I love it. You could do an awesome series like "Weekly 15 minute forge" and this would be a perfect subject for it. I bet you have tons of fun little projects we could try like this one.
Alec, I don't know if you have already done a video for this or not. But would you be willing to do a video going over the different grades of steel? Right now some of the steel that I use is "mystery steel", mower blades, coil springs ect . I'd like to know the different grades of steel a litte better. or if you have already done a video on this can you share the link?
Really do enjoy this format. There is more instruction in this video and I appreciate the transference of Brian's wisdom through you. You are spreading the gospel!
watching your videos is always interesting. Finding a good black smithing channel where the person talks to you is rare, thank you for that. Please continue to make videos.
Loving your videos so far Alec Steele, Laser operator from Australia here.. worked with metals in most forms (MS/K1042/G050-450 you name it! List is far too long!) for most of my existence. You really are giving me ideas and the bug to go a bit further with everything metal! Loving it, keep it up mate! You are one seriously skilled craftsman! Kudos from Oz!
I like to learn along with you! I enjoyed you talking about each tool you used, calling it out by name, and giving credit where it was due. I also liked being right there with you for the "whole" project in one video! Keep up the great work!
Alec, I love how you've chosen your path followed it in full and archived bags already. I hope your really proud of yourself, thank you for the videos. And don't stop mate. You've quickly become my favourite vlogger and blacksmith.
its always nice to see others flipping tools in their hands. is it not just so satisfying? loving your channel, just found it last week. I work in manufacturing, but this is the real deal!
I love this format! As much as I start drooling at your damascus videos (that sykes fairbain...), videos like this with "simple" projects that show us techniques and build skills are priceless. I know you do seminars and classes, but short how to videos are great for those of us just starting out who may not be able to travel or just may not be ready for those classes yet.
Exactly as I've seen Brian do this. Nice to see you are keeping what you were taught alive and passing on the tradition. Very nice and efficient way to move the metal. I'd call your fuller/swage tool, a veining tool or stemming tool!
I liked the format - especially the screen-in-screen where I can see what you are doing as well as what is happening at the anvil (i.e. what you are seeing). I also like having the object in focus when you zoom in... lol.
As an instructor at the first ever hands on training course at Autodesk University told me last year, "That's not a mistake, That's Custom". It seemed like you managed to blend it in anyway.
3:45 that's the alec i like. don't hide your weirdness behind friendliness! i love that combination of smart, hard working, and quirky you have going. covering it up is a shame really :) much love!
Once again, true art! Doing small things like that leaf, is what might make me build a small forge, just to make some of those as gifts. Thanks for the inspiration!
alec as one of your new subscribers i would like to say your energy and ability are a fantastic addition to youtube and i have spent a full 2 days looking at your amazing work and yesterdays insight in patience was right on the mark thank you
I love your personality and wish I had 1/3 of it. When I finally get a forge and anvil, I think this will be a good first project to start with. This video vs. the ones you're producing now with the constant music are quite refreshing. I'm sure I'm the minority here, but it's my personal preference.
WiredMonk I think a beginning project would be a taper and a scroll, idk the first time i tried a leaf I got practically no where and I had been forging for months!
Yes do make more of these helpful videos I'm a beginner blacksmith and love watching you guys work but when you slow it down and explain what is happening I learn so much ... Awesome leaf keychain I'm definitely gonna try it thanks
I found your channel a week or so ago. Been watching tons of your videos. This is one of my favorites so far....just because of the instructional aspect of it. I would really love to see more like this.
You always say you've learned so much from Brian, and now thanks to his expertise fuelling your passion, I can tell people how much I've learned from you, so thanks for making these videos, I learn something in every one of them
I really enjoy watching your videos of projects that beginner is able to tackle to improve their skills.....perhaps this summer I'll try my hand at forging some items. Though I may only be able to use a railroad track.....or I may weld together a mild steel striking anvil like you have.
The hot steel is INDEED quite good! I loved your last video on patience and put a lot of things in perspective and applies to many facets of life and came at an important time for me. I've been putting off a lot of things and waiting around isn't going to get me anywhere.
That was simple and well executed. I enjoy seeing the videos where you make things using minimal tools, because it shows me it is something I could do and within my reach
Hey Alec! I loved this video and how personal you get with the audience I think is very admirable. I love the personality and uniqueness of your channel!
Great project, I did watch Brian's video since being diagnosed with blacksmith fever. I not sure which leaf I like more. Needless to say they both look wonderful.
Your videos have me inspired. Will be visiting a friend with a forge this weekend to try my hand for the first time at some forging. That is a very Epic leaf, sir. Well done.
love it! i like seeing the process of what you're doing with great instructions. please make more like this! you could do weekly installments of Tutorials with Alec Steele!
You know, it's gotten to where I just hit the like button as soon as your video loads. I can watch it without thinking about anything else, and I just know I will like it, so why not...
Hello Alec, Thanks for your nice video's. Your enthousiasm is inspiring, just as your workshop.. I used to work in an iron and STEEL(E) foundry so i did some tinkering in that field, but i always wanted to do some blacksmithing. I never got to it though until now! I am making a little tiny forge for mouthwatering pieces of art like you showed in this video. Keep it up and thanks again!
Alec- awesome video, very informative. I've made the key fob before and made a rattlesnake rattle which turned out really sweet. Made some for friends and grandkids. I'm just an amateur compared to you. Your talent is unbelievable and your personality is infectious. You should have your own TV show! Keep up the good work.
i love the teaching style videos. i would have been worried about messing up yhe stem area by making it to thin first but ill have to try it that way next time i pull out the forge!
My mentor and professor constantly used to say (so much that I clearly remember it 40 years on) “Good, Better, Best; Never let it rest; ‘Til the good is better and the better best!
you are the most underrated TH-camr I know. you make great high quality videos and make a lot of them thank you sir you are an inspiration and I thoroughly enjoy your work
Great job Alec! You must be very fit now as you talked and swung that hammer for 15mins straight without stopping for a breath, the joys of a pair of 20yr old non smoking lungs, and a strong back. 👍🏻 Love this style of video mate, reminds me of the content you were putting out 18months ago.
I would love to have one of these in a really coarse dama steel. I've always been really fond of the low layer dama steel, it's just has a clean and robust look that really appeals to me.
Good video. It's the small 'tricks', like the hammer a groove into the wood, that makes your videos really good. Bought the blacksmithing videos. Great work. I can make a video on different steels for you to narrate. I teach welding and fabrication at a college.
Will do. I spent the evening watching Brian brazeal's video and as an beginner blacksmith, I learnt so much. Your tutorial and their video are so valuable for us. Keep up doing it and thanks for sharing !
Hey alec, this is great, I really enjoyed this! Can we get more howto videos on smaller beginner projects like this? Maybe some mini series like for example: How to forge a rose: Pt 1: The stem (and thornes) Pt2: The Leaves Pt3: The petals Pt4: Putting it all together and review... Thanks for this upload!
Thank you for posting this, feel free to show more technique and training (ish) videos. I have no problem finding fools making knives, but videos like this one are how i learn. thank you again
I love it. You could do an awesome series like "Weekly 15 minute forge" and this would be a perfect subject for it. I bet you have tons of fun little projects we could try like this one.

+1 for the steel video please
I agree!
Coil springs are high carbon steel the mower blades I don't know
If Bob Ross was a blacksmith.. this would be the type of video he would make.
Really do enjoy this format. There is more instruction in this video and I appreciate the transference of Brian's wisdom through you. You are spreading the gospel!
I don't know why anyone would dislike any of Alec's videos? They are all informative and entertaining

+mike o'neill thank you Mike. Sincerely appreciate it!
I'm a big fan of the channel I'm a big fan of Brian Bazear and I'm a giant fan of the rounding hammer. So it's the trifecta of greatness I'm watching
its always nice to see others flipping tools in their hands. is it not just so satisfying? loving your channel, just found it last week. I work in manufacturing, but this is the real deal!

Very cool. Great idea to show smaller projects for us newbies. I wish it were that easy! Thank you for the lesson.
i would love to see more beginner projects like this and more decorative pieces too.
Enjoy being able to watch a longer video. The longer video gives alot more information which is always good! Thanks!
Exactly as I've seen Brian do this. Nice to see you are keeping what you were taught alive and passing on the tradition. Very nice and efficient way to move the metal. I'd call your fuller/swage tool, a veining tool or stemming tool!
This is an awesome style of video - really appeals to the garage-forge hobbyists amoung us, so thank you very very much!
The energy and enthusiasm you put into your video's keeps me coming back for more, Keep up the good work.
I liked the format - especially the screen-in-screen where I can see what you are doing as well as what is happening at the anvil (i.e. what you are seeing). I also like having the object in focus when you zoom in... lol.
Glad you liked it James :P
You Are one Very Humble Man And I Like That, Because there Isn't Very many Humble People Around
+TeamKillaz 4Lif3 thank you my friend - I've got mountains to learn!
Alec, your videos are, without exception, always enjoyable.
Thank you for your style and presentation.
As an instructor at the first ever hands on training course at Autodesk University told me last year, "That's not a mistake, That's Custom". It seemed like you managed to blend it in anyway.
You have come so far in a year. Your format has improved dramatically.
Alec is the Bob Ross of blacksmithing.
These are the type videos I GREATLY APPRECIATE. Now I see a couple more tool's I need to making.
Thanks again Alec

Thanks for the little project ideas.
I love the format of this video (because I learn so much from you talking about each part of creating and forming the metal)!
Thank you Conan!
I found your channel a week or so ago. Been watching tons of your videos. This is one of my favorites so far....just because of the instructional aspect of it. I would really love to see more like this.

Alec, you're like a slightly-less-crazy version of Colin Furze. Maybe you and Colin should collab.
+Double Dare Fan 😂😂
put a 600cc engine on a power hammer
Thanks for being you Alec! keep it up

Great project! Also the format of this video rocked. I really enjoyed the angle on the anvil.
