After how his era of Doctor Who was treated at the time, I would understand if Colin was bitter and resentful towards the show.. but it's to his credit that he's one of the show's biggest fans & champions. Total respect to him for that.

SammEater i actually considered Six to be one of the bottom tiers because a lot of his stories were crap. Only the Revelation of the Daleks, Attack of the Cybermen, and Vengeance on Varos were the good stories to me. But Big Finish actually shot him up to be higher on the list for me by actually writing him the way Colin felt that he should have been.
I got the really old Vegance of Varos from the early 2000s
I have mad respect for Collin Baker. He had so many things working against him (the showrunners, the costuming, etc.) And despite it all he poured his heart and soul into every scene. And even after they sacked him unfairly, before he even had a chance to leave his mark on the character, he still has nothing but love for the show and its fans. What a guy
I only wish our local PBS station had decided to carry his episodes, but they stopped after "Earthshock," and didn't pick back up again until Christopher Eccleston's episodes. It's seeming like everything I've heard about his era and about Colin himself are totally wrong. I wonder why they treated him and Eccleston the way they did.

He might not be many people's favorite doctor on screen but when it comes to promoting and being an ambassador for Doctor Who Colin Baker the man is untouchable.
The key word being on screen, of course, in Big Finish he's untouchable
Met him a few times in person on the convention circuit, and every time he's has been warm, witty, and generous with his time.

@@sibionic Not actually, you can get them all digitally on the Big Finish app (that's how I do it and how I assume most everyone does it, except for when the collectibles are concerned) and most of the good ones, being the early stuff, is all like 3 bucks a pop for a 2 hour story. And then, a TON of those same stories are all just chillen on spotify for free. No indulgence at all considering that most of their catalogue is superb and amazing, I'd absolutely check it out if you have the time.

@@peterthompson1989 Yeah, Big Finish finally let Colin spread his wings. Having said that, love his TV stories too - he really kicks ass considering the state the show was in at the time. His portrayal of the Doctor comes across as a true believer in justice and it's so believable.

I'm so happy for Colin! He's very underrated and one of my favorite Doctors. This season was actually the first Classic season I watched before I started watching from the beginning so this is an easy cop!

The Trial is great, sure the first story was pretty pants but the other three were rather good, i personally loved the finial part and all the court room stuff was superb. Plus it gets extra points for doing and trying something a bit different.
The thing as a whole was excellent. But that ending was really pulled out of PJB's jar of hackney.

Sure, Colin's voice has changed a bit, but otherwise it still sounds exactly the same. Tom Baker definitely sounds exactly the same as he did 40 years ago.

@@shadowtheshowman They don't at all sound the same - Tom Baker's voice, perfectly understandably, is deeper, slower and noticeably older. Peter Davison's is also deeper, and quite unlike his youthful voice in the early 80s. I'm a radio and audio producer myself. I mean, I don't think it matters, but the voices have changed since their TV tenures.
Bring him back as a more Hartnellian Doctor. His talents were much underused at the time.
That's what Capaldi's run was supposed to do. They're not gonna jump back to an old doctor for a few more regenerations at least.
Peter Smith he's been doing big Finish for a while now. His character has mellowed out now and he's had a ton of other companions (including the Eighth Doctor's former companion, who Charley)
He's always been right: he never regenerated. He is still the Doctor.

@@danielhenze8182 Only Colin Baker could swagger around in a ridiculous costume that he hated and make it look like he thought he was wearing the most normal clothing in the world. If he'd actually liked the costume, it wouldn't be as impressive but the fact that he managed to hide his admitted distain for the clothing that he was forced to wear every time he was onscreen is a testament to his acting abilities. Honestly, I'm actually glad that John Nathan Turner made that decision because it really helped to sell that Colin was one of the most alien Doctors, probably THE most alien. He really seemed like a guy from another planet who neither knew nor cared about how stupid he looked in those clothes.

Nicola Bryant said that she loved working with Colin Baker. She actually enjoyed acting with him more than with Peter Davison. Seeing them all these years later, I can safely say that they were good friends when they worked on the show and I expect they stayed in touch.

@@MichaelM28 They are referring to a 'story arc', meaning the way a story is told or planned out to make it well-structured and interesting . I.E. (In essence) : set the scene, then something different happens, then the climax (e.g. someone is suddenly put on trial), then the (re)solution and then ending. Google it. So, it's referring to the way it's been told/presented that they like, not anything to do with THE arc.

Colin Baker is a great actor that is severely underrated and underutilised. McCoy got the Hobbit etc and has been in several shows and films since. Colin needs a similar kind of comeback.

Colin's 79 years old so I hope he gets another good role before he shuffles off this mortal coil. I actually really like him as the Doctor but he deserves to be remembered for more than just that, especially since the 6th Doctor is one of the less popular incarnations.

I remember watching Season 23 Trial of a Time Lord during a PBS pledge marathon in San Jose all 14 episodes pledge breaks included! By the time it was over my brain was mush. I also demolished a bag of potato chips and a bottle of Coke. I have that cookbook!

When season 23 came out in the late 80s, it was ahead of its time: critics claimed no viewer could possibly cope with having to follow a "season long story arc" and when it was released on VHS as a "season boxed set", they assured us no one would want to "binge watch" such a thing. They were still telling us to expect to hate it when the DVD boxed set was released, but lo and behold, the rest of the world had caught up by then. Now this new set seems like just what the Doctor ordered.
My number one Doctor is finally getting a chance to the Blu Ray DVD Release for the first time!

Somehow I'm not convinced the trial footage used here was Colin acting. I think they filmed an actual trial he was involved in.

I've already got this blu-ray set on pre-order. This set has so much to offer, like the standalone version of 'Terror of the Vervoids' and the music-only option for all the episodes. I'm particularly keen to hear the re-created score for 'Mindwarp', since that has not been released on the 50th anniversary soundtrack, due to the original tapes being lost. Really looking forward to this coming out in September!

Colin Baker is my favourite Doctor Who incarnation actor and as a matter of fact, I've met him, this was back in October 2008 while he was involved in a production at The New Victoria Theatre in Woking, I was doing year 11 work experience there and then I had him sign a "What's on" brochure for me at Stage door
