Kip Keino won TWO Olympic golds; 1500 in 1968 and 3000sc in 1972. He won golds at the 1966 Commonwealth Games - mile and three mile (imperial distances then) - and gold in the 1970 Games in Edinburgh at 1500. He set a world record for 3000 (7:39 I think) that lasted a very long time. Olympic silvers in 5000 in 1968 and 1500 in 1972. His Olympic gold in 1968 was won in 3:34.9 at altitude in Mexico City. Fantastic run, lasted as the Olympic record until Seb Coe broke it in 1984. Keino was an incredible runner, not often mentioned when discussions of the GOAT take place - but he should be!
Bro I like your videos I always feel motivated to run afterwards. It’s just nice being in the running culture like u said while you were in the stadium. 🏟️ ❤️ 🏃🏽♀️
Important thing: if you would like to include such workouts into your training, adjust number of repeats and recovery time according to your possibilities. E.g. for 1k reps, Kipchoge's recovery time is 90s which is roughly is half time of his 3:00/km. So if you do 1k intervals e.g. for 3:30/km, then your recovery time should be at least 105 seconds.
Please verify/ do more background background on the weaithy using carbon shoes and the kipchoge stadium. There is more to it and would be good to paint a more accurate picture. Great fan of the videos
I hope you get better soon so you can enjoy your staying there in Kenya... awesome video.I have a dream to spend a couple of weeks in a running camp in Kenya... I belive there are many.. which one are you staying?
I hope that through this experience with injury you can at least come away with more confidence with cross training, as it is very helpful to include in your normal training as well.
@@BenIsRunning Speaking of which, the winner of the women's NCAA cross country championships today said in an interview that she only runs 2-3 times per week, and cross trains (mainly using a device called an arc trainer) the rest of the week. More proof of the power of cross training!
Hi Ben love the channel and hope you can get running again soon! I would love to go on one of these Kenyan camps, however I'm a pretty average runner compared to you guys (1:25 Half) albeit improving quickly now im taking things more seriously. . Is it still worth it for me to experience it looks incredible?
Although Iten is full of world class athletes training at the highest level there is also a huge industry for those wanting simply to experience this. There are probably more recreational runners training here in Iten currently than the pros so I’d highly recommend a visit regardless of ability. My girlfriend Meg is very new to running and she still enjoyed her trip :)
It's my understanding, that yes, they can be harder on your body, BUT they aren't used for very many runs. Primarily for race efforts only, maybe some speedwork sessions. In general, a runner should have more than enough bodily fitness and health built up to not be affected by such a minor thing. Definitely don't do all your runs in them though
I’ll definitely be limiting my use upon my return but not the main factor that I believed caused my issue. More so the intensity of my training over a period with not enough respect given to recovery
@@BenIsRunning be patient. I think deena castors coach (or it was from the book "running on the edge"..) said that the most important skill in running (training) is patience. And it reminds me of the song by my all time favorite band guns n Roses....
@@litergod the theory was that the shoes takes load off from the lower legs n instead increase the load on other parts (higher up) in the body. Im not too well informed about the theory but def worth paying attention to.
Daniel ebenyo is also the world championships Silver medalist for 10k. It just feels kinda unatural seeing ben not running, quick recovery man
Loving seeing the duo of you and Kush back together! Winning combo 😄
Great video Ben, love and enjoy your content, quick recovery on your injury...
Thanks for giving us insight on the Kenyan training sessions.
Thank you!

If you saw me swim you’d quickly have a different opinion
Pretty wild seeing a Seattle University sweatshirt in the wild. My SIL went there, and I've spent a lot of time on their campus downtown!
That’s pretty crazy, small world

I love how you have worked in recovery for your injury while still maximizing the Kenya experience. Curious what the impact to healing is at altitude.
Thank you! It’s been a great trip thus far :)
Good info Ben. Thanks.
Any time!
Love your channel Benzo, Great content. Thank you and get well soon soon

Yes I certainly have learnt the benefits over this period! Here to stay

Thank you 🇮🇳
I heard somewhere that its the carbon super shoes that causes people to get stress fractures in the femur n those areas. 😢 Get well Ben ❤

When you get back running, will you still be doing swimming, cross trainer, and bike ?
Got to benefit long term.
Yes for sure!
Ben! Are those shokz decent when you wear glasses? (fellow specs wearer here!) Loving the content btw 👍
I don’t have any issues, they slide behind for me and still offer a secure fit :)
Ben ís, estarás en valencia??? 🏃♂️
I won’t be no, I’m racing Seville in feb if all goes well
Your thumbnail says ELUID not Eliud.
And that bloke you was supposed to pace but left for dust to win that half marathon is now laughing. 😃
Ahah, indeed 😂
7:11 @samuelvbarata (Portuguese half-marathon record holder) doing laps behind you, And that's his bottle at 0:17 ;)
It was indeed, training for Valencia marathon I believe. Think his session if I remember was 4x 5k, looked very smooth
Can you help me with the sports program
Hi Ben, is the kipchoge stadium open for the public? Is it free to run there?
It is yes
A 40km long run at marathon effort may as well just be doing a marathon in training for a marathon🤣
Οι Έλληνες που βρέθηκαν εκεί χαχαχαχ ! Ωραίοι !
who are the Greek guys? haha
Hope you were wearing seat belts 😂
Greeks ? Παιδιά ??
This is only eliud's warm up. His real training is he wraps deer meat on his back and gets chased by lions and cheetahs.
First
Thanks bud 🙌🏻
