I’m reading the book now! I like how you address in this video how one could potentially transition to other levels but that you don’t have to do that. I’m relatively new to Keto but am feeling so much better I can’t see myself ever wanting to go over 20 total carbs except for rare occasions. And to me, this sounds like this is how people used to eat in the past - mind glowingly simple. Thanks My Favorite Doc! Thanks Glen!

For me this way of talking about carbs doesn't ring true. It is treating eating carbs as a rational subject, that we can just tweak carbs the way I do my coffee grinder. If I was able to treat carbs that way I would already be someone who can carry a normal body fat level while eating carbs. Super low carb works for me because I'm addicted, it is easier for me to eat no carbs than some carbs. Half a banana or less? I can eat no bananas, or I can eat one banana, plus some bread and jam to got with it. If you look at people who naturally carry a lot of body fat, I think my situation is more the norm than someone who can think rationally about carbs. Plus for me, super low carbs, combined with IF(In my case OMAD), feels so good I would be loath to give it up. It literally feels like a super power.

To determine carb tolerance, when we eat our target amount of carbs, should we be monitoring blood glucose as a diabetic might? From the data, we can determine max carb intake to keep peak blood glucose or fasting blood glucose under target limit.

My biggest criticism of the book is the phases table. It basically says that only super active people who have never been overweight can ever be phase 3. I was morbidly obese but never metabolically unhealthy. I'm just a chronic over eater. I lost all the weight using an under 20 net approach and now am comfortably eating 150 total carbs with no issues and am maintaining my weight loss. I feel like you need to give some wiggle room for phase 3. It feels depressing that if you've ever been fat you can't eat carbs ever again.

Dr Westman can I ask if you think eating Keto long term makes you more sensitive to eating carbs in the future? The reason I ask this is after around 2 years of eating Keto I went back to eating carbs for a time and the weight piled on really really quickly, it was as if my body had grown overly sensitive to carbs, what are your thoughts on this? Thank you.
