Honestly I would even say that the older ones won out for the open world factor as well. Sure there is larger worlds but you even made the point of how bloated with pointless side content that wound up being. And the older ones also had that factor of including so many iconic and memorable locations and landmarks. It felt far more like an open world based on real world locations hundreds of years in the past, not just giant open worlds that mildly resembled those locales. I can't really bring myself to enjoy the new Assassins Creed games. They may have been more entertaining if they chose to title themselves something completely different rather than capitalizing on a franchise name they don't even resemble anymore

That's a weird take, I'd almost say it's wrong, open world in Origins and Odyssey is not bland very far from it.
The freedom to roam around Egypt and ancient Greece is something else entirely. as much as i hate ubisoft, they nailed it in world building. (didn't play Valhalla yet so I'll not comment on that).
This is where i say its almost wrong because Old titles like say Ezio's Trilogy are very old games by even today's standard and if they were made today with Origin's engine and expanded the map to match the likes of Odyssey, now that would be the ultimate AC title.
Man personally I'd do anything to roam around a fully expanded ottoman Turkey with a touch of Byzantine remnant as mature Ezio in the same engine as origins.

The whole motive of Assassin's Creed(the game) was to relive our ancestors' memory through Animus, find certain artifacts, and the endless war between Templars and assassins. Back then, Ubisoft took advantage of obscure historical events and characters/personnel while maintaining historical accuracy to write great stories..... But now, we have RPGs FFS, original idea of AC was to follow the life of some assassins through the information in our DNA, where your choices don't matter, you have to do what they did, the way they did, just to reach a certain point of their life where the information could be obtained, your choices never matter because you are living a life that has already been lived. That contradicts the whole concept of RPG....remember in AC 2, you cannot go to Roma if you don't have all 30 codex pages written by Altair. This was a challenge, an element of accuracy for Ezio's life because he entered the room with the necessary information hidden in those codexes, provides some crucial information about Altair, and helps the story to move forward. THAT WAS THE AC WE LOVED. THAT IS THE AC WE NEED.

I feel like Unity and Syndicate were very under-appreciated games, especially when people just moved on from Unity when a sequel to it could have had great potential... because what was it that came after the Revolution...? The Napoleonic Wars, and we see Napoleon with some glowing object when Arno finds that hidden vault in that one mission, and we never see what it actually is, so it was a waste of opportunity there.
And in my opinion, Syndicate absolutely nailed it with the twin dynamic of Jacob and Evie, as well as the historical figures of the time period, my favorite bring Charles Dickens, who in my opinion had some of the best side missions over the whole franchise
And since then, I've never been a fan of Origins, Odyssey, or Valhalla, as they've seemed to take the skill tree & roleplaying parts of the game more seriously, than the actual Assassin part its supposed to have.
Not to mention I feel like Origins wasted opportunity without going into the years following Julius Caesar's death, which would be Octavian at war with Mark Antony and Cleopatra VII before founding the Roman Empire, and how many good time periods there actually are when it comes to the Roman or even Byzantine Empire, that definitely was wasted opportunity...

In terms of the Combat, I really thought the older games would win it alone with Unity, it introduced far more weapons, and affected how Arno fought, and I even tried replaying several missions with different weapons to see how different they'd be for Arno, and in some ways, it was more fun.
And Unity was the first game that actually made it a bit more challenging in combat rather than just endless going behind an enemy and countering an attack to trigger a combo, that really kill all 10 or 20 enemies that were surrounding you in just a minute... I just wish Assassin's Creed would pick a far better timeline, than constantly choosing before the 11th century, there's been good ones that they've missed, and it'd be a far better time to choose one now, rather than wait until this series is too far gone.

The franchise that we knew and loved had died the moment origins released (dont get me wrong, bayek's and aya's story (exclusively), the characters, the soundtracks, the atmosphere and the beautiful world of ancient egypt to explore were amazing, but everything else was bad) and from now on the future 'ac' games will keep soiling the 'world' that the old ac's have built. I mean it's pretty clear to everyone that ubisoft has become a greedy company with a shity environment, lazy devs and useless directors. So the questions are,how we as a community (and mainly old fans) will make ubisoft hear our demands? For how long ubisoft intends to persists on this madness? For how long ubisoft is gonna keep ruining the ac lore? And how do we deal with the toxic members and the kids on this community that they insist on something that is wrong?(i mean, don't get me wrong, you can enjoy anything you want but you can't justify something that is terrible just because it makes you feel better.) Now then, for those who feel the same way as me i thought of a plan so that can make ubisoft at least notice us. For every new ac content ubisoft gives us,we just see a full gameplay on yt, analyzing everything and if the game deserves it or if we see some positive and significant chance then we can buy it, and not just buying it without a second thought the moment it hits the market. Thank you.
Also some people who would read this comment will find difficult to understand my argument or my attitude towards those current games. So here my complains: After the release of syndicate, for some god damn reason the popularity of this franchise started to decline (because when you give people something that is actually good they will just find ways to complain for nothing, and when the game becomes shity, then you won't see anyone of them complain, because they cant apriciate actual good things (until its too late)), and while i understand what ubisoft wanted to do,and also knowing the fact that they wanted to explore the isu more instead of the assassins vs templars ,the way they did it and keep doing it was wrong!I mean they represent the isu as gods, when they are clearly an advanced civilization that created humans to be their slaves while using artifacts of advanced technology that they made, to control them and make sure they stay obedient or they killed them. And also the fact that they GOT EXTINCT by solar flares! Think about it. GODS DIEING BY SOMETHING NATURAL (in a way). AND HOW TF ARE THEY ALIVE IN THEESE GAMES IF THEY GONE EXTINCT?! (except juno and minerva that are conscious/trapped in inside that devise desmond touched in the end of ac 3 and died. Plus since desmond has isu dna inside of him, both were able to communicate with him directly or through visions ,etc.)
I mean ubisoft literaly had told about their origins during the first games(ac1-ac3).So why do they fuck their own lore so badly?
And the same goes for the main protagonists and realism/historical accuracy as well! How we went from removing crossbow for historical accuracy to demigods, mythical monsters and fucking magic? People got to realise that ac is not a fantasy game! It's 98% accuracy and 2% fantasy! And also that ubisoft created a shity main character just for the sake of female representation, without putting time and effort in an actually good backstory, the mc's character and her decisions. Layla was a completely useless mc and throughout the three games she did nothing but bitching while shitting on everybody else while looking like a modern feminist saying i am a strong woman and i don't need anyones help. And not to mention the disrespect to william and desmond miles, while trying to manipulate the situation by saying that abstergo did nothing wrong and they were the ones that saved the world, and i am glad that rebecca called her out for her bullshit. She barely offers anything, and she has the audacity to even speak on the matter. You can't imagine how satisfying it was when she died and how she squirmed. And don't get me started on choosing male or female and choosing lines to say...
Anyway that was my complaints about the game's lore. Now as far as reference is concerned, the realism in those games, its just doesn't exist, and yes i am talking about the RPG elements. I don't think that i have to explain this because it is self-evident. If they made the gameplay similar to the ghost of tsushima (but with less RPG) then the games would have been perfect and accurate. Now the best move for ubisoft to redeem itself is to remake the last three games and make them just like the older ones (take unity and syndicate) or declare them as a stand alone titles and start making proper games again. A good start would be an ac game taking place in the greek revolution in 1821 against the ottomans.
Thank you for taking time to read my comment.

I just now tried my 1st AC game last month which was Origins & i loved it. From the previous I was in love with the environment b/c i really love looking up history on Egypt. Videos like these made me want to go back & try some of the old ones so i currenty am trying Unity. I just broke out & Parris is jist now open. So far I like Origins waaaaay more. I really feel like i have stuff to do with all the side missions that tie into the story, just as me returning to be a protector. I'm goin to give Unity a little bit more, & if it doesn't hook me, im goin back to Origins & doing everything from scratch b/c with it being my 1st AC game, theres alot of stuff i didn't know until I was close to the end of the story, but now that i know what skills to unlock & what certain things do, its goin to be more fun. Especially with me doing all the side quest this time. Im not a fan of the setting in Unity, & i think my patience isn't as good as it was b/c i ised to be a fan of the hitman series but I dont have the same amount of time to deal all the extra stuff u have to do. I have the last hitman but i didn't complete it, but i completed all the earlier ones. Im a great assassin in Origins. Its just how u go about it. I perfer that way of playing. It kinds reminds me of Watch Dogs 1 compared to Watch Dogs 2. I didn't like Watch Dogs 2 b/c u reall have to follow a set blueprint. With Watch Dogs 2 I get to set my own way. Most of the time i tried not to be seen & used the gadgets, but if i had to I could shoot it out, & i like that style of play where i have the option to do it a way that I wanted to do with no set structure. So i didnt really know why people say the stealth is gone when its not. Its just in Origins the game doesn't have to hold ur hand on doing it in a few of the set ways they gave u to pick from. Playing an old ac game was bugging me to see why everyone says they are so different but now I understand. Its like them making Hitman an Rpg type game where u have to do a bunch of stuff to level up & u no longer have to sneak & assassinate & can just run in a building & shoot it up like gta or something.

I think them going the RPG route and stopping with the yearly releases was a absolute genius idea from Ubisoft……however, i also feel like they should just let the series die already and start making a open world For Honor game instead of another Assassins Creed game.

As someone who's invested into Stealth in Odyssey, I can confirm that it takes patience, but it's well worth it. I've created a perfect stealth build using the Pilgrim's Armor, which provides free invisibility until you do something high-profile or touch an enemy, and the Korfu Update adds a dagger which, at the cost of limiting your health to 25%, lets you one-shot assassinate any enemy that's equal or below your level. Add in the Kronos Abilities and some engravings, and bammo, you get something that's viable in Conquest Battles and even Boss Battles provided you're nimble enough. It provides one hell of a challenge!

I honestly could not agree more, as much as I love the new games there is just something not special about them anymore they focused so much on the fantasy side of assassins creed they completely forgot about the main part of the game being an assassin. In the old games like assassins creed 2 it was all about jumping on different buildings and hiding in plain sight. It was a simple concept that pushed the franchise in the right direction. You don't need to fight medusa to make a good game you just need a loved character like Ezio Auditore. Which was the key success of the franchise. Look I hope with the new assassins creed coming out it will go back to its roots create and a game we all will remember and loved like the Ezio trilogy.

Either I lost interest or just focused on other things in life. While I would like to go back to it, I am afraid I'll lose the use of the DLC I got from the ultimate pack (like the wolf skin for the mount) as well as the dragon skin I bought for the bird companion. I have also thought about going to play Unity, as I have wanted to play the game set in one of the cities I dream of and wish to visit someday. Maybe I just have a preference to the "classic" versions of the series and will go back and play Unity.

Honestly the old ones have ALOT more love and care put into them and the new ones are so lazy they couldn't take 10 minutes to add a skeleton to the main characters model so they could have cloth physics, I studied game design for 6 years and have been working on games since so when I see laziness in games I tend to call it out and the simplest fix for them (the cloth physics) they can't even be bothered doing.

What I really enjoyed about assassins creed one was the different battle mechanics and the connection to the animus. How you knew you were in the animus because of the glitches. The interesting extra mini features like pressing any button after a glitch to get a new camera angle. How if you did something wrong like punch a bystander, there was a glitch because there was technically an error with the memory and the animus as Altair didn’t actually do that action. Although the graphics are better, there is so much extra stuff that everything just looks too unclear and weird. On top of all that. The music was phenomenal. Adding the camera angles with the music. The game was an actual experience. With small details in the original that the new series have forgotten about. The new series just seem lazy. And redundant and boring. The story with the animus and the on going adventure after escaping abstergo. Or the death of Desmond and what really happens after is just kinda. Half assed. Just. Lost and. It’s a shame the developers put no passion.
Also the better features of assassins creed 2 was the additional of accessible historical information in a interesting manner delivered by Shawn that just added an ummmph that just made me a nerd for history.
