  • Unique Kerf Chair, Designed by Boris Goldberg, CNC routed into 1/2" Maple Plywood with Amana Tool® industrial router bits.
    www.toolstoday.com
    The chair legs were routed from plywood using the nesting technique with Amana's Solid Carbide Spiral Flute Plunge Downcut Router Bit #46202. Once the legs were glued together, the seat of the chair was created with Solid Carbide Spiral Compression Router Bit #46170, Carbide Tipped Plunging Round-Over Router Bit #49700 and Solid Carbide Mini Spiral Compression Router Bit #46180.

    Endcuts on frame should follow the seat lines, especialy on the back of seat where frame is completely exposed. Other than that, it' s a fine furniture project. My respect.

    Thank you so much for the inspiration. I've been wanting to try kerf bending for a while. If I can ask, after the pocket operation, how did you center your part when you flipped it for double sided machining? Did you use some sort of spacer?

    • @ToolsToday
      @ToolsToday  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Starsix Riggle, Using the scrap material as a ‘jig’ we flipped the chair and placed it within the cutout. We then used ¼” dowel to help space it. Also, because we cut slightly into the salvage board below, this gave us a way to help align it as well. Another way to do this would be to cut out the shape from a separate piece of plywood to use as a jig and place the part within the new jig.

    I have trouble with blowout on the top surface using my 3/16 amana compression bit. Bottom surface and edge blowout are pretty much non existent, but the initial passes almost always have some, especially cross grain. Using: techno cnc 3.5 hp, 18000 rpm, 150 ipm. Any advice? Hola. Intenté curvar ese tipo de tablero haciendo ranuras con una separacion de 1/2 pulgada y profundidad hasta la ultima lamina de madera pero no se curvava, seguía rígida, probé mojandola con agua caliente y no resultó. A que se deberá este problema: ¿a la direccion de la fibra de la ultima capa de madera?, ¿a la calidad de la madera?, ¿a la profundidad de la ranura que debe pasar la ultima capa de resina o pegamento?

    how deep is the kerf?

    • @ToolsToday
      @ToolsToday  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eryl Goduco, we cut the kerf deep enough to leave just the veneer, therefore the cut was approximately 15/32" deep.

    • @contamination1992
      @contamination1992 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ToolsToday. how about the grain patterns of the veneer?

    • @ToolsToday
      @ToolsToday  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Eryl, In regards to the grain patterns, to ensure the veneer doesn’t split we made sure to cut the bends perpendicular to the grain as much as possible. In addition, by soaking the wood this helps soften the veneer and make it more pliable. Let us know any further questions you may have.

    All of your tools are running backwards!!!! inside cuts CLOCKWISE, outside cuts COUNTERCLOCKWISE. Your spindle is spinning clockwise. run you cnc router the same way you would run a hand router. Try running a hand router the way you run your cnc router and the hand router will take off out of your hand for running incorrect direction. Besides that I like the chair!

    • @tmmalm14
      @tmmalm14 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sean, You are correct in regards to using a Conventional Cut direction with a hand router since a Climb Cut would pull the material out of your hand and be unsafe. However with a CNC the material is secured to the table and at times a Climb Cut is preferred as it can reduce tear-out and leave a cleaner cut depending upon the material type. Below is a link that talks a little more about how cut direction can effect the cut quality. There are some other dangers involved with a Climb Cut vs. a Conventional Cut but it's not unheard of to use either or a mix of both.

    Soory but this is cheating. It is not a carpentry. All work is done by the machine :-(

    • @ToolsToday
      @ToolsToday  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +George George , while you are correct this is not traditional carpentry, we did not state it was. CNC is cutting-edge technology that plays a large role in furniture manufacturing both on the industrial and Do-It-Yourself levels. More and more users across the world are using CNC machines to create furniture, signs, aerospace parts and much, much more.
      This is not cheating, there is a large amount of skill involved and work to be done before the CNC machine even makes the first cut.
      In addition, Toolstoday offers a huge range of new and old innovative router bits for hand held and router tables.
