I watched a video about "heat islands." It reminded me of an experience I had last summer.
One night, I came home late from work. I tried to switch on my air conditioning, but it didn't work.
I called my landlord, but he said they couldn't come and fix it until the next day.
I opened all the windows and the front door of my apartment. But I live in the city, and there are no trees near my apartment, so there was no breeze.
Also, all the people in the surrounding apartments were using their air conditioners, so the air was boiling hot.
I couldn't sleep at all. Ultimately, I spent most of the night lying beside the open fridge with an ice pack on my head!
I got my air conditioner fixed the next day, but the experience really made me think.
When I was a child, I lived in a house surrounded by trees. It was hot in the summer, but it wasn't unbearable.
I think we need to plant more trees and make more green spaces in cities.
