OOoooooh I totally don't think that WALL-E's Personality is due to a Malfunction. I suspect that WALL-E'S personality is due to a designed Ghost in the Machine type algorithm in his software. WALL-E has those Media Function Keys on his body that let him record new information and add it to his cache of knowledge. I assume the original designers put this feature in so the units could be programmed with specific directives out in the field by B&L employees. However, I think the units were also designed to record all new unique information they deemed "useful" to their main directive. We see WALL-E do this when he records the stars and hand holding and all of that. My theory is that WALL-E is fairly similar to all of the other WALL-E units, but after adding more and more extraneous data over the course of centuries, his personality evolved from simple objective commands to a full on Positronic level consciousness. I think after decades of virtually doing the identical trash collecting movements, and the other unit's began to fail and deactivate WALL-E's program began to collect random bits of information on the items to better increase efficiency. He began collecting data on the different sizes and shapes of items, the weights and densities, how easy/hard they would to be compacted; and that eventually ended up creating subroutines that wondered about the purpose of the items. More items led to more curiosities, more curiosities lead to more need for WALL-E to record new information to add to his directive cache, and after a long ass time, you got a sentient little dude all built off of trial and error data collecting. So yeah, I do not believe that WALL-E's consciousness came from a malfunction that happened one day, I believe it is an unexpected feature of a device that has been left running LONG past it's intended longevity. It's one of the cooler things about the movie I think.

This movie is the perfect example of "Show don't Tell" you don't need someone to tell you the status of Earth, you don't need dialogue to understand the relationship between Eva and Wall E, everything is shown throw visuals and body languague, and that already makes Wall E a masterpiece

Late to the party. Its not as profound but evidence young kids can love pantomime is this film, and my toddlers current favorite show is all pantomime, no dialogue
So just now realized the shelf where wall-E sleeps and keeps his stuff is actually where he and the other Wall-Es stored themselves. So Wall-E filled them with stuff since he is now alone and is the only one who shuts down in the shelves. Kinda depressing
One other detail: the clip that he uses to hold his cooler was actually for the units hook hanging feature, but now repurposed to carry his makeshift backpack/lunchbox/suitcase, whatever it’s a perfect allegory
I absolutely love the scene where Wall-e demonstrates what his directive is in front of Eve. He has made thousands of perfectly squared trash boxes but when he tries to compact trash for Eve he rushes it and it almost falls apart because he's nervous. Kinda like when you try to play a tune on the guitar for a cute girl but you get nervous and mess up.
I never noticed that until reading this comment, but that is so cute... in my opinion, this movie is honestly one of the best movies ever created, and an animated one, at that!
Fun little detail I noticed in my most recent watch through: When we first see the captain's room and get to see the portraits of each captain, Auto gets closer and larger in every more recent portrait. It's kinda like showing how Auto has just been taking more and more control over the entire ship, including the captain.
@@JRexRegis On the reverse side though, it would make sense for him to be the antagonist. Unlike most of the other robots we see, like Wall-E, Eve and M-O, Auto doesn't have that little bit of sentience, or rather, humanity. He just wants to follow his orders and only that. In Auto's eye, he is the good guy just doing his job, while to everyone else he's the villain getting in the way of living instead of simply surviving.
Damn, it is. She was so worried about him so much that she needed to do things quick. No time for flying for two seconds, just do anything to save her new lover as fast as possible
2:42 funny thing, when Wall-E was in the Axiom's junkyard, the two giant versions of him were called “Wall-A”. I would assume the A stands for “Axiom Class” instead of E for “Earth Class”
It really is. All throughout, Wall-E is infectious, like when that male and female on the chairs and then touch hands, he creates a human connection just by going on by, he 'wakes up' so many other robots on his way. It is adorable!
I swear I'm literally in tears right now. This movie was the last birthday present I got from my grandad before he died. He was really sick back then but he said he had no idea what the movie was about but the little robot on the cover looked so cool with those glass eyes (I wore glasses at the time) and he wrote two words on a note in the box... "power through" Thanks so much for doing this movie
the thing about WALL-E's sentience, is that it only happened because he was left on for too long. he may have started out with one goal "Pick Up Trash", but overtime he both found more efficient ways to do it and found things he didn't classify as trash. just like in evolution, most everything has a purpose. He might've used the Atari to calibrate his servos after self-repairs, he might've used the iPod/VHS array to calibrate his internal piezos and cameras. but most of the stuff he has, he used to learn. because that's what happens when something tries to be more efficient, it learns. and much like humans, it develops an instinct to learn, to gather information, and to utilize that information. WALL-E's sentience isn't a malfunction, it's a consequence of design choices.
I wonder. If eve didn't show up could he finally discover "making stuff"? I mean he can repair what's broken and decorate but could he learn how to build, make art or even make other machines. Like could WALL-E after millennia make himself a friend? Could he repopulate the earth with robots? Could he teach them art, dancing etc.? Could he start a civilization?
@@sebasbot01 That's probably why EVE has a weapon to begin with, imagine if 200,000 wall-e units decided to build their society around an Independence Day DVD instead of a vhs copy of Hello Dolly
@Michael Fixedsys I also feel it briefly touches on the thought exercise of how many parts can you replace before you are someone else. If you "switch heads" with someone are you still you on someone else's body, or are they still them with someone else's head? In the context of transportation, where physical objects are 'destroyed' and 'recreated' elsewhere, is this recreated person the same one, or a different one? Where did the original one go? Is it our memories that make us who we are, or our personality? If we forget, or remember our memories differently are we now different people? If our personalities change, are we the same person? Are we more that just electrons firing in mushy grey matter? You exist as a different version of yourself to each person you meet. You exist to you co-workers different than you do to your parents. Along the ideas of your perception is your reality and we can all experience the same thing but perceive it differently. I do like your idea of how described AI learning as it applies to WALL-E, and seems like a logical thing that would be added to increase efficiencies, avoid dangers, and increase lifespan.
I would be so down for that. Not sure how they’d make it work in the context of the movie without it feeling like a random gimmick since they already used the robot idea.

I love how universally beloved this movie is, I’ve yet to find anyone who doesn’t like it for at least one reason or other. From cinephiles who love the shot composition, to technophiles who love the conceptual robots or the digital editing & details, to those who love this movie for the simplest but best reason “The story”. It’s a terrific film and I’m glad you chose to cover it. Edit: flipping autocorrect thinks I like talking about yetis.
I was in choir in high school and was the only one who didn’t hate this movie :/ (it’s been in my top 3 since I saw it in theaters when I was little so you can imagine my devastation) They all said it was boring, especially the beginning, because of it’s lack of dialogue Which is arguably the best part of that movie for that exact reason so meh
It’s so funny but also kind of unsettling that this movie ended up being made under the corporation that is arguably the closest to becoming our own B&L.
“And they both instantly died of heart attacks after 700 years of no human to human contact” 😂😂 that really made me chuckle, this video was so funny, keep it up

@@endminer9217 yes, and Up specially, because I think they discuss a subject barely brought up in movies: widowness, grieve after losing a long time partner, and how important it is to move on. Wall-E and Up are from 2008 and 2009 respectively, and still they both seem so recent and relevant.
oh my goodness, that is so clever. it really shows the incredible attention to detail and effort that went into this movie. it's truly a masterpiece in my opinion
WALL-E is one of those movies that honestly gets better as you get older because then you can truly appreciate the things you missed when you watched it earlier, especially the visual storytelling. Not only do I think this is one of the greatest animated movies (my personal favorite animated movie), I think this is one of the greatest movies period!
I haven't watched this movie in years (I was a big fan when I was a little kid) and I just rewatched it, and it hits different now that I'm older. So many things I noticed and thought about that I didn't before
Missed win: the score to Wall•E and Eve space dancing. It's such an incredible piece of music that absolutely captures their (Okay, Eve's reciprocating) blooming feelings and Eve's relief and happiness that Wall•E survived the pod's explosion
One little detail I’ve always liked in this movie is when EVE scans the plant for the first time: You can see when her programming takes over by the change in her eye shape. They go from oval shaped to circles the moment her scanner identifies a positive sample. Just another cool detail they put in.
I have tics and one of vocal tics is just ✨M-O✨and my friends find it hilarious because it’s always accompanied by WALL-E and EVE when they introduced themselves XD
I just noticed after watching the movie that by the end their positions are slightly reversed. Just slightly. Wall-E has just been cleaned by mo in the dump and is visibly cleaner and paler even if he's still boxy and scuffed up. Eve has just been dirty and scuffed, especially near her base, but she's still round shiny and sleek. They're starting to understand each other. Wall-E is starting to understand why Eve's directive is so important, and Eve realizes that there are other things. Or maybe I'm up way too late and looking way too deeply into things
I sort of saw it as anti pessimism. Like people complain about these little inaccuracies and logical misteps, but it doesn't detract from it being a great movie, and from the story it's trying to tell. So instead of ignoring it, mention it, but draw a little attention to it in a tounge and cheek kind of way
I find it interesting that EVE; the slick, streamlined, top-of-the-line robot has devastating, explosive and indiscriminate firepower whereas WALL-E; the clunky, patched up and obsolete robot has a precision laser.

“Everywhere Wall-E goes he changes the world”. I love this line, and it resonates so deeply with me. Wall-E’s innate desire to help others inspired me so much as a kid watching this movie. If you have Disney plus, there’s a series called Pixar in real life, where they surprise people in New York with characters from Pixar come to life, and Wall-E is his own episode. The trope consists of a woman stopping you by a mini dumpster telling you she lost her wedding ring in the trash, and to stay there while she gets something to help her find it from her car, to make sure the trash truck doesn’t come while she’s gone. Once she’s out of sight, Wall-E pops out of a box in the dumpster, hands you her ring, and rolls away. She then comes back, sees you found her ring, asks you how, and when you explain she thinks you’re crazy. Seeing Wall-E “real” in this episode made me emotional. Because again his purpose was helping someone. And I’ll also say if I ever was in New York, and I saw Wall-E rolling down the street, I would abandon whatever I was doing, and follow him around like a child.
If you think about it, If you have played or seen Detroit become human, Basically Wall-E and Eva are deviants, They both share emotions without having to have actual human faces
My favourite moment in this entire film is when Eve is re-building Wall-E, and she loves him so much and is so completely desperate for him to come back that she cannot even waste a few seconds pushing him to the open door, she blasts a hole in the ceiling because it is the fastest way for her to be reunited with him, even if it's only by a moment. That there is true love.

Third- In my opinion, i think that she asked him "are you among us?" To clarify if he's a friend or an enemy But even if that was Hebrew, that would be very cool! :)
I’ve always loved how the casing around Wall-E’s eyes have eyebrows. Gives a real way to show emotion, like when he hits the car key fob and the horn honks.
It's high up there but Your Name and A Silent Voice (This movie would do infinitely better than all those anti-bullying campaigns) take the 1 and 2 spots for me. It's definitely up there and underrated with Ratatouille.
Luigi Marinus Gaming I don’t think the incredibles 2 deserves to be on that list. All of the character growth and development of the first film is undone. The villain’s plan doesn’t really make sense, and jack jack is too powerful. It wasn’t a bad movie, but when compared to the original, it doesn’t hold a candle

That captain is one my all-time favorite characters. He fights for what is good, and he has the courage to think for himself. Alone the quote "I don't want to survive, I want to live" is such an inspiration. He doesn't give up and manages to stand, even though he has difficulties to start since they hadn't to for years.
Especially since in every single movie (at least the ones I’ve seen) the captain or the person with the most power is the bad guy, however in this movie he’s one of the good guys. Another reason why I love this movie.
Sorry to make you upset, but the only reason it was a two-parter was because he had trouble writing the conclusion. In other words, the next part is just the end of the review. My apologies if you wanted more wins out of it. Trust me, I did as well.
I remember when i was younger my dad (who could not give less of a shit about movies) saw this with me at the cinema. He was going to take me to kung fu panda and he wasn't looking forward to it (the movie didn't look too good to him i assume). I must have seen an advert or something for Wall-E because i just out of now where said "Wall-E" immitating the robot's voice. He either must have liked the look of the film himself or read a review about it or something because he took me saying that as an oppertunity. So we saw Wall-E instead. I can't say if he loved it, but when it came out on DVD, he invited his friend and his kids over to watch it with me.
Wall-E has such a special place in my heart. I always loved how sweet and innocent they both were and how cute they were. Now that I’m older I realize we may be closer to living in a world like wall-e than we were when it came out
I don't know if it was noticed, but I like the fact that Wall-E it's a reverse fish-out-of-water story. Think about it. Wall-E goes to this new place, by accident and following his love, but instead of learning from the other side, the other side learns from his actions in the place.
@@mhawang8204 The reason why I describe it as a "fish out of water" is because of the character going to a completely different world they don't know. A lot of those stories where the character changes the people around them instead of them usually are set in an already recognizable place. But, WallE doesn't have that recognizable when he goes to the ship. Hell, Earth only appears for 10 minutes in the whole movie. But, I think your point is also valid
The two Strauss pieces mentioned are actually by two different Strausses: "The Blue Danube" is by Johann Strauss II, but "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is by Richard Strauss (no relation).
Eve's quiet "no" followed by an even quieter, almost choked sob "no" after the escape pod explodes breaks my heart every time and it should've been a win
If you want to be generous, they do still have the powered Axiom which they can strike out from, which they can use for shelter, water, adjusting to gravity in the pool, and other resources, like how the credits show people using the escape pods as shelters. Won't do much about the muscle or skeletal degeneration, but I'm trying to be generous here!
Just a funny note in the original ending wall-e didn’t have amnesia after Eve repaired him and it ended with him starring at her trying to figure out why she blew a hole in his roof
I love that the movie doesn't explain what WALL-A stands for and just assumes if you understood WALL-E youd know they were "Waste Allocation Load Lifter - Axiom_Class"
I don't think I ever thought to freeze-frame where the WALL is explained on-screen, but the E/A division became clear to me through watching the movie. So many details are in here just waiting to be picked up by attentive viewers. I love this film so much.
You missed that the ship goes so close to the Sun in order to use its gravity force as a gravitationnal slingshot Which is a really accurate detail to current space travel
5:35 I believe that laser was meant for cutting large pieces of garbage into manageable sized ones to compact. I'm not sure if it was designed solely to be used as a weapon, even though it can be used as one.
I am pretty sure that is intended fu function. Man, for years I asked myself why Wall-E would have a laser to beging with, then I realized that in fact the laser helps him to cut down big chuncks of trahs into smaller ones
I love how well this movie aged. So many CGI movies and shows from Disney even released today cant compare. Thats how you know the creators of Wall-E cared about their content. They put everything they had into it and it shows
I love that Wall-E himself is a window into ourselves. That opening song says it all. Wall-E sees this wasteland and thinks this, the mess he has to clean up, is the Earth everyone knew and loved. He has never known a clean and beautiful earth, but thinks it beautiful because what remains of culture has told him it is. This prompts the question of whether we have done the same. Whether our traditions and values have caused 21st century humanity to believe our planet is as beautiful as it ever was in spite of our efforts to destroy what made it beautiful - some of which have already long since succeeded.

WALL-E is the best ever movie Pixar ever made.
Nothing can ever change my mind!
Fun little detail I noticed in my most recent watch through:
When we first see the captain's room and get to see the portraits of each captain, Auto gets closer and larger in every more recent portrait.
It's kinda like showing how Auto has just been taking more and more control over the entire ship, including the captain.
I enjoyed that as well, since it's kind of subtle, but obvious once you notice it.
Also, that he is always there beside the captains, being 700 years old now.
Well... that's scary. I definitely did not notice
Honestly I wish Auto wasn't treated as the antagonist for the movie. He's literally doing his job, one which he has done for 700 years.
EVE blew a hole in Wall•E’s roof because she couldn’t wait the two seconds to fly him out, it’s really romantic actually
It is, and goddamn if it isn't another inch of that knife in your heart in that scene.

Damn, it is. She was so worried about him so much that she needed to do things quick. No time for flying for two seconds, just do anything to save her new lover as fast as possible

“define dancing” is the most beautiful song on this movie’s entire score.

Mr. HoneyComb yes that one is amazing as well !
Closely followed by "2815 AD" just for the sheer feeling of hopelessness and uncanny valley at seeing and recognizing our planet in *that* state.
the thing about WALL-E's sentience, is that it only happened because he was left on for too long. he may have started out with one goal "Pick Up Trash", but overtime he both found more efficient ways to do it and found things he didn't classify as trash. just like in evolution, most everything has a purpose.

The beginning scenes with WALL-E being a mostly silent film save the TV makes me wish for Pixar to take a risk and make a silent film with no dialogue
I would be so down for that. Not sure how they’d make it work in the context of the movie without it feeling like a random gimmick since they already used the robot idea.

I love characters like Wall•E who are more or less unremarkable but just so kind that they end up changing the world regardless.

Heya! I actually disagree. It sounds very similar to Hebrew but I'm pretty sure that it was "are you among us" but still, very nice and cool!!

היי, אתה תופתע אבל תאמת שגם אני מישראל ועברית היא השפה הראשונה שלי :)
Now, I do think that it was english for 2 reasons:
First- it was the last (if I'm not mistaken) Language that she used on wall-e and he replied to her, therefore It's probably english,
Second- usually in in movie bits like this the last language they use, so the viewers and the protagonist of the movie will understand the person that's talking is the language that used in the movie itself, therefore the probability of it being english is high.

Tobías Yance that was the peak? I was thinking Shrek vs The Incredibles or something
@@monojuice you do know Shrek and The Incredibles came way before, right?

Wall-E has such a special place in my heart. I always loved how sweet and innocent they both were and how cute they were. Now that I’m older I realize we may be closer to living in a world like wall-e than we were when it came out
I don't know if it was noticed, but I like the fact that Wall-E it's a reverse fish-out-of-water story.
Think about it. Wall-E goes to this new place, by accident and following his love, but instead of learning from the other side, the other side learns from his actions in the place.
It's the narrative where the protagonist doesn't change, but everyone around him is changed by him. Paddington is another example.

Ling Ling Approved.
Eve's quiet "no" followed by an even quieter, almost choked sob "no" after the escape pod explodes breaks my heart every time and it should've been a win

>points out a massive plothole in the movie
>gives it a win anyway
Shhh, don't question it
If you want to be generous, they do still have the powered Axiom which they can strike out from, which they can use for shelter, water, adjusting to gravity in the pool, and other resources, like how the credits show people using the escape pods as shelters.

Yeah I totally understood that and didn't just realise it when I read this comment
I think when I was younger I thought it was just related to the size. E is tiny, A is huge. Completely missed the acronym.

You missed that the ship goes so close to the Sun in order to use its gravity force as a gravitationnal slingshot
Which is a really accurate detail to current space travel

5:35 I believe that laser was meant for cutting large pieces of garbage into manageable sized ones to compact. I'm not sure if it was designed solely to be used as a weapon, even though it can be used as one.
I am pretty sure that is intended fu function.
Man, for years I asked myself why Wall-E would have a laser to beging with, then I realized that in fact the laser helps him to cut down big chuncks of trahs into smaller ones
Wall e and Eve
I love how well this movie aged. So many CGI movies and shows from Disney even released today cant compare. Thats how you know the creators of Wall-E cared about their content. They put everything they had into it and it shows
I was crying in this and this wasn't even the full movie. SMH Goes to show how powerful of a film Wall-E truly is
I love how Eve scans everything dutifully until the pod (her boss) leaves and she starts joyfully flying around
Eve's voice saying "No..." at 10:42-10:46 is heart-shatteringly genuine. It gets me every time.
I never realized how little dialogue most of this movie has, like to me it just feels like so much is being said all the time
Awesome use of Show, don't tell.
6:38 I never thought someone would be able to make an animated robot so unbelievably relatable, but I think EVERYONE knows exactly how that feels
Help me I don't get it
5:53: The jazzy increase with the failure of Wall-E gets me every time. And with the Wile E Coyote crush after is always funny.
I stopped watching CinemaSins a while ago, due to the negativity of the videos; they stopped being funny, and just started being... shitting on movies. CinemaWins, on the other hand, always helps me enjoy old movies in a new light.
Didn't knew abt the opposite sins channel but I don't wanna watch it either
Yeah. There is a point where the quirky and funny jokey criticism turns into petty hate and it stops being funny. The reason I despise Honest Trailers is because of that reason... it’s just blatant negativity with no punchline. It never actually made me laugh.
yeah, i watched cinemasins when i was in highschool because of our VFX class and screenwriting class (we were doing the same thing in the classes, watching scenes from movies or trailers and pointing out what's wrong and how it could've been done better), but i realized i became so bitter about movies i watched, even when i was watching movies in my free time i was always looking for flaws and on top of that cinemasins started counting even the unimportant details as sins, f.e. "oh the character in movie uses a sony smartphone! sony is trash!!" and added it as a sin, like- what?!
what they do is not a constructive criticism, it became (as you described) just shitting on movies
For a moment I thought you meant Wins at first
One thing I really liked was how in the pictures of the captains Auto gets closer in each one, reflecting his increasing control over the ship and the captain.
YES
and that's also when the Captain has his shock of realisation, understanding the same thing
It's really rather vain -- and a little stupid! -- of the autopilot to behave like that. After all that time, it grew arrogant, I suppose. Its hubris was its downfall! x)
I’ve very rarely cried at a movie. In my life, maybe around 5 times.
Wall-E was one of them.
I haven't. _At all_ . But I've never had a film before that I've seen _so often_ (period), and yet makes me blubber every single time. :')
I rewatched Wall-E before I finished this and totally forgot about it. I my have went down a rabbit hole of 2 Cars movies 👀
God, Wall-E has always been a huge comfort movie for me. I’ve loved it ever since I was a kid and I still love it at 15. The style and details on Wall-E is absolutely amazing. Plus, I love the lack of talking in the beginning. It’s amazing
