole side tbh🤔 What does that tell us bomber fans brave enough to read between the lines?????
We definitely got stiffed, should of been given pick 37 and we could of given them a pick back.. but alas maybe now is the right time to let him go and focus on a new forward line make up of Caddy, Jones, Kako, and Langy and maybe perkins,
Club culture is far more important than an individual.

GWS are gonna have crazy forwards like Toby, Brent, Callum, and possibly Pheonix Gothard if he makes his debut for 2025 but I won't expect anything from Stringer. He either plays like a god for one game then doesn't feel like playing for 3 weeks
He’ll be a threat come finals for them at least
@@everythingessendon548 He sure will.
He had to let him go. Scott needs hard working players that he can trust and Stringer just wasn’t one of them.
Agreed, love it
Really think Archie belongs up forward and loves the big moments and a decent set shot. Hope its a big double Archie year.
A big year from Perkins is just what we need
You want Stringer to leave but happy with Weidman still on the list
Not at all, glad Weideman was delisted
Agree culture is more important. A good culture will make us a destination club once again.
Hopefully
there is a 22 ye old Carlton forward called Laim should we look at him for our rookie draft?
Liam McMahon, been great in the VFL
@@everythingessendon548 yes but as a rookie could he be a top up player if we need plus his only 22
I think worth a look
p.s love the channel 👍
If he can rotate through the middle as well for those couple of times a game as fresh legs, and then have score board impact… then maybe Gresham can move closer to goal with Kako as two genuine small forward front and square players…
Either way, I’m actually very excited for a young Dons forward line with some energy and flare… Caddy‘s coming hard and Kako’s winning the rising star with 32+ goals!
Good positive vibes for us to cling to!!
Big year for Archie hopefully
Wow good trade period for the Dons. Kako this year and 4 first rounders to throw at West Coast next year for Harley Reid (2 2025 first round, 1 2026 first round, and1 2027 first rounder)
We take it, could be better could be worse
I wonder if there were other parts we didn't see, might be pick 37 and another pick and we pay as opposed to pick 53 and they pay 100% of his wage. So, I am not willing to call this a poor trade because I am guessing the on and off again means there were other things in the arm wrestle. Caddy, Langford, Wright forward line :)
I think even if we aren’t paying his contract 53 is still quite low, not unhappy with it though
I wouldn’t have been complaining if he was delisted, but there are quite a few list spots available for next season, needed another 1-2 re-signed
Spot on! But he looks so big in that photo
Big package
Merrett has to feel bad. Bombers have effectively acknowledged that our tilt is still a number of years away (correctly). This likely means he won’t be part of it.
Another loyal Bomber who gets nothing from his hard work
Adam Tomlinson had been delisted by the dees, should we get him?
Doubt it, you never know though
Saw him take apart Luke Ryan last year
Kicked 6 and beat him every single time one on one and kicked some clutch goals
He can play for sure
Great player, just not what we need right now
We’ll regret it if Sttinger stars in GWS v Essendon grand final
But wish him well at GWS
The scenes if he kicks the winning goal
My guess is he will be highly motivated at a new club. Little bit of a wake up call on how sort after he was, and a fresh environment will always help a player with their psychology. 50 goals if he doesn't get injured, but doubt he would've cracked 30 if he stayed. Best for all parties.
I can see him failing to crack 30 there as well, you never know with Jake
i wouldve liked to see both 53 and 56 given to us for stringer but im happy with 53.
trading stringer was the right decision because more than likely he'll dip down in form and get injured again like he has previously.
Same, but he wasn’t worth that much in the end
I’m reconsidering my membership & turning up to games next year. The Club needs to win back my trust. Hopefully this is the first step forward.
New blood. New ideas. New Kids. New talent.
@@Drakenhax Spot on mate.
I think we slide a few spots
Also stringer u are the goat
Hopefully not the goat at GWS
@@everythingessendon548 ye otherwise huge mistake.
I think it was the right move by the club to get rid of him 🎉
Yep I agree!
Everyone is better off with the trade. Would have been much worse had he stayed. Wish Jake the best at GWS.
Everyone is happy
No individual is bigger than a club, cya Jake.
This will create opportunities for younger guys, play the kids and see what happens
Keen to see how Caddy and Kako go together
@@everythingessendon548 Kako, Caddy, Jones will be exciting to watch with more responsibility.
I would also love to see Merrett and Martin playing at half forward.
@@everythingessendon548 did i hear in kako interview that they use to play junior footy together?
Play kids, you'll probably get a wooden spoon.
@@gettinhungrig8806 if that gets us out of this cycle of mediocrity so be it.
I feel a bit depressed
Not that stringer has left but just feel like we haven't really done anything
Are we rebuilding ?
Are we young?
It just seems we will be middle of the road forever???
Maybe not first round picks
Cox
Reid
Archie
Hobbs
Tstas
Caddy
Kako
2 first rounders
9 players surely we can win a final with that base?
It’s less of a rebuild and more of a reset, we finally have a list manager who wants to develop young players, I’m all here for it
All I’d like to see is that we beat them twice next year as he didn’t want to stay at Essendon anyway 🤙
Pencil in an opening round game against them surely
good stuff over this trade period! Gonna miss all the content. Gonna miss Jake but its the right decision.
I like setters, just needs some continuity. I hope we see some creative positioning next year, I liked Roberts on half back
Cheers mate! Plenty of draft content to come as well
The Giants think they have a walking 42 goal kicker, but outside 2021 where it was a contract year and this year he’s kicked between 25 - 32, it’s recency bias
21 goals in 2023
I think he only played 16 games and was injured
25- 32 goals would still put him in our top two to three goal kickers!
@@chrisd_85 as was always the case
Short term Giants win, after a couple of years we’ll have got the better deal especially with this draft.
There's no chance our selection 53 will be as good as Stringer.
We'll probably never even use that pick.
Short term Giants definitely win, but I’m happy with a culture reset
@@everythingessendon548 2 metre Peter needs to pull his finger out of his arse and kick a few for us, and chase a bit too.
Going to miss those boundary goals who will bring the excitement in our team ?
We will struggle next year our forward line as you said will be young and poor
Bottom 4 next year not just because of stringer gone but lost lots of experience.
Hopefully Kako
@@everythingessendon548 hope so mate
Watch him kick a goal after the siren against us
I already know it’ll happen
if that means we're competitive with GWS next season, i'll take it
Just because the last 3 occasions have been against Essendon is not a guarantee to happen again soon
I was in the give him a second year camp. Sad to see him go.
We’re not replacing 40+ goals a year.
Only way I see this being a positive is if we play kids at all costs.
Kinda have to play kids, most of our old players are gone
Stringer probably needed to be 27-37 pick but teams ran out of time.
I would say a pick in the 40s
Essendon v Gws Round 1 next year after 10 Giants players unavailable due to suspension. Stringer kicks 5 goals but Giants lose by 30 points.... Perfect scenario 😂
Could see us playing there for opening round
The Giants didn’t want Stringer as much as we wanted him gone, they weren’t going to pay up for him
@@everythingessendon548 Yeah but only Essendon can get them self's into this type of mess
We will go down for a few years then back up, and then blame the players for not being able to be as good as the top half a dozen teams. Stringer will star in a better environment. We love a scapegoat to stay in denial.
Less denial here than in previous trade periods at least
@@everythingessendon548 we will have to wait and see
This will pay Essendon back very quickly
Not sure about that, even if Stringer stars next year it’s still the right call for our culture
we off loaded our trouble maker to a team full of them.
I feel sorry for GWS Players, private function should have been handled in house
AFL hate Toby?
don't understand Fox footy "experts " giving Essendon a C rating for trade period
we went in with a plan and ticked all boxes of what we wanted
Stringer will be hoping they have another wacky Wednesday next year
What a waste, the same deal GWS offered straight up
I'll miss the Package when he delivers but hopefully Langer's/Caddy/Jones fills his spot with more consistency.
Packet of chips for Jake Stringer
i agree that loosing stringer is good for the culture, just wish him all the best and It would be a discredit to the fans if they boo him when he plays against us. Hopefully fewer forwards actually brings some stability and frees up the forward line leaving caddy, jones, langford etc free to make space and be more creative.
I think our fans are better than others when it comes to booing, hopefully I’m not proven wrong
Win for GWS. 40 goal loss and big midfielder element loss for bombers. Contradictory YTer here making his nuffie bias known which is disappointing but helpful for subscription.
Depends which Stringer you get, in 2023 he was a 20 goal forward
How is it that the 3 blokes they want out of the club, Stringer, Hind and LaVerde are the Captain's best mates ? I think we still have a bit of work to do to the mix right. I would never question Merrett's talent, work rate and commitment to Essendon, but I question whether he is a true leader. The whole team falls in behind true leadership and it's clear that we don't have this yet. We will eventually get there but the list needs 1 or 2 strong, no compromise leaders before we can start to climb up the ladder
He’ll just have to hang around with new mates at the club
Yeah, terrible take.
Words like work rate in the front half and Stringer do not go together. You failed the puzzle champ.
We’ve had incredible off seasons with no results, I’m happy with a change of pace
Didn’t care were he went as long as it wasn’t Brisbane Lions
They wouldn’t be able to fit him on that list
@@everythingessendon548 He wouldn’t get a game at Brisbane

@everythingessendon548
True
I was his biggest fan early last season but you could see him getting less interseted as each round went by...kinda like the whole side tbh🤔
What does that tell us bomber fans brave enough to read between the lines?????
Stupid deal, I don’t think we will finish higher on the ladder now and Brad will be sacked by the end of the season because of it.
I’d rather us try and change rather than make up numbers like we have for too long
We definitely got stiffed, should of been given pick 37 and we could of given them a pick back.. but alas maybe now is the right time to let him go and focus on a new forward line make up of Caddy, Jones, Kako, and Langy and maybe perkins,
In the end I think the Giants just didn’t want Stringer enough to give up 37
string is a traitor we where loyal to him even when he played bad
Bit unfair, he wanted to stay on a 2 year deal and we didn’t want him
