Sure you could, if they have a lockable IR signature. Similar to how stinger missiles can fire at ground targets as well. The only problem is that sidewinders and stinger missiles are fast with a pay-load designed to destroy aircraft, so you won't have the same effect against armored vehicles.

Would you like to tell me where the tanks are in Afghanistan? The A-10 is a general ground attack/strike aircraft, it was never designed for specifically hunting tanks. The GAU-8 wasn't even designed to penetrate the armor of a tank, it just could.
True, but with a few modifications it could carry Harpoon missiles. The JASDF even considered it for a coastal defense aircraft. Most modern warships, to an A-10, would be nothing more than tanks on water with better AA defense.

It's 'cuz Ace Combat is supposed to be unrealistically easier than real life to be fun. Falcon 4.0 is good, but Ace Combat's story-telling, graphics, and gameplay are just so damn tasty.
I got a nasty kick in the balls when I had to take on the cruiser with an F-2 and no ASMs. Apparently I'd used up too many beforehand... to think, they used to be better than bombs and SODs in 6 with their godly AOE; it used to be one missile for one ship.

This mission has one major flaw with the available choice of the jet aircraft. Wasn't A-10 designed to provide CAS (Close Air Support) for ground forces by attacking armored vehicles and other ground targets? How is it suitable for the "intercept" role in the sea?

No, planes are unlocked for you in this game, and you can often only use specific types. I personally much preferred the older system of buying them.

Who ever said that AC was a simulator? Anyone with basic knowledge about actual combat aircraft would know this is faaaar removed from a simulator.
