    When Geno has time in the pocket he makes some absolutely stunning plays. He gets way more hate than he deserves, because you're absolutely right - he's one of the only reasons this offense is functioning at all.
    Thanks for breaking it down, great video!

    Good video. I have never been a Geno hater, in fact, I see a QB who be considered one of the premier QBs in the league, if only he had an "O" line that could give him more than 2.5 seconds to throw the ball, and I fear that Geno's career will end tragically, as someone who never had the opportunity to showcase just how talented he is. The blame for that is on the coaches and John Schneider if that happens. I mean, at 34, how many good years does Geno really have left.

    • @The_Legion_of_12s
      @The_Legion_of_12s  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for you're comment. I couldn't agree more. I will say kind of one of my quieter takes is that Geno could easily play into his early 40s. Yes he is 34, but he has only taken 4 years of NFL tear and wear as he was mostly a backup. That is a very unique situation as we'll get to see an interesting case study of how much of regression is age vs. taking too many hits.
      Geno has a wildly strong arm and he is really fast (just look at his scrambles). If he loses 5 to 10% of that, I don't think that will mean he will regress quickly, particularly as his decision making improves by seeing more defenses. He's been fairly good at not taking injuries and I think he could be the franchise qb for another 3-4 years comfortably and potentially even more.

      Yeah I should've brought that up. Jordan Love, who also has 10 picks has almost half as many attempts as Geno. The hawks ask Geno to be superman every single game and he's done it enough to get them to 4-5. If he had a run game and some pass protection this offense would be deadly.

    Hey Legion how do you feel about doing a film breakdown on Trevor Lawrence. I think hes in a Similar situation to Geno. Being blamed for bad schemes and badly coached team

    • @The_Legion_of_12s
      @The_Legion_of_12s  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I truly wish that I had more time and could do film breakdowns like that because I think that looking at other struggling qbs and comparing them to geno would be fascinating. At the end of the day, this is a Seahawks focused channel and unfortunately i don't think that would be a very popular video for this audience.
      But I did just go watch a couple of Lawrance games just for fun so I thought I'd give you my thoughts. :)
      The similarities are pretty strong. Both have basically no run game, operate in spread offenses, and for both of them it seems like they need to be making big throws just to move the offense. I saw a bunch of great throws from Tlaw and that's what Geno gives you too. Geno is held back by his offensive line and Tlaw has his receiver problems.
      I think the biggest difference is that I saw multiple unforced errors from Lawrance. I watched the Packers and Colts game and in each he had a really ugly, what the heck were you seeing there, type pick. As I went through in this video, Geno really isn't making those mistakes. I think that's the biggest difference between the two and is why i think Geno has been playing at a much higher level than Tlaw but I'm with you if the Jags could get a semblance of a running game and some better weapons for Lawrance a lot of these "Trevor Lawrance" problems would instantly be solved.
      End of the day, I agree they're both getting too much hate for the shortcomings of the rest of the offense and coaching.

  • @jakejito2123
    @jakejito2123 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    He’s not a stone cold killer. His will can be broken. His focus can be lost too easily when it matters most. He honestly looked like he was going to cry on the sideline 2 weeks ago. He’s too flappable to be a true franchise QB. They are rare for a reason. It’s not just about talent. He simply doesn’t quite have “it”. If you know what “it” is, then you know “it” cannot be seen in a highlight reel….
    I’ve been a big Geno supporter. I’ve been impressed by his arm talent and pocket presence in almost every game since he took over. I was in support of keeping him as our starter this year from day 1. I also like him as a person, and the way he typically conducts himself. So, you told me nothing in this video that I didn’t already know. All that being said, I am now convinced that Geno is not the one, and I hope the Seahawks move on from him very soon…
    He’ll have to play MVP level ball from here on out to convince me otherwise, especially against our division opponents. We need to win the division, and Geno has been bad in our two division games so far this year. The rams loss was almost completely his fault imo. Seahawks fans are freaking done getting smacked in the division. If Geno doesn’t absolutely ball out in the remaining 4 division games, then he needs to GTFO!

      This was a well reasoned opinion and I respect that. Lots of good points and I appreciate the thought that you put into this. I will say that i personally think that Geno played really well against the rams (again I don't put those 3 picks on him, maybe partial blame on the pick 6 but overall he threw the ball really well and made that offense functional).

    Great video! On another utube channel, someone commented, "RW ran around for years because of a terrible Oline and came up with wins." 🤯🤪 That comment is missing the big picture! No QB should have to scramble around just to get wins!
    Geezee and RW are too different animals. Geezee is a natural pocket passer with pure accuracy and capabilities to scramble. RW had natural scramble abilities with limited pocket passing skills. (I think mainly because of his height)
    If our Oline even started to play good or decent, I believe we would see a difference in Geezee's performance. I would be jabbing ptsd out there with that Oline. So I get it, Geezee's going to have some bad moments. I'm sure we all at some point in our lives had a "split second" situation that we have tried strongly to avoid, but it ended up happening anyway. Well, that's Geezee in a 3 hours window on that field. 3 HOURS of "should I or shouldn't I" with a $hitty Oline! So come on haters, cut this man some slack. He's doing the best he can with what he has!🎯 ✅️💯

      I know fixing and entire offensive line isn't really reasonable for just one offseason but man I would love to see what Geno looks like behind even just a mediocre offensive line.

      Maybe. Full rebuilds suck and I think this team has too many good young pieces (Woolen, Witherspoon, Hall, Mafe, Cross, JSN, Bobo, K9 etc.) for a full rebuild. I'd like to see the hawks fix the offensive line in 2025 and then if it doesn't work out then you look to move on but drafting a qb into this offensive line would just be throwing away draft picks.

    • @gameboyn64
      @gameboyn64 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @The_Legion_of_12s the problem i see is a whole bunch of contracts on key players will be ending soon. It really felt like this year and next year was supposed to be our window. Now it looks like our window is being pushed back a couple of years by which a lot of players are going to be either paid or gone.

    • @The_Legion_of_12s
      @The_Legion_of_12s  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can totally see where you are coming from. I don't think the window is a strict as that might make it seem. Sure the hawks are going to have to start paying their young talent soon, but I think 2025 and 2026 might be the best window that the hawks have. The cap implications are not too bad when you first pay your players so I don't think the hawks are going to be hurting for cash for a while. Like Charles Cross is probably going to get a $25M+ per year contract this offseason but it it is 4 years $110 that will only start after his final year of rookie deal (2025) and his fifth year option (2026).

      That's totally fair. I think that Geno has been top 7 this year (I think only Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Lamar and Daniels have been better this year) but yeah having a young franchise quarterback is fun and gives the franchise a lot of direction.
      I will say I don't know how easy it is going to be to go get one of those guys. If you want to draft a guy, I don't think that this year's draft will have enough depth or guys that you want so maybe 2026 would be a better time to take the swing.

They had similar pressure stats but Russ always had the highest time to throw in the league while Geno has had one of the lowest. Bradford, Tomlinson and whoever is playing RT have been some of the worst at their positions and Geno has them making up a majority of this offensive line. So yeah I don't want anyone other than Geno in there mostly for their sake.

If the hawks could get 1 yard on 2 plays against the rams in overtime they probably would've won that game. But at some point playing well while losing won't be good enough.

      Maybe. It think that this offensive line could be "fixed" faster than you might think. If you could sign some decent starters to play guard and get Abe Lucas back this could creep towards average pretty quickly. If everything goes right this offensive line could be good enough next year.
      Also, I know Geno is 35 but his body has really only taken 4 years of NFL wear and tear. That is a really unique situation and I with how athletic he is and his amazing arm talent, I do think that he could easily play into his 40s.

      Oh I agree. There are all sorts of problems that the hawks have but I don’t think Geno is a problem I think he’s actually been one of the best players on the team

    We put too much weight on Geno's shoulders week in and week out. We need to get him some more help and he could be our qb for at least another 4-5 years.

      100%. Even Mahomes and Allen aren’t asked to do as much as he is because putting everything on your qb is not a recipe for consistent success. That’s gotta change for the hawks to be a great team.

      He helps compensate but if he just had average pass protection then the entire unit would be so much more consistent. This offense could be elite if they just had an average unit there

    The Seahawks have put all their money into defense. Why not protect your QB ? That’s been the downfall of Seahawks football for years. No protection for QB.

      I agree that Schneider needs to focus more on the oline but I will say that in the Russ years a lot of the pressure was on him. He would hold the ball for the most time in the league. Geno is different. He gets the ball out at one of the faster rates in the league and is still pressured way too much. The last few years have been much worse than years past and this year has been easily one of the worst in hawks history.

    Geno is our best player easily. People just see a QB throw some INTs and get sacked and instantly blame him for it, and refuse to ask “why is this happening”

    Your entire premise is false, at least where I’m concerned. I haven’t celebrated Geno’s poor performances. I’ve been realistic about his attributes as a team leader, multi-millionaire and public figure. Quarterback is an alpha position. This is the person everyone looks up to. It demands a level of professionalism that few can aspire to. Geno has a tremendous body for that position. 6’ 3” tall; a slender but fast-twitch muscular system; good to great arm and the ability to scramble when necessary. But Geno, like me, is a bit of head case. Nothing wrong with that! Unless you’re leading a team. Yes his line has failed him which is to be expected in a new system with injured players. But to lead this line to its maximum value, Geno needs to be assertive. Needs to risk saying things that will make his teammates angry. He doesn’t have that. He’s a people pleaser. He could catch fire if the defense rises to the Mike MacDonald standard. I could say many of the same things about his predecessor Russell Wilson. The difference is, despite his shortcomings, Wilson was and is a pure alpha dog. He fights. He doesn’t sit passively on the bench for seven years accepting his fate. He wouldn’t. Hope the best for him as I do for you and anyone.

      Interesting take that I haven't heard anywhere else! I'm not going to completely push back because I do think you make some interesting points but I just don't know if that is how Geno is received in the locker room. Football is a weird atmosphere and so I think what we might see as a people pleaser or a "bit of a head case" might just be the football culture. I haven't heard anything but good things about Geno as a leader in that locker room. Maybe that's false and they're hiding it well but we just don't know that. I also don't think that he "sat passively on the bench for seven years." Based on how he completely reinvented his game during that time I think that was anything but passive.
      I hope the best for him to and I think in a few years we will see if your leadership comments are true. Interesting point to watch for sure and thanks for the comment!

      @ My ramblings are rarely met with such a dignified response 😂 Thank you! A bit of background might help. But before I give it let me say that beta, head cases like me can rise to certain challenges and they can become the best players at their positions. Leonard Williams, our defensive lineman is a great example. He’s as ethereal as it gets and he’s excellent! And he’s loved. I have no doubt that Geno is loved by his teammates. How can anyone not love and respect him? That noted, the cause might be back in New York where Geno’s season was cut short by a teammate breaking his jaw in a dispute of some kind. Events like that are traumatizing and stay with us for the rest of our lives. They also stigmatize our reputation and travel from one venue to the next. I don’t think he’s ever gotten over it. Even his famous quote is passive: “They wrote me off but I never wrote back. Geno needs to write his story and I hope it has an ecstatic ending in the next Super Bowl. And it could! If he starts writing and fighting back! Love you Geno!

      Odd that he led the NFL in game-winning drives last year as such a "head case." That's bologna.

    • @IntraVortex
      @IntraVortex 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ I believe he leads this year with 5. Unfortunately for your premise his game winning drives are, for the most part, against sub-par teams. Additionally, in his entire career he’s only gotten one team to the playoffs - ours and is 0 - 1.

      This was what I came here to say. I’ve always felt that his leadership was lacking. Don’t confuse leadership with focus, talent, or intelligence. His players don’t seem to have that “That’s my quarterback” type mentality. Is hard to see what happens, but from what I see on the sidelines, it’s a bit ho-hum.

    If someone wants to reveal how little they know about football on the most basic level, they will lean into blaming a remarkable player like Geno Smith. While it’s hard to completely ignore the over emotionalised ignorance it’s really the only logical way to deal with it. Confronting ignorance is always going to go badly because ignorance is usually accompanied by a sense of entitlement that is as delusional as the uninformed opinion itself. Go Hawks✌️

    He's has not been great. He has around 13 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. Not to mention 4 to 6 throws that could had been interceptions. It's not all his fault. Offensive line and Offensive coordinator and geno and recievers, but he's not blameless. People will point to yards. I don't trust that stat alone.

    • @The_Legion_of_12s
      @The_Legion_of_12s  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't trust yards either (it's kind of a crap stat because it has more to do with game situation and attempts not QB skill). But as I broke down, the 10 picks he has thrown so far this year are really not on him. PFF has him with a low turnover worthy play percentage (he's 9th best at protecting the football) and a high big time throw percentage.
      At the end of the day, there is a very short list (Mahomes, Burrow, Lamar, Allen, Herbert,) that I think would do a better job here. TD to INT ratio is not a good stat to judge a quarterback on. I really think the tape shows the story of a great quarterback being asked to do way too much. Mahomes and Allen have been able to step back from being superman all the time and I think if the hawks build the infrastructure around Geno, then we'll see him flourish in a functional offense.
