MPM Starscream was produced for the same market as this guy and was released at the same price with no compromises. Your arguments just simply don't add up
Just wanted to say thank you for your review. I watch a lot of your stuff and enjoy your content. You helped paint this thing in a better light for me after so much negativity and I finally picked one up yesterday at one of my local comic/collectibles store. Gotta say, I’m glad I did. Like yeah, the truck mode isn’t that good, but it’s serviceable. I’ve seen worse. Bot mode however is amazing. I do wish he had thigh swivels and the fingers had more joints, but aside from that, I’m happy I wound up getting it.
I understand your smartphone analogy, but the way I see it is that the figure is in the "Movie Masterpiece" toy line, therefore I expect movie figures that are masterpieces. If it wasn't in the masterpiece line, then I would be more willing to impulsively buy it if I saw it on a store shelf.
I like the dna design upgrade but I gotta admit, the only thing I like it about this figure its the perfect scale he does with transcraft bee (and the legs extender tottaly destroys that) but maybe the knee joint in mpm12 can be replaced with the double jointed knees of dna design.
I can really look past the criticisms on this guy and really say, I like him a lot. And with the dna design kit coming next year id say he's better than toy world imo, mostly because of price, sturdyness, and transformation.
I've never gotten a Masterpiece figure before, but with how you talk about this it seems like they focused on making it a fun toy to play with. I hear almost nothing but horror stories about MP and third-party MP-style figures transformations, which puts me off the idea of ever getting one because I collect Transformers to transform them XD
@@JM64 Yeah but most toys at least try to disguise it. Here you can clearly see the back of the truck is just a pair of legs and a waist sticking out. Some good exeptions include Wei Jiang COMMANDO Evasion Mode Prime, Aoyi Mech Star Knight, and MP-44. (albeit at the cost of a more complex transformation)
I probably wouldn't get this because the masterpiece line isn't for me and plus if its 170 dollars compared to the 30 dollar studio series version its not worth it to me
Look, I get the limitations and blah blah blah but why are they emulating the Marmon instead of the FLA-96? Why not fill the gaps? Why not paint the stripe one color? Why not put a single peg inside the windows so the hands don't flop around in robot mode? It's MPM not an SS figure, MP Starscream and others have done things much more complex and they hold up, why can't this one?
In my opinion Jazz was the peak of the MPM line in almost every aspect, i had hopes that Hasbro finally learn to do MPM figures but everything went downhill.
Talks about price and why it looks bad Me:* points to black mamba upscale studio series version that fixed all the problems * They had the files and everything if they wanted to go cheaper they could literally just have done what black mamba did and it would be cheaper then this by a long shot Sorry but this just screams to me lazy work for more money and just because its a new mold its expose to be more expensive when they didn't need to do it thats why I personally just hate the idea of this figure
The thing with selling a toy is the price also includes the marketing, distribution, paying fair wages to the designers, managing the supply chain, etc. Stuff that black Mamba doesn't have to deal with. And to keep the price of it moderately low they have to cut some corners. If you don't like it still then that's ok. Just something I want people to see when they look at the price and how a toy is made.
@@ThatToyGuy except they already had the mold so it would have bean more cost effective and could probably sell more quantities of the mold since it would have bean cheaper to make since they were already using a previous mold plus they already done what I have said with there first mpm movie optimus being based of the learder class toy with some changes that seem to have worked really well so I can't see why they couldn't have done the same It just feels like an unnecessary lazy job for a figure thats practically worse then the studio series version It also doesn't help that there were upgrade kits basically already ready that made small tweaks that made it a lot better this felt more like an after thought something they did while they were board while working on the other products I can understand why people would like this figure but every direction of it when thinking about just feels off to me Sorry about the rant and I still do enjoy the vids just felt like it was something that needed to be talked about

So I wasn’t going to get this figure even despite this review. But I went to a convention recently and found him there and bought it for $90 USD. Figured it was just too good a deal to pass up. And honestly I have no regrets. For what I payed I think this figure is great. The robot mode is an incredible recreation of the character seen in the film. The truck mode…well it’s not great but it does look a lot better in person than it does in photos. The cat ears honestly don’t stick out so much in hand. What really bothers me is that the back of the truck is so long and those shins are terrible. Still the truck mode feels more like a cool bonus feature on a high end figure than anything. I would not pay full price for this guy but if you can find him for a bit lower I’d absolutely recommend it.
I- i- I can't agree with the statement of there trying to go cheaper. Its sti 150 dollars, it still has the MASTER PIECE name, and they still have the cheaper studio series version. Idk that's my opinion
Keep in mind they work in collaboration with Takara on this so they cost a lot to make for them. Ergo the price is gonna be a bit high. And the cost of manufacturing, shipping, supply, materials has all gone up in the last 3 years
one thing i hated when this figure got announced was too many people were comparing to the third party market Bee-movie primes but they forget the fact that third party can do what it does because they dont have to abide by normal toy manufacturing laws and stuff and in toy design theirs a reason for every choice whether it be price, art style, ingenuity whatever but third party companies dont have to follow those same laws so they can make the transformations more complex so they can make the figure look better
Obviously it’s not completely fair to compare it to third party figures but even in comparison to his studio series figure this is far from masterpiece level engineering. I mean do you expect me to believe the same people that made MP beast wars Megatron made this figure?

MP-44/49 is an order of magnitude more complicated than the MPM toys hence the price difference. In fact I picked up MPM 12 for £50 and have seen it elsewhere e.g. in Singapore for around the £50 to £60 price after currency conversion.

Where did you get the upscaled cyberverse Megatron for tfp Megatron could you please add a link because I can't find him anywhere nor can I find the APC figure
"this is the budget version" doesn't make any sense since the studio series one is meant to be the budget version and it makes less sense since there isn't a premium version of this figure that is better and comparing it to a figure from a separate line that is meant to be a completely separate design doesn't help either since its not the same figure nor is it the same design hell its not even the same toyline

Decided to watch this after learning that MPM-12 is being reissued. (Releasing September this year in my country) I've never collected any MP-style Transformers before, and from what I've seen here, this figure looks like it could be a good starting point.
This figure would be great if it weren't for the existence of the Aoyi Mech LS13 Star Knight, which is an upscale and retool of the studio series toy. It costs $50 less, has a WAY nicer truck mode, and even has electronic features. If you want an affordable Masterpiece Knightverse Prime, save your money and just get that instead. Makes this toy look like crap in comparison.
Got this guy for $80 and brought an upgrade kit for $60. For me, an Optimus figure without a matrix of leadership that can store in his chest is a deal breaker. Thr 3rd party ones look great, but this one just mooks more fun to play around with. Also way cheaper.
Similarly, on a flipped around tangent, MPM4 would be the midranger, the old HftD Voyager class mold would be the high-end of the budget area, SS05/SS32/SS44 would be the low-end budget, and I believe the RotF Leader class mold is the flagship. Why? MPM4 has some breakage issues (those ankles, possibly the waist) that are so lousy, they even carry over to the various KOs.
The ears just look like smoke stack reinforcement for going into battle it’s cool for a futuristic meets earth truck. Nothing to hate about it it’s a good fun solid toy. Perfection

MP-44 is targeted to collector thus holds the high price and the should and always have been the purpose of the line "Masterpiece"
well he do look good but the part of none moving butt flap is kinda easy to understand since alot of people including myseft dont move the leg back that much and for a MG it not really a requirement and alot of those kit have it have alot of solidity issues since alot of them either fall off or really loose(at least my copy is)and some PC(policap)based have alot of solidity issues since over time the PC is stressed and dont hold the pose anymore so less moving part on the kit give us less headache and i dont like gluing stuff(mostly kit with changing part like barbatos all armour pack)
This figure was sold to me for £260 At forbidden planet London, beware their sky rocketed prices and they unbox everything so nothing is factory sealed unfortunately
I got the cat ear upgrade kit but the hands are the only thing that REALLY bother me. Like why would they make them so shit? A little nitpick is is wheels being so tiny. Real trucks have sizable tires.
Honestly my biggest problem with it is that the head looks like it's been squished, like someone missed a decimal point, also his shins don't bother me as much, but i still don't like how squished they appear.... Basically everything seems more squished than it should, but overall it is ok, I'm just not getting it

Besides, it takes time for Third party companies to make masterpiece Transformer products. It took time for ToyWorld to release their Optimus, and it took time for FansToys to release their Acoustic Wave figure.
MPM Starscream was produced for the same market as this guy and was released at the same price with no compromises. Your arguments just simply don't add up
Honestly I love this figure I don't really care what is wrong with it.
I got this figure the second I found it at Toys R Us (which is an exclusively Canadian store now)
Just wanted to say thank you for your review.
I hear almost nothing but horror stories about MP and third-party MP-style figures transformations, which puts me off the idea of ever getting one because I collect Transformers to transform them XD
>hardly has any kibble in both modes
>vehicle mode is made of 30% robot kibble
That's literally every Prime ever.
The back of the truck is always obviously his legs, every mold ever, no exceptions that has been the case
I just think this figure seems like a pretty good old leader class figure
This is almost 16 minutes worth of copium, but I'm still happy for you. Great vid.
I probably wouldn't get this because the masterpiece line isn't for me and plus if its 170 dollars compared to the 30 dollar studio series version its not worth it to me
not sure why i put 30 dollars, its really 40 - 60 nowadays, my brain is juts not functioning today
The only thing stopping me from buying this is that the wheels are to far back but dang this figure does it right everywhere else
The part about including the matrix reminded me of the time I made actual transforming Optimus prime out of literal paper and even that had the matrix
13:31 i love that shot of all 3 of them, i got to get mpm-12 at some point as well :)
Talks about price and why it looks bad
Me:* points to black mamba upscale studio series version that fixed all the problems *
They had the files and everything if they wanted to go cheaper they could literally just have done what black mamba did and it would be cheaper then this by a long shot
Sorry but this just screams to me lazy work for more money and just because its a new mold its expose to be more expensive when they didn't need to do it thats why I personally just hate the idea of this figure
@@ThatToyGuy except they already had the mold so it would have bean more cost effective and could probably sell more quantities of the mold since it would have bean cheaper to make since they were already using a previous mold plus they already done what I have said with there first mpm movie optimus being based of the learder class toy with some changes that seem to have worked really well so I can't see why they couldn't have done the same
It just feels like an unnecessary lazy job for a figure thats practically worse then the studio series version
It also doesn't help that there were upgrade kits basically already ready that made small tweaks that made it a lot better this felt more like an after thought something they did while they were board while working on the other products
I can understand why people would like this figure but every direction of it when thinking about just feels off to me
Sorry about the rant and I still do enjoy the vids just felt like it was something that needed to be talked about
the cat ears are quite off putting for a Optimus truck. That's that. I got a kit from ebay to fix it. And it was such a simple fix. "More of a budget" can't excuse it. Anywho, other then that and the gap in his wrists. I like the figure I'm glad I saw him at Target with my discount ready. To make up for buying kit :P
I miss when a masterpiece was actually a "masterpiece”
And the cost of manufacturing, shipping, supply, materials has all gone up in the last 3 years
@Gundam sandrock Keep in mind 3rd party companies don't have shareholders and CEO's they have to bend over to
one thing i hated when this figure got announced was too many people were comparing to the third party market Bee-movie primes but they forget the fact that third party can do what it does because they dont have to abide by normal toy manufacturing laws and stuff and in toy design theirs a reason for every choice whether it be price, art style, ingenuity whatever but third party companies dont have to follow those same laws so they can make the transformations more complex so they can make the figure look better
Obviously it’s not completely fair to compare it to third party figures but even in comparison to his studio series figure this is far from masterpiece level engineering. I mean do you expect me to believe the same people that made MP beast wars Megatron made this figure?
@@ryanschmidt58 there MPs are made for a more older audience like collectors and stuff when the MPMs are 8+ as you can see on the box and there vary different prices
@@wsmstudio3329 are you seriously basing what engineering should be allowed on figures based off the age rating they put on the box? I can’t name a single person that takes those seriously
@@ryanschmidt58 MP beast wars Megatron may have good engineering but he'll never be worth the $400 CAD stores want for him.
This figure is at least priced sanely.
And if you want better engineering in the MPM line you best start petioning HasTak to take priority away from G1... but that's never gonna happen
MP-44/49 is an order of magnitude more complicated than the MPM toys hence the price difference. In fact I picked up MPM 12 for £50 and have seen it elsewhere e.g. in Singapore for around the £50 to £60 price after currency conversion.
GOOD EXPLANATION.
VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD.
YOU EXPRESS YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS PRODUCT IN A SHORT BRIEF STATEMENT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
i mean like here in new zealand the toy translates to $240+ hell of a price
i like the toy, i dont have it but i really like the toy even though it isn't that accurate, it just has a nice charm
I completly agree with you explanation of design compromises. I tried to produce figures and yes... North american marquet is cheap. People are accustomed to get cheap price figures.
Personally I really do love this figure. The only issues I had were the arms and the cat ears, but they didn't necessarily bother me, it's just the fact that we know they can do better but for the price, I'll accept the little flaws. I mean overall I think it's a great figure. Great review man!
Edit: also I only paid $125 for him at my local Target so I think that's a steal.
Damn that's a good price
Awesome!
Lucky you
Where did you get the upscaled cyberverse Megatron for tfp Megatron could you please add a link because I can't find him anywhere nor can I find the APC figure
You're better off checking Aliexpress because most online shops have him Sold Out.
@@_V.Va_ thanks
Remember when Masterpiece used to be sold separately under Takara versions and Hasbro versions? Yeaaah
Already got it, really love it so much. Sure it's not perfect, but it feels so good ngl
Its sad that £140 is considered cheap for a piece of plastic.
And then, there's LS-13.
Better truck mode, amazing weapon storage, cost almost only half the price.
And the toyworld version (yes overly complicated with bad hands but with good accessories and good solidness)
Idk about the toyworlds solidness. There have been a lot that just kinda fall to buts
Yeah, LS-13's truck mode is great but the overall proportions of the robot mode look kind of weird, like the really small looking legs.
We need an MPM Bumblebee Movie Optimus Prime version 2.0 mold in the works. Same goes for an MPM Peterbilt 379 Optimus Prime version 2.0 mold.
I paid $119 USD from Robotkingdom + shipping to Australia. I'm happy with him because he scales with MP-10 and MPM Prime.
I hate to say this but TFsource has a price higher than the standard MSRP compared to target which is not a fair comparison
if they made an MPM ROTB Optimus that was similar to this but had the necessary fixes & updates, i would consider buying that
Ayy. Don't be making fun of my pixel 4. Just joking man keep up the great content. I'm thinking about getting this figure instead of freedom leader after seeing what happened to emgos freedom leader.
See although I understand that it's a "budget" figure. But at that point don't label it a masterpiece" also upscaling and retooling ss38 would've been better imo
The only thing I personally can`t accept, is that this figure inspired by Studio Series BeeMovie OP, but wasting all greate of SS figure and giving us unfoldable small panels on roof. And I hate not much this horrible kibble, so as much it`s proportions at the back.
I believe in Generations supermacy!!!
This figure shares nothing with the SS one. It's not inspired by SS it's it's own entity. It's not made to copy the SS version at all
@@ThatToyGuy It got SS vibe, with side panels over arm, grill of truck becoming back of the figure, but it's sad, that legs doesn't go anythere.
I understand, that it's all done to decrease a price, but I personally don't want this sacrifices to better looking product, neither cheap figure.
Sad, we can't have an option between cheap and expensive variants, but it's good that I not really fun of MP style and prefer Legends scale :P
@Gundam sandrock You can be a die hard fan and not want to spend $400 on a piece of plastic that still has issues.
Get some sense in your skull
@@nikijimahirasawa6283 That's got nothing to do with studio series.
Most primes that are flat nosed trucks share elements of the transformation because there's only so many ways you can engineer that transfromation while still looking like Prime. Arms come out of the cab, the back turns into legs, head pops out the top... been that way for a long time now
The truck mode looks so bad lol
Flat nose trucks in general look horrid
the posability of his arm and legs makes me think of siege optimus prime
Targets in the US have him priced at $125 so even cheaper.
im sorry....almost every mg has backskirts, the ones who dont are old kits so.....yes
Decided to watch this after learning that MPM-12 is being reissued. (Releasing September this year in my country) I've never collected any MP-style Transformers before, and from what I've seen here, this figure looks like it could be a good starting point.
Got it preordered to be my first Masterpiece. And despite the flaws, I’m excited for it.
This is supposed to be master piece, not a glorified studio series version
HasTak prioritizes G1 MP's, want better paint and engineering? Go with KO's or 3rd party because HasTak changes when G1 fans start dying out
It's actually 125$ in the US.
Interesting prospective & GREAT VIDEO 🦾🦾🎬🤓‼️
Perfection
1:28 I searched up “Trucks with cat ears.” And all I saw was people complaining about this figure’s cat ears. Maybe there’s a different term for it than cat ears though.😭
Is it just me that wants to get this a pose him flipping off megaton
I really want this figure to me it’s perfect for hasbro
You know this figure would’ve been great if it went under a leader class main line. Like it gives me ROTF leader vibes I kinda Dig it!
I was just at our towns apple fest. I found a vendor selling this brand new..for 25 freaking dollars..if I had more cash I would have bought a box of 5 and gave them out as gifts.
Don't hasbro do their version of these figures anymore ? They always used to be cheaper than takara , is that no longer the case ?
I paid 70 bucks at target. 120 or 180 for this is not it fam. Though nemesis prime is 280, you got to remember, It holds the title of Masterpiece and it feels like a masterpiece. EVERYTHING is beautifully painted and extremely well done. True this also is a masterpiece, this was more targeted toward the younger audience/budgeted audience. MP-44 is targeted to collector thus holds the high price and the should and always have been the purpose of the line "Masterpiece"
Completely understandable. After all the point of a toy is to be fun anyway
Im hovering over if i should buy this or not
Buy the cyber era ce06 version, much better than mpm12
Man.. talking about these prices got me hurting lol. I spent 385 for the WJ Black Apple Optimus Prime.. no regrets though.. hes beautiful
I got mine on target clearance for 35 USD!!!
It takes one hinge to make those cat ears flip down, they chose not to do that
I’m thinking of buying an Optimus Prime toy, should I get this or try to find a cheaper one? Any suggestions
well he do look good but the part of none moving butt flap is kinda easy to understand since alot of people including myseft dont move the leg back that much and for a MG it not really a requirement and alot of those kit have it have alot of solidity issues since alot of them either fall off or really loose(at least my copy is)and some PC(policap)based have alot of solidity issues since over time the PC is stressed and dont hold the pose anymore so less moving part on the kit give us less headache and i dont like gluing stuff(mostly kit with changing part like barbatos all armour pack)
Sorry this off topic but what kind of pc setup do you have? (For video editing)

And a shit load of ssd's
He looks really fun to play with. I'd definitely consider him. No plans to ever get Freedom Leader. I don't want a toy as unstable as my mental state
Freedom leader is an excellent figure as long as you don’t treat it like shit
@@ryanschmidt58 you still have to transform him
@@wsmstudio3329 okay, must I reiterate myself? And why do you insist on commenting on all my replies?
This figure was sold to me for £260 At forbidden planet London, beware their sky rocketed prices and they unbox everything so nothing is factory sealed unfortunately
I got the cat ear upgrade kit but the hands are the only thing that REALLY bother me.
Like why would they make them so shit?
A little nitpick is is wheels being so tiny. Real trucks have sizable tires.
Honestly my biggest problem with it is that the head looks like it's been squished, like someone missed a decimal point, also his shins don't bother me as much, but i still don't like how squished they appear....
Basically everything seems more squished than it should, but overall it is ok, I'm just not getting it
Saw 2 of these at a target. a TARGET
5:35 what bumblebee is that?
in Australia it was 250 but i got it on sale for 150 which i was stoked about and i have to say this is a solid figure its not perfect but its nowhere near as bad as people say

What are the other two Optimus prime toys called?
Mpm-04 Optimus and transform element op leader

How dare you insult freedom leader

Freedom leader is bad, Friggin Earthrise Prime is better.
@@joaoandlucas5867 Nah
@Todoroki Koichi Ok that I do know, but I wouldn’t call it horrible, more like good but some huge flaws
In my opinion, it is way too wide, and the look of the truck doesn't work for me either. Freedom Leader nailed the look for me.
Can you review the pixel 6 😂
I just picked up for £90 off eBay so far I'm okay with i might get the shoulder upgrade kit available
At Target for US retail, I got him for only $125
They must not have sold so well and I just found a bunch at Toymate here in Australia going out for $90 AU each minus my 5% member discount. I can't be too picky at this price .
That looks great. I think you got a defective op leader.
