      To be honest, didn't even bother with the standard 4K non-D-Log footage from the Air 2S after I saw it's only 8-bit vs. 10-bit on the other modes. Nino

    your conclusion is very well summarised. Air2s and M2p are a different drones for different purposes. That's why DJI was marketing it for different users. Choosing between them is a bit challenging at times .

    Fair review, I felt you were too dazzled by the Air 2s. I often find people are so in favour of any new 'shiny toy'. The DJI MP2 was the best foldable drone on the market and even though its nearly 3 years old it did not compromise on technology of that time. The Mavic Air 2s has a few new and improved features but as a complete package is not better than the MP2. It is definitely not an upgrade more of a sideways move or a first drone. Some people will buy the latest gadget just for one upgraded fearure but complain they lost another. All technology is based on your skill set and knowledge of use not just what is the latest.

    I couldn’t care less about 5.4K. What I want is better high ISO performance and not more pixels I don’t need. And I know that comes down to taste but 28mm is a much more use full focal length for narrative film work.

    • @CineD
      @CineD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends what you want. I found 28mm to be quite restrictive often when I am not allowed to fly high just to get a full shot of whatever I am filming. 22mm FOV means you don't have to fly as far or high to fit it in a shot or get a sense of movement. Nothing to do with cinematic or not, both focal lengths are used in feature filmmaking. Nino

    • @VariTimo
      @VariTimo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CineD Agreed. I’m a short filmmaker. I’m lucky enough that we have inexpensive tools like the GH5s, the Veydra Mini Primes, Sirui anamorphics, and the Ronin S that are incredibly good at allowing me to speak the aesthetic language of narrativ movies. I’m only gonna use a drone for establishing shots or for things I can’t without one. And I want to mimic to look of the helicopter shots I’m used to from the movies. A 28mm is much more within that world than a 22mm. That being said: with the ten or so shorts I’ve shot in the last couple of years, I didn’t have one that needed a drone shot.

    • @CineD
      @CineD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there is one downside of drones is if you look at it like that, none of them can replace a helicopter with a CineFlex yet simply because of the fact that the focal lengths are far from what's needed for that (for now)... and in that regard, 22 vs 28mm isn't that big a difference, you need more like 2000 mm and more. Nino

    • @VariTimo
      @VariTimo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CineD Agreed again. But I’d probably use focal lengths from the 28mm to 75mm range on a helicopter with a CineFlex rig anyway. And the crop 4K mode of the Mavic Pro gives me that range.

    Good video, im just about to go and drop the hard earned on the pro but have pressed pause with the new air 2 s dropping, you didn't mention of any of the really important stuff like batteries, does it work with the smart controller, do you still need the fly more kit & so on.

    • @CineD
      @CineD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The batteries are identical with the Air 2, not with the 2 Pro. It works with the Smart Controller but I wouldn't recommend it as the reception with the new included Remote Controller will be better due to O3 transmission. Hope the Smart Controller will be updated soon though. Yes, the Fly More Kit is always a good idea as you simply need 3 batteries and it also includes ND filters. Nino

  • @daniel-godin
    @daniel-godin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a quick note, a larger sensor does not produce more or less depth of field. That is done either through distance to subject (you mentioned being close will produce shallower DoF, that’s correct), focal length or aperture. What a larger sensor does is allow you to use a longer focal length to produce the same field of view, thus the shallower DoF is because of the focal length and not the sensor size.

    • @CineD
      @CineD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was shocked how bad it looked, but yes you can get away with it for short snippets. DJI has to work on their downsampling for lower resolutions, it's always been bad, especially for high speed lower res. Nino

    DJI needs to STOP using False advertising ..FACT: the drone does NOT have a 1 inch sensor ..it has a (1 inch "type") ..there is a HUGE difference. ....in the World of cameras ALL manufacturers use the (1 inch "type") label to cover their ass legally . ..It's an old label system from back in the 50ies. ..but a "true measure" 1 inch sensor is about 3X larger area than a (1 inch "type") ..its like if the grocery store sold you a package of 3 apples but it has only 1 apple inside ..it's a word play SCAM ..DJI should stop cheating thier customers and label it correctly as (1 inch "type") .

    honest question ... not bad ... 7:10 how are you allowed to fly so far, without having a direct line of sight to the drone .... i guess it's not as legal... Do you not care or do you just give a damn?

    • @CineD
      @CineD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course I always fly legally and always with having a direct line of sight to the drone, also in the shot you mention (I am standing by that house you see in that shot). Only briefly I lost line of sight behind some trees when I was flying at only 20 meters height and I was amazed how the new OcuSync 3.0 kept consistent transmission where older drones crapped out when some trees were in between.
