When I started prepping years ago, I did start by purchasing a few cases of freeze dried emergency food and within a couple of months I realized that for myself, this was not the way to go. Our cash for prepping went much further purchasing canned foods/rice/pasta/beans/ etc... and the extra bonus was knowing that you we were going to enjoy the food. Another consideration was that if I required food that had a shelf life of 25-30 years - I would be a sorry individual if I was still relying on emergency food that long after the calamity😉
At this time, a six pack of freeze dried, Lasagna With Meat Sauce #10 Cans is $355.90 - if you were to purchase a mix of 50, 340 gram cans of cooked ham/corned beef/spam for $4.00 each, 40LBS bag of rice at $50.0 along with 100 cans of veggies/soup, you would have more meals compared to the 6 pack for the same cost.
At the end of the day, we must do what's right for our family - what works for myself may not work for you.

      I think exactly like you!
That's why I don't purchase freeze dried foods, I rather purchase can goods foods, which is way cheaper and tastier.
Freeze dried is simply too expensive for me and tbh, I doubt we'll end up needing to use the freeze dried food. I really doubt it.

Don't overlook the huge benefit of ease of preparation...add hot water to FD food and done. Saves time, fuel, and less chance of hungry neighbors crashing the party. Having some on hand is not a bad idea.

Nutrient survival really needs to work on getting their products stocked up. They focus an awful lot on getting new people to sponsor their products but they need to make sure they can process orders and they need more meals not just drinks and butter etc. They only have a few entrees which is what most people are looking for. I was waiting for an order that they got back ordered on for a long time before I finally canceled it and when I called the company they never returned my call. Also they need the single packs of the meals because not everyone wants to buy a big can especially if they haven't tried the product yet. Their prices are pretty steep. It ends up being $50 for only 10 meals of mac and cheese. I want to try the mac and cheese but I don't want to spend $50 to find out I don't like it. That's what's so good about the small packets which they have been on back order for for a while. Again please tell them that they need to get their entrees in the single packs as a sampler for people to try.

@@Utriedit215 I've purchased some LTS foods (30+ years ago) and they were not palatable at all. During my 8 years as an Army Combat Medic, MRE'S were bartered between us soldiers because some people could/would eat anything and some not. Of course I want to invest in what can and will be eaten but also have items for barter, always. SHRINKAGE!!! I love Mtn Hse. They used to be 10 or 9 servings per #10 can. I see it's down to 7. It would appear that the Nutrient Survival food just includes in the can a multivitamin powder or sprayed on the food. I actually prefer to just take my multivitamin. If it's not naturally in the food can it is just a multivitamin added. They just call it a "Blend", it's not that the food is full of these nutrients......just add a vitamin/mineral additive. Price is better on the NS can. Thank You!

If they are going to be promoting a more healthier freeze dried meal ask them to take genetically modified canola oil out of their products. There is no organic canola oil. That's completely unnecessary. There is a huge controversy over the natural flavoring as not being animal or vegetable I'll just leave that there. When giving ingredients people really should be transparent about what they are offering people to consume because what if that natural flavoring was something that was an allergen for somebody?

We did a home test of a rice and chicken mix by MH. The result was a mushy mix because of the type of rice they used-short grain. And seeing a half full can….. that was enough to make my heart sink. My family members ate 2 servings each- their serving sizes are not “ man sized”. For anyone- double the serving size! After a long cold day a little cup of mushy rice was not enough to be a full meal.
A person should be aware that in a SHtF situation you are not considering the base vitamin level of a dish of rice. As you sit in the cold/ dark you want a tasty filling meal. This may or may not be enough for most folks. Our little experiment changed my perspective. I would use these products with as many add in products as possible- canned veggies, extra rice etc.
AP: thank you for opening the cans! You are one in a million. Most TH-camrs show the outside of the can only. You have gained my respect! Thank you!

You make a valid point, however, what AP didn't factor in was calorie density/storage space requirements. Will your seven cans of soup weigh the same or take up as much/more space as the Mtn. House, or ten cans when compared to the Nutrient Survival? On a side note, I've eaten canned food that was over 30 years old many times and never gotten sick - just use common sense.

I leave my house I'm loading up a trailer.. if I was on the run in the woods I can see where that would come in handy.. that's why the military uses that stuff.. most people are not going to leave their house.. and if you are make sure you know you're edible plants.. all your nutrition..

The entrees I’ve tried from Nutrient Survival were the homestyle egg scramble and the lasagna. The scramble was ok I’d eat it in a pinch my family I’d have to push. The lasagna was awful, 3 bites and i tossed in the trash. Mountain house is way better and packaged to make a meal and not a 280 calorie snack. I’m not sure who’s been reviewing the taste of these entrees but Nutrient gets an F from me.

You say that “Nutrient survival” stuff has not meat? That honestly makes me nervous if that was the only thing you owned for “long term survival” I would definitely buy that brand but Meat in the diet for me is a must and is more than just a preference.
I’ve gone a long periods of time very little to no Meat 🥩 protein and I can tell you that my overall mental health, and energy are night and day better with a healthy amount of meat in my diet.
