yeah and to add to OP’s info, Lap 2 is just you going back to where you destroyed John the Pillar for another run to the end with your remaining time to escape. Lap 2’s generally faster than the normal escape since in most levels there’s no need for gimmicks to get back to the door again, or you could have taken time detouring for the secrets in lap 1. It’s good for getting more points but it is one of the required things you do to get P rank on normal levels.
the seemingly empty "secret" rooms you mentioned actually do serve a purpose what happens is, when you re-enter the level after beating it, a lap 2 portal appears in those spots and what the lap 2 portal does is take you all the way back to where the john pillar guy was during pizza time it's used to get an even better rank like S or P P rank requires all 3 secrets, all toppins, doing the thing with the janitor and an unbroken combo throughout the entire level (so basically, hell) however, the timer doesn't reset and you really need to hurry to not run out of time aaand here's some hints: when the timer hits 0 you don't instantly fail, but you have to escape from the ridiculously fast pizza face and if he catches you you're dead to know how much time you have left before losing your combo, look at the bar that appears below peppino's reaction cam there's a thingy that shows you how much time you've got to continue the combo and that's why the clocks you collect during pizza time don't add time, they actually maintain your combo for a bit longer instead
Interestingly, P Rank doesn't require all toppins, you can skip them if you want. Yet they're helpful for getting a higher point count so it's prefereable to get them anyways for higher ranks.
The third boss, the Noise, is a parody of an old Domino's Pizza Mascot called the Noid. The Gimmick of the Noid being that he hated pizza's and would always try tried to squash them. But Domino's would "Avoid The Noid" and make sure you got an unharmed pizza. The Noid actually had an interesting reason for being cancelled as a mascot though. Due to a mentally unwell man who's last name was Noid and thought the character was deliberately targeting him, so he held up a local Domino's

SPOILER ALERT The secret ending shows gerome mourning his brother (john pillar)'s skull however from all the treasure peppino collected he somehow transfers to him and he comes back as a much smaller clothed one. Pizza Head wakes up and laughs but Pillar John kicks him into the air.
Oh, a little something about floor 4. There should be a green cheese slime enemy walking around in the hub floor. He is harmless. If you kill him, he doesn't respawn. Beat the game with him alive, and you get a special completion icon on your save file.

For whatever reason your game has a few rendering issues, some sprites seem to have other sprites in them. Maybe a corruption or just a glitch the devs need to fix. Go ask someone in the community for help to fix it, maybe steam discussions or guides? By the way: don’t kill the green slime in the slum, his name is snotty and he gives you more tower progress if you spare him
12:16 this is correc6, they made the bosses at base level a completely different game than the one played. The bosses don't take into the account the speedruinning and collecting part of Pizza tower into their gameplay, instead focusing on something that game doesn't really do: a combat system. Instead the bosses should've been for an example for Pepperman a Maze, where you deal with their antics while quickly completeling it, Pepperman would challenge your knowlegde on level layout with his maze. Vigalinte would challenge your curiosity and thinking outside the box. Noise would teach you about using enemy placement to your advantage. Fake Peppino would be a Combination of all of these. For Pizza Face I believe he works just fine actually, well atleast somewhat I feel his pizzaface form should've been a chase instead with you having to run away from him until finding a way to fightback. Afterwards the rest of whats already there continues. This would challenge what the player should know about the game they're playing.

When you activate pizza time, if you're feeling stupid, badass, or any combination of the two, go take that portal. It'll send you to the spot where you destroyed John the Pillar, and you'll have to run back to the beginning of the level again. The main thing about lap 2 is that, upon taking that portal, you get a TON of points, and if you're currently A-rank, that point boost will be enough to boost you to "S-rank". However, there's yet another rank after S: The P rank. In order to get this rank, you can NOT joke around. You gotta find all 3 secrets in the level, the secret treasure from the janitor's closet, and all the toppin's; all while keeping a single combo throughout the entire level. TL:DR; The empty rooms have a funni lap 2 portal that gives you enough points for S rank, and also can get you p-rank if you're badass enough. You don't have to do all that if you don't want to before beating the game for your first time, but it is immensely satisfying when you get an S or P rank. Hope this helps!

The taunts in this are used as a parry so they can really help during boss fights and the super taunt is something you get after a 10 or over combo and it kills everything on screen

Once you're done with the main game I'd really recomend going for S and P ranks, the game gets insanely fun when you're going for the best scores.
Edit: also damn, I dunno what all that weird static was on the graphics while you were playing

Some tips:
- Your taunt also doubles as a parry if you time it right. (Note that not all enemies are parryable. Bosses, however, are. Use this to your advantage)
- The janitor's name is Gerome. He's the little guy you need to get the treasures from the janitor's closet. While toppin's are pretty much mandatory (you can only miss up to 9 to beat the game), janitor closet treasures are optional. However, there's something neat in it for you at the ending if you get all of the treasures.
- The empty rooms at the start of the levels are lap 2 portals. In order to unlock them, you'll need to beat the level at least once. After doing so, replay the level like normal. When you get to the start of the level, you'll be able to go to that room/empty spot and enter the portal, which'll give you a bunch of points (if you have A-rank, the points will usually be enough to boost you to an S-rank).
-When your combo reaches 10, you'll be able to do a super taunt by pressing up and taunting. This serves as a screen-clear move, which is useful if you want to keep momentum without dealing with enemies. Not exactly sure on how many times you can use it during the combo though. Might just be once on the whole combo (my guess is that you can do it for each 10 in your combo, so if you had a combo of 30-39, you could do it 3 times. Could be wrong though).

The empty rooms at the beginning of levels are where "lap 2" portals appear if you replay the level.

Oh, a little something about floor 4. There should be a green cheese slime enemy walking around in the hub floor. He is harmless. If you kill him, he doesn't respawn. Beat the game with him alive, and you get a special completion icon on your save file.

yeah pls finish the game. also those secret rooms with nothing in them are for lap 2 portals, after beating the lvls once you get to do an extry lap back to get the highest rank.

I think your game got corrupted, there’s misplaced graphics everywhere. Might be best to reinstall the game before it gets worse
