That's me I wouldn't date bellow 5'8" being a legs guy and wanting to maintain the tall genes for the sake of the next generation with me being 6'6" if I ever decide to have kids. I don't want them to resent me with the dating market only getting harder. I also find I end up feeling paternal towards chicks below 5'6" being a whole foot shorter or more my brain just can't take them seriously as sexual beings I perceive the same as a 13 years old girl sure they hit puberty my brain says but there not a woman yet.

Most women don’t understand height. I’m roughly 6’ and I’ve had girls tell me I’m too tall for them. So what most of these women usually mean is “I prefer someone taller than me”. Too tall and you’re kind of a freakishly monstrously taller than her. Four to five inches taller and it’s the Goldilocks zone for them.

I dunno dude the difference is incredibly negligible in that case. I'm 6'0 but I TECHNICALLY clock in at the high end of 5'11, and my drivers license says I'm 5'11 because I got it in high school. But any time I'm measured I always round up to 6'0. It's especially negligible if you're just a quarter or half an inch under 6'0.

The issue is, along with many other dating app issues, we allow our first impression to be our only impression.

My ex incentivated me to go on apps to have lots of sex with different women, strangers, just for fun as she was doing... until she admitted it had become toxic but also a great ego booster. So what do you think women are there for? If anyone has any lingering shame, they should not, because - everyone - that is single is on these things. I’m 5’7 considered above average looking and with a good career. I fair well with most women I meet (not online) have had exes taller and shorter than me. But there has been a few occasions, where I knew for a fact I was turned down because of my height. They didn’t say in so many words but I knew. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be short, bald, below average looks and poor. Women say they want emotional connection, but many just wants the exterior. I look deep into most things because everything IS deep to me. That’s how I perceive things. Height is a superficial thing in the context of a happy relationship. If a tall man is your preference it may make you happy initially but when there are challenges in the relationship or your general lives, the fact he’s tall will be completely irrelevant. Having a preference for tall men doesn’t automatically make a person have less substance I agree however setting preferences on the app to exclude the majority of men is counterproductive and to me, smacks of superficiality.

To each their own though! For me, looks aren’t very important. @Lisa Fenwick I feel like women being hyper picky on dating apps is simply because they can. You have this super abundance of guys and the ability to pick out who you deem to be the best of the best so why wouldn't you if given the choice. Problem is that the guys who are getting all the matches on those apps realize that they are actually the minority group, not the women. And when men are the minority group that are being sought after they often won't settle down as there is no incentive to do so. So the girls will usually get back on the app cause it worked before but they won't really change the criteria for guy they are looking for and just end up with more of the same.

Women look for a sense of safety/security in choosing a potential mate. A larger mate translates to higher safety/security, regardless of their ability to actually provide that safety/security. And they want to feel “small” next to their partner.
The quality of women on dating apps is terrible anyways. If you are at least of average height, fit, educated and upper middle class then you should be the one doing the choosing, not them. I think online people are brave enough to be very rude and selective. People you meet in person are more polite. When I was dating in the 1970’s (a long long time ago) what I found attractive were men who were tall, very thin, brown hair and a darker complexion. Social media had nothing to do with it. I didn’t want my children to be short and pale like me! But as it turned out my pale genes won out. All my children are tall, pale and freckled. 🤷🏼♀️

As much as I hate girls picking us when it comes to height, height actually does predict happiness in couples: The man should be at least 4 in taller than the woman. Also, the man should weigh more than the woman. Happiness actually is based on these attributes. As a shorter man myself of 5'7" & 135lbs, it does make things difficult.
Sigh. I am a 6’1” woman from a small township. I was accustomed to weighing more than all of my peers prior to puberty, and after a rapid & painful growth spurt, I wound up 8 inches taller and the exact same weight. I am now accustomed to being taller than most everyone, men included. Assuming that we are aligned in values, goals and work ethic, I’m attracted to men as low as 5’9” without even thinking it over much. All of the women in my family (mother’s side) are tall and skinny and married to shorter men with the exception of my own mother.
My friends however? Different story. All hover around 5’3” to 5’6” and are insistent on 6 foot men …the gag is, their boyfriends insist they are 6 feet tall and yet several inches shorter than me 💀 that said, they are semi-professional and/or professional athletes so if pressed they say their official height listened includes their sneakers or cleats.
When we’ve talked on the topic, I once asked if my girls’ preference had to do with safety or feeling protected by a larger man and they denied it. I don’t know if I believe it necessarily - how important is feeling protected to a relationship? Genuinely wondering.

As a woman who is 5'11", I want a man over 6' so I can feel small and cute. That being said, 6'5" is starting to get too tall imo. That's a 6 inch difference. And yet there are girls who are 5'4" saying 5'10" is too short. I can't fathom why unless they just really like how their boyfriends get double chins when they look down at them

As a 6’ tall woman, height isn’t a requirement as much as a strong preference(but not as strong as personality preferences). On the other hand I think I get overlooked a lot by men of all heights because of my height. I think most guys want short women so they can feel more masculine(which I understand because being with a taller guy makes me feel more feminine). I have also found that some guys can be really short but because of their presence seem taller(confidence and genuine competence).

Honestly as a man under 6 ft nothing wrong with it 🤷. Most American women want to be single and independent. Their emotional connection are their phones and Netflix. Plus a lot of them make decent money. Sucks for us American men but we can always look out for women outside the country or in areas that aren’t as affected by social media.

As a woman, I can say with confidence that most women avoid them. Men outnumber women 4:1 on OLD. If they do use them, they're turning to them out of desperation & loneliness AND many only use them for a short time because of the failure rate/ harassment. OLD isn't meant to be successful anyways. I love Chris and his content but this claim seemed very interesting to me so researching it I couldn’t find any actual data supporting it. There is a Bumble height filter data from 2022 that supports the claim, but none on Hinge it seems. Moreover the option filtering by height on Hinge seems to be available only to premium users, which I assume most people aren’t. So wanted to ask if there is any data actually on Hinge or current that would provide more clarity to the claim. I want to discuss it with my friends but need to verify it first.

But unfortunately many men that are short lack confidence and blame women for not dating them due to height but in reality if they are successful and confident women will find them much more attractive even if they like taller men. I think women are more turned off by short men because of their short man syndrome much more so than the short height of men. Plus the women that have say a set minimum height of 5'10" that is their preference and this is their right to have this preference. This 5'10" preference really isn't that high of a standard anyway because I often feel shorter than most men in the USA at 5'9" especially if the population is heavily white or black. Read on a short men's clothing website that 25% of men in the USA is 5'8" or shorter and this is for all men in the USA and this percentage is lower in my experience when the population is largely white and black men. Went I went to Europe, especially in northern Europe, I felt like a midget walking around in the general population and it felt like the 5'9" and under population of men was less than 10% or probably less than 5% in the Netherlands, northern Germany, and Denmark when I was there on vacation in the summer of 2015.

First of all, you can’t even set a height preference on Hinge unless you’re paying for premium, which the vast majority of people are not doing. So at best this information is misleading, and at worst (as I suspect) it’s probably completely false
Let's be honest, a woman doesn't know what they want until they see it. As much as height matters, looks do matter, weight matters, confidence matters, money matters, etc. If you excel in one of these, you will be surprised to realize how much of a chance you have. Looks and height might be the easiest to show off, then money and confidence, and whatever else. Just have to find that one quality that sets you apart and find a way for them to see that mastery of yours.
