i just ordered some p90s and I was like how do these things mount? and you confirmed my suspicion i had a minute ago that you literally just screw them in like that, never even occurred to me that I wouldn't be using a mounting plate or bracket, thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks for the video, bro. I have a '72 Les Paul Goldtop Deluxe with mini humbuckers. Have you ever replaced such pickups with p-90's. Do you have confidence the routed holes will fit P90's with additional modification?
I believe I saw the pickup cover rocking which moves the pole screws as well? My Les Paul Special (bridge) does the same thing so I was wondering if this was ok or could tone or output be affected by this? If so, is there a way to make it a more solid attachment? Thanks for a great video!
The pole pieces are a reference point for the much larger magnetic field; a little rocking should have no noticeable effect on tone. If you want a solid mount, replace the springs with a wood spacer.

Flipping the cover, that's a great idea!
As well as waxing the screws.

How much wood is required under the pickup to allow for proper adjustment?
3/4" or 19mm works for most guitars.

Thanks so much. So I could put a couple of wood strips under the cover and it wouldn’t affect anything right?
Correct. Your ease of adjustment is the only thing that would suffer.
