      It has to do with the size of the cuts of the sheets in the manufacturing process. They make em out of the excess from the bigger screens

    • @sterlingbxyd
      @sterlingbxyd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      because lg makes pretty much all oled displays and the smallest they manufacture is 42". for a company like asus to make their own 32" panel it'd be so expensive people wouldn't buy it.

    My favorite part of this tv (42'' is basically tv size) is the custom heatsink. I don't care too much about the size of the back of the monitor as long as it doesn't dim the brightness constantly.

    On your future review, will you give us a comprehensive analysis on the anti-glare matte screen? Is the matte coating embedded within the panel or is it another layer? Do you notice any sacrifices on color and sharpness because of the matte finish? Do you find its brightness setting to be adequate for an OLED monitor during productivity use? How aggressive is ABL in your testing? Please let us know. Thank you!

      I like glossy screens more

    • @ryndrssn
      @ryndrssn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glossy finish looks better, matte kinda white wash the display but they said it helps reduced reflection. In my experience, glossy finish reflect brighter but smaller in size (I really don't know how to explain it, hopefully you get the idea), matte is diffused so dimmer reflection but it's making the glare diffused on the entire screen thus making the display less enjoyable to view. I prefer a dimmer or close to pitch black environmental lighting anyway so glossy is best for consuming content.

  • @vintatsh
    @vintatsh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm very excited about this monitor as it's the first one to check all the boxes for me. 4K, OLED, VRR, G-Sync, true HDR, >120Hz, fast response times.
    And I do prefer a matte coating for monitor-use. Yes colors and contrast might not pop as much if it's hit with light but it's a comfort feature, which for a monitor I use long periods at a time, I abosultely need to have. It gets you a uniform image over the entire screen without any distractions at all times.
    And there are many other benefits over somethng like an LG C2 (heatsink minimizing risk of burn-in, option to turn off automatic brightness limiter, sharp sub-pixel layout for text, Displayport, auto switching into stand-by when you turn off your PC...).
    Not quite sure about the size yet but coming from a 32" which I've been using very comfortably I feel like it could work for me.

    • @chiefjudge8456
      @chiefjudge8456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      OLED is a minus. OLED gets too dim for a good HDR experience (mini-LED is much superior).

    • @vintatsh
      @vintatsh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chiefjudge8456 Mini-LED does get much brighter, but you can‘t beat the precision and contrast of OLED.
      And I would argue if you watch any HDR content, or play an HDR game it‘s in a darker environment anyways where 800-1000 nits peak is enough. Full-field >1000 nits would blind you anyways, especially in front of a monitor.

    • @chiefjudge8456
      @chiefjudge8456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vintatsh That's not how it works. 800 nits is never enough because HDR is supposed to have impressive highlights, it needs a wow factor to have any amount of realism at all. Since highlights are small areas of the screen, and sometimes time-limited, they need to be really bright to stand out. You're never going to full-screen at 1600 nits unless there's like a flash bang or you're staring at the sun, in which case you would avert your eyes which is the realism factor. It makes it like real-life (FYI the nits of real sunlight on a normal day outside is 4000-5000). On OLED you can stare at the sun or let people flash bang your face in "HDR" because the screens are just too dim.

    • @ThePouyf
      @ThePouyf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I 100% agree with your thoughts.
      For a pro and and gaming use, it feets all my needs.

    • @vintatsh
      @vintatsh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chiefjudge8456 same thing can happen with mini-led. Imagine a night sky with stars, mini-led would either blow out the image around a single star so you get blooming or it would dim the area around it so you lose the highlights. More precision of OLEDs can create much brighter highlights.
      Neither technology is perfect, micro-led will be superior in every way and won't burn-in but it will be a long time-to-market.
      I guess for now it's just personal preference, I get where you're coming though.

I currently do light gaming, but I'm also interested in video editing , photography (so color accuracy is important) and I work from home. When its time to kick back with a movie I'd just load NetFlix on my PC and kickback on the couch behind me so this would be my do everything monitor. So I"d love to see your comparisons.

I can leave the same program on all day and not even think twice about screen burn..... plus the colours and brightness is way better.... there are some scenes on the oled where it's soooo black that you can't see whats in the back ground (that could be good or bad for you)....

      6:05. Matte screens still force you to control your environment. If they push over 600 nits, you don't really need matte screens in a controlled environment. I feel like monitor companies have produced 300 nit monitors for so long, they think matte screens are 100% required. That's what happens when all you focus on is one upping the Hz each year instead of picture quality.

For XSX and PS5 this is good, but realistically most console gamers use OLED TVs anyways from 50" upwards. OLED GAMING baby! The only competition to this is currently LG C2 42 inch so please do a comparison in the detailed video. Also a couple points for you to review:
    1. How is text clarity compared to the LG C2 WRGB subpixel layout? Does it have 4:4:4 chroma subsampling like the LG C2 in PC HDMI mode? If it's going to be used as desktop monitor this is important IMO.
    2. Does it support audio passthrough for signals like Dolby Atmos like the LG C2?
    3. How is the actual factory calibration? It's supposed to be calibrated to DeltaE < 2 but is it actually?
    4. Does it support Dolby Vision like the LG C2? 5. What kind of burn-in prevention features does it have? ABL, ABSL (TPC), GPC, etc. Can these settings be tweaked like the LG using the service menu? It would be a bitch if you can't even turn off ABSL with windows dimming all over the place.
    Personally the matt coating is dumb. Why would you buy an OLED which the whole big feature is about infinite contrast with deepest blacks, only to ruin that with matt anti-glare coating making blacks hazy dark gray. They should remove the anti-glare and people who buy this should be using it in a dim or dark room to enjoy OLED technology to its fullest.

    Man the screen looks so clean (no bezels) and the remote is nice compared to the LG Ultragear version of this panel. I think the pixel density of the 42" is worth sticking with instead of a 48".
    I've seen 42" LG C2 in person and the brightness is soo poor compared to the C2 55" as it doesn't have an EVO heatsink. I wonder if this panel is 800 nits full field or just peak brightness.
    Question: how is TEXT on this OLED compared to the C2? I read that this model fixed colour fringing with text by a tighter pixel layout or something. Looks interesting!

    One thing I'd like to see in the review is a comparison with a matte screen, ideally a side-by-side in different conditions to illustrate the pros and cons and help us decide what coating we prefer.
