Great idea and I love that it's safe to use around kids and pets!! Thanks so much! I just made some, but instead of trying to funnel the baking soda/essential oil mix directly into the spray bottle, I mixed it with water in a separate bigger container first and then just easily poured the liquid through the funnel into the spray bottle. I'm not very patient so this worked better for me :)
I tried the cleaner for the bathroom (warm vinegar and dish soap) and it left my tub so nice and clean. I am so so so happy I found your video and tried it. I shared it with my sisters so they can keep their bathrooms nice and clean with non-toxic cleaners. Thank you!!! You rock!!! ;D
If you don't want to wait with the funnel you can mix the water and baking soda mixture in a bowl first and than pour it in the bottle with the funnel 😉
I always love to have a nice smelling bedroom. I used to be terrible with room hygiene, but now days my room smells great. This tutorial can help me keep my room smelling fresh
Thx for the recipe....you forgot to mention that before each use that the container must be shaken to incorporate the oil and water...otherwise the oil floats to the top.
Just did this with tea tree oil, put a little less because tea tree oil can be overwhelming, works great! First place to try was the laundry dry room where the kitty litter box is!
I left a comment on your blog asking you to make sure you know what essential oils are safe to use on and around children. Facebook groups "using essential oils safely" and "safe essential oil recipes" are closed groups you can request to join, and both have so much good information on eo safety. I learned a lot from these groups.
Awesome! I made the one with fabric softener and it made the whole house smell like laundry, which got nauseating. This recipe seems so much better. TFS!
I love fresh laundry smell, especially if it's not mixed with fabric conditioner. Just clean fresh scent. We hang our clothes to dry (tropical country) and that smell is just so relaxing after hours of doing the laundry.
I also love the smell of lemon essential oil, thanks for giving such a easy and simple air freshener recipe. I was finding very badly this kind of air freshener because of bad odor from my bathroom.
You got me hooked on essential oil! So many great benefits! I just got some sweet orange essential oil. It's like I just peeled oranges, so fresh! Will make some! Just need another spray bottle!
I heard on someone else’s video that they mix the baking soda and essential oils beforehand because it helps the oils to coagulate with the water better. I know this isn’t precisely what you meant but I hope it still helps. 😊
hi....it will b easier to mix the water with baking soda in the measuring cups before hand so u dnt have to use the funnel just a little helpful tip..luv the videos keep them comming
Advice that will help the person who posted the video to know of the danger of essential oils and those reading the comments about something that will be detrimental to a pet's health should not be taken as offensive. If you don't have a pet, this will not affect you but if you do and there are others who are willing to share their knowledge what natural ingredients can cause damage to a pet, then we should be grateful instead of feeling insulted. We are all here to contribute and that should be the purpose of TH-cam users. We are trying to make each other's life more enjoyable and safe if we can provide the knowledge that we have. And I have done the research and yes essential oils are dangerous to pets, you have been advised of this so do it at your own risk.
You are absolutly correct! Essential oils can be bad for pets and people, most are incredibly irritating and can cause phototoxic reactions on skin. They smell great, but you have a great point....beware of "natural" ingredients, they are chemicals just like any other and have their own risks. Thanks for supporting the other commenter, we should be gratefull that others are sharing information even if we don't like it!
This is true, I was actually going to say this as well. I'm not an EO expert but I do use them. I have a cat so I do not spray anything with EOs or diffuse them etc. where my cat spends the most time. I believe that the ctirus oil are ones to really be concerned about. I'd advise researching safe oils for pets. Young Living has some so contact a YL rep. This is a great recipe though....we just need to be use different oils when pets are involved. Also if anyone has respiratory issues, I'd consult a doctor before using EO.
+Birdie R Thank you. I get bad rashes/burns from EO. My father-in-law is a pastor. He wanted to bless our first home but I told him I have reactions to EO. He said that his were from the Holy Land and very pure. Since I was a young bride and didn't want to offend my new in laws, I let him. Then he tried to anoint my head. I said no. He said ok. That night, I fell asleep in the chair and he drew a cross on my forehead with the oils. I ended up in the ER with a cross burned into my forehead. The scars are faded to where they are barely there, but after 20 years, He still does not like me because he thinks I am the devil. Please be careful with even the "purest oils".
+Marcena Hinojosa Dear God! What on earth is wrong with that man? It is absolutely terrible that he did that when you told him in no uncertain terms not to. In-laws are already hard enough to get along with and the fact that he insults you by going against your wishes and continues to abuse you by judging your character is abhorrent and incredibly hypocritical. Such arrogance! I am glad you shared your experience with essential oils and how dangerous they can be for some people. "Natural" can mean so many things. Poison ivy is natural, but you wouldn't spray that all over your house!
...OMG I have allergies and am allergic to everything under the sun. I was going to comment about your father in law thinking you were possessed (lol) but you stated otherwise. You really need to have him speak with a doctor about those oils and your allergies, maybe you could teach him something even though it has been 20 years. Blessings (no pun intended lol).
Great video thank you so much. I see that both you and Carson made it through the vacation without any visible scars :) I hope you and your hubby had a wonderful time.
Great recipe, but I am curious to know how the baking soda doesn't kill the scent of the essential oil as it typically will neutralize most smells or odor...or does it act in this case as a salt to preserve the scent? Thanks!
i like lemon around the house too so far i have experimented with tea tree cinnamon and lavandar and lemon grass i would like gardenia so pretty any way baby owen is sitting up already ????coment on that time flies
I have 8 cats and 1 dog and this does not harm them. been using this remedy for over 1 yr. key thing. do not spray ur animals with it duh. if u feel like it, u can spray everything when they are not in the room wait 5 minutes then allow pets in room etc. for clogging issues I shake before each use. make sure u have the correct measurements of ingredients. I have had no problems at all
Great video! I barely started making my own household cleaners because my baby is due in October and I'm trying to be more natural when it comes to cleaning. I do use febreeze after I vacuum my couches because I have 5 pets in the home, but I find that it runs out so quick and it's expensive. I'm definitely going to give this a try!
I'm going to make this! My hubby and I recently adopted a cat from the local shelter - his name is Ranger - and I can spray this in the bathroom to hide any smells from the litter box! :) I also love the smell of lemon. It makes everything seem so clean and fresh!
Instead of using a funnel that takes a lot of time to get the mixture into the bottle, an alternative would be paper or baking sheet or similar material. Cut the paper into desired size. Put the mixture into the cut paper. Then, transfer! Tap the paper in case mixture sticks on it.
People who own Pets should not use any Chemical/Commercial Sprays or Laundry detergents either on or around them! Just be smart when being a Pet owner and/or Parent. No need to preach or become rude when commenting. I'm sure you all can figure it out....after all you are using the internet. Dr. Karen Baker is a very good source for Pet questions/advice of any kind. TFS....great video.
You can also make one with lavender and other soothing scents for your bed. Perfect for spritzing on after you make your bed in the morning for all day freshness or spritz it on just before slipping under the sheets at night.
Thank you so much for your storage and DIY ideas. Im a older lady, not getting any younger, lol so every little bit helps me. Also Carson is a sweetie, one of my grandsons name is Cason so close
I just made some of this stuff. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is amazing and it smells sooooo good. I added a few drops of tea tree oil for an antibacterial. It smells very fresh in my home. I can't wait to use it on the three hockey bags that take residence here. :)
Hi I just want to tell you that I absolutely love your channel! And I was attempting to try to organize under my kitchen sink and picked up some stacking bins from the dollar tree & they are just not durable. They collapse into the other. Any idea on where I can find some good ones? Thank U
How does the oil & water mix? & also doesn't the baking soda take the smell away from the oil like it does with other smells? Tell me how this works????
No the baking soda desolves with the water. Baking soda elimates order the oils just makes room smell good. Ive been using this DIY for years and the SAME Febreze bottle with no problems.
What's the reason for adding baking soda? Also wondering why you mixed the essential oil with the baking soda prior to putting it into the bottle. Seems like an unnecessary step. I would have just put each in separately, added the water and shook the bottle.
Dee Inbc Baking soda neutralizes odors... same thing as when you put a box of it in your fridge/freezer to absorb smells. Technically it doesn't matter how you mix it.... that's up to you. And btw... this stuff really does work!
Why not dissolve the baking soda and oil in the glass jug then pour it in the spray bottle - saves trying to get the powder mix through the narrow spray bottle - Just an observation 😎
I used your idea to replace "Frebreze" but I couldn't find the oil so I went to the dollar store and got the Febreze plug-in double pack opened the bottle took out the scent stem and poured half into baking powder and half cup water to desolve soda poured into old febreze bottle and BAM homemade " FEBREZE" for 35cent a bottle.
I have tried natural oil + alchohol mix before and the tip og the spray always clogged w/ oil if i didnt use them regularly. I really hope it works this time.
Hiya,I'm from the uk and was wondering what baking soda is? only we have bicarbonate of soda and baking powder and wasnt sure which one is the correct one to use.many thanks x
One of my favorite DIY cleaning recipes!! Lemon and lavender together smell heavenly!
That sounds like a great combo. Must try!

Lavender is toxic to pets but ok to use if you don't have furbabies.
Great idea and I love that it's safe to use around kids and pets!! Thanks so much!

Would you please explain, like warm vinegar and dish soap . (Vinegar+dish soap= for toilet cleaning)?
I'm Little bit confused here, ?
If you don't want to wait with the funnel you can mix the water and baking soda mixture in a bowl first and than pour it in the bottle with the funnel 😉
I love it when you share your recipes for homemade cleaning supplies. I love how child and pet friendly they are too! Thanks for sharing :)
I always love to have a nice smelling bedroom. I used to be terrible with room hygiene, but now days my room smells great. This tutorial can help me keep my room smelling fresh
Put the baking soda in the water first then mix and pour both into the spray bottle
Great idea, thanks !!
A small tip: if the baking soda-oil mixture is in the fennel on the bottle, poor also the water through the fennel ;-)
Hey, we are neighbors! I lived in Charlotte 5 years & worked in Matthews for about a year. Love your channel!
tried it 🌟 love it💖 will make it again
I made this yesterday using green tea and cucumber essential oil. (What I already had on hand) amazing and fresh! Thank you so much!!!
Be careful using tea tree oil around dogs.. IT'S POISONOUS TO THEM!!
Green tea, not tea tree and I don’t have a dog so even so, I’m good

I just finally made your all purpose cleaner an hour ago :) - my first time ever to make a cleaner. Will try your pledge and this one. Thanks!
Yay! :) :)
hi
You got me hooked on essential oil! So many great benefits! I just got some sweet orange essential oil. It's like I just peeled oranges, so fresh! Will make some! Just need another spray bottle!
I made it straight away. Thanks. Its great for the dogs bed!!! Does leave a bit of a residue so I just aim more carefully now, for the fabric only.
Thanks for the awesome, simple, and effective recipe. I used Lilac essential oils.
the explanation is clear and easy to do, they also look all-natural, a wonderful air freshener indeed.
Worked flawlessly!
Couldn't you mix the baking soda in the water before pouring it into the bottle - would be much easier to fill the bottle?
hahahah yep! I thought of it before starting - thankful!
haha! my thoughts exactly
I heard on someone else’s video that they mix the baking soda and essential oils beforehand because it helps the oils to coagulate with the water better. I know this isn’t precisely what you meant but I hope it still helps. 😊
Try mixing everything with the water and pour it into the bottle together,🇬🇧simple

acajudi100 hi guys some advice from anyone who has made this in terms of bottling and selling them for a small profit pls? 🤗
Fabulous. I much prefer using all natural ingredients whenever possible.
I'm always looking for safe all natural alternatives. Thank you!
Wonderful idea ... I'm going to try this ASAP ... keep it coming!
Lovely! We use peppermint for lots of things around our house. I have lemon EO - going to make some!

You always have the greatest tips !
loooks great I love lemon or lime ! do you have other recipes ? do you make your dish washing liquid ?
I use a chopstick to help get the baking soda down through the funnel. :)

*Attention All* This is an amazing content and I learn new something from your every video. Thanks for Updating!
I just love your channel!
I've made DIY carpet freshener and never thought to make my own air freshener. Thanks for sharing.
Does the baking soda ever clog the sprayer or does it dissolve all the way...? Thank you...
It DID clog the nozzle, and I had to dump everything.
I'm going to make this! My hubby and I recently adopted a cat from the local shelter - his name is Ranger - and I can spray this in the bathroom to hide any smells from the litter box! :) I also love the smell of lemon. It makes everything seem so clean and fresh!
I THINK LEMON IS TOXIC TO CATS!!!!!!😿😿😿😿😿😿😿
I think I'll use lavender and spray the bedroom and bed at night. Relaxing.
Will this ever develop mold or mildew if it sits in the bottle too long? Or should we use a preservative in addition to the ingredients in the video
I made this but orange scented and it really helped thank you so much. Btw febreeze gives ne a headache as well 😂😂😂
Does the smell last long n how long? Thanks in advance
Instead of using a funnel that takes a lot of time to get the mixture into the bottle, an alternative would be paper or baking sheet or similar material. Cut the paper into desired size. Put the mixture into the cut paper. Then, transfer! Tap the paper in case mixture sticks on it.
I have done this with vinegar, water, and e. oil-works great.
Thanks for sharing! Wouldn't it be easier to mix the recipe if you had pour the baking soda in the bottle first then the essential oils?

Thanks so much. I am going to use this recipe. Have a wonderful day.
How long would the smell last?
Only for an hour 😔I tried it. You can always respray! 👍🏻😁
I've just become addicted to your page. Do you know if this air freshener is safe for cats and dogs? I have one of each.
Great vid. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to try this when I get home.
love it 💖 used bergamot essential oil 👍👍👍
This recipe is awesome! I just tried it, and it is fantastic! You have a new subscriber!
Awesome!. Glad u r back safe from ur trip!
Love all natural!! What a great tip!!
God bless :)
Definitely going to try this out. I get headaches from a lot of store brands as well. Sensitive sinuses lol. New subscriber here :)
Thank you so much for your storage and DIY ideas. Im a older lady, not getting any younger, lol so every little bit helps me. Also Carson is a sweetie, one of my grandsons name is Cason so close
Bonnie Propps Aww😻😻 this soo cute!!
When you start spraying your baby lmfao 😂😂
I wasn't the only to notice that lmao.
Lol
So true
does the scent last? I tried a recipe with rubbing alcohol + water + essential oil and my only problem is that after 20 minutes the scent subsides.
did u use a plastic Spray bottle? doesn't the essential oil eats up the plastic??
Faiz Sheikh no it doesn't and actually it works nicely the essential oil is diluted enough for it not to corrode the bottle.
It could be PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic, which does not get eaten up by essential oils
Brilliant! Just what I was looking for.
Can i use fresh lemon juice or zest?
What a great DIY project.......thanks for sharing.
I can't wait to try this! A lot of other air fresheners give me a migraine.
I just made some of this stuff. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is amazing and it smells sooooo good. I added a few drops of tea tree oil for an antibacterial. It smells very fresh in my home. I can't wait to use it on the three hockey bags that take residence here. :)
I prefer to put lemon juice rather then essential oil, it's safer for pets and just smells less potent
Best broccoli ever
Citric acid and soda bicarb react together to give a useless salt. Thus killing the benefit of both lemon juice and soda bicarb.
@@ambreeniramahmad8315 But does it get rid of smelly smells?
Will the yellow color of the essential oil stain white linens? added a drop of orange essential oil and realize maybe the orange will stain?
Hi I just want to tell you that I absolutely love your channel! And I was attempting to try to organize under my kitchen sink and picked up some stacking bins from the dollar tree & they are just not durable. They collapse into the other. Any idea on where I can find some good ones? Thank U
Awesome video...will try this.
Does it harden after sitting due to baking soda? Can it be used at air freshener in car ?
Does the baking soda leave white stains on the sofa and floor when u spray and droplets of baking sofa land everywhere? Thanks in advance
If I spray this repeatedly in a carpeted room, will the Essential oils make the carpet oily?
Can I use only baking soda and water with no essential oil? Does it still get rid of bad odors?
What's the reason for adding baking soda? Also wondering why you mixed the essential oil with the baking soda prior to putting it into the bottle. Seems like an unnecessary step. I would have just put each in separately, added the water and shook the bottle.

Oil and water dont mix, baking soda is kind of a solvent i guess..
should this be shaken everytime before use?
Another really nice scent for refreshing rooms, etc is ~Bergamot its a very nice, cheerful and uplifting scent.•°*˜ƸӜƷ
How long do you keep this solution? Do you have to keep in the fridge?
I have tried natural oil + alchohol mix before and the tip og the spray always clogged w/ oil if i didnt use them regularly.
I really hope it works this time.
Is the air freshener dangerous to fabrics
What essential oils do you use and are they safe for pets?
is the baking soda needed for it or does it form part of the cleaning agent?
It’s 2020 and I have no essential oil so I used perfume worked perfectly

Hi, lemon is beautiful, I use fabric softener and water for my air and fabric spray. love your videos Hello from Australia
Thanks, Helen!
How do you prevent the baking soda from gassing up on the spray bottle?
