@@mats8985 Sure they are right now. But their habitat is decreasing in size so fast its a cause to put them on the list, as with the size eventually the population will decrease insanely fast and perish as well..
I remember that as a kid, and even now as an adult, every time I saw the intro cinematic I always screamed in my head "Those enclosures are waaaaay too small for those species!". 😂
with planet zoo out it’s definitely a great way to be even more creative with builds and terrain, but the simplicity of this game will always bring me back to it! nostalgia is also helpful
I hear so much about Planet Zoo in the comments and how technical it can be! ZT2 is great even without the nostalgia, I can see the appeal for both games to be honest! They should just blend the 2 games together 😂
@@Tytar yea, PZ is great however it’s not gonna be for most people. If you want to do anything kinda advanced like making whole buildings it will take hours of learning before you can make it look decent.
@@Deerhunter60641I can’t get into pz, the builds people have made it in are incredible but I prefer the simplicity of zt2, also mods in zt2 let you add many things
100% agree. Planet Zoo is not a chill experience, imo, because there is just too much you can do. The simplicity of this game is highly appealing to me still. You boot up the game, place structures, animals, enjoy. In PZ it takes you hours to finish a good exhibit. I wish someone made a modern Zoo Tycoon. The mechanics were perfect, you just need to update it graphically
I LOVED this game as a child! Sometimes I wouldn’t even bother with a zoo, I would just make an open world for my animals instead because you could make waterfalls and mountains with the terrain tool, so it looked pretty cool - I’d just pretend I was an explorer 😅🙈
That's such a unique way to play! With the map sizes being as small as they are, opening up the entire thing as a wilderness place would be a really neat way to play!
Me too! I remember calling these types of zoos ''natural reserves''. I would just put prey and predator animals, some water bowls and herbivore food and see the circle of life do its thing. Sometimes I would follow a certain animal from birth till death and made stories for them. One of these ''zoos'' ended up with 300+ animals and would automatically crash my game when I opened it XD
@@iblobliboo8501i also did the same thing! I liked to call them sanctuaries and just watch through animals roam around it was the best entertainment for me as a kid
Pretty cool to see someone who never played the game before! Some notes if you are to play again.. And Easter Eggs and Trivia too! For staff gates you can place multiple gates per exhibit anywhere you want for ease of access. You are not limited to 1! When riding a tour vehicle you can press your number keys on your keyboard to switch what seat you're in if you want to get a different view. I don't know if you noticed or not but many animals have variants to have different colours and patterns! And some are coded to be more rare than others! Such as the White Tiger and King Cheetah for example! You can assign Keepers to specific exhibits if you want to by clicking on the clip board tab when you click on a keeper. Trainers are for training your marine show animals which are distinguished by the star in the MM icon when you adopt! You need to assign trainers to specific animals to do it though. The map which you can open up can teleport you anywhere on the map if you want to get around quickly! The fastest way to scroll though is to move your mouse to the edges of the screen. A hidden feature when terrain editing is that if you hold down Shift when painting or using the sculpting tools you bypass the fence barrier allowing you to make fences hilly or have paint bleed outside the fence! Now for Easter Eggs! 1. If you have a painting easel inside a Stokesosaurus exhibit occasionally the Stokesosaurus will use it and when it does it will put on glasses! 2. All animals have the ability to attack guests when unleashed and have unique animations for almost every species! Though only the Rex and Carnotaurus can straight up kill guests. And just like the original game only male guests can be attacked. 3. If you fail at the cloning mini game in the Extinct Research Lab you have a small chance of getting a Killer Penguin Egg! This is a reference to ZT1 and you can only get 1 egg from the lab! The Killer Penguin is also the only fully hidden animal in the game and cannot be unlocked for adoption! 4. A second hidden animal (also in extinct Animals) is the Quagga! The only way to obtain the Quagga without unlocking it is to find it's fossils and clone it at level 2 (Star rating 1 1/2 after finding all previous level's fossils). To unlock the Quagga for adoption permanently you have to release 1 of each extinct animal into the wild! They can also cross breed with the Zebra! Masai and Reticulated Giraffes can also cross breed! 5. Sometimes a Cave Man will spawn inside a Glacier when you place it! After some time the Glacier will melt freeing the Cave Man who will have a club and roam around your zoo as a normal guest! If by chance a Guest talks to the Cave Man the guest will then to to a Extinct Gift Cart or Gift Shop and buy a Cave Man club themselves! 6. The Moose Variant, Killer Penguin, Black Leopard, and the T. Rex/Carno guest attack are all references to the original game! 7. Sometimes when guests use the family restroom they will accidentally go into the wrong entrance and run out screaming! Causing other nearby guests to laugh at them. 8. Camels will sometimes spit on guests! 9. The agave cactus will bloom a flower after a few in game years! (Wiki says 50 years but I've had it happen in only 2.) 10. When you buy the Whale Shark or Deinosuchus they are not full grown! After 2 in game years they will grow to their full sizes! They are the only 2 animals in the game with 3 life stages! 11. Sugar Shock & Caffeine Craze: Suger Shock is enabled by having 5 or more Cotton Candy carts in your zoo! Young Guests who buy cotton candy will then zip around faster than normal! Caffeine Craze is similar but for Adults and is enabled by having 5 or more coffee stands in your zoo! Additionally having a coffee stand next to a Staff Building will activate Caffeine Craze for your staff! 12. If you spin the globe fast enough you will hear screaming people and even one yelling "We're all gonna die!" 13. When Guests buy a Lion, African Wild Dog, Komodo Dragon, or Giraffe Puppet from the Gift Cart/Shop after viewing said animals they will occasionally talk to the puppet if their Amusement Need is low! And that's all the easter eggs I can think of at this moment 😉There's likely a few more I've forgotten. Random Trivia! Their are 2 cut easter eggs! One is for Guests to use the Animal Easel (They would've painted the box art for the base game) and the other is for kids to kick balls! Both are incomplete and non-functional in the full game. It is unknown why these 2 easter eggs were cut from the game. The Asiatic Black Bear is the only animal in the game to have been abandoned by the devs! The animal was only able to be downloaded after completing the mobile game which would've given you a code to download the animal. However after Endangered Species the Bear was abandoned, leaving it buggy and unable to be obtained normally. It is the only animal not in Ultimate Collection! However a few years ago I took it upon myself to update the bear for the game and release it. You can find where to get it on the ZT2 Download Wiki if you're curious 😉
Oh my gosh, thank you SO much for sharing all of this!! This is so much information and it's seriously so cool!! I had no idea about that abandoned bear too! I love stuff like that in games! I need to look into that!! Thanks for sharing!
I use to play this game a ton as a child. I use to make a fence in front of the zoo & make the entire zoo one biome. After that I would customize the land to the animals that lived in the biome & let them live in the wild. It's fun to see what happens between the different animals. It's cool watching someone play the first time!
I'm glad you enjoyed seeing me try it out! It's a bummer I missed it growing up! That open range biome idea is really cool! Especially if you do 1st person mode I'm sure!!
You taught yourself English playing them?! Thats amazing! I can see how the intro would make you feel nostalgic too. It's well done and honestly the game is great. Im bummed I didnt get to play this as a kid!
I played ZT2 so much as a kid and teen. I would spend so much time as an employee running around making sure everyone is fed, clean, and seeing new baby's being born. I would also occasionally spin the world and hear the screams for a moment.
Someone mentioned that to me actually! The screaming from spinning the world thing. And I could also see how if you run around as a zookeeper you could really just play the game caring for your zoo, which honestly was an awesome thing to see in ZT2 vs ZT1!
It’s Great to see more people acknowledge how great this game is. This game is truly ahead of its time, especially you compare it to its third game. And with mods, I dare say its the best zoo game of all time
I've never seen the 2nd version before, it's pretty darn cool! I really love the first person view and how you can go around and take care of the animals yourself. The elevated walkway and jeep safaris are also a really fun addition!
It was a lot of fun getting to play it and see it from the 1st person perspective for sure. They added a lot of great things to this game. It'd honestly be a top contender vs. other games today if the map was bigger and scrolling was faster. That was really all that was wrong with it!
I actually just started up this game again a week or two ago! Not sure if you ever knew but there was an attempt by a mod team to redo Zoo Tycoon 2 with remade realistic animals/plants etc. called Radical Remake. It started in 2009 but only to this day about 65% of it is complete. It was rife with delays, team member drama (the lion wasn't allowed to be touched by anyone except the mod team member whose name was "Simba" and even when he ghosted for 6-7 years did one of the last solo team member touch it), and the constant migration of ZT2 sites didn't help (you could legit do a whole history of the site to site changes and drama involved). It is definitely a visual upgrade for the stuff that got done but is buggy. A Modder called LGFCM did a patch which helped a lot with the bugs, and she is making a remake for Extinct Animals. Funny enough this single person is nearly done with one expansion pack after one whole year.
Wow! That's a really interesting story I had no idea about! I've heard of similar projects like it in other games but not in ZT2! That's such a bummer they never got any further with it! I've seen a lot of projects in different games fail for similar reasons. The sad part about a lot of these group passion projects is feelings and drama can get in the way of the project vision because there's no sense of structure when it started...It's kind of like a group of people who love the game try to work together to make something happen but they find out they don't work well together even though they love the same game. That's tragic it never saw the light of day! I hope LGFCM finishes the extinct animal one! I would love to see stuff like that for this game! Thanks for sharing that awesome story!
@@Tytar Yeah, I had some fun times in the community but it kind of became a mess and an exclusive "country club" of sorts. People started becoming too focused on building ultra-realistic zoos for pretty screen shots and private use items (which were often better quality then most downloads publicly available) were circulated around the upper echelons. Drama and snobby sub-groups kind of dragged the community down. : (
@@Tytar Even though they didn't finish Radical Remake, there are other remakes (replacement of original animal designs with realistic ones) created by other users, and also an astronomic number of additional animals available for downloading. There are also mods that improve building, such as new fences, paths and elevated paths used as roofs. this allows you to create your own buildings instead of using the default ones, including the front gate. With all that, modded ZT2 is very similar to Planet Zoo.
In my opinion. ZT2 is the peak ZT game. The new one has great graphics, but it feels a bit more clunky. Or maybe it's my nostalgia glasses getting in the way.
I dont think it's your nostalgia glasses tbh. From what I heard about the new ZT, and comparing it to what I just played, I might have to agree that this is the pinnacle of ZT!
There's a fun glitch where you raise the land really high, place down a tank (but don't connect it, just make it a wall) then lower the land, the tank will become a glass wall at the lands level. It's a great way to make viewing spots for exhibits or make a giant open ecosystem exhibit with the glass wall protecting the entrance, while the raised paths and safari tours (etc.) are used to move guests around to view them. This game was dope!!
Squeky clean! I would not recommend to wash the crocodile! Loved this video love the mix of humor, review and nostalgia, your channel is like a warm hug :) These old games have so much love in them that a lot of new games lack, they really put time in small details for the player. And congratulations on 1500 subs! I just congratulated you on 1400 this is insane :D
My channel is like a warm hug?! 🥺 thats so nice of you to say! Im really glad you enjoyed the video. As you've seen in some of the behind the scenes stuff, I take a while planning and prepping these videos! Its a great feeling when you guys tell me the video is great, because that means it paid off! Speaking of which, I have an awesome behind the scenes video coming up where I break down how I plan and prepare a video. It'll be great to watch especially for the sim challenges part!! And I love that you just cheered me on for 1400! lol! We've got this! We're going to get viral, it's just going to take some time!!😄
I loved this game growing up! I was so hoping planet zoo would bring some of that feeling but it really just focused on all the building and that's my least favorite part. I loved the management in zt2.
I haven't looked into Planet Zoo but I am curious! I hear some people say it's worth playing and others, not so much! Even though it doesn't capture the Zoo Tycoon magic, what would you say about Planet Zoo?
@@Tytar Planet zoo is great ..if you really love making neat enclosures and have a mind that puts digital architecture together out of random parts. For me, I liked the management stuff in the older zoo games so much more. I hate the tediousness of building things.
Yeah. I play both games. And i hoped the same, to get something like Zoo Tycoon 3. But if you see it like that, you will be disappointed. I buy Planet Zoo, but i didn't play it for 2 years after i played it again differently (And than it makes fun). Planet Zoo give you a lot of possibilities, but no restrictions or real goals. If you only want to make the animals and guest happy, you don't get happy by yourself. So it more about building a good looking Zoo instead of playing one. Building is really great, but than it becomes far more complicated, so you can watch 100 of videos. Its designe your Zoo, not play a Zoo. Also the DLC policy is really expensive. So only buy in sale. Also the basegame includes only mostly african animals and really standard animals are inside DLC-Packs (like Pinguins, Icebear). In the End, when you look for something what looks great, than Planet Zoo is good. But Zoo Tycoon 2 has, even when it is old and only building is limited, a lot of good points who is not catched by newer games. Missions are more creativ (Challangegamemode is better), More Diverse Animals. You can take care of the animals by yourself. Better Guest-AI.
Agreed! I was so excited for PZ but got so overwhelmed with the building mechanics. And pathing just feels SO clunky to me. But the graphics and animals are amazing. I want someone to make the zoo for me but let me put/manage the animals 🤣
Ah, this game was my childhood... I only had the Marine Mania expansion and the Dino Danger premium DLC (basically a small demo for the Extinct Animals expansion), but I would just spend hours turning the whole zoo into an exhibit for one biome of animals and just releasing them, or just letting guests come in before fencing off the entrance and letting the animals lose.
I got this game as a kid and played it several years later and i was so impressed with it. It held up so well and the graphics are still great. My favorite part was cleaning up the exhibits and brushing the animals. The music is also so iconic.
The best part about Zoo Tycoon 2 is that it was moddable. My early TH-cam days as a child were spent watching Zoo Tycoon horror machinima. There were mods for headless, bloody human corpses, one that gave the gorillas glowing red eyes and bloody hands, and mods to make the human models alien. The videos would be subtitled and follow the first-person perspective of the hero being witness to all kinds of terrible, gory things. The Things from Oslane Swamp is a good example of this. I would genuinely be scared by them!
Wow! I knew there were a lot of mods, but I had no idea they went so deep and got so creative! I would've never guessed horror mods were a thing in ZT2!
I just love watching you playing the Sims/Sims 2 and Zoo Tycoon/2, and hopefully all of the Rollercoaster Tycoon games, 2 was my favorite haha! It just makes my heart happy with nostalgia and makes forget any stress with college that I'm going through I swear. You always make the best ideas for these videos too and I mean that. And seeing you enjoy the games too, reminds me why I love them so much myself!! Can't wait to see more! 😀
And yes 100% do these games hold up today, nostalgia or no nostalgia, without these games being what they were 20 years ago, idk where the world of gaming would even be. It all had to start somewhere to get where we are today lol
Comments like these really keep me going. My primary motivation is to positively impact people's lives through laughter and joy, so I'm really happy my content is doing that for you. 🙂 And I intend to keep it that way! As for Rollercoaster Tycoon...I might have one in the lineup somewhere...I'll leave it at that! But my lineup goes until March 2023..FYI. 😅 I try really hard to offer unique takes and perspectives on these games and the challenges I create therein, so I'm happy that's coming across! My next upload should be out within the next few days! I'm really excited for you to see it! Thank you so much for your support and your views on this channel! It means the world to me!
I had (and always have) the first Zoo Tycoon 2...and some years after I get it, I wanted the ultimate collection (without success, sadly). This game was a big part of my childhood. JUST THE INTRO :')
Hi Mr. T Rex! Good to see you again! The intro I left in the video because I knew it would mean something to a lot of people even though I had never played it. :) These old games have a way of doing that with their nostalgia!
Oh my God. I think I still have this game on CD in my parents' house. God. It was my FAVORITE game!! Willing to bet it's still amazing. So many features. THAT THEME TAKES ME BACK. AHHH
It was such an amazing experience to get to play it for the first time! I wish I wouldve played it as a kid! You should see if you can get it and play it again!
I grew up with this game, I even remember buying a few of the dlcs and then the complete collection that cost like half my moms monthly salary at the time ^^'' In terms of graphic it obviously isn't the best compared to todays games but damn it still holds up so good! I wish that this game got a remake, a straight up remake and I would pay a good amount for that game :) I know that planet zoo exists but I'm missing the key features of being able to care for the animals myself, training them and having more challenges and achievements.
They really should remake it! Or at least remaster it! If they updated the graphics, doubled the map sizes, and gave a way to get around the screen faster, it would probably beat most games out today!
Isn't it crazy how that works?! I play The Sims 1 a lot on this channel, and I remember it being WILD how good the graphics were to me as a kid. Now it's stylistic but old. 😂
@@Tytar I can relate 😂 I grew playing Sims 2 and 3, till this day I still play Sims 3 and honestly it’s still Fantastic. Sims 3 in my opinion is the best Sims created, when sims 4 came out it was such a disappointment for me. Like yah the graphics are kinda better but the game play is so limited compared to Sims 3.
@@lyannbouman62 Agreed for sure. The only thing I like about 4 is the building and character creation. Live a life mode is honestly very boring. What's wild is I think 1 & 2 are the best entries in Sims which is why those two I cover on my channel, but that doesn't mean 3 is bad! I have Sims 3 on my horizon, that's for sure. :) Thanks for sharing your stories! I love reading them
Enjoyed the video. Small zoological correction though, Tasmanian Tigers are far from the only carnivorous Marsupials. Tasmanian Devils and others are alive and kicking.
Something I've noticed in the opening , even way back when I first started playing it , was that the enclosure for half of the animals were waaaay too small. 😂
I know right?! Especially that elephant one. Like, yea I know its just an intro but I thought it was actually very telling with how small these maps ended up being, maybe that was the developers' way of letting us know if we want all the animals they have to be in small enclosures! 😂
As a kid I never got to play the full version of this game, and was only able to play the demos, but I distinctly remember being very obsessed with videos online of people making houses in this game
I love this game, I play Planet Zoo now. But I missed aspects of ZT2. Definitely missing the aquariums. Except the marine shows lol. Getting a five star show is tough.
I love your comment so much. Ill remember you, for sure. 😎 Welcome to the party. 🥳🥳🥳 Come check out my Sims 1 upload coming out tomorrow! You're going to love it if you loved this one!
Omg I remember watching others play this game but never being able to play it. I now have a pc to run it but I don’t know how to get the game. I’ve tried downloading it but it doesn’t work for my pc bc it needs a disk. How are you playing it?
I’ve switched over to Planet Zoo. It took me a couple of years to learn how to play it but I’ve gotten to where I can easily plan a zoo now just by watching content creators to get ideas. But I can see why people prefer that game now over Zoo Tycoon 2. The map is bigger. It’s much more realistic.
@@Tytar Yes, I would recommend Planet Zoo and unlike Zoo Tycoon 2, Planet Zoo has over 11 expansion packs/DLCs with a few more expected in 2023. They recently launched a Twilight DLC with a free exhibit update for 1.11 which is getting people excited because they introduced the flight mechanic with the Egyptian Fruit Bat. It is hinting towards birds and there are a lot of bird fans in the Planet Zoo community.
Wow this is awesome info! Thank you! I really might have to cover it on the channel at some point! I hear a lot about it in my comment sections for my Zoo Tycoon coverage and it sounds like a game I would enjoy
@@Tytar Planet Zoo is an amazing game, but you have to keep in mind that it's really detailed, and the building mechanism is pretty hard to learn. To really make your zoos look good you have to spend a lot of time in the game. It's the best and most detailed game in its genre, but you can get easily turned off by the learning curve.
@@rivai4908 I hear this a lot...I'm a fan of technical games as long as its UI and concepts are well thought-out. If it's confusing because it's UI or game design is cluttered and confusing, I probably won't like it as much. Thanks for sharing. Im getting so many Planet Zoo comments that at the very least Ill at least watch a few videos on the game
i'm really glad you asked that question, are these old games better or is it just nostalgia? i would say there is definitely something about them that makes them better. just a quality of uniqueness, passion and purpose behind why the game is being made. many of these old franchises have some story or "eureka moment" behind why they exist. such as Will Wright's house burning down in real life, which made him think more about his possessions and what they meant to him, eventually leading to the idea of The Sims. not to say that there aren't games being made nowadays out of passion, or from an exciting new idea brought to life. or, to say that games back then weren't made with profit in mind. i get that game studios back then wanted to make money too!! back then, companies understood that the best way to make money was for their executives to LISTEN to their developers and beta testers, to make sure the product was good. like, a good and FUN game was one that would sell copies and make money!! they understood this lol! nowadays, companies are happy to "trick" players with fancy graphics and gimmicks, cut down on actual content and fun, then try to make up for it later with DLC, "in game stores" and lootboxes. i'm so glad there are a few companies left, like Larian Studios, whose motto is still that the game must be GOOD, and the money is secondary (because they have the confidence a good game will be able to fund their company). they even stopped working on a DLC for Baldur's Gate 3 because they realized their hearts just weren't in it and they were going through the motions...when is the last time any of us have heard of a company doing that? so i definitely recommend that game, as well as a citybuilder game i've had my eye on that goes into early access in less than a week (April 26) it's called Manor Lords and is developed completely by just one guy, Greg Styczen. there are still good games being made, but the profit motives and executive's idea of what should be prioritized, has warped everything so much, that if you told them "video games are supposed to be fun" they would probably laugh. it's weird to think about. but i'm grateful for the spirit of passion that still comes through on a lot of games being made today. mostly indie games. ok wow i didn't mean to write an essay here, it just happened :)
ALLI!! I love essay comments! 😅 I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way when it comes to older games. Nostalgia does impact some things when replaying games, yes, but these older games really did provide something newer ones just lack. I love where you said they have a story or a "eureka moment" I honestly had no clue about Will Wright's house burning down in real life. That's crazy. You taught me something new! That fire accidentally impacted so many lives! Back in the old days, game companies would focus on making a fun game first, and then the profits will follow. New games for the most part are designed with profits at the forefront and the fun is secondary. This is why so many games today feel like they lack heart. The great irony is: if these greedy publishers were actually smart, they'd focus on making a good game first because it would get them more money in the end! I've heard a lot of good things about baldur's gate 3. Haven't tried it yet though. Manor Lords huh? It sounds like something I'd honestly play in my free time!! Thank you for your recommendation, I want to take a look at it! I also have another theory to why old games are fun and new ones aren't. My theory has been that due to technological limitations, game developers had to get creative to beat their competition. Games at the time were very limited and would fail if they weren't impressive, so it was easy to be unimpressive and clunky to play. The great games though exploited what they were good at (in a good way) and pushed the boundaries to surpass the graphical limitations and tech limitations. Look at today, we have all the bells and whistles one could need to make a high-graphics feature rich game. But there's no reason to push past this now. The only reason is for the passion, but now that profits are the focus, passion is gone, and developers and publishers think high graphics and feature-rich content are all you need for a great game, but this is not the case.
I'm glad it takes you back! The old Zoo Tycoons (and games for that matter) are where it's at! People sleep on these games but really they shouldn't! They're amazing!
Awesome man I was really wondering whether to get this one or the first one again, I love the nostalgia of the first one but this one has so much more content!
That is a very good question. Me personally, I prefer the original Zoo Tycoon 1 and it's expansions. However, Zoo Tycoon 2 really wow'd me in many ways. I can totally see why for some people Zoo Tycoon 2 is better, and honestly, it is. I think my opinion on Zoo Tycoon 1 is flawed just because I prefer the style and the aesthetic. BUT! Zoo Tycoon 2 is the better game in terms of features, it's 3D, quality of life improvements, etc. Zoo Tycoon1 is abandonware, so you'll need to download it from a source you deem trustworthy, or have the discs like I do. Zoo Tycoon 2 you can pick up here: amzn.to/3gMThe0 😃
Dang my 3rd post, I cant remember zoo tycoon if you could place marine animals in just water with out a fence but you can place them in the shallow/deep water terrain that you used to customize the habitats easily. You can save space by placing all your guest items on the elevated paths, I made a zoo that was completely cages, You can put more then 1 gate on a habitat unlike planet zoo & keepers will use the short cuts. Mods made this game so much better. the modding fanbase was still going strong last time i checked 5 years ago so who knows!
I love it! I had no idea you could get marine animals in water without a fence with the shallow and deep water terrain! I wish I would've known that! I'll need to look into the mods too! I wonder if they have some for scrolling the screen faster and things!
There is a way to scroll pretty sure you use W A S D and scrolling in I forget but the tutorial always shows. The Walking with dinosaur mods were on another lvl.
😂😂😂I had another comment point this out too. Karma is going to get me and some rogue tasmanian devil is going to jump out at me from the bushes over this
@@Tytar LOL thats just the only other living example, there are lots of HUGE marsupials in the fossil record that hunted other animals and ate meat. Thylacoleo is one of them and somebody made a horror movie around it called Carnifex that is coming out soon.
I played Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 growing up, never did play 1 or 2! I've considered doing 2 on my channel! Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is on my list of games to cover but it's on the schedule for 2023! I've got videos planned all the way until March 2023 right now! lol. I played a lot of Sim Theme Park too which I wanted to cover, but I couldn't get it to work on my PC. If I can, I'd like to cover that at some point soon too!
You made a larger map mod and there's hardly any out there? That alone would make the game so much better! I'm surprised there aren't a ton of those out there! Good on you for making one! Is it hosted anywhere?
Tasmanian tigers aren't the only marsupial carnivore (like the Tasmanian devil is still alive) and many other terrifying predators in prehistoric Australia and South America. Just where a famous case of humans causing their extinction in recent history
Hi! I’m not much of a gamer these days but this brought so much nostalgia back and I was wondering how to still play it. If I got my hands on a cd of this game, could I play it on any modern laptop with a disc driver or do I need a certain kind of pc or system to still run this game?
Hi! omg so sorry for taking so long to reply to you. are you still needing help? I believe there is a link in the description of this video people have successfully used to purchase this game. and it helps out the channel by using the link. 😇 Let me know if it works for you too! I believe it's a digital download
I always played this game as a kid and I want it again!! Except when I’d play I’d get bored and make enclosures where the predators got to hunt prey lol, and when I got really bored I would let it be a free range zoo so the guests can get up close and eaten by the predators 😂
It really does! Honestly when I was playing this I kept thinking of Sims 2. They're very similar that way with their upgrades to graphics, quality of life, etc.!
Oh boy i miss this game So much. I remember this one time i watched an archaeopteryx (?) baby get eaten as soon as it hatched and from then on i moved unhatched eggs to a different enclosure. Normal game moments 👍
A remaster of this game would be mind-blowing, especially since it's impossible to buy the original game in a lot of countries now. We need to make a petition or an email or something to beg Microsoft Games to make it happen !
I really miss this game😭 May i know where to purchased it or download it for free? it is no longer in playstore nor microsoft store😭 I dont like to play the latest version of it😥
I play Zoo Tycoon 2 in obsessed spurts several times a year. Never Freeform (I hate the lack of challenges and goals), always Campaign mode (the vastly superior option). I'm not at all concerned with aesthetics, my "zoos" are mostly Animal Refuges.
Theres so much nostalgia!! I never played this as a kid but I could literally feel the nostalgia with that intro! I had to leave it in the video!! It's crazy how well the game holds up today
@@Tytar I agree! I really hope to get a computer to be able to play these again. Just using the Ole Xbox for my gaming needs. Love your videos by the way, just found you a couple days ago! Keep up the great work and you will have a million subscribers before you know it!
That would be awesome if Jeep® sponsored me. 😂 Good to see you again Viktor! Im glad you liked the animal I chose! I wanted to choose a really awesome one! There's colorized footage of it online too! It's wild to see if you havent yet!
Do you know how can I buy this game in digital format? I know that now we have the Planet Zoo, but I'd like to play the old game. I also know that we can just download it from a website, but I'd like to have an original version. 😕
I still personally play this game a lot Even though it's old outdated graphics are a turnoff sometimes, it's just a great game. You dont find many games with such a simple and fun chill style Love Zoo Tycoon 2 always have
I feel your pain! My laptop still works but it's getting close to the end of it's life! And I've been there when I don't have a good laptop and all I want to do is relive some old games...
I've been seeing this comment a lot! I might have to do that. :) I appreciate the compliment about the video and your time watching it! I wanted to capture the game in a way that those that played it before could enjoy it and those that hadn't played it could enjoy it too!
@@Tytar btw not sure if anyone mentioned, but instead of making the ground high for guests to see the show there is a transparent tank wall for shows, or you can click and drag tank walls to lower them
Sorry but have to say it: There are several species of carnivorous marsupials. Some of them are even alive today, like the Tasmanian Devil And there’s been some prehistoric ones like Thylacoleo (the Marsupial Lion) or Thylacosmilus
Thank you for the correction! I had someone else correct me on this too, so you're one of two that have let me know I was wrong, I appreciate it honestly because I thought I knew what I was talking about but I definitely didn't lol 😅
@@Tytar yea mods help out a lot to make that imaginary zoo come to life, but you can like only have between 400 to 500 mods depending on ya pc specs I think, cause the game does get slower due to all the mods
I have some livestreams of it and some planet zoo, but yes I think there will be uploads. At the moment, I don't know when. But I know people love it, so I am open to it.
Planet Coaster huh? I've never even heard of that! But I've had lots of people requesting Planet Zoo here on this channel! I have a long list of uploads coming out...but keep your eye out. I might have some stuff on the horizon you mentioned in this comment! 😎
@@Tytar Sweet Planet Zoo has a tone of DLC'S like the North America Pack, the Twilight Pack so you can put Raccoon's, red fox's, Beaver's, Moose and even Cougar's in your Zoo now
I was in your situation exactly...I picked up a USB DVD reader on Amazon and it's been a gamechanger for me. If you're into your old games, this thing comes in handy. Here's one like I use: amzn.to/3Yyg4L3
ZT2 improved over ZT1 in a lot of ways... and yet, I can't help but like the first game more. ZT2 has a lot of extra functions, and a much more detailed system for building exhibits, but it doesn't have all the fun easter eggs and cheat codes that made ZT1 so enjoyable for me. No siccing birds on your guests or statues transforming into mermaids. What you see is what you've got, more or less. It was a big bummer switching from 1 to 2 and realizing that I couldn't randomly change the colors of my guests' clothes anymore. Don't get me wrong, ZT2 is still a great game. But I miss those fun little ZT1 secrets.
After having revisited both games, I actually agree with you! I try not to be biased to my nostalgia, but in this case, I don't think it's nostalgia. Honestly I just feel ZT1 had a unique charm the 2nd game didn't have. Plus ZT2 has some issues that are deal breakers for me. The camera and the size of the map being major ones for me. I'm sure there are mods but I don't want to be searching for mods to make the game more playable
Hmm. I didnt play using a disc. You can get the game here if you're looking to buy it. amzn.to/3gEumZS Otherwise, Id go to google and search "how to play zoo tycoon 2 on windows 10" if thats what youre using. Also look up how to run something in compatibility mode. That might help.
Thanks to EVERYONE for the recommendation to play Zoo Tycoon 2. CHEERS to 1,500 subscribers! 😎
I really hope you enjoy it 🙂
you should review the series Carnivores Dinosaur Hanter!
I still play this game sometimes. The fact that Polar Bears were considered least concern when this game was made is wild. We messed them up so fast!
Polar Bears were considered a least concern?? Wow!
It is
Most of animals in this game r now endangered or near extinct
I mean...what have we done💀
@@Tytar They we’re before listed as Vulnerable recently
Lol the population of polar bears is increasing
@@mats8985 Sure they are right now. But their habitat is decreasing in size so fast its a cause to put them on the list, as with the size eventually the population will decrease insanely fast and perish as well..
I remember that as a kid, and even now as an adult, every time I saw the intro cinematic I always screamed in my head "Those enclosures are waaaaay too small for those species!". 😂
I think it was telling us that these map sizes are gonna be small, so get ready! 😂
thought same lol
The opening scene already gives enough nostalgia
I always tried to recreate the opening cutscene, but it never worked out. The exhibits as presented were always too small and with the wrong fences. 😅
Got chills from that omg
@@ripperrex7883 That honestly bothered me a lot even as a kid. I would always be like "Those cages are too small!"
with planet zoo out it’s definitely a great way to be even more creative with builds and terrain, but the simplicity of this game will always bring me back to it! nostalgia is also helpful
Planet zoo feels like using sketch up or some other 3d softwhare
One of these ''zoos'' ended up with 300+ animals and would automatically crash my game when I opened it XD
although i imagine some animals werent happy lol getting that >:( notification all the time lmao
I would put people in there to get eaten by lions 😭😭😭😂
(Wiki says 50 years but I've had it happen in only 2.)
12. If you spin the globe fast enough you will hear screaming people and even one yelling "We're all gonna die!"
@@Tytar You're welcome 🙂
lol i did not know about the shift in terrain tool and giraffe cross breeding, cheers Horse
My favorite Easter egg is dropping adult guests into the dolphin or orca exhibit and they'll have a cute interaction animation
@@poisonapple6138 I had no idea this was even a thing! 😆 That's so neat!
Yeah making an open safari of sorts was awesome. I loved to make realistically huge penguin colonies.
My Favorite game ever.
when u pick a map with the globe menu, if you spin the globe really quick and continuously, the globe screams!
wait really?! It screams? thats crazy! 😂 Im going to have to hop on real fast and see that
I grew up on these games, taught myself english playing them, just seeing the intro made me feel so nostalgic.
This was my whole childhood.I still have this game right now with all expansions and i modded it to have hundreds of animals and stuff.
I've heard there are a lot of mods for this game!
so nostalgic also you had me dying at 11:14 hahaha
It’s Great to see more people acknowledge how great this game is.
This game is truly ahead of its time, especially you compare it to its third game.
And with mods, I dare say its the best zoo game of all time
if you play this game again, spin the globe as fast as you can, it unlocks a sound everytime you do it
Woah!! No way?! That's an AWESOME easter egg!
I honestly couldn't tell if those are people screaming or chimps screaming when you spin the globe.
@@Tytar up to date graphics would make it super cool!
Nope, ZT2 was definitely the best ZT that ever existed and still is.
Planet Zoo feels more like a building simulator with animal set pieces.
@@ripperrex7883 that - that’s what it is meant to be?
There's a fun glitch where you raise the land really high, place down a tank (but don't connect it, just make it a wall) then lower the land, the tank will become a glass wall at the lands level. It's a great way to make viewing spots for exhibits or make a giant open ecosystem exhibit with the glass wall protecting the entrance, while the raised paths and safari tours (etc.) are used to move guests around to view them. This game was dope!!
Woah!! Ok, that's a really cool glitch. I'm going to have to try that out now.
I agree! All of my zoos in planet zoo feel a little ugly because I am not great at making buildings 😅
I've heard about this concept a time or two, I should try that! That's a neat concept to build a biome like that!
Your 2nd comment is so true too! I couldn't agree more!!

This game was way ahead of it time. But funny to say I remember playing it as a kid thinking the graphics were like spectacular 😂
@@lyannbouman62 Agreed for sure. The only thing I like about 4 is the building and character creation. Live a life mode is honestly very boring. Zoo tycoon was my childhood game, and I always played it with my dad. Thank you tytar for bringing back my memories and keep up the good work!
That's so nice of you to say. I'm so happy you enjoyed. I will continue to do my best to bring the best content possible!
Enjoyed the video. Small zoological correction though, Tasmanian Tigers are far from the only carnivorous Marsupials. Tasmanian Devils and others are alive and kicking.
True!! Good catch and excellent correction! I appreciate you sharing that! I threw you a heart and a like, hopefully others see it too!
You can make houses in this game? 😮
I love this game, I play Planet Zoo now. But I missed aspects of ZT2. Definitely missing the aquariums. Except the marine shows lol. Getting a five star show is tough.

Map size was definitely an issue for me when I did ZT2. So would you recommend Planet Zoo? I hear mostly positive things about it
@@Tytar Yes, I would recommend Planet Zoo and unlike Zoo Tycoon 2, Planet Zoo has over 11 expansion packs/DLCs with a few more expected in 2023.
Im getting so many Planet Zoo comments that at the very least Ill at least watch a few videos on the game
your terraforming skill and creativity are amazing, if it was me i would just build flat terrain for all animal XD
lol thank you!! I wanted them to look nice for the video!
Awww what a nice positive video! Loved it 💛 Zoo Tycoon Nostalgia made me click but now I’m going to check out your channel!
i'm really glad you asked that question, are these old games better or is it just nostalgia? i would say there is definitely something about them that makes them better.
just a quality of uniqueness, passion and purpose behind why the game is being made. many of these old franchises have some story or "eureka moment" behind why they exist. such as Will Wright's house burning down in real life, which made him think more about his possessions and what they meant to him, eventually leading to the idea of The Sims.
not to say that there aren't games being made nowadays out of passion, or from an exciting new idea brought to life. or, to say that games back then weren't made with profit in mind. i get that game studios back then wanted to make money too!! back then, companies understood that the best way to make money was for their executives to LISTEN to their developers and beta testers, to make sure the product was good. like, a good and FUN game was one that would sell copies and make money!! they understood this lol! nowadays, companies are happy to "trick" players with fancy graphics and gimmicks, cut down on actual content and fun, then try to make up for it later with DLC, "in game stores" and lootboxes.
i'm so glad there are a few companies left, like Larian Studios, whose motto is still that the game must be GOOD, and the money is secondary (because they have the confidence a good game will be able to fund their company). they even stopped working on a DLC for Baldur's Gate 3 because they realized their hearts just weren't in it and they were going through the motions...when is the last time any of us have heard of a company doing that?
so i definitely recommend that game, as well as a citybuilder game i've had my eye on that goes into early access in less than a week (April 26) it's called Manor Lords and is developed completely by just one guy, Greg Styczen.
there are still good games being made, but the profit motives and executive's idea of what should be prioritized, has warped everything so much, that if you told them "video games are supposed to be fun" they would probably laugh. it's weird to think about. but i'm grateful for the spirit of passion that still comes through on a lot of games being made today. mostly indie games.
ok wow i didn't mean to write an essay here, it just happened :)
La cantidad de mods habla mucho del juego.
ugh this brings me back! the new zoo tycoon is not the same! i miss the old zoo tycoons so much!
@@Tytar thanks! Also the modding community in zoo tycoon 2 is bigger, but I also prefer the aesthetic of the original 😁
Growing up, playing this game makes me angry what Frontier has left out of the game.

Tasmanian Devil: Am I a joke to you?
😂😂😂I had another comment point this out too. Karma is going to get me and some rogue tasmanian devil is going to jump out at me from the bushes over this
@@Tytar LOL thats just the only other living example, there are lots of HUGE marsupials in the fossil record that hunted other animals and ate meat. Thylacoleo is one of them and somebody made a horror movie around it called Carnifex that is coming out soon.
All these nostalgic sounds made me emotional 😂
Aww I'm glad! That's always an awesome feeling. I get it when I play games I used to play too! Nothing beats it in my opinion!
@@Tytar did you play rollercoaster tycoon growing up? You might find interest in that game
Dang! This looks better than the first game!
Its a huge improvement!
I smell a challenge coming with this game! 😂😂
I love doing challenges for everyone. 😂 Maybe I should do a soccer one since you can kick a ball around in this game. 😂😂😂
@@Tytar do it!
So glad to see people playing this almost want to stream it myself
You definitely should! The game is a great one to play!
Zoo tycoon is Kinda one of the best Zoo game i ever played.I still want to buy CDs with this game so I can play it one more time.
i just remember constantly having to hire people to pick up poop
So, when are you playing Mall Tycon? 😂 That was a good one too!
Once you get the mods, the game is on sterroids. (And I made mods too, including a larger map which there are not many of those mods around)
Yeah. Mods really enhance the gameplay.
You made a larger map mod and there's hardly any out there? That alone would make the game so much better! I'm surprised there aren't a ton of those out there! Good on you for making one! Is it hosted anywhere?
11:17 😂 The Creature Is Called A Sivatherium It Is Related To Giraffes? Didn't You Know?🦒
Tasmanian tigers aren't the only marsupial carnivore (like the Tasmanian devil is still alive) and many other terrifying predators in prehistoric Australia and South America.
11:40 😂
I always played this game as a kid and I want it again!! Except when I’d play I’d get bored and make enclosures where the predators got to hunt prey lol, and when I got really bored I would let it be a free range zoo so the guests can get up close and eaten by the predators 😂
I love it! ZT2 offered so many cool ways to play, I was blown away to be honest! Especially for its age!
I never played this game either but it definitely seems like it holds up today! (Same w sims 2 lol)
It really does! Honestly when I was playing this I kept thinking of Sims 2. They're very similar that way with their upgrades to graphics, quality of life, etc.!
I played the original zoo tycoon to death. Then my dad got the sequel as a random gift one summer. Safe to say my baby gamer self was obsessed.
Now that's an awesome dad you got there! I can understand that you were obsessed with this game! It still holds up today!
Zoo Tycoon 2 is my favorite of the trilogy. I usually like watching the lions in their pen
I can see why!! The game is great
Oh boy i miss this game So much. I remember this one time i watched an archaeopteryx (?) baby get eaten as soon as it hatched and from then on i moved unhatched eggs to a different enclosure. Normal game moments 👍
what?! a baby hatchling got eaten?! I didnt know that was even possible in this game! 😭
I loved this game. I made a copy of several famous zoos for fun.
That is so neat!! What a cool idea!
Would you be able to give a demo of how you were able to download the game? I have a Mac, and I am looking to get it onto my computer.
Yo lo tengo en rar amigo, te lo paso si querés.
A remaster of this game would be mind-blowing, especially since it's impossible to buy the original game in a lot of countries now. We need to make a petition or an email or something to beg Microsoft Games to make it happen !
Seriously though! I don't think you can get it most ways in the U.S. either
I really miss this game😭 May i know where to purchased it or download it for free? it is no longer in playstore nor microsoft store😭 I dont like to play the latest version of it😥
I had the DS version which obviously was less resource intensive and more 2d, but for a ds release, it was really good
I had no idea there was a DS version! That's neat!
in 2014 i was playing zoo tycoon 2 because its one of the few games my sister let me play on her laptop and it was fire
That's awesome you got to play this game. This is a good one to be able to play if you can't play any other games
I give this video a 10/10 bro I love zoo games this 🎉❤
I play Zoo Tycoon 2 in obsessed spurts several times a year. Never Freeform (I hate the lack of challenges and goals), always Campaign mode (the vastly superior option).
I'm not at all concerned with aesthetics, my "zoos" are mostly Animal Refuges.
Everyone's got their way to play for sure! I can see why you keep coming back to this game though. It holds up very well today
this game was really ahead of its time
It really was!!
Bros having the time of his life
holy cow i feel like i booted up this game last week with that loading screen, but its been probably 16 years since ive played this!?!?
Theres so much nostalgia!! I never played this as a kid but I could literally feel the nostalgia with that intro! I had to leave it in the video!! It's crazy how well the game holds up today
@@Tytar I agree! I really hope to get a computer to be able to play these again. Just using the Ole Xbox for my gaming needs. Love your videos by the way, just found you a couple days ago! Keep up the great work and you will have a million subscribers before you know it!
it made me nostalgic thanks ;)
Youre welcome! Good timing on checking out the channel! 😄
I hope Jeep® sponsors you.
And I am very honoured that a Tasmanian tiger is named after me 🥰
That would be awesome if Jeep® sponsored me.
Hi there! People have been telling me getting it from here works. Hopefully it does for you too amzn.to/3gMThe0
Where did you bought the game ? Nice video too !
You can get it here! amzn.to/3gMThe0
I still personally play this game a lot
Even though it's old outdated graphics are a turnoff sometimes, it's just a great game. You dont find many games with such a simple and fun chill style
Love Zoo Tycoon 2 always have
It really is a good one! I just revisited it again for a stream actually. It's so easy to pick up and start playing to be honest
Idk about you but that intro and soundtrack smacks
It really does. I made sure to not speak during it because I didnt want to ruin it. 😅
This was def my fave game when i was younger. Def would play this still if i have better laptop again 🤭
I feel your pain! My laptop still works but it's getting close to the end of it's life! And I've been there when I don't have a good laptop and all I want to do is relive some old games...
You should try this game with mods if you get time! Great video as well
I've been seeing this comment a lot! I might have to do that. :) I appreciate the compliment about the video and your time watching it! I wanted to capture the game in a way that those that played it before could enjoy it and those that hadn't played it could enjoy it too!
I could be wrong since I haven't played this game in years, but I think you can change the inclination of the camera with middle click possibly?
Yea I tried that! Unless the game wasn't registering my mouse type, the middle button wasn't working for me sadly!
@@Tytar Ah maybe I am misremembering then!
@@eoau I wish you were right though! haha! I was pressing everything on that mouse and nothing was working! 🥲
@@Tytar btw not sure if anyone mentioned, but instead of making the ground high for guests to see the show there is a transparent tank wall for shows, or you can click and drag tank walls to lower them
they definitely have not mentioned that!! I cant believe I didnt think to do that!! Thanks so much for the comment!
2:40 or, you know, pause, lol
You can pause the game and build?! I wish I would've known that! I'm such a noobie at this game. lol
Sorry but have to say it:
There are several species of carnivorous marsupials. Some of them are even alive today, like the Tasmanian Devil
And there’s been some prehistoric ones like Thylacoleo (the Marsupial Lion) or Thylacosmilus
Thank you for the correction! I had someone else correct me on this too, so you're one of two that have let me know I was wrong, I appreciate it honestly because I thought I knew what I was talking about but I definitely didn't lol 😅
@@Tytar no problem 👍
Still playing it till this day cause I just learned a year ago how to mod the sheets out of it 😅
I hear mods make the game even better and a phenomenal experience to this day. :)
@@Tytar yea mods help out a lot to make that imaginary zoo come to life, but you can like only have between 400 to 500 mods depending on ya pc specs I think, cause the game does get slower due to all the mods
Will there ever be another zoo tycoon vid?
I have some livestreams of it and some planet zoo, but yes I think there will be uploads. At the moment, I don't know when. But I know people love it, so I am open to it.
4:39 no? it puts the gate on the last point of conection where the fence closes
new player problems I guess. 😆 It wasn't working for me for some reason
I have played Zoo Tycoon 2 and Zoo Tycoon I also play Roller Coaster Tycoon and now I play Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo so much fun
Planet Coaster huh? I've never even heard of that! But I've had lots of people requesting Planet Zoo here on this channel! I have a long list of uploads coming out...but keep your eye out. I might have some stuff on the horizon you mentioned in this comment! 😎
@@Tytar Sweet Planet Zoo has a tone of DLC'S like the North America Pack, the Twilight Pack so you can put Raccoon's, red fox's, Beaver's, Moose and even Cougar's in your Zoo now
I know this video is a bit old now so you probably won't see this, but if you do, try spinning the globe.
That's such a cool little easter egg! Thanks for sharing this! :)
How are you playing it? I can’t find it to download on my laptop?
Hi there! This is where you can get it! amzn.to/3gEumZS
@@Tytar awesome thank you
Man, I really want to download again Zoo Tycoon 2 (I still have the discs), but... well, my current laptop has no disc entry.
I was in your situation exactly...I picked up a USB DVD reader on Amazon and it's been a gamechanger for me. If you're into your old games, this thing comes in handy. Here's one like I use: amzn.to/3Yyg4L3
Heres me playing this on a gaming pc 😂
lol I can see why though. The game really is great 😄
@@Tytar exactlyy i got all addons in mine
Cool game, loved the first one. Need to grab the 2nd one.
Definitely! 2nd one was a lot of fun and I was bummed that I missed it
ZT2 improved over ZT1 in a lot of ways... and yet, I can't help but like the first game more.
Amazing video.
How do you guys play this?! I have the old disc but every time I try to install it there just comes an error code
Hmm. I didnt play using a disc. You can get the game here if you're looking to buy it. amzn.to/3gEumZS Otherwise, Id go to google and search "how to play zoo tycoon 2 on windows 10" if thats what youre using. Also look up how to run something in compatibility mode. That might help.
