If you’re not looking for wet performance, you will not find a better tire than the Power Cup 2. It’s the best tire I’ve used in the dry, by far. Had the Power RS on a Speed Triple and it was good.
I have the Power GP on my 08 zx6r. Great tire IMO, I dont have much experience with different tires but I have a lot more confidence riding on these than the pirelli rosso 2 that the previous owner had on.

My understanding is that the 5 uses more silica while the GP uses more carbon. The 5 is sporty but the GP is sportier. This at least from what I was able to pull from Michelin themselves. The 5 also provides better rain traction compared to the GP.

@@manskimix he's stated that he's riding pinigale and that's all it matters... If he ever answers your question he'd say "yes" Sorry for wasting your time but couldn't resist!
On high lean angles they are just slicks, an advantage. I can't see why anybody wants to have grooves until the edge of his tire. In particular 'the more carefull drivers' in the wet and on the street - they don't go track - never use the last 20 millimeter of tread towards max lean - so, even with reduced length of the grooves, getting away water to the outside should be no problem. If in theorie it passes outside a tires end or end of groove 20 mills earlier - does anybody see (inside the splash) or even recognize? The water will leave the groove end of streetcontact of the tire anyway - that's way before end of groove. But the markets will have to find out over tim, convince themselves - educating the markets here by a single manufacturer may just bring danger for the brand and costs for him. But individuals are free to choose on their own today already for the max rubber while cornering with higher lean angles, nice to have. And i want to buy rubber for to drive on anyway, not them grooves. 😉
Had a set of Power 5's fitted in July, Had to get them custom ordered, as there fairly new. Absolutely fantastic tire for Spirited street riding, done around 2,000 kms so far, and there not showing any signs of rounding off yet. The profile and performance are fantastic.
I've gone from Michelin Pilot Power 2's to Bridgestone Battlax S22's bc the PP2's are discontinued. I researched a lot and learned about tires needing certain temps for optimum performance and traction. What are the temp requirements for each of these, like do either of these need more heat for better traction or the same? If don't know for sure, please don't guess. I don't want misinformation. Riding style and road surface has a lot to do with tire temps as well. Maybe they're too new but I found a lot more positive reviews for the S22's than the PP5's. I'd like to see a review comparing those 2. Also what's main difference between the Michelin Pilot Power 5 and Pilot Road 5?
Super happy with my power RS on my zx10r. 3 track days and plenty of hard back road ripping and at nearly 10k there's still some life left... Power GP next for sure!
Had both on. GPs were destroyed in less than 1k miles. Power 5 are at the end now after just 4 months, no more than 1k miles again. Aggressive street riding only with one short track day. Bike is heavy though, maybe thats the problem. BMW K1300R
Could be it. I replaced the stock Dunlops on my '20 z900 at 600 miles (those tires SUUUUUCKKKK). Here I am near the end of the season 5K miles later and I MIGHT have enough tread on the power 5s for another 2k next season... Thinking of upgrading to the GPs next.
Once you've tested these tires, can you answer this question? Which tire is the most similar to the Power RS? I have had these tires on my tuono and I'm very happy with them. I was particularly impressed when I ridden in rain, and they didn't throw any fits, for a sporty tire. From what I understand, the power 5 might offer better wet weather performance, but I'm not sure if they offer the same dry weather grip as the RS. Thank you!
@@aidenlothian9642 Thank you for your reply! I figured that the Power GP might be better in dry that the Power RS, especially looking at the thread pattern, but I'm afraid that it won't be as secure in the wet as the RS.
I ran the power rs until I got my skills up to run the front of intermediate on my 07 gsxr 600. So I put them on my ZX10 and they're still good, but I personally don't feel like they can manage the power. So I put power cup 2s on the 600 and never looked back, might go with them on my ZX10 as well, and just put the power gps on my r1 street bike. So quick recap, power gp for occasional track day novice group, they're great. Power cup 2s definitely for the serious track day rider.
Have a 2021 mt 09 with the sp 22’s and love them but 3,400 miles later there already starting to square off on the middle. Love those twisties but take a little of straight road driving before getting there. Going to give the power 5 a shot.
Cbr600rr Just purchased my second set. Got 7k miles out of them and the front still has a lot of thread. Changing the rear .... got a flat on highway and thread is so low the plug isn’t holding. It was time to change anyways. 7k miles and aggressive sticky grip.... Can’t complain at all
Had the power gp on my cb1000r. Dry grip was amazing so much confidence inspiring i scrubbed them really good, but in wet the rear was losing traction, some wheel spins. Got 6k kms from the rear. Changed to road 6 as I want a bit more kms from the tires. Few track days coming so let's see how good of thrashing can the handle.
I’ll be extremely interested to hear your thoughts on how the Road 6 compares. I’m considering a pair on my CB1000R. I’m coming from the Power 5 which I find slightly harsh.
@@Maverick-moto just did over 2k kms on road 6. Pretext I bought the motorcycle at the start of this year wity power gp on them and was taking it easy. I ended up chewing the mid section I was doing straight line pulls and riding on motorways more. After owing it and riding it everyweekend I am riding it harder and pushing it more. I am happy how road 6 is holding up. Still looks brand new after 2k kms. Have track days in November, I'll post my full review when it's time to change them.
I've had both on my bikes and imo the Power 5 is not worth it. Provides maybe a little bit more grip than the Road 5 but I can use both on the track, the Road 5s tend to get a bit too hot but that's okay if you take a few breaks but it's completely fine for twisties. Apart from that Power 5 was gone in 4.5k miles on the rear, whilst my Road 5s lasted 14k miles on the same bike. The fronts of the power 5 are exceptional though and provide much better feel than the Road 5 whilst still offering decent wet grip, Imo Road 5 on the rear and Power 5 on the front is a VERY nice combo, the fronts last much longer than the Power 5 rears anyway so if you get a Road 5 rear and Power 5 front (since they are basically identical profile) they will wear out about the same rate.
Had the power 5 on my 2022 S1000RR and I loved the handling of them but was disappointed I barely got 4k miles out of them running the factory recommended tire pressures.
Just looking for a set for my ZX-12R as well. Will probably go for these, but all I do is sport touring mainly. Check my bike out here instagram.com/kawasakininjazx12r
@@TH-cam_Globetrotter you are right. the motorcycle shop did change them for these for me because I drive also in the rain.... the power cup 2 sucks in rain! ( bought a new duke890R)
@@chriskamphuis21 Yeah, i could guess. They didn't last long. Incredible grip if you go track, but I never did. But for the road atleas I need tire that last longer.
Vytas joking about being aggressive with the throttle. These tires are sticky and don’t break or squirm out when accelerating and decelerating quickly. They are forgiving.
I run the old Power RS on my 1200s monster brilliant. When the rear was due on my 1098s my shop told me the Power 5 was the successor to the RS, it ain't. If you like to go for a spirited ride thru the twisties on a sunny day , get the GP. I can't get the same tread adhesion with the 5 that I can with the RS. So I'm keen to try GP.
The Power 5's are NOT a track/high performance tire, they would be great for touring etc but they do not inspire confidence when pushed. My local shop said they were a replacement of the RS, but that tire is way better however the RS can chew out on the join between the compounds. If I were to try Michelins again it would either be the Cup or GP
@@45south That's what I'm thinking..if the GP is the same as the RS then ill pass as the joint between the two compounds cupped and got quite squirmy. Was a good tire till that point around 3km..Swapped them out for S22s and although these are not as soft they have been a good replacement
These vs. Q3+. Sadly, kinda aggressive road riding on my 07 SV650S w/gixer front end and ZX10 shock. Need new tires, down to the wear bars on the rear and just got into the carcass on the right side.
Wish motorcycle tires had some form of UTQG like auto tires, obviously motorcycle tire use cases vary even more widely than auto tires, but it's just impossible to get any sort of measure for how a given tire is going to wear.
What the difference in mileage on a rear of the 5s and gps i have a set of gps on now and love them but seam like they wore out fast and will be honest if i wasn't working on wheelie would have lasted longer
Hello, I put some Michelin Power 5 Pilot CT2 190 - 17 on my S1000XR and on the middle edge they have a kind of squares marked 3 on the back and two on the front, do you know what they are for?
I still have a set of michelin pilot power 2ct on my TL1000R and have been very happy with these tires. I will most likely change these out for 2021. I dont ride this bike very much as I typically jump on my cruiser. I dont do track days and only take this bike out when its dry but could get see some rain. What's a more appropriate tire for my application?
Had power rs on the speed triple 2008,, for 4 years so bought a k6 gsxr 1000 and will try power 5 on it mostly road riding,, reasonably priced,, 250 pair fitted,, from Belfast,, Northern Ireland,, ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
Ima pirelli angel GT guy, but im very disappointed on the GT2. They feel like the bike is slipping going over pavement like surfaces on the high way. Like how when you go over those patches on the road where they fill the cracks with. Regular GTs never had this issue. Even tho the GT2 is alot better as far as grip goes, that one con about them is irritating. Im willing to bet its the two center lines thats going around the whole tire. So im thinking about switching to ROAD 5.
2 track days, 18000klms out of my power road 5s, probably another 2k but double puncture seen the end to that, just put another set on, great tyre, lots of street and highway miles here in Western Australia through tough climates.
Road 5s are great, I've tried the power 5s cos i was like "the road 5 is so good in the wet I've never even come close to slipping so maybe i can sacrifice a but of wet grip for handling" I went for the Power 5s and sure enough, if the road 5 is 60/40 for dry/wet then the power 5 is a 70/30, still immensely good in the wet compared to other tyres but it did the occasional slip over a wet manhole cover or paint lines, nothing major though, however the mileage is terrible. They cost the same as the Road 5s and only last 1/3 the miles. I honestly can't tell the difference for dry grip between the 2, the only problem with the road 5s is a bit less feel and they tend to overheat on the track if you go out for too long too hard, but it's manageable by taking a cooldown lap or just taking a short break, but that's it.
Used these(Power GP) on my 05 ZX10R. 2 trackdays and 8000km on the road, still enough thread left, More then enough. Think i can get 11.000 out of them. And i ride pretty aggressive. Not too much highway. Gotta change the rear now, cause it cupped a bit at the right side. Really love these tires btw.
The tyre composition and compound is the same, the only difference is the tread 6% on Power GP vs 11% on Power 5. Most people don't know that. I'll definitely be getting Power 5, better all round tyre.
Their their dual compound don't work for me, had 2 sets of road 4s and 1 set of road 5s and so far every set has become a triangle since corners are the only thing I care about 😂
I've been using the road 5 on my Ninja for about a year and a half and they're great. I can't imagine anyone on the street ever needing more grip than that and then the added benefit of having awesome grip in heavy downpours as well. I don't know how well the Power 5 would do in those conditions though, might be good enough to get you to where you need to go. No one is really pushing it in downpours anyway.
I am on my second set for my fz07 and they are great in all conditions. I never felt like I needed more or that I had to hold back. Im not sure I would trust the power 5 as much in rough conditions, but I guess a bigger bike could outperform the road 5 in good conditions.
I’ve ran road 5 on wet roads during a down pour and water runoffs tire really perform we’ll really pushed it, slightly losing grip while having a passenger it was sketchy but I wanted to push it to the edge and it didn’t disappoint I highly recommend em the 6’s are a great tire too and now I wanna try the power 5 a buddy has the power GP and his a die hard Rosso 4 guy and so far he is impressed with em on his 23 SK1RR
The RS has a higher silica content, making it better for street use as it will handle wet conditions better than the GP. This is the largest difference between the two. I hope that helps! -Zack
@@RevZilla As in the internal structure is different or something? Based on Michelin on TH-cam and some articles using the same images the % of silica to carbon black is the same. In fact they quote the RS rear to be 23/54/23, while GP is 22.5/55/22.5 i.e. more silica. Which I'd imagine is just rounding and ends up being the same.
Is there did you make a Bridgestone s22 vs Michelin road 5 video? 95% street rider i may bring my bike to a track this summer switched from Bridgestone bt16pro’s to the s22 and 100% way better tire but id like to know what would last longer and get my miles worth and be able to put power down the road 5’s or s22
The Cup 2 is a DOT race tire that Actually works on the street. The Power GP is actually a 50/50 tire that can hold up to Advance level track day pace.
Yeah but like any tire working near it's limits just because the Power GP can do advance that's the point you should be considering setting up to the Cup2
The Power 5 is a street sports tyre and seems to be in the same category as a Pirelli Rosso 3, loved the feel of the Rosso 3s and got about 8,500kms out of them. How does the Power 5 compare in both feel and distance to the Rosso 3s ?
With some 1500kms on the Power 5s I'm going to say I like the feel of the Rosso 3s better, in fact between the the Rosso 3s and Power 5s I had Angel GT 2s and liked the feel of those better as well. The Power 5s are good in that they turn in pretty neutrally as I like, they grip well enough in cold slippery conditions, in otherwords I'm OK with them until they wear out. Maybe it's only my opinion but they feel a little wooden through tight flip flopping twisties in comparison to the previous two Pirellis....On the plus side as Michelins go they are far better than my hated Road 4s I've had in the past..
a crazy fact that no one mentions about the power 5 is that its 600 grams lighter than the competition on the back tire, I am looking forward to replace my old metzeler racetec rr k3 and when I saw that difference between power 5 and everyone else I was very impressed, people spend 4k on carbon wheels for 1-2kg sprung weight savings so 600 grams just from the tire sound amazing considering that its not priced very different than the competition.
Power 5 surprised me : for a Michelin it's quite stiff and long to break in. Very good on the wet but not that sticky though so for my ZZR/ZX14 I'll go back to the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II which IMO and several tests is the best sports bike tyre. For my GSXR 1000 I'll either stick to the Pirelli Supercorsa SP or try the new Continental Raceattack 2 Street
They need some temperature before you push them, but it doesn't take too long to switch them on. Tyre pressures are critical too, I usually run 2.1 bar front and rear (cold).
This may be a dumb question but I’m Feeling like my local guys steered me in the wrong direction. I had a Power 5 on my front and they talked me into a Road 5. Did I just lose some of my cornering performance?
Those look tempting, but I'm considering a long trip late winter and the damn virus is throwing a wrench in plans. If I don't take long trip these would be perfect for my canyon runs and commuting on my R6. Decisions decisions...
I been running Michelin pilot power 2ct for years honestly I know they’re old but they have got me through rain dirt dust little oil I love the way they feel so this upcoming season idk what to get . I go as hard as possible on the street not to sound like a douche and need a tire upgrade

Not sure why I missed this review. I am on my 3rd or 4th set on my 2020 Super Duke GT and they are amazing...AMAZING. I am getting about 4K miles on a rear which is pretty good considering some of the more aggressive Super Duke R and GT rider have gotten as few as 1200 miles... I am really hoping we will se a Power 6 soon. I have seen a couple of reviews on the Diablo Rosso IV (not available when this video launched)
It would definitely not last longer, it's a way softer compound and made for a bunch of grip (seriously they don't want to let lose of the tarmac), angel gt is pretty hard but lasts way longer but for the cost of grip
NO, the angle gt will last longer I have angle gt front and rear on a +10 and love them more than sticky enough. I even air down and drag race and it hooks my zx10r just fine
I mounted Power 5's on my zx14r. 3000 miles in the front tire is hardly worn at all. The rear is at about half life. Problem here is a bad one though. As I pass 100 mph the bike begins to shake, a definite tremor from the tires and not a bike malfunction. It gets progressively worse the faster you go. SO, I will not buy these again. They replaced S21's which NEVER vibrated no matter how fast. I've heard from others they've had the same problem. It's not an isolated incident. Beware.
I had some pirelli diablo tires and i wasnt a fan of them at all. They wore down super fast and offered 0 grip. Im a much bigger fan of the pilot power line
doesn't need 2ct+ on the front. The + means the centre harder compound goes from the centre of the tyre to the edge of the tyre and the softer stickier compound found at the edge of the tyre is place on top of that harder compound giving the shoulders of the tyre extra support at lean for use for example under acceleration ect. Even Michelins new Power Cup 2 doesn't have 2ct+ on the front so it's not that these are somewhat budget tyres because it's lacking that feature. I'm not sure any tyre has 2ct+ on the front. It's simply not needed.
Kyle Def The Power Rs and Power GP are actually two different tires. The Power RS is advertised as a 90% street/ 10% track tire. The Power GP is advertised as a 50% street/ 50% track tire. Both have the same tread pattern and appear to look the same but the Power GP is made with stickier rubber

Composition is not the same. Power 5 is all silica, GP has silica on center and black carbon on the sides. Makes a difference!
My understanding is that the 5 uses more silica while the GP uses more carbon. The 5 is sporty but the GP is sportier. This at least from what I was able to pull from Michelin themselves. The 5 also provides better rain traction compared to the GP.
Just come home on a new set in the North West of England. It pissed down all the way and my panigale never stepped out of line once looking forward to enjoying the odd dry day.

Sorry for wasting your time but couldn't resist!

Currently still using Power GPs, mileage is unbelievable.
I got 4k mile out of my P5 rear, what are you getting on the GPs?
I ran the power rs until I got my skills up to run the front of intermediate on my 07 gsxr 600.
So I put them on my ZX10 and they're still good, but I personally don't feel like they can manage the power.
So I put power cup 2s on the 600 and never looked back, might go with them on my ZX10 as well, and just put the power gps on my r1 street bike.
So quick recap, power gp for occasional track day novice group, they're great. Power cup 2s definitely for the serious track day rider.

Would love to see a milage comparison between the Road 5 and Power 5
road 5 will see about 2.5x-3x the amount of miles, the cost of grip is high
From what I've heard and read, one can expect about 20% less mileage out of the P5 when compared to the R5.
@@LonelyTreeSunset no no no. a road 4 could do 13.5k out of a rear on my cbr 600. Power tires are more around 5k miles sometimes less
If mileage is a concern, don't go for the Powers.
The fronts of the power 5 are exceptional though and provide much better feel than the Road 5 whilst still offering decent wet grip, Imo Road 5 on the rear and Power 5 on the front is a VERY nice combo, the fronts last much longer than the Power 5 rears anyway so if you get a Road 5 rear and Power 5 front (since they are basically identical profile) they will wear out about the same rate.
my kawasaki z800R loves these power 5's at 32 psi cold would totally recommend
Hi, Revzilla. Any development on the wear of both tires? Which one gives a better mileage?

Are you talking about Power 5 or Power GP?
@@im0612 Power 5
What tyre pressures do you run the power gps on the road ??
I run the old Power RS on my 1200s monster brilliant. When the rear was due on my 1098s my shop told me the Power 5 was the successor to the RS, it ain't. If you like to go for a spirited ride thru the twisties on a sunny day , get the GP. I can't get the same tread adhesion with the 5 that I can with the RS. So I'm keen to try GP.
The GP replaced the RS and RS+
The Power 5's are NOT a track/high performance tire, they would be great for touring etc but they do not inspire confidence when pushed. My local shop said they were a replacement of the RS, but that tire is way better however the RS can chew out on the join between the compounds. If I were to try Michelins again it would either be the Cup or GP
@@45south Yes, power RS did wear of very fast on track where compounds meet. With power RS+ i dont have this problem as much.

Hi. How do you find the power 5 compared to rs
How do the Power 5 and Power Gp compare to the Power RS? Other than the percentage of 2ct strips?
Think of the Power RS as the Power 4 cause Michelin never came out with a Power 4. Michelin went from Power3 -> PowerRS -> Power5 -> PowerGP
The GP is suppose to be the RS replacement
im using Kawasaki Z800.... always weekend ride.... and go to track day every 3-4 month once... with model you recomended?
Do you mean the road 5? Theres a power 5 and a road 5, not a power road 5.
@@SirSpinalColumn yea road 5
I'm putting the power 5 on my l9 gsxr750 today I can't wait

Michelin power5 or the Michelin road 5?
Power 5
I've been using the road 5 on my Ninja for about a year and a half and they're great. I can't imagine anyone on the street ever needing more grip than that and then the added benefit of having awesome grip in heavy downpours as well.
I don't know how well the Power 5 would do in those conditions though, might be good enough to get you to where you need to go. No one is really pushing it in downpours anyway.
I've got a pair of Power 3/4? on my VFR and once they square off, they handle like butt. Standard PSI. Going back to the Road 4s once they're dead.
Anyone know how Power GP is different to Power RS? Seems to be the same composition, same mould. Has anything changed?
The RS has a higher silica content, making it better for street use as it will handle wet conditions better than the GP. This is the largest difference between the two.
I hope that helps!

PLease review the power cup 2 or do a comparison of the q4 vs power cup 2

That's what i want to know. Looks exactly the same as the power rs
Yes! Power 5 is a new tyre, Power GP replaces the Power RS/RS+.
I like these. I was thinking Angel GT so would the Power 5 last longer ?
It would definitely not last longer, it's a way softer compound and made for a bunch of grip (seriously they don't want to let lose of the tarmac), angel gt is pretty hard but lasts way longer but for the cost of grip
NO, the angle gt will last longer I have angle gt front and rear on a +10 and love them more than sticky enough. I even air down and drag race and it hooks my zx10r just fine
I bought it today.
Beware.
That’s a tire mounting/balancing problem
Also check rear wheel alignment. Do not trust the adjusters. Measure from axle center to swing arm pivot to properly align.
My power5 have done 17.500 km on the front wheel. Bike is BMW R1200RS
French and Italian tire companies lead the way. French(Michelin) makes great road tires and Pirelli(Italian) makes the best track tires.

Where’s the mileage comment
Sounds like you never rode the Power GP tires, not a way for a good review if you haven't ridden them hard.
Not interested until front tires get 2CT+ thingy
doesn't need 2ct+ on the front.
GOON INF THX
Those "dimples" on the side are a joke by Michelin. They're gone in 50 miles.
Power RS still offers better performance lol
