Asus has updated the warranty for their OLED gaming monitors to now include 2 years of panel burn-in coverage. This applies to the PG34WCDM, PG49WCD, PG27AQDM, PG48UQ, PG42UQ and upcoming models like the PG32UCDM.
You'll see the change in the specification tab on Asus product page, so you can refer to that for warranty claims in the future

Does anyone know how to get the audio through from the OLED panel and the audio channel output from my computer? I never had an issue outputting from an old 4k tv and getting the built in speakers too, but if I try on this panel it's just a pass through and does not give me both outputs, which is a shame, cause the built in speakers are pretty good.

@monitorsunboxed How shaky is the monitor when you touch it or type on the keyboard or move the mouse. I just got the DELL UltraSharp 43" - U4323QE and I love the monitor, using it for mostly productivity apps. The panel looks perfect and has a matte screen which I like, but the monitor stand is really shaky and if I move the mouse fast or type too hard the monitor wobbles and it really bothers me. Just wonder if the PG42UQ has similar issues or if the stability of the monitor stand is better than the DELL 43". Thanks.

Tim, your monitor reviews are quickly becoming the English-speaking world's go-to for reliable information. That is no small feat. You should be proud of the immense respect you're cultivating in this space. I will not purchase a monitor without checking here first and that is a 100% guarantee. Well done! Bravo sir, bravo.

Actually this review was completely worthless because it tells you NOTHING about the actual problems with this display. It's just another advertisement.
He doesn't mention the random black frames/flickering this monitor does FOR EVERYONE with two eyebrows who can actually SEE PHOTONS in reality.
WORTHLESS. Imagine praising a junk review of a monitor that doesn't even mention that it RANDOMLY DISPLAYS BLACK FRAMES.

Pull back the praise by about half and, realistically, yes, HU does a great job. Did he mention the heat sink in this monitor that aims to reduce burn-in risk? Did he address RTINGS report of unacceptable input lag at 60fps? These monitor reviews sometimes run on an auto pilot of charts, graphs, and tech speak that we hear in every HU review. I’ve watched nearly every one and feel they could improve the context at times, especially if their review isn’t first to market. The RTINGS finding about input lag would be a deal breaker for many, especially as OLED doesn’t inherently have this issue. RTINGS believes it’s a processing issue it’s this monitor. Getting HU’s take on this claim is why I watched this video.

I never have enough of these videos, because let's face it, primary interface is the monitor. It's the one most important piece of the whole setup. Pick whatever GPU you want, if screen is bad it's wasted money. Pick a great screen, and on your next update you'll benefit more from it.

Same! But I upgraded / maybe not an upgrade from the PG35VQ. 200 HZ, HDR10, GSYNC ULTIMATE, 3440X1440 ULTRA WIDE, but I am still loving this monitor! Higher resolution, but less HZ, but an OLED. I honestly can say the OLED has better brightness and blacks but NOT by much! This monitor is great with my RTX4090! I don't plan on getting rid of the PG35VQ though as both have a time and place! Both amazing monitors

I bought one of these day one. It is a beautiful monitor. I use it in my office. I also have a living room gaming PC that is hooked to my 65" LG C1 panel. Both are stunning. I really love the PG42UQ's array of inputs and also the heatsink on the back. I waited very impatiently for this monitor hoping it would live up to the hype. It delivers in spades. The only thing I don't like is the pixel-cleaning pop-up you get after 8 hours of use. I'm hoping someone figures out a way to disable that. Otherwise, this is easily the best monitor I've ever owned.

  • @Gooch8181

I've been waiting months for this screen, finally got one.
I've been using a 40" Samsung 4K TV for years, I like the form factor. TV was only 60hz, so having 120hz now is great.
For me, when I turned down brightness the text got significantly better for regular PC use. Basically anywhere over 60 in the brightness setting is very usable for me, over 90 is too bright.
For working at home, I can fit everything I want on the screen at once, and for gaming it's excellent for strategy/4X games that I play. Shooters are good, buy I know some people like smaller screens. RPGs and MMOs are immersive at this size.
And it you want widescreen this panel can force it, with unlit black bars since it's OLED.

Having owned this monitor for about a month now and using it 8 hours a day for my day job (software dev), I have to say it's been amazing, but Tim is right in that this is going to be very dependant on your preferences and what you value.
Personally, the built in 4 port USB3 hub, uniform brightness mode, proper monitor sleep support, threaded camera mount and other features are things I value quite highly.
However, again, Tim is spot on in that in many ways, this doesn't really fundamentally offer a vastly different experience to a C2, which can be had for a lot less money and is much easier to find.
The firmware for this screen have also been pretty ropey so far, no single version has yet to nail everything at the same time but hopefully this will get ironed out pretty soon.
I'm only using it at 60hz at the moment - waiting to upgrade my old 1080Ti, so I've only briefly tried HDR and 138hz, but I'm really looking forward to giving them a proper go...

Same I have had mine for 3/4 weeks and use it 8 hours a day doing Sysadm then gaming afterward. It's incredible and all the people that think the C2 is close don't use their C2 as a monitor.
It's £1400 but I spend 5000 hours a year in front of it so its nothing in the long term
Edit: I pay £53 a month for this monitor 0% interest free. It costs less than my Pixel 6 (Overclockers UK)

  • @deepSilent0
    @deepSilent0 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

People underestimate how reflective the C2 is. If you have any kind of light in front of the tv, you will see reflections, almost like a mirror. Even an RGB keyboard placed in front of the screen will cause reflections.
Also the TV will shine light onto the top of the desk which will reflect back into the screen (depending on the color of your desk), so no matter what you will still get distracting reflections on the C2..
The C2 is really not good as a monitor because of that.

Samsung uses VA panels with really bad viewing angles. The curve is absolutely necessary with those panels to preserve image quality on the edges of the screen. There are no 32" 4K OLED panels from LG because the W-OLED tech they use doesn't scale well to such a high DPI.
Manufacturers know very well what the most popular monitor sizes are, and they would absolutely produce OLED panels at those sizes and resolutions if it was feasible and made financial sense to do so.

    • @MaaZeus
      @MaaZeus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@konga382 This. Curve is actually boon with VA panels as it almost eliminates the horizontal gamma shift. That and as you usually use monitors up close so the curve does not really cause picture geometry issues. Hell it may even reduce them in bigger screens when viewed up close.
And we will get smaller OLEDs when LG manages to make them cost effective to produce. LG's WRGB OLED panel is the only sensible option to use as a monitor as it is more resistant to burn in compared to the normal pentile or RGB oleds which you see in smaller screens and phones.

I have had it on 24/7 for the past year though, and have the OLED picture movement option turned on.

I have had one since there were released. I really enjoy this monitor. I am looking forward to the next firmware update though to solve some issues. I chose this over the C2 for the matte finish - I use it as my daily driver/work monitor and I am in a well lit room so the shinier screen of the C2 would not be great for me personally. It still look fabulous. I also chose this for the Display Port input and the increased refresh rate. But Tim nails the differences pretty clearly here - and choose what fits you the best! Why people continue to praise the LG C2 as a PC monitor is beyond me. I returned the LG C2 a week later, it is the WORST possible choice to use as a PC monitor. You got it totally backwards. The PC can't power manage the TV like it can a monitor, you have to manually turn it on off which alone is a deal breaker. You have to change all your settings, no fast boot, auto dimming is annoying as F and not seamless at all. Post processing due to it's TV features is not welcome in a monitor. Wonky ass menu is so daam cluttered and slow as F.

Having switched from an IPS to the C2, I have to say that text clarity definitely is an issue especially early on. You absolutely need to find the right scaling setting, as 100% @ 4K is also usually much to small. That being said, once you iron out the worst kinks, discord is a big offender here, you get used to it pretty quickly. Some scaling issues remain, especially in older windows applications like installers, but that seems to be a big problem with 4K in general. ABL on bright websites is very noticeable still, but you can either disable HDR for normal windows use, or use dark mode (dark reader addon for browsers

Great review. To me, the point of contention here is price. In most European countries, this monitor is around or above 1500€, while finind the LG C2 around 1000€ is not impossible. So, the price difference is so high, that you can basically buy a new GPU to get hdmi 2.1 with the price difference, and you should have a pretty modern gpu anyway to drive a 4k 120(+) hz display. If the price was closer, like 100€ of difference, it would be pretty compelling, especially if you have annoying reflections to deal with: angle adjustment stand and matte finish will make wonders in that case. But with such a big difference, it's a no go for me.

It seems that blue phosphorescent OLEDs are the key to increasing brightness and stability to negate the one primary disadvantage of current OLED technology. Also, if RGB OLEDs can eventually be scaled to larger sizes, then that subpixel layout structure would be ideal for maintaining text clarity.

ASUS has the ASUS ProArt PA32DC which has an RGB subpixel layout, however it costs $3500 and only does 60hz, but it is a great monitor for art based creators as it's 32'' size gives it a very good pixel density and being RGB, has the best color accuracy of any OLED on the market.

for ABL on LG C2, I found quite a nifty way to deal with it, without disabling anything on the service menu. So, first up, just crank the pixel brightness to 100, then go to windows HD color setting, enable HDR. After that, scroll down on that HD color setting, and you'll see HDR/SDR brightness balance. I just turn it down to 0.
This way, ABL don't really kick in when watching youtube or something because the TV thinks that you're displaying dim content while in reality you're limiting brightness through windows. You'll get much dimmer picture in SDR though, but things will kick in again once you display HDR content.

Good review! But there are some things you failed to mention/investigate.
A significant advantage of the PG42UQ vs. the C2 is the inclusion of PC power management. On the C2 you have to turn it on with the remote, and either turn it off manually or let it idle to sleep. Presumably the PG42UQ supports PC monitor standby. But does it support this on both the DisplayPort and the HDMI connections, or just the DisplayPort? Did you test that this is working? Because it's a major reason to get the Asus over the LG. Someone has written an app to control the LG power over the network (LGTVCompanion) but it's a hack (no shade meant to the author).
Does the 138 Hz overclock require color decimation like it does on many monitors?
What is the minimum frame rate for VESA Adaptive Sync - 40 or 48 Hz? You should note that to maintain that minimum frame rate at 4K on modern AAA games for 1% lows requires a powerful GPU, and for games like Control and Cyberpunk with RTX enabled basically requires a 4090.
Do the USB ports include KVM functionality?
The PG42UQ stand appears to be significantly higher than the C2 which may place the monitor too high for a proper eye line, and putting a monitor this size/weight on an arm would be problematic.

Given Microsoft's widespread HDR issue that prevents display-side post processing under 95% of conditions, this is the only chart I care about anymore... A Windows 10/11 max HDR brightness of 121 nits, sick. Even the Neo G7 can't manage to deliver an accurate 400 nit experience.
I know I'm being a bit ridiculous, but currently our choices are:
    1. Play our games at the minmax brightness of our displays to retain 100% of bright detail 100% of the time. (I'm calling it "minmax" because it is the minimum value a display can achieve while pushing max brightness [Neo G7 has a minmax of 345 nits and a maxmax of 1278])
    2. Play our games at the "maxmax" (I'm rolling with it now) and deal with blown out highlights any time effective window size reaches ~30%, while retaining a punchy image.
    3. Compromise on both ends to decrease the frequency of clipping at the cost of some, but not all, punchiness/color/contrast. Most games could probably handle a brightness value equal to your display's 70%-80% window sustained results but none of us know our exact numbers for that. Other games may require as low as 50%, like Destiny...
Or you know... Microsoft could just fix whatever it is they broke, and allow display manufacturers' tonemapping to just make everyone's lives easier.

Great video! I couldn’t find one in stock so ended up with a c2 and absolutely love it. Got it for 999 on sale so it was a good bit cheaper. Like having 4 2.1 hdmi even tho I probably won’t ever use them all, sux no dp but all modern gpu seem to have hdmi 2.1 on them. Came from ASUS first 34” ultra wide with horrible light bleed and no hdr so it was a huge upgrade. I don’t miss ultra wide at all, lotta older games and some competitive don’t support it properly anyways. Love the glossy over the matte but I game in a basement with lights off usually. I do notice some of my razer chroma crap reflecting off it a bit in really black scenes. I have a really deep corner desk and this size is huge, I can’t believe I was considering the Aorus 48” oled when it was on sale for 600-700 a few weeks ago. I agree I wouldn’t go above 42”.

HDMI 2.1 has 50% more bandwidth than DP 1.4 so it's going to be a better option for any GPU made over 2 years anyway.

I would really like to see a review of best large monitors for high quality DPI/Text use, productivity. Both if you are a gamer and want a best of both worlds, and productivity alone.

2.5 years later and still no burn in on my CX with ~8h of daily normal desktop use (browsing, gaming and light office use, no work). I can highly recommend it. I would even buy one if burn in was guaranteed after 2 years and I had to get a new one because it's just that good and worth every penny.
