It's a shame Pucci was relegated to the montage, because I think his is a great example of the terror super speed can provide. Almost every time you see a speedster, either they're a hero, or they're currently fighting a speedster hero, so you get the accelerated perspective. Pucci is not like that. Pucci is the only speedster in the battle, and he is explicitly an antagonist, so you never get his perspective. That's TERRIFYING, because once he starts to go fast, you NEVER get a clear look at him unless time is stopped and he can't move, or he actively chooses to stop in order to monologue or glare. They constantly lose track of him, and when that happens, you don't get to know where he is either. His attacks are so fast that the damage is dealt well after his blur has vanished, if there's even a blur at all. You get NOTHING to work from unless he chooses to let you have something. It absolutely shows the terror of a threat so powerful it can only be born through a holy ritual to achieve Heaven itself.
Yeah JoJo always does a real great job of truly making you afraid of the villain’s power. When they first meet Dio in part 3, no one even knows what his powers is and he just keeps moving from place to place in the blink of an eye. Even after discovering what his ability is, it’s still tough to truly find a way to counter it. With Pucci, they start off thinking they have the upper hand because of Jotaro’s stand ability to stop time like Dio did, but his power is directly affected by Made in Heaven and it’s ability to speed things up. It cuts his ability duration in half, and Pucci is even fast enough to react to what Jotaro does while in stopped time which makes it even more difficult to counter him. They basically had to sacrifice one of their friends in order to even try and get a hit on him, and even then Pucci outsmarted Jotaro by putting Jolyne in harm’s way which made him too late to reach Pucci and damage him at all.
@freddycashbear2164 I don't think that's true. Pucci had a lot of knives to throw at Jolyne, he probably just held on to one and used it to cut Hermes' arm off. It's still one of the scary things about speedsters, though. A speedster comes at you with a knife and you can't even process what they did before your limbs are no longer attached and there's a hole in your heart.

@@ProjektTaku Yeah, and despite how anime is taken, I think Dragon Ball's take on flight is a great choice to analyze. Most of the time, the speed and air change of high altitude would cause your body to grow too cold, or bugs/birds/other flying fauna to hit you smack dab in the nose, but Dragon Ball handles that with such intense heat circulating the man in flight, that all of it is nullified! I think people fail to consider things like that, and whether it was intentional or not, the man innovated in a way most people don't even consider. I mean, I've swallowed bugs while riding my bike, I can't imagine what else you would hit if you were flying in the air at Mach 5!
Since you mentioned Pucci in the speed montage, I just wanna point out that the whole sequence of the world speeding up to its eventually collapse is visually fantastic. You can see the sun and moon blazing across the skies until they literally smear into a huge arc of light across the sky. Idk if it really counts the same as super speed, but it’s just such an amazing visual representation of super speed in general that I thought I’d point it out.
Yeah it's definitely not super speed. If anything, the perception of other living things in the universe is super slow, as people are perceiving the universe speedup to the point where it restarts.

The best part about Kabuto is that one of the insert songs for the show is called "Lord of Speed." And recently that's being rivaled by Boost Mk 9 Kamen Rider Geats.
Whenever I see anything in kamen rider related to speed, I will always immediately compare it to kabuto. And with boost mark 2 and 9 I also thought if they might be faster than clock up. The answer is no though. When geats goes fast it's more of a "Flash" fast where he is constantly accelerating forward and attacking as he passes by (yes I know flash can get fast enough to have things stay still around him), instead of being fast in away that time practically slows down (again, it's not called *clock* up for no reason) like kabuto. I will be very disappointed though when the day comes that another rider will become faster than kabuto as that kabuto being the fastest rider was what made him special in comparison. (Decade and zi o don't count they're anniversary, they're allowed to have other riders' abilities.)

@12:20 I don't know if you know this but way before the angry birds movie, there a series of short clips were, chuck show cased his speed while one of the characters was falling off a cliff.
“It’s nice to know that over the years, and even all over the world, everyone did their part to contribute to the library of super speed effects” Good saying👍
I'm so happy I found this video. I've been interested in how super speed is shown in different media! While the slow-motion time while the character is in regular time is classic, I'm a huge fan of what they did in Eternals.
To that last point you made: Back when he was working on MPH, Mark Millar talked about how the cool factor of superpowers is largely subjective-- but we all possess the primal desire to "go fast", making super speed the one power that every living person desires. I think that's such an interesting idea & it definitely holds water as a theory.
What sets Ben 10's XLR8 apart from pretty much all other speedsters for me is that his design makes him seem like a creature that is actually inteded to move at high speeds.
The badass kamen rider kabuto part, he's intentionally holding back that time cuz he is about to fight a monster who had shape shifted into his friend's dead brother. that scene with the rain drops, is when he finally got the word from his friend to destroy said monster pretending to be his dead brother. btw that's only like, episode 3 into the series.
I was really looking forward to Hammy being introduced to caffeine in _Over the Hedge_ but was totally taken aback when they went with slo-mo for depicting ultra-speed. Absolutely hilarious! Especially the slow-moving gap in the laser beam.
I think its important that directors make the decision of: "Does our character have actuall speed powers (like the flash) or can they just move very fast (like Captain America, wonder woman, black panther etc). Because the first justifies extensive bullet time like the kitchen scene form X-Men, whereas the second one looks better when shot in "real time" and without any flashy effects.
I love the trope of a super fast hero throwing punches on the all powerful villain, like in x man apocalypse, justice league and invincible, maybe even in rock lee vs gaara, there is something satisfying in seeing super speed being useful where all of the other powers can't match
As a collegiate cross country and track runner and as someone who has had his body be put through excruciating speeds through running, it's very very interesting to see how filmmakers have tackled the issue of what super speed would do to the human body! As always, very well done My good sir! Keep up the good work
The chase scene in Kung Fu Hustle had me literally rolling on the floor laughing the first time I saw it. I wasn't able to get back in my seat until the scene was over and I could breathe again.
This was really fun to watch! One thing I’d like to mention is that in the Ben 10 section you didn’t mention Jetray from Alien Force. Though I understand why since his speed was criminally underused and wasn’t that interesting visually.
@@cxthednalien But one thing people often forget, is that Jetray is faster than both, since he once flew so fast he entered FTL travel Also, never mentioned Clockwork, who slows down or even stops time at will
@@flastyy_While the "Jetray is faster than XLR8" topic is debatable,it still counts as him being a flying alien rather than a speedster like all the other people in the video It would be off if a flying alien was included in a list with characters who run very fast
@@cxthednalien I never said he should be included, but I am saying that Jetray is objectively faster than XLR8. The latter has been outrun and still takes a few seconds to cross countries even when Ben's older, Jetray traveled through multiple galaxies in a few seconds. This isn't debatable when the shows clearly demonstrate it.
such a plesant chill voice this dude have. about time that i hit that subscribe button. Also, speed is and will always be the best superpower in my opinion
i read once that, more recently, we are seeing more time stoppers instead of speedster, because thats what we see them do. instead of moving fast in normal time (like jack sheperd, red rush,XLR8 or Turbo) , they move normally in slow time (like David, Hammy, Quicksilver, or Metroman) and i cant believe you left out my favorite little speedster: Dash, and his incredible speeding scene running accidentaly on water
Almost all of the fights in the first season of One Punch man are great examples too, also Omni-man, Superman, and other supermanesque characters have an interesting way of doing speed when flying
I’m baffled by the fact that you know Shaktimaan. I haven’t seen that show since I was 6 years old. I still remember when I was 4-5 watching it, it was my favorite show at the time. Holy cow, the nostalgia.
Great video, I love how with each example how the speed effects were made were included. My favorite speedster is from Guardians of Justice. In the show two characters have access to the speed force of that universe and one of the characters uses it to write out a message for help that only the other character can see. It’s a great use of speed effects that I haven’t seen elsewhere
I remember Kevin Smith, when working on the Flash show, saying they had a name for entering and exiting the room. Was them having an air blast that kicked up papers and such.
I absolutely did not expect Shaktiman here, yep the vfx is janky but its all they had and what their budget allowed and this show definitely changed the hemisphere in India when it was released, immortalising the actor who played Shaktiman
Great video, the ice cream bit from kungfu hustle is still one of my favorite comedy moments to this day. I also loved the amount of variety of mediums you included.

Spent a while on this one so thank you for the kind words.
@12:20 I don't know if you know this but way before the angry birds movie, there a series of short clips were, chuck show cased his speed while one of the characters was falling off a cliff.
Thank you sir, for this incredibly well constructed and detailed analysis of Turbo, the snail 12:07
Shaktimaan, Kamen Rider, Kung Fu Hustle, Megamind, Ben freaking 10 !!! Bro just took me to a nostalgia trip.
The way you pronounced Metrocity at 11:11 is just golden for me. I miss Megamind
I just had to.
I literally paused the video to find a comment of a fellow Megamind lover, that also noticed that :D
i am so glad you talked about kabuto
Love your voice!! I was waiting for this video after watching the other one!❤
12:18 Whoa, that snail is fast!
Thank you for including Agents of Shield.
I think David Martinez was my favorite speedster, just because of how unique and stylish his speed sequences were.
@JACOBDICKERSON-xz6kq 🤢
@JACOBDICKERSON-xz6kq sorry, i thought you meant the actual show, not his speed effect
I’m a simple man, I see Kabuto, i clicked
Same
Are we not going to acknowledge that Steve carrel’s voice was too animated for the animation team for over the hedge
“It’s nice to know that over the years, and even all over the world, everyone did their part to contribute to the library of super speed effects”
Good saying👍
i did not expect shaktiman here but a pleasant surprise
I'm so happy I found this video. I've been interested in how super speed is shown in different media! While the slow-motion time while the character is in regular time is classic, I'm a huge fan of what they did in Eternals.
I think savatar in the flash is one of my favorite examples, its just so unique visually
The badass kamen rider kabuto part,
he's intentionally holding back that time cuz he is about to fight a monster who had shape shifted into his friend's dead brother. that scene with the rain drops, is when he finally got the word from his friend to destroy said monster pretending to be his dead brother.
btw that's only like, episode 3 into the series.
Wasn't aware of the plot thank you.
@@y.reviews oh, you found my comment.....
more speed scenes from this series. just look up "kamen rider faiz accel" or "kamen rider accel trial"
8:23 love that you recreated how the title is revealed in pure invincible fashion haha
0:06 Oh wow, some people had no chill over an opinion
I was really looking forward to Hammy being introduced to caffeine in _Over the Hedge_ but was totally taken aback when they went with slo-mo for depicting ultra-speed. Absolutely hilarious! Especially the slow-moving gap in the laser beam.
That Yoyo stuff was really nice.
Like some of the best speedester visualizations I've seen.
SpongeBob has already reached the pinnacle of CGI speed.
Saw Kabuto and just went for it, didn't dissapoint.
Man keep this up, you're doing great with this vídeos.
I think its important that directors make the decision of: "Does our character have actuall speed powers (like the flash) or can they just move very fast (like Captain America, wonder woman, black panther etc). Because the first justifies extensive bullet time like the kitchen scene form X-Men, whereas the second one looks better when shot in "real time" and without any flashy effects.
wonder woman does have speed powers.. and cap and black panther are nowhere near her... just saying
This video made me really happy. Thank you so much!
I love the trope of a super fast hero throwing punches on the all powerful villain, like in x man apocalypse, justice league and invincible, maybe even in rock lee vs gaara, there is something satisfying in seeing super speed being useful where all of the other powers can't match
Glad you considered shaktimaan nostalgia ❤
As a collegiate cross country and track runner and as someone who has had his body be put through excruciating speeds through running, it's very very interesting to see how filmmakers have tackled the issue of what super speed would do to the human body! As always, very well done My good sir! Keep up the good work
You as well. 🏃♂️
11:11 I can't believe you spelled the name of the city the right way! That's some real dedication to one's craft.
elou?
Is there more than one way to spell it?
Ive been waiting my whole life for this video. Thank you 🙏🙌🙏🙌
The Metroman sequence was one of my favourites, also the Wonder Woman scene was a really slick sequence.
the fact you know what kamen rider is deserves a sub.
You just unlocked so many memories when that Zoom segment played. I forgot I had ever watched that movie as a kid lmao.
Fun film.
The chase scene in Kung Fu Hustle had me literally rolling on the floor laughing the first time I saw it. I wasn't able to get back in my seat until the scene was over and I could breathe again.
Your videos really make my day. Hate to see that you are so underated man. Your work is great. keep it up. You have my support!!!!!!!
🙏
Missed opportunity to have the phineas and ferb episode where they make speed shoes and Candace uses them to be in two places at the same time
bro put morbius in there for 5 seconds, that's a crime.
Love that Kamen Rider Kabuto got some recognition.
This was really fun to watch! One thing I’d like to mention is that in the Ben 10 section you didn’t mention Jetray from Alien Force. Though I understand why since his speed was criminally underused and wasn’t that interesting visually.
Jetray is more of a flying alien than a "speed" alien such as XLR8 and Fasttrack
@@cxthednalien He is, but he’s also really fast, so i felt like it was worth mentioning
@@cxthednalien But one thing people often forget, is that Jetray is faster than both, since he once flew so fast he entered FTL travel
Also, never mentioned Clockwork, who slows down or even stops time at will
@@flastyy_While the "Jetray is faster than XLR8" topic is debatable,it still counts as him being a flying alien rather than a speedster like all the other people in the video
It would be off if a flying alien was included in a list with characters who run very fast
You might want to check out Part 1 on the channel. Dash is featured heavily.
5:43 YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO XLR8 & FASTRACK LET'S GOOOOO
Almost all of the fights in the first season of One Punch man are great examples too, also Omni-man, Superman, and other supermanesque characters have an interesting way of doing speed when flying
Didn't expect to see Shaktimaan. Very nice exhaustive list
Surprised you didn't show the episode of ben 10 where XLR8's speed makes the rest of the world seem frozen
It's a classic showing of super speed so might not be special enough
I’m baffled by the fact that you know Shaktimaan. I haven’t seen that show since I was 6 years old. I still remember when I was 4-5 watching it, it was my favorite show at the time. Holy cow, the nostalgia.
Glad I could bring him back for this vid.
Came here for the Kamen Rider Kabuto, stayed for the rest of the intrigue.
I've been watching video essays for about a decade now, and this one definitely blew me away. Perfection!
Appreciate you.
I think Quicksilver in Avengers: Age Of Ultron was done really well.
stumbled upon this and actually spent half an hour watching it. WOW
Please include Red Buster from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, the 36th Super Sentai.
11:11 The person who made this video is actually Megamind confirmed by the way he pronounces "Metrocity"
It's just too good. And thank you.
4:40 how was the running better than current flash CGI running?
It's so nice that you acknowledged SHAKTIMAN in your video... My childhood has been validated 😅
