I finally went to a Sunday morning Latter-day Saint church meeting! Did anything surprise you about my reaction?

    • @xelaevans
      @xelaevans ปีที่แล้ว +35

I may sound like a troll but that is not my intent. It would be amiss if I didn't mention that the blessings of the temple (and all blessings) are available retroactively. The power of God you have seen in your life may blossom from a deepened relationship you have with Him in the future. If you prefer perhaps in a future ... millennial temple? That said, there is truth among all churches and people and Latter-day Saints are far more Evangelical that we realize. It is good to feel your fellowship in this and other of your videos. Keep it up

Nope, not surprised by your reaction.
I’m glad you had a good experience, and that people were kind and welcoming to you.
FYI when I am asked to speak during sacrament meeting, I like to use the scriptures. If I was asked to give a talk on why I believe, that leads to me sharing my own personal story. If they were given a different topic, the talks may have been more scripturally based.
Thank you for attending a sacrament meeting and staying for the Elder’s Quorum meeting. I’m glad you had the whole experience.
I find it amusing that you said you thought converts might need a vocal try out.😂 We don’t all sing on key all the time, but thank you for thinking that.😂
I do have choir practice tonight for a Temple Worker fireside in a few weeks.😉😁

As far as your reaction goes, I think you did a great and fair summary of the meetings. I think as far as saying others can't feel the power of God, if they haven't made covenants, is not accurate in what we believe. Even the prophets and apostles acknowledge that other churches, both Christian and not, do much of God's work in the world. The difference is just access to the priesthood which is the authority to act in God's name. W

Pastor , if you had went to our LDS Church on the first Sunday of the Month , it would have been Fast and Testimony Sunday , and the members after Sacrament was passed would have Volunteered to bear their testimonies , this is every first Sunday except in April and October ( Semiannual Conference )

    • @coxrocks25
      @coxrocks25 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Sorry my keyboard froze up there. We believe that those covenants can only be accessed through the priesthood which is why it's important that Joseph Smith restored the church. Sometimes members can be a little confusing about that so that's probably how it was said but it's not really accurate

I’m very curious. I heard something I wanted clarification on because I want to know as a Catholic the beliefs. Mormons believe in Jesus Christ being the son of God, and his only loving son who died and ascended into heaven to sit with the Father or God. But what I’m curious about is how some Mormons don’t believe all Christian’s are Christian’s. In fact some are not even though they also believe in Jesus? Edit: it went as far as they expect to be considered Christian while also not considering others who believe in Jesus, Christian. Also the part about adding another book in the late 1800’s that Smith wrote being later named the Book of Mormon? The story of the Gold plates buried that he found, and I am curious since they are not old if they are still around because time hasn’t ruined it yet. I am seriously not sure and am only speaking what I’ve heard online and at least in my faith everyone, like me, feels you believe in Jesus and don’t plan on sinning you are a Christian.

Since when has Christianity included the book of Mormon (written by Joseph Smith)? Mormonism is critically unchristian. No one goes to hell. You can be someone who never repents, is an atheist etc yet they will go to the telestial kingdom. Um, last I checked, if you live a life separated from God, your fate is hell not the telestial kingdom. The Mormon cult is a rarely new religion. The United States is older than the Mormon church which was founded in the United States by a racist, Joseph Smith, that didn't like blacks. And they expect people to seriously believe that their "church" is the true church?

18:41 Jeff, one of the best experiences I had was attending the Lutheran Church, because our ward church building was up on a hill, and we were snowed out. I was a missionary at the time, and so I walked into the church with a name tag on, and people were whispering and very suspicious of our presence there. But we reassure them and the pastor that we would not proselyte in their church, but rather just wanted to worship Jesus Christ with them since our church was canceled. It was a really neat experience to see these peoples faith coming together on such a snowy morning.
My grandfather was a Sunday school teacher for his local Lutheran Church. He began reading the book of Mormon, and started teaching passages from the book of Mormon that he liked such as Mosiah chapter 2. The Lutheran minister did not appreciate that. He was teaching from the book of Mormon, and told him that he needed to stop reading from it if he was to continue in their church. My grandfather then said he would not stop reading the passages of goodness from the Book of Mormon and was kicked out of their Church. A year later he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints.
I think the sentiment with most members of the church is that they are willing to go to any religion, even mosques or other non-Christian religions and attend their services, and learn what they can about God. But sometimes other religions are very persecutive to us. For instance, my mom was treated very rudely buy all the kids at school because she was “Mormon”.
With that said, I do appreciate that you were trying to break down barriers because we in the religious community needs to stick together in order to combat the powers that be who are trying to take down religious freedom. So thank you for all you do in helping bridge the gaps between our groups.
May we be one in Christ that He may win us all 🙏💟

I can understand if you don't have that opportunity to participate in a congregation it can become amiss in the heart.
Take heart, you can sing to God in any instances, in your home, in your room, behind enemy lines, in your head or aloud.

Do Latter-day Saints believe that they will “get their own planet”? No. This idea is not taught in Latter-day Saint scripture, nor is it a doctrine of the Church. This misunderstanding stems from speculative comments unreflective of scriptural doctrine.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ, along with many other Christian denominations, believe in deification or theosis. This is based on the teaching that we can become heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). Though much may be speculated, little is known about the specific details of our potential under this doctrine. Simply reducing it to ruling a planet caricatures a profound and complex belief. The use of the word “planet” makes a generally very good people seem more like sci-fi enthusiasts than devout Christians.

Hey Pastor Jeff!! Wonderful video 😊
I don’t the LDS church has a monopoly on truth, light, or goodness. Only Jesus Christ does. There are so many good people in this world, other amazing Christians, fantastic people of other faiths, and even (especially!!) great people who don’t believe in God at all, and I believe that God works through them to bring about so much good/light/help here on earth. You just read Mosiah, right? “When you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only in the service of your God” (Mosiah 2:17). And how do you get to know the Master? You serve Him! Pastor Jeff, through the kindness you radiate, it is so clear that you know Christ. You serve Him for goodness sake! You serve us Latter-day Saints too!! I have been a member of this church for 15 years and I’ve chosen to continue with it because I do believe in the power of covenants and the teaching in the Book of Mormon as it brings me closer to Christ. But that doesn't mean that other people not of my faith can't also get close to God. Yes, Priesthood covenants are important, but the Christ I've read about in the bible never seemed to be a big fan of red tape or burnt offerings in the temple over someone who loves God and their neighbor with all their heart might mind and strength to me. Thank you so much for your goodness and for sharing with us Christlike kindness Pastor Jeff!! Wish you and your family well! (:
Edit: I spelled member wrong rip

I agree 💜 I wish somebody would have jumped in with some sense, maybe adding a question to help redirect that discussion when it seemed to become more cultural/incorrect than doctrinal. We do not believe that God only allows covenant makers to recieve grace and power, not at all. God works in many wonderful and mysterious ways. God loves all of his children. God's grace can reach anyone and change anyone at any time. If anything, I wish that covenant makers saw an increase responsibility to love and to see God's hand in the lives of other people who are not like them. Look at it this way, it's most certainly happened that some pastor at some church at some point in time has missed the mark on doctrine, well I'd say that's what happened here. Oh goodness, sometimes the people in the church really live in a bubble, and I do believe it is often to our detriment. I'm hoping that our church can become more loving and more united and let the stuff that's more cultural than doctrinal fall away. I know the time is coming. 💙

@@gigib9190 Good question 🥰 We believe this is the restored New Testament Church. We also believe that Judaism, Islam, etc (the Abrahamic religions) are all fulfillments of the Abrahamic Covenant that in his seed all the nations of the Earth would be blessed. We believe that God loves all His children, so much that He send His son, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. We believe that we can be filled with His pure love if we pray with all the energy of heart. One thing I like to remember is from Corinthians, that charity edifieth, where knowledge puffeth up. A person can share their testimony of the church with a pure motive and with sensitivity to the wonderful things God does in the lives of all His children. Not everyone has learned how to do that yet. I personally look forward to many people in the church being reborn and unified with all people, so that we can prepare for the Savior to return to the Earth, cuz God does not just show His hand in one church. God will work with anyone who will have Him to be their God. That's what matters.

The ward you attended, Butler Hill is special to us because I was baptized there and we were married there prior to being married in the Chicago Temple years before the St. Louis temple was built. We now live in Kentucky. I love the quiet reverence during our sacrament service and the sacrament hymn is to bring to mind the reason we partake of it…the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. One thing that concerned me was something you said you heard discussed in class…I hope you will ask one of your LDS member friends to clarify that for you. Hands down my favorite episode of Hello Saints yet! I’m humbled by Pastor Jeff’s example of kindness, curiosity and honesty.
While watching this, I was brought back to a few years ago when we were traveling as a family and couldn’t get to an LDS sacrament meeting on time. It was Palm Sunday and we really wanted to worship the Lord so we attended another denomination’s Sunday Service. Our kids were so rowdy and we were so embarrassed because the rest of the kids were so well-behaved but everyone was sincerely kind and inviting us back! I really appreciated how the pastor had visuals up on the screen of the hymns we were singing and the scriptures he was teaching about-it helped me understand much better what was being taught. During the closing hymn I was bawling, the Spirit and love for the Savior was so pure and strong and I turned to my husband to see that his eyes were flooded with tears too. Maybe it helped that it was a familiar song to us but I loved the connection I felt that day not only to God but to the others in that community. ❤

I'd like to explain a bit about the sacrament. 😊 First thing, the reason why there are some men who pass it on to the congregation is to symbolize service which is a very big thing in the church. Second thing, the reason for the water instead of wine impressed me a lot when I understood it for the first time. I used to think that it's just because we don't consume alcohol but it's actually based on John 4:14 "the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life". "The water that I shall give him" is the blood the he shed when he suffered for our sins and when he died on the cross. But through his resurrection, the blood of death that he shed turned into "a well of water springing up into everlasting life" because thanks to his resurrection, we will also be resurrected after death and live forever. Another symbolism is repentance. Thanks to his Atonement we can repent (apologizing for what we did wrong in prayer to God and asking for forgiveness) and receive forgiveness for our sins or in other words be made clean. Isaiah 1:18 "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool". I hope that my explanation was helpful. 😉

There is a historical precedent, as well. Doctrine and Covenants 27 records that Joseph Smith encountered an angelic messenger while out to obtain wine for the sacrament. The messenger commanded him not to purchase wine from people who were enemies of the church, but to only use wine if they had made it themselves. (The exact reason isn't stated. Was there concern that it might be poisoned? Or simply that giving money to people who persecute them is disadvantageous?) This same messenger also said that the PURPOSE for which the sacrament was being taken was what was important, and that what was actually consumed did not matter. The "Word of Wisdom," which asks members of the Church to refrain from alcohol came about later, but at the time it was issued, it was considered a recommendation rather than a commandment. It was early in the twentieth century that Latter-day Saints were asked to abstain completely from alcoholic beverages, and the shift to water instead of wine was made. Water also happens to be more practical, as it is inexpensive and easily obtained.

Right, it's not that there's a dress code for church - it's simply that we're encouraged to wear our Sunday best to show an outward respect for the Lord, inparticularly for when the sacrament is administered and recieved. There were times I found myself without my Sunday clothes or shoes and went with the best I had and that was acceptable because I went and it's really about my relationship with God.

Also, LDS members are not "punished" for engaging in social media (including TH-cam) nor are they "punished" for reading anything they want, even if it is critical of the church. People who are ex-members/apostates that are driven to publicly and vociferously tear down the LDS Church are clearly being influenced by Satan. Trying to learn about Christ and be more like him is one of the most important things we need to do regardless of how we do that. Obviously there are differences, but if we can embrace those differences and help each other navigate the trials of mortal life, I believe it would be much easier vs. arguing about who is right and who is wrong.

Yes we believe the ordinances, covenants and power to administer are within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints but it would be foolish to say God doesn’t bless anyone who is striving to live a life of discipleship in following Jesus Christ. He is a loving God and bless’s all who worship him according to their faith and knowledge. If indeed the ordinances are critical we profess then he will make them available to all. That is why we build temples. I know without a doubt there will be many surprises of who is in Heaven. For are we not all sinners. All shall confess Jesus is the Christ before final judgement. And thank goodness God is that judge.

Honest and sincere question, do LDS folks today generally worship and follow Jesus as the one who is the one and only God, Yahweh, who was never physically or spiritually created because he has always ruled as the triune God outside of time and space? Or do you believe in Jesus (named Jehovah) the first created in spirit of the resurrected Elohim/Heavenly Father? Or do you and most LDS people you know have a different view of Jesus than either of those? I know each LDS person has a unique perspective, so I don’t want to assume you hold to view 1 or 2. But I am genuinely confused when I hear LDS individuals say they believe in the “same Jesus” but they actually imagine a unique Jesus from the one that mainstream Christianity worships. I almost feel like there are two Jesuses who look like fraternal twins-almost but not identical, and the LDS faith holds to one and mainstream Christianity holds to the other. On close examination they are different but they seem somewhat a like on basics.

LE, I'm not aware of a scriptural description of God that we don't believe; If you'd like to give some examples, I'd be open to discussing them. I am aware of statements from the Nicene creed that don't mesh well with the Holy Bible (Is "trinity" or "triune" in the Bible?). Overall, I am very unfamiliar with various theories of what God is to mainstream Christianity--I only study the scriptures, and so I find myself much more closely aligned with scriptural descriptions of Jesus Christ. I really couldn't answer your question other than to say I believe in Jesus Christ as found in scripture.

Thank you for visiting our church Jeff! I am glad you felt welcomed. In response to your statement regarding our Sacrament itself, there is no message given during the administration of the Sacrament because the message is in the ordinance itself; We partake of the Sacrament to renew our baptismal covenants; so our thoughts while doing it each week are on those covenants, on the Savior and His sacrifice for us. Did they not have a youth speaker that week? Sometimes during the meeting, along with a couple adult speakers, we get the chance to hear from one of our youth; someone from 11-18yo either young man or woman, and they will give a usually 5 minute talk as well. And yes, sometimes our Bishop will speak, but generally it is the members of the congregation that teach each other, the Bishop and his counselors (since he was gone when you visited, one of his counselors was presiding) just preside over the meeting.

Again, I continue to appreciate the respect you show toward others that are striving to follow Christ.
That meeting you went to after the Sacrament meeting was a Priesthood quorum meeting (Elders Quorum). Two weeks of the month, we hold Sunday School, which breaks down by age groups, with all adults that aren't called as teachers or other capacities in the Ward would attend together. The other two Sundays, Priesthood Quorums meet together, the Young Women groups meet together, and the Relief Society (adult women) meet together. In the case of a fifth Sunday, we hold a combined Sunday School under the direction of the Bishop.
As you experienced during Sacrament Meeting, members from the ward are asked by someone from the Bishopric (the person conducting when you attended was one of the Bishops Counselors - of which he has two) to speak on a topic. While asked to reference scripture, sometimes speakers do offer more personal testimony than verses. The Bishop and his Counselors rotate who is conducting from month to month, but the Bishop (unless he is not in attendance) always presides.
The Bishop and his counselors aren't often the ones who speak during Sacrament. The idea is that members instruct and teach each other, while the Bishop's main role is to look after the spiritual needs fairly directly as he meets with them and oversee the general instruction in Sacrament, Sunday School, and other meetings within the ward.
I love hearing testimonies from various fellow members on different gospel doctrines throughout the year as they're invited to speak.
Thank you for your effort to better understand those who are part of the LDS faith. I know I enjoyed attending various churches while I served an LDS mission in Germany. It's amazing to connect with others in our love for the Saviour.

Another great episode! I agree 100% that you do NOT need to be a Latter-day Saint to see God's power in your life. I have had the opportunity to work closely w many of the local pastors and church leaders in our area and I have seen miracles occur from their faith in Christ. I think the idea that our Church has to do all the important work in these last days is incorrect. President Oaks talked about this in his talk in October 2022 conference. I am so grateful for my friendships outside my church because I feel the "team" that Jesus is using to build His Kingdom is so much bigger than I expected. It is so interesting to see how I can be wrong and the true answer given by the Lord is so wonderful, that I don't mind being wrong. My friends outside my church have taught me so much that they have learned from the Savior. I think the main issue in President Nelson's talk is that we are unable to do what is required of us on our own power. We need to rely upon the Lord's power to do anything meaningful. Yoked to the Savior, we can change the world and prepare ourselves for the Second Coming of the Lord. I think He will clarify the doctrinal details, but He will be much more interested in our response when He asks us, like Peter, "Lovest thou me?" The Covenants that we all make with Christ help us to do this.

The main reason is that they don't believe the basis of the gospel. They believe in grace after all you can do, which isn't the gospel. God gives His grace freely, He doesn't "make up" for the works or areas we failed. We don't work for salvation, it's a gift of God we receive by faith and nothing else.
There is also the matter that they believe the true gospel died after the apostles and it took until the 1800s for the "true" gospel to be revived... meaning everyone between the deaths of the apostles and early church church 1800 that everyone that died in that time frame went to Hell since they didn't know the "true" gospel... using a verse out of context in Amos as a justication for this.

Those young men offering the prayers over the bread and water were the ones presiding over it. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has two "classes" of priesthood - the Aaronic (lower) priesthood which “holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism” (D&C 13:1) and is responsible for calling people onto Christ and meeting their physical needs. Through the exercise of this priesthood, the sacrament is prepared, blessed, and administered.
The Melchizedek Priesthood is the higher priesthood, which is responsible for spiritual matters, including Temple work.
The Aaronic priesthood can be conferred from the age of 12, but the Melchizedek generally requires someone to be an adult, and to be of sufficient spiritual maturity.

That statement about not having access to God’s power, at least the way you heard and explained it, may have been misunderstood. Of course anyone who seeks for God’s help, may have access to it. The Spirit or the Light of Christ is available to everyone who sincerely seeks and asks for it. If that were not the case, then how else could anyone know right from wrong, or truth when they hear it? I believe what that brother was referring to is the fact that as we make and keep sacred covenants, we are promised certain blessings here on earth and in the life hereafter. One of those blessings was stated in the Sacrament prayers. If we keep the covenants we made by partaking of the Sacrament, we would have the Holy Ghost to be with us. All of the Covenants we make are followed up with a promise and/or a blessing. I hope that makes sense and helps you understand a bit more clearly. And although I don’t go to Priesthood meetings, I know how we long life members can sound sometimes. Sorry on behalf of that.

Hello! I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and stumbled across your channel. I have watched several of your videos and I just want to say I appreciate your openness and willingness to seek and learn. You have such a nice disposition and a calm and respectful manner. That really means A LOT. I recognize that many or most Christian denominations do not always understand what we are about and say we are not even Christian. Obviously some of our doctrines do not fully align and there are differences. However we believe in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice which was made for each and every one of us, no matter what we might believe . Ultimately, we are all children of a loving God no matter what church we go to ( or no church at all). God loves all of us. We all are on different points along our journeys and learn and grow through our individual experiences. I love that although some of your beliefs do not align with ours, you continue to be respectful and that is SO important. It makes me SO happy to meet snd learn about others who are just trying to do what is right and live a life of goodness, honestly, integrity, kindness, etc. Ir makes me SO SO happy to meet people who are devout in their religion. I feel a connection and respect towards them. Thank you for being a good example and representative of your Protestant faith and also showing respect to us. We are all from the same God and I think in these days where we continue to have tough times in our world, it is of critical importance for all those seeking goodness and godliness support one another.
I just wanted to mention you said something along the lines of Latter-day Saints believe that only we have access to the power of God. That is not exactly true. It’s a little tricky to explain. We believe every person born is born with the Light of Christ. aWe all can be influenced by the Spirit and receive inspiration.
The people speaking in sacrament usually are given a topic with scripture references that they study for a week or two before giving their talks.
The reason there is no music while the sacrament is being passed is because it is intended as a time of quiet reflection. A time for prayer ( quietly in ones own head), a time to review our week and see what we could improve on. It’s a time for each individual to contemplate their own relationship with Jesus Christ. It is a time to start again with a clean slate so to speak. It’s quiet so people can have the mental and spiritual space to look at their own lives and how they can become more like Jesus Christ Our sacrament meetings are intended to be a place of inner searching, renewing commitments to follow Jesus . It is meant as a time of quiet reverence, worship, respect, self-reflection, etc.,
And, for some reason there are lots of musically talented individuals in our church. But I do not sing well at all but it’s ok because singing the hymns is another form of worship. I often feel the spirit as I sing the hymns at church. Anyways, I think you are great and I am glad you are a pastor and have the ability to influence and touch the lives of others and help people to follow the Savior. Thanks for all you do.

The thing that really grabbed my attention is when you said that their hearts and minds was open, they was down to earth and just wanted to do their best in worshipping the lord. That right there is the best explanation you can give of the people in the lds faith, and I personally believe that of other people in other faiths that have a legitimate desire for God. I am LDS, I haven't gone in a long time because of health and crowds. I do miss it. I have had a mindset myself that the ordinances are not the actual thing that does everything they are described to do, but they are at the same time. Ultimately it's all God and his power period, but with that being said I still believe they are necessary. I look at them has our personal sacrifice unto God or us carrying our own personal cross / carrying Jesus cross with him. In short giving away our earthly / fallen ways to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus. That's the same way with the priesthood for me. Do I believe the priesthood is legitimate? Yes, but the power comes from God himself. I don't believe everything has to be done a certain way or be a perfectly upstanding person in order for anyone to see the power or love of God. 99% of the people in the Bible was sinners to a high degree that God saved them from themselves and made into great people. I never agreed that you had to do everything perfectly in order for God to be in your life. A father doesn't stop being a father just because his children are misbehaving. A father doesn't abandon his children and stop providing for them when the child isn't doing everything perfect. That kind of mindset only brings shame and future dark paths. Keep doing what your doing pastor, I look forward to your videos.

I'm sorry about the comments in class!🙈 That made me cringe; I'm LDS and was kind of wondering during your video if something like that would happen. All I can say is that the power and love of God is for everyone and is experienced by people of all faiths. We're all doing our best to learn and don't always express ourselves well or understand things thoroughly. Since we can all speak up in class and discuss things together sometimes it veers off into people's opinions or best interpretations of doctrine. When I really want to make sure I know what the church's actual doctrine is I read the scriptures, Come Follow Me, or a conference talk. It's not always explained 100% at church. But I go to church to take the sacrament, and I think it's good for all of us to go there and worship together. I've probably said things in a cringy way when I've given talks so I can't really criticize, but as soon as you started talking about the discussion in class I was cracking up / embarrassed. But we're all doing our best!😁

You looked sharp. Glad the sun was shining. I had to walk through 4 inches of snow to get to church today. So happy you went, and I enjoyed your recap. Yes...a special thanks to your wife and kids for sharing you with us.

howdy wade . you and another comment referred to the pastor's wife and kids also sharing their experiences . where did you find his wife/kids comments , or am i reading too literally into your(s) comments .

@@johndouglasdahl It wasn't that Pastor Jeff's wife and kids shared their experiences with us, but rather they shared Pastor Jeff with us. In other words, they sacrificed their time with Pastor Jeff so that he could attend the LDS services and post for us a video about his experience.

I love this! Thank you for coming to our church! I wish more people would come and see for themselves that we are a group of imperfect people who love Jesus Christ, that we go to church to worship Him and are trying to follow His example. I love visiting other churches as well and also talking to people about what they believe. I've learned from and been inspired by people from other faiths. This was a very well done and respectful video.

Hi Jeff! I want to thank you for your openness to what you’re learning and your truly fair interpretation of what you are learning. As you conduct your investigation of the Church, I would invite you to add one extra step to your investigation and search not just to expand your understanding, but, more importantly, to learn for yourself if it’s true, which really would be the most valuable knowledge you could gain throughout this whole process.
I actually wanted to make one comment. You mentioned that during the second hour meeting you heard commentary that one would only have access to God’s power if temple covenant are made. In truth, as you accurately stated, God’s power and influence is available to all. No one faith or religion has a monopoly on it and all have access to it. It is through that power that we can all learn the truth of all things. We refer to that as the Light of Christ, and it is available to all! To receive higher, and constant, access to the power and influence of God, however, requires us to make covenants with God. For example, the first covenant we make in the church is through the ordinance of Baptism and the receiving of the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Through baptism (by one having authority), we covenant with God that we will take upon us the name of Jesus Christ, to always remember him and keep his commandments. In return, the Lord covenants with us that we will always have his spirit to be with us, which is having the constant presence and influence of the Holy Ghost in our life (see Book of Mormon, Mosiah 18:8-10). After Baptism, we receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost (also by one having authority). It is only through the power and influence of the Holy Ghost that one can receive a personal witness of the divinity of Jesus Christ, that He is the Son of God, that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God, or, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is what we (boldly) proclaim it to be: the true church of Jesus Christ on the earth today. Or, in other words, it is only through the Holy Ghost that we can learn the truth of all things. We never ask anyone to just take our word for it nor will we ever try to to convince anyone of it…because we can’t. It doesn’t work that way. Conversion, or testimony, is a personal experience that happens only between you and God. What we can do is teach, bare witness (or testimony) and we can (and do! 😊) invite all to learn for themselves.
Anyway, I think the point that was meant to be conveyed in the meeting was that covenants are necessary to open up the windows of heaven beyond what can be attained without them. I hope that helps clarify. Again, I appreciate the honest and unbiased exploration you’re taking in your journey. It really is refreshing to see people learn and investigate without predetermined conclusions or biases. I hope you keep looking and learning! Thanks!

I am so grateful for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! The feelings I have received and get from hearing talks and testimonies in sacrament meetings and other church classes have helped me to be a better person! The church is true! The spirit has born witness to me so many times in so many different settings I cannot ignore those feelings!!

I wish more people were open minded like you. I searched for a church for a long time went to many different denominations and ended up as a latter-day Saint. I totally respect your journey and your videos and channel for what you’re doing. At least it may dispel a lot of myths that people might have. I liked and I subscribed.

Thanks so much for making this video! I’m a convert to the church and it reminded me of what I thought and felt my first time, attending Sacrament. Very different than what I was used to.
I truly appreciate you going in with an open heart and mind and sharing your experience with your audience. This could do so much to dispel the misconceptions many have of what our faith is all about.

I love sitting in a congregation when everyone is singing together. I think it's very powerful. I do have some holy envy for protestants who have high church worship and of Catholic mass. I wish we listened to professional speakers/teachers sometimes, though I see the value in everyone from the congregation participating and having opportunities to bear testimony.
