When the Twinkie first came out they were only on the shelf for a few days. Today, after eliminating the route sales reps. and changing the recipe to extend the shelf life ,Twinkie's are on the shelf for 45 days. These cakes look a lot healthier.
as far as it's impossible to find 'twinkies' in françe i'm so grateful for this recipe! After i've watched the movie 'welcome to zombieland' i wanted so much to try those famous 'twinkies' !! Thank you so much! But I have to try to find yellow cake mix now lol
This recipe is more of a craft project than cooking since you spend so much time making all the little cake forms. It's also a huge waste of aluminum foil! Because you have to peel the foil from the finished cakes, they cannot be reused. :( When I decided to make these again, I made the small investment in the Wilton cake pan that is a perfect replica of the Twinkie shape. (Found at Michael's)
Hi, Thảo Minh - Sorry to hear the frosting is giving you trouble. There are a few possible reasons for the problem. 1) Did you measure all the ingredients correctly? Here's a link to the recipe so you can double-check amounts: allrecipes.com/recipe/homemade-cream-filled-sponge-cakes/detail.aspx. 2) Did you sift the confectioner's sugar before adding it to the butter and shortening mixture? This makes it easier to blend into the butter. 3) Did you add the confectioner's sugar in small amounts, mixing after each addition? This method makes it easier to blend ingredients. If you did all these things, we recommend adding 1 teaspoon of milk or cream to the frosting mixture and stirring gently with a spoon. Add additional teaspoons of liquid as needed until you get the frosting texture you want. Let us know how it turns out.
Here's a link to the web version of the recipe so you may print it out, brem oja. allrecipes.com/recipe/homemade-cream-filled-sponge-cakes/detail.aspx You can always find the recipe link at the top of the page under the Publish date or Show More.
Allrecipes If you're using a piping bag to fill the Twinkies, why cut a slit through the cakes? Just poke 3 holes along the bottom of them with a chopstick, then insert the piping tip and fill each one. Splitting the cakes will just make them more fragile and subject to falling apart when picked up or handled.
no...its made from flour, egg, sugar...that would be raw. but I suppose as Carl Sagen said "To make an apple pie from scratch you must first invent the universe"
Ha! I just bought the 8-Twinkie pan at HyVee for the sellout price of a whopping 50 cents! Now I just need the recipe! The stock man tried to push 2 on me, but I eat Keto and wasn't sure if I could find a Keto-friendly recipe for them, but I can surely make them for others. I may go back for another pan if I do find a Keto Twinkie recipe that actually tastes good! 😋😁
Thank you for your question, Katie. You can cool these over a bowl or an inverted plate. Just make sure there's space for the air to circulate - this helps with proper cooling. Enjoy!

when I click on the link all the recipes come up so I search for twinkies, the original recipe doesn't come up. so no use trying, and that's not the only one on your site that doesn't come up. not writing it down. and also the filling is not the same, these can be made in the mini corn dog maker, without stick's, and there's a recipe usiging white corn syrup and other thing's that look's just like the twinkie filling, but thank's for the video, can't make it if you don't list it.Nicky
May I ask? This isn't about the recipe above but this is about the Choco cornstarch Pudding. Please check that video. I have a question. And I need an answer because I'm going to make one tomorrow in our baking time at school

I tasted a store Twinkie once. But I don't usuAlly spit out food, but it was so terrible I could TASTE the chemicals in it. Ugh I spit it out. For a simpler recipe but different shape just make sponge cake, but fill it with cream!
The point is that if you make them yourself, YOU get to decide what's in them. Twinkies are really just pure chemicals though, they stay good forever lmao.
Seriously folks you care WAYYYYYY too much about the voice used to do these videos, do you really have to make the same comments on every video? It's meant to illustrate the recipe not the person's voice.

Great Facts my dude
They "look" healthier? Lol As if you can see the difference. And, "healthy" and Twinkies don't go in the same sentence no matter how they're made.
Lol!!!! Healthy twinkies......that’s a great oxymoron
ahhhhh .. makes alot of sense
You can actually lose weight eating twinkies if you maintain at 1800 calories a day diet
I did this with a lemon cake recipe, made from scratch not box. Then made cream cheese raspberry icing
Try it. You won't regret it.
SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY DELISH !!

cutting the bottoms risks it breaking, your better off slightly sticking the piping tip into the cakes in 3 spots

how is using "CAKE MIX" Homemade?
+Gareth Oakes Because cake mix is raw.
so true this isnt homemade
+Speaks the Truth You're still making the product at home, not buying it pre-packaged and pre-made. Not sure what's so hard to understand about that.
+Chubzdoomer but that's like making an apple crumble with tinned apples and ready made crumble mix...
Gareth Oakes wHY NOT GROw the apples yourselves?! Store bought apples are not homemade zomg!!!
I hope you can make the green sauce and replicate the Shrek Twinkie
You could use whipped cream with some sugar and vanilla.
