100%. Basically the two things that he needs for his defense to work is a lockdown press man corner (Woolen) and a slot corner who is basically a linebacker and an elite coverage player (Spoon). Those two pieces are just perfect for this scheme so we'll have to see how everything builds around them but I'm stoked for Spoon and Woolen.
@mr.lucaln7097 The Ravens had the best defense NFL, only gave up 30+ twice and had an average points allowed of under 17 per game. The Rams had a good game plan but I think that Mike Macdonald will bounce back and have a better game plan.
From a calling coverages perspective I totally agree. I think Pete Carroll was one of the best at teaching these young corners the ins and outs of the position (Sherman and Riq breaking out as 5th round guys in year one comes to mind). The technical coaching might take a step back, which isn't super important because I think Riq has really great technique, but Macdonald will be deploying him in a much more productive way which I can't wait for.
great video as usual, i have a few thoughts that come to mind: 1. i think riq’s “struggles” against in-breaking routes can b mitigated in coach mike’s new defense since his corners dont allow as much space or have them dropping back to cover nothing 2. look at jamal dropping down to cover nothing at 1:52 lol. watching last year’s scheme brings me so much pain. 3. when we go nickel, who’s the 2nd outside corner? i give the edge to mike jack at this point in time. also can we get a jarran reed appreciation video next or in the near future?
Cover nothing? Bro not only can you see the TE on the delayed release but the video LITERALLY MENTIONS THAT FACT...he specifically says Jamal rotates down to cover the TE. Adams isn't even on the team anymore and ya'll still go out of your way to incorrectly hate on him. It's really fucking annoying. If you're going to critique at least be correct because if not you sound stupid and remove yourself from serious consideration.
1. I agree to some extent. On the whole Mike Macdonald does promote a tighter coverage but there will still be some situations where he wants his corners to back off and let the routes come to them. It should be mostly fixed but without scheme changes he will still ask Riq to do this occasionally. 2. He was really mirroring the tight end and howell got the ball out pretty fast but yeah.... :) 3. I think it will probably be Tre Brown. He has popped a couple of times while watching the tape - more than Mike Jackson. But I also think that Jackson, Nehemiah Pritchett and DJ James will get a fair shot or maybe be in a rotation. Good grief we have so many corners. I love the idea of a Jarran Reed video! He was honestly maybe the best signing the hawks made last year or maybe in the last few years. Instant quality starter on a backup level contract. Thanks for watching and your thoughtful comments!
Yeah I think he just got unlucky because Sauce is still imo a better player, but he should've come in second for sure. Hopefully Byron Murphy can bring home the DROY to Seattle after getting disrespected the last two years.
@@The_Legion_of_12sbut sauce didn’t really have much better of a year than woolen tho a lot of people mentioned his pbu’s and coverage as the reason he won when woolen had similar stats and I wouldn’t say just as good but close to it and then you take into account the ints I guess and he’s leading the league in interceptions as a rookie like you said picks are a luck based stat sometimes you do have to cover good to get picks half the time atleast
Riq should’ve been in definite consideration for DROY, he lead the league with 6 INT’s as a rookie! But of course east coast bias was in full effect…Then the following year Spoon imo should have won DROY, or been in consideration! Now that the Seahawks got screwed 2 years in a row, hopefully Byron Murphy II can have such a phenomenal rookie season, that the NFL will have no choice but to name him DROY. I’m not saying that he’s going to become the next Aaron Donald, but they are built similarly! Both around 6’-6’1, 300lbs+, and both generate a lot of their power from their massive lower body, straight tree trunks for leg’s! I think Murphy is going to be an All-Pro/Pro bowl player for a long time! Combine that with a certified defensive genius in coach Mac, Seattle should not be a bottom of the league defense any longer! Seattle was basically dead last or close in almost every defensive category, minus sacks last season, that’s going to change! The Seahawks have a lot of talent on defense, MacDonald just has to find a way to bring it all together! Stay consistent, make open field tackles, get pressure on the QB, play together as a team, and play hard every single snap, period! Obviously our offense is also very talented! We’ve got 1 of the best WR’er trios in the league! We’ve got 2 2nd round RB’s in K-9 & Charbonnet (lighting & thunder!) Walker can break it at any given the time, and if he gets to the 2nd level, nobody is catching him! Charbonnet, is 6’2, 215lbs and has a 4.5 40 time. He’s also got great hands as well. Walker is 5’9 209lbs with 4.3 speed! He rushed for over 1,000 yards his rookie year, got 905 yards last season (which if our offensive line wasn’t struggling through injuries all year, there’s no doubt he would’ve rushed for 1,000 last season! Walker should rush for more than 1,000 in 2024. And I expect Charbonnet to have a great year as well!
Absolutely. I was really not expecting to see such a great coverage player but I really think that when he is in a press alignment he is one of the best in the league. He needs to improve that tackling, I agree, but if that comes the hawks might have a duo of elite corners.
Yeah Woolen has been a fun watch his whole career! I use CapCut Desktop to edit all of my videos. The motion tracking is manual (they have some automatic but it doesn’t work for my film) but it’s not too hard to put in 10 key frames and then it smooths it out. Takes ~60 seconds per shot. If you’re looking for a new editor for your podcast I couldn’t recommend CapCut enough. Easy to use and powerful. Tons of preset effects and stickers (like the one i use) so it’s pretty seamless and easy. Let me know if you have any other questions!
thank u I actually just fully committed myself to CapCut . I was using iMovie and VN even learned some Adobe. Haven’t explored CapCut as thoroughly as I wanted but will. Absolutely he could get all-pro nods in the future. Honestly if he fixes his tackling so that it is not an embarrassing weakness and gets lucky with a bunch of picks he could get that starting this year. I don't think that All-pro is a great way to judge success (it's better than pro bowl selections but still). But I think he could be a top 10 or top 5 corner in a few years if he is able to clean up his game a little bit.
Yeah I didn’t mention that because I really don’t know what happened there. Maybe it was a matchup thing or an injury thing or something else but overall he played really well last year and didn’t deserve to get benched based on his play.
Umm yes he did have a sophomore slump he got burned more than he didn't. Mr Flash look alike suddenly was running in mud. I was disappointed but hopefully he can return better this season. You don't have to get a ton of INT's to be a lockdown corner.
I think they were pretty similar tbh. Our expectations changed quite a bit after he was so good in his rookie year. The hawks put a lot on him, almost always leaving him without any help. I think he has performed pretty well over the past two years and if he can figure out the tackling a little bit he could be a huge weapon for Macdonald.
But a cb should not have to tackle well he supposed to slow them down so the line backers and safety's can get him and tackle him plus we don't have pete carrol anymore he values tackling more then mike MacDonald
I agree for most of the time. There’s still some spots where you need to be able to wrap up but it is certainly isn’t super important. He does need better coaching because last year he was just diving wildly and not slowing anyone down.
This Macdonald defense is gonna be SCARY for opposing OC's

He was solid in coverage maybe not 2022 good but very solid. Could not tackle for his life though but maybe due to the injury.
Yeah I didn't mention his injury because I just don't have enough information on that but I think it is pretty likely that it affected his tackling.
Riq still a beast

Another note he did have a messed up shoulder for majority of the season and trying to tackle with basically one shoulder is as hard as it gets.
That's true. I don't really have a ton of information on how much that impacted him so that was why I didn't talk about it but that is true.
