      Restoration Scrap Some people just like being critical for no good reason. Or they think ‘Why isn’t he wearing steel-toed boots and goggles? Or, ‘Why didn’t he test for lead in the paint?’. Sometimes they are applying their own expectations and standards to how other people do things, and sometimes those expectations and standards are unrealistic’. Keep going, but keep safe while you’re doing it.

      Cause you didn´t prelube the pistons or used a steel instead of rubber mallet or let sealant get into the cylinder. I dind´t dislike but I think this partially inaccurate work led people to dislike your video.

      you do good work man. I would use a much heavier gage power cord though. I think a lot of people that dislike videos are just ignorant douchebags, don't let them get to you.

    Good job overall. But for your own safety, please check the air reservoir internally for corrosion - if it has, then replace it.
    Also, you will benefit a lot by using freeze spray and also a polyurethane mallot to fit bearings onto the crankshaft - not only a lighter job but also preventing damages to all parts.

      If you don't hydrostat it to at least 400 PSI DON'T PUT ANY AIR IN IT. It's not that hard to do. If you don't care about yourself and your people give the kids that walk down the street in front of your shop a break.

    Should have pre lubed the engine parts. Matched, marked the piston direction to the rods and heads. Rubber mallet with a wood block instead of beating with a metal hammer. Wrap the shaft also before putting in a vise or use soft jaws to prevent damage. Would be nice if you could sand blast parts first. Good job though. Lots of work. Keep it up.

    And, (sorry for the 2nd comment, .. I ran an auto, truck & marine electrical repair shop for a few years..) especially after cleaning with a solvent, re-insulate the stator windings with ..at least a spray lacquer. There is also an armature / stator spray insulator spray ( I think Krylon..) .. available in red or clear.. that is tested to over 200 degrees C

    Over the years I have watched quite a few restoration videos of all sorts of everything here on TH-cam. I am truly impressed with the workmanship that has gone into the restoration of this compressor. It looks as good as new, complete with all the important stickers including the brand sticker. Well done Restoration Scrap, keep the restoration videos coming.

    A good and enjoyable video just a couple of comments though, it's not a good idea to hammer the web of the crankshaft to remove bearings. Make yourself some soft jaws for your vice as you are risking damaging the journals of the crankshaft in the vice, Use any thin scrap metal you have or a couple of pieces of rubber will do. Good luck for the future you deserve it

  • @stebro2738
    @stebro2738 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your skill is very good.. nice work!! But please leave the copper finned tuning connecting the 2 cylinders naked!!.. NO paint.. It is finned for heat dissipation.. to get rid of heat created by the compressed air in the 1st stage of the compressor. Paint just insulates the tube and it can't get rid of that heat. Otherwise, very good work.

    Well done dude... Seems like hai phong or Hanoi in Vietnam... I would maybe use rubber mallets on pieces of the engine. It was hard to watch that part... Otherwise great job. Sure through TH-cam I took apart my whole lawnmower bridges Stratton and fixed an oil leak in the engine. It's thanks to channels like this that we realise it is possible, you just need patience and be meticulous in your organisation of what you take apart

    You do a great job on your videos. I did see an error. When you were putting the bearings on the crankshaft you were poundind them on with a hammer. You should not do that. Crankshafts are harmonically balanced when you hit them with a hammer it will crack the weights on the crankshaft a put it out of balance and the crack could be very tiny.. You are setting it up to fail at a later time. Doing it correctly you need to have a bearing presser. It is almost like a bearing puller.

    "If there are any errors in the video please let us know." There are a few mistakes. 1) NEVER hammer bearings or the crankshaft! To get the bearings off: heat them up a little. To get the bearings on: again heat them up, or put the crankshaft in a freezer. 2) Gaskets & sealant: it's a common mistake to use both. It's either one or the other (the cylinder base probably needs a gasket, otherwise the cylinder will sit too low/the piston will go too high). And: never use two gaskets, you increase the distance and lose compression. 3) Be more gentle, take your time. Use plastic or wood on metal much more.
