I'm the piper. I know there has been pipers in the past so I'm just continuing the tradition. I don't take money, it's just service to help greet people coming to a session. It also helps keep the situation from escalating with protestors. The police have asked for me to come back as it helps their job.

Although I don't think they should be made wealthy from what they do, I wouldn't call them con artists... If you don't mind me asking, why come to this comment section? My mother has made comments such as she “wished all Mormons were dead” and “why would anybody marry a Mormon” in front of her LDS grandchildren. My sister didn’t talk to me for two years. • @richlopez5896
      @richlopez5896 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Your mother would be wrong for her comment. She would be right for being upset. Jesus Christ established the Catholic Church and it never fell into any need for "restoration" or it would mean Jesus was either a liar or failure. There is also the fact that Mormon beliefs didn't exist anywhere on the planet until the 1820's with Joseph Smith creating them. There has never been any language called "Reformed Egyptian" and any and all Eygyptologists will state that. There has never been any people in history called "Nephites" or "Laminites" and the only place they are talked of is in the Book of Mormon which has thousands of changes to it since 1830 when the original Mormons thought Christ was to return(He didn't). There are other problems with the Book of Mormon. For example, critics of Mormonism have shown convincing proof that the Book of Mormon is a synthesis of earlier works (written by other men), of the vivid imaginings of Joseph Smith, and of plagiarisms from the King James Bible.
The only Bible that Joseph Smith relied on was the King James Version. This translation was based on a good but imperfect set of Greek and Hebrew manuscripts of the Bible.
Scholars now know that this Textus Receptus contained errors, which means the King James Version contains errors. The problem for Mormons is that these exact same errors show up in the Book of Mormon.
It seems reasonable to assume that if Smith was a prophet of God and was translating the Book of Mormon under divine inspiration, he would have known about the errors found in the King James Version, and would have corrected them for when passages from the King James Version appeared in the Book of Mormon. But the errors went in.Joseph Smith repeatedly changed from preaching polytheism and then back to monotheism. The Book of Mormon is not historical or scientifically accurate. The LDS also lack a valid baptism and have no valid sacraments which includes communion.
      HOW OLD IS YOUR CHURCH?
If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex-monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.
If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarry.
If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.
If you are a Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England founded by Samuel Seabury in the American colonies in the 17th century.
If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.
If you are a Methodist, your religion was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.
If you are a Unitarian, Theophilus Lindley founded your church in London in 1774.
If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, N.Y., in 1829.
If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1605.
If you are of the Dutch Reformed church, you recognize Michaelis Jones as founder, because he originated your religion in New York in 1628.
If you are a member of the Churches of Christ your church began near the beginning of the 19th century in New England. Abner Jones, Barton Stone and Alexander Campbell were some of the most well known originators of your religion.
If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865.
If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.
If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as "Church of the Nazarene," "Pentecostal Gospel," "Holiness Church," "Pilgrim Holiness Church," "Jehovah's Witnesses," your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past century.
If you are Catholic, you know that your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ the Son of God, and it is still the same Church.
“The Lord says to Peter: ‘I say to you,’ he says, ‘that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.’ . . . On him [Peter] he builds the Church, and to him he gives the command to feed the sheep [John 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed, the others were that also which Peter was [i.e., apostles], but a primacy is given to Peter, whereby it is made clear that there is but one Church and one chair. So too, all [the apostles] are shepherds, and the flock is shown to be one, fed by all the apostles in single-minded accord. If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he imagine that he still holds the faith? If he [should] desert the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he still be confident that he is in the Church?”- St. Cyprian of Carthage (The Unity of the Catholic Church 4; 1st edition [A.D. 251]).

@@richlopez5896 Just my honest thoughts and feelings brother. Not trying to demonize you or call you dumb. Jesus Christ actually didn't establish the catholic church because he had and still has prophets and apostles leading it. You're pretty ignorant about the reformed Egyptian stuff as pretty educated Lds and non Lds have debunked such criticisms. The prophet Joseph Smith was aware of incorections of the holy bible. Hence, there was work for it known as the Joseph Smith translation. Never was completed because of blood thirsty haters that had Joseph Smith murderered. We believe we are Jesus Christ's original, restored church that predates roman catholicism and not a church Joseph Smith came up with in 1830. I can't believe in catholicism for its obvious compromises with roman paganism. But do I hate you or want to cause harm to you for being in my old catholic faith I originally adhered to? No. I could be very malicious and despicably hateful to you as many of your catholic flock are to me. But I choose not to since I really do believe in Jesus Christ too. I don't blame just about any catholic for believing in Catholicism just for sheerly its vast numbers and, or merely its long history. However, for at least all those years you say Jesus Christ's church was still around, why not reach out to the millions of ancient americans? Not even once even for the other thousands of years BCE? It is far too alarming that it would take God almighty and His church around 1,492 years to make contact with His many kids on other side of world. Many ancient Americans were no worse and just as bright as their brethren and sisters in the old world. Personally, there's just far too many changes and differences from biblically Christianity and Christian behavior than what I keep seeing in catholic ranks. No surprise at all there was a huge split between the catholic church, meaning there is very so two catholic faiths with same claim of course, and an eventual protestant reformation by many catholics to fix the obviously corrupt catholic faith. The vicious and obnoxious drunkenness alone is one thing I easily disqualify catholicism from its claim of being founded by God the son. The same who is a God of peace, balance, and order which doing drugs like alcohol is completely contrary too. Babies absolutely do not have sin either. The rock upon which Jesus Christ built His church was revelation and not peter. Peter was the chief apostle but not the arch bishop of rome with intentions to have just one line of apostolic succesion. The actuality of the great and quite obvious apostasy, clearly brutal and very divided man's version of Christianity is not the same as Jesus lying or his church failing. It's mankind that fails and is lying so God just isn't going to leave His church in the hands of quite vain and anti humble people. The vatican and the popes have been far too flamboyant, decked out or adorned, big, imperial, and extravagant for the humble non vain followers of Jesus Christ. But a spot for believers nonetheless that want meaning in their life. I can on and on but it's your life and decision. You go your way as I go about mine. Tried catholicism plenty and it just don't function at all. If it does to you, than good for you. I don't think you're bad. Just being honest in believing and aware of too much bad in catholicism to take it seriously. To each their own.

I too liked Pastor Jeff's open mindedness that allowed him to take a brief look at the LDS Church. Sometimes, looking back at the telling of Christ's life within the four gospels, I am struck by the way that the leaders of "the Church" at the time of Jesus Christ, that is the Chief Priest, priests, members of the Sanhedrin, Sadducees, Pharisees, and scribes, had strayed from God and were often teaching their religious traditions without the spirit teaching them. They didn't recognize their own Messiah when he was among them and instead persecuted him unto death. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I see with admiration the organization of the Melchizedek and Aaronic Priesthoods that run the LDS Church, the good influence of the internal teaching upon the lives of adherents, the good fruits of the scriptures (i.e. The Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon, etc.) upon LDS members, the good influence upon Communities, and the good that the church and its members do around the world in times of earthquakes, famine, tsunami, wars, etc. These "Good Fruits" tell investigators much about the LDS Church for by its fruits a tree is known according to Christ. I wonder then if many people don't recognize a modern-day prophet when they see one? I ask, hasn't God always communicated through prophets to mankind? There is no effort by LDS prophets to add to the Holy Bible itself, or expand it, though Joseph Smith had sought to correct some translation errors before his assassination. The Book of Mormon is a separate book from the Bible. In Ezekiel 37:19 we read about two "sticks," a stick being the parchment scroll of ancient times. The stick of Judah being the Bible, the stick of Jospeh being The Book of Mormon in the view of Latter-day Saints. I sometimes wonder about the time that the resurrected Jesus taught up to 500 people after his crucifixion and resurrection where is the record of all that he taught over a 40-day period? Did someone write down his teaching during those glorious days? If they were found would modern Christians reject those teachings because they have the Bible?

Remember before you ignore this question, Pilate asked this question of Jesus (John 18:38), but wasn't sincere in the question. He turned and walked away from Jesus without waiting for an answer.
Truth is knowledge! “This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (John 17:3.) Truth defined is found in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Loved this video...my wife was raised Protestant in Provo, Utah. I completely understand your comments about "not being convinced." I'm LDS and met my wife after returning home from my mission in Chile. We'd have hours and hours of conversations on doctrine, beliefs, the Bible, why do we need a prophet, word of wisdom, tithing, literally everything during college. The conversations were awesome, we really grew to love each other through sharing our beliefs. I remember telling her one night, until you read The Book of Mormon, with real intent, with a humble heart, a heart that is ready to hearken to the inspiration you receive, you will never really know. In Paris in 2003, my wife, on her own there for study abroad, with no outside influence, read the Book of Mormon. It was between her and her Heavenly Father, she wanted to get to the bottom of all this discovery. For her, it wasn't about being "right" it was about discovering the truth for herself, not influenced by me, her parents, her LDS and non-LDS friends, she wanted to know the truth. Jeff, no one will will ever be able to convince you, this is a matter of your heart being willing to listen and follow as you discover it for yourself. All your LDS friends, including me, are rooting you on to read The Book of Mormon, and as Moroni said, do it with real intent, I know you will come closer to Jesus Christ through this. Thanks for all the great work, you are inspiring me in so many ways.

It's funny because I was about to write something similar to this (minus the part about your wife) :) but I have to 2nd everything this post says. Bottom line, the Book of Mormon is where your focus ought to be over just about everything else about the church. The entire religion rides on whether that book is true or not. If it's true then Joseph Smith was a prophet. If it isn't, he wasn't. Only the sincere seeker of truth will read it and pray to know of its veracity. Only a witness from God will "convince" you and the only way to get that is to ask. I can't deny that I about jumped out of my seat and ran to the TV to watch this when I saw that you attended general conference. It's quite an experience. God bless you Jeff. I was born & raised LDS ( Mom's from Provo too she grew up with her little cousin Dallon Oaks 😂🤣😂) I left "the church" in 1978, but took my upbringing with me I still tithe ( to ministries, wounded warriors & children's hospitals) while raising my 4 children we had family home evening ( on Friday until our son joined football then it moved to Saturday. It got to once a month each kid had 1 friend spend that night they all loved the concept of playing board games after a family meal & getting to know what our kids were doing. Their struggles & triumphs. They would suggest their (friends) parents to try the same. It didn't often work out but now I know of 1 of my daughters friends does this with her family they have a successful family now 6 kids 1 in college 2 in highschool 1 in middle school 2 in elementary. Still have college kid once a month.
I know there's only 1 God He only had 1 "begotten" son who is my Lord & Savior, I learned this from my parents too. They accepted me for who I became & loved me in spite of leaving the church. I know it made them sad but I did (when I spent one of my Dad's last years with them so Mom could continue to work) I went to fast & testimony meetings with them every month. It didn't matter 3 years later burying Mom Dallon spooky at her funeral. Nobody knew who I was they were I guess jealous I got front row seating. I could hear whispers "who's that?" It hurt 🤕! The church was full even in the overflow. I heard not 1 word Dallon said but their cousin Evelyn I heard her then I was jealous I never got to know that woman. She who laughed at every chance she was forced to stand in judgement of her own daughter because of her religion. Sad all around if you ask me 🙂 anyway I pray for ALL my brothers and sisters LDS or not I hope to see you all in Heaven 🙏 🙏 🙏

My dad was raised Methodist and converted to Latter-day Saint at 29. He taught us to be kind to our extended family who were Methodist and Baptist, and there was always an open communication, acceptance, and love between all. My parents didn't want us to be "blind followers" and encouraged us to find out as much as possible, not only about our own religion, but about all religions. They sent us to VBS every summer, and we were always encouraged to visit other churches when invited. I think it strengthened our own faith and beliefs, and being able to understand scripture from various perspectives is important!!!

@@TheMikesmith1964 yes Mike, I have learned from my 4 years on Quora how much Evangelicals HATE us with a passion that is almost psychopathological. They are hypocrites who obviously cherry-pick the scriptures which suit them. I will just quote two scriptures: John 15: "12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.", john 13: "34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." Where is the love Brother Mike? Also, I wish Pastor Jeff wouldn't refer to Protestantism as if it were one big happy non-Roman Catholic family, because it is not. Who preaches another gospel? Protestant denominations can't agree when the so-called "Rapture" - a word not found in the Bible - is going to occur, pre-Tribulation, mid-Tribulation, or post-Tribulation. (It is post-Tribulation). Every Protestant denomination teaches different beliefs from each other. Lutherans have nothing in common with Baptists. But which Baptists am I referring to? If I was talking about Methodists, which Methodists am I referring to? Apparently, it doesn't matter that Calvinists have nothing in common with the Salvation Army. Just so long as you can all "diss" Latter-day Saints by calling us a "cult". After studying about cults for years, the revelation I received from the Holy Spirit is that, despite the opinion of Pastor Jeff (I am old enough to be his father), what it comes down to is that we are not Trinitarian. You have your free will to believe what you want to believe, and you have the right to express your view. Hi Lauren. I was very touched by what you wrote. I am a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When I was 21 I became a full-time missionary, and served for 18 months. I was called to serve the wonderful people of Perú. At the beginning of my mission (when I was learning Spanish), I was in a class, studying about when Joseph Smith asked God, in sincere prayer, which church he should join (because he was confused by the different teachings among the churches in that day). A video was then shown - in Spanish (which I still didn't understand or speak yet) - about Joseph Smith and this very situation. When Joseph knelt and prayed for an answer to his question, he received a visitation from God the father and his son, Jesus Christ, who told him to join none of the churches at that time because the full Gospel of Christ was no longer on the Earth. At that very scene in the video, I was overcome with a very powerful and spiritual witness from the Holy Spirit that this this really did happen to Joseph Smith - that he actually saw God, the Father, and his son, Jesus Christ, who actually spoke to Joseph. I had never before experienced anything like it. And just like Joseph, I could not deny that I had received a sure witness. At that moment, I knew I would be bringing the full and true gospel to the people of Perú - where indeed, I saw many miracles.
I would love to talk with you anytime, and answer any questions you might have.

What is fiction and why?Joseph Smith wrote blasphemous fiction that is at odds with Bible and venerated it to scripture as well as uttered contradictious prophecies which disqualifies his authority. Joseph Smith's "translated"/defiled Bible along with other made up scripture is in opposition to the truth since the Bible was never lost. 1,000 manuscripts of the Old Testament oldest of which date to the Dead Sea Scrolls year 150 Before Christ. There are 5,800 manuscripts of the New Testament some of the oldest being found in the Bodmer Papyri year Anno Domini 150. Thats right, the oldest New Testament manuscript dates to just 50 years after the Apostles first gave the word and validates the mainline Bibles of today! Unless of course one believes Joseph Smith set those 6,800 manuscripts right with his vandalised text.

    Part 2:
As my wife read The Book of Mormon in Paris she noticed that more light and wisdom began to fill her soul. She had light. She had knowledge. The light was just increasing. She was learning more about Jesus Christ, and she loved Him, and so she loved reading. It became completely personal for her. Of all the revelations we have received during this dispensation the one she came to know most profoundly was that God and Jesus Christ were real, and absolutely aware of her, they were concerned with her personally. This was profound. Reading was amazing, the feelings of peace were hers and hers alone. Those same feelings she had experienced in her Protestant church and when reading The Bible or serving others. Remember, we read the scriptures to be inspired by the spirit to know what to do. How to serve. How to lift. Changes we need to make, “nets” we need to put down and humility and meekness we need to pick up. The Book of Mormon is just a tool, like Nephi’s need for tools to build a ship, or Peter’s need for increased faith to walk on water, not for the sake of just building or walking, but for what these tools and faith can build in us, what vessel we can become. Increased capacity to serve others, endure trials, a greater love of keeping the commandments, a greater love for others, higher capacity to become meek, an increased awarenesss of the poor and needy. Charity brothers and sisters, the pure love of Christ. This is our pursuit. To become like Him. Not just knowing something is true. Recall that the final judgement will be very little about what we know or even what we have done…..it will be centered on what we have become.
And who should we be trying to be like…
Jesus Christ was a master teacher, servant, disciple, follower, leader, He was humble and kind, obedient and meek, He has shown us the way. The Book of Mormon, Bible, prayer, prophets ancient and modern, the temple……they all point us to becoming more like Him. This is what making and keeping covenants is all about. “Making” is centered on the faith that these covenants will help us, “keeping” is centered on sailing the ship in service, carrying others across dangerous waters which in turn brings us safely to the promised land which is home again with Him.
The Bible is true. Jesus was resurrected and lives today, He is totally aware of each one of us. We can overcome this world and become more like Him.

Evangelism comes from the Greek words euaggelion - a good message, or gospel - and euaggelizo - to announce, declare, bring, or preach this good news. Notice the word “angel” tucked inside the word - an angel is a messenger. Those who practice evangelism are indeed delivering a message: One of extraordinarily good news, life-giving and transformative, with eternal ramifications. The evangelical church is a broad term coined by C.S. (Jack) Lewis to describe everyone who adheres to the most crucial of orthodox Christian beliefs.

I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I just wanted to say a few things. Thank you for being so kind and open minded about the experience and thank you for your desire to understand, it’s greatly appreciated. One of the things that if possible I’d like to shed some light on is the Book of Mormon. The Bible has Jesus’s ministry from birth to resurrection, and as long as it is translated correctly it is wonderful and we absolutely love it. The Book of Mormon has the history of the people in the Americas as well as (most importantly) Jesus Christ’s ministry in the Americas which took place after his resurrection.
One of the reasons we frequently refer to it as the most correct book on Earth is due to the fact that it was only translated from the original text once, through a prophet, while there are so many variations and different translations of the Bible that looking at many, while there are similarities, there are also differences and areas of confusion amongst them.
The Bible is wonderful and we’ve spent all of 2022 studying the Old Testament during Sunday school and will do a year of the New Testament starting in the new year (followed by a year of the Book of Mormon, and then the Doctrine and Covenants, and then start over again). We love and live by the Living Revelation and the Book of Mormon because it makes everything clearer. Rather than looking at one dot (the Bible) and it’s multiple translations (lines going in multiple directions through that dot) we also have another dot (The Book of Mormon) and other dots (Revelation from the living prophets and apostles) that create one and only one line that goes straight through all of those dots and further strengthening our beliefs and providing more clarity (sorry that became a math/graph analogy, but I think visuals aid understanding, at least for me).
Again thank you for your openness and kindness and willingness to explore and desire to understand my faith and beliefs, it’s a beautiful thing to have people seeing us as people and as believers/followers of Christ, seeing us as who we are.

@@theephraimite I am not sure exactly what you believe about the Trinity, but I can agree that that word does not appear in Scripture. However, the Trinity is an example of what we call systematic theology vs. a literal theology which only uses words found in the Bible to explain concepts in the Bible. Without being able to use other words to explain concepts that are wholly rooted in the Bible, I could not summarize the entire Bible very succinctly. I can still back up each concept that I believe from the Bible with Biblical evidence. This is longer than I anticipated, but I would be willing to show you the evidence for the Trinity if you ask. I know you are sincere in what you believe, but from trying to truly read the New Testament, I've concluded that if anyone were to read it without bias and with prayer to God for discernment, the LDS Book of Mormon would contradict it and in doing so would have to contradict it again because Revelations 21:18-19 say that nothing more can be added to or taken away from the Word of God. If your trust is in Christ as the Savior, I love you as a sibling under God. If not, I love you as someone lost, but sure of God's existence. I found a copy in the garbage and began reading it. I heard a young lady give a talk in church about praying and asking God to know if the book was true. I was about 10 -11 years old. I prayed and my life was changed forever. That prayer brought me to the knowledge of the reality of the savior, that he knows me personally and that he loves me and wants me to be able to come back into his and God's presence. It was a deeply spiritual experience that influenced me over many months, and years. It opened my mind and heart. This knowledge helped me to repent and to work and to strive to follow Him. It also came with a love for others and a desire to share this truth with the world. I worked and prepared for a mission, which I was able to serve in England. LDS constantly talk about feelings, which is fine in general, but there is no archeological evidence of the Book of Mormon, and Joseph Smith clearly took advantage of plural marriage which God did NOT ordained ever, Sarah said to Abraham, take Hagar, but God didn’t, read Genesis!. Joseph Smith got caught with Fany Alger, and from there we see the “revelation” of plural marriage. So, I’d be careful to be apart of a church based only on my feelings. God is real, Jesus is real. Your a great guy, because you approach us with kindness and respect. When I was growing up it was common for people of other faiths to tell me I was going to hell etc. I grew up down the street from the Mesa Temple. Every year there was an Easter Pagent.. I saw those same type of people holding signs, yelling at us, some people said they wished our Temple would burn down and asked me which wife I was (I was a teenager). Just on and on. People were mean.
I always wanted to have great conversations with those outside of my faith and share beliefs without judgement. Just share..
Later on, I finally had friends which I could talk freely with. It’s interesting to hear the difference in beliefs and celebrate the common ones.

Another thing, the latter-day Saints are kind a really Weaved into the politics of the United States that may sound good but the end of this. I began to wake up from the JW's (Jehovah's Witnesses) by reading about Mormons and watching videos entitled.."I was a Mormon".
Then John Dehlin's excommunication was broadcast on television. I started following him and I noticed a ton of similarities between the JW's and the Mormons. This was an eye-opener for me!!
After that I got the courage to go to TH-cam and look up.. "Why do people leave the Jehovah's Witnesses faith"...that's when I really started waking up!
I became obsessed listening to all ExJW stories on TH-cam and the FEAR of the "so called" apostates that we are taught to detest started to become a different reality, they are just people telling their experiences when they were an active JW and why they left.
So all the stigma started to dwindle.
Then I branched out and started looking into Seventh Day Adventist, Scientology, Christadelphians, The Brethren, Christian Science.
I started noticing the parallels between all the religions, and it runs deep...no questioning, no doubting and everything comes from the top down.
The rank-and-file are just the followers with no personal self, no individuality.
After you wake up and start seeing these things it can take a toll on you, especially if this is the only thing you have known all of your life.
Therapy is definitely a must when waking up!
I can now honestly say that life is better on the outside! 💯

Beautiful! Thank you so much for your thoughts! I grew up 7th Day Adventist and I had the same thoughts but when I read the Book of Mormon and I received my testimony things changed. One thing about revelation, so much has changed since the bible was written and we need guidance to know how to handle things. One of the councils that I had from our prophet a few years ago, was to control the amount of social media I consume and rely on personal revelation. Just those two things helped me realised the importance of a prophet. Of course, I can tell you all my experiences over the years. I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a return missionary. I had a few strong Catholic friends growing up in CA, and a few other faiths, but we didn’t share much. I loved suddenly holding hands and praying with people in their homes, not caring about our philosophical differences, but instead enjoying our commonalities! What I find most of us agree on: there is purpose to our existence, faith and how we live demonstrating that faith is meaningful, and when Jesus judges us, we’ll all have some “aha!” moments and want to progress more, or not. I think you’ll enjoy some of the clarifying teachings the Book of Mormon offers, such as Alma chapter 7. Thank you for all you do to bring people to Christ!

Jeff, you're open-mindedness is refreshing in this time of so much enmity between people. BTW, thanks Tim for the music - I love bagpipes. Anyway, Jeff, I am ex-mormon but unlike so many that have left the church because of some personal conflict, mine was doctrinal, but I have nothing but admiration for the LDS people. My son and daughter-in-law both went on missions and are active LDS today. I will be forever grateful for the support and teachings that helped me and my family the many years that we were active members. Weekly we received talks on self-improvement, effective parenting, self-sufficiency and preparedness that contributed greatly to the people we are and the situation we find ourselves in today (we're happy with both). Much of the problem with our society today is that people generally have no anchor and drift off into more and more warped life views that have little to do with reality. The culture of the church and the social support network is something my wife and I miss. It took us many years to come to terms with the loss after we chose a different path. My spirituality is based on a near-death experience I had when I was young and even though I am not religious (nor christian) anymore, I support christians and follow christian principles because the alternative can be seen every day in our society. I do not understand people waving signs and yelling or even the passion with which people protest the church. My thought is, let people believe what they want. There is so much that needs to be done in the world to make it a better place - put your efforts there. Thank you again for the open-minded fair evaluation of such an incredible people and culture.

Mormons don't believe that God is 3 in 1 either, which is wrong. You also believe that once you're married, you wear "holy" white clothing, which is wrong , too. You really need to look deep into why your beliefs are wrong. As far as I remember, y'all only believe in the old testament and not the new as well, which is also wrong. I pray you're saved sooner than later.

You are correct; In Deuteronomy 4:2 Moses declares, “You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commands of the Lord your God which I command you.” The only way in which we can rightly “keep” God's commands is to not add or subtract from his word. HOWEVER; the Book of Mormon is not an add on to the bible. It is meant to be studied alongside the bible. Each book supports the other's teachings. Both describe God's interactions with people in a different area of the world and teach the same principles. Thanks for mentioning about how the members all stand when the prophet comes in. I know that sometimes Latter Day Saints are accused of worshiping Jospeh Smith and it might seem weird that we revere a human being so much (our prophet). More than ever, I believe that prophets are regular human beings who have flaws and still sin like every other human being. But I also believe that they have a calling from God to reveal truth to the world. Believing this way has actually increased my faith because even through the flaws of men recorded in the history of the church, I am amazed that God could create something beautiful and reveal pieces of truth through these flawed mortal beings. I feel the same way when I feel God working through me. How could I possibly be worthy of Him wanting to use me in His work??? It's a beautiful thing to me. I see God working through Pastor Jeff and I'm so grateful for the love and kindness the Pastor shows that I feel reflects a bit of God's love and understanding. To contrast how most members of the church react to a prophet versus how we see God: When a prophet walks into the room, I will stand to show my gratitude that God has sent a prophet. But if Jesus Christ himself walked into the room, I would fall to my knees at his feet and sob. I would throw myself to the ground and hope for the chance to bathe his feet with my tears.

My mother was a young lady around 19 or 20 when she was approached by two elders (young men) from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Around the same time, she was also approached by a Jehovah's Witness missionary (a woman), who warned her to next time, tell the Mormon elders to go away. Mom didn't do that. Seriously, I have NEVER known my mother to ever tell anyone to go away. She even listens to telemarketers. She probably won't buy what you're selling, but she'll listen to you.
Anyway, this apparently went on for a bit, with the elders saying one thing and the JW contradicting them. As you can imagine, Mom was pretty confused. So she had the brilliant idea to bring the Mormon elders and the JW together for a religious debate/discussion.
The elders arrived first and sat on the couch, with their hands on their laps. The JW arrived next, with backup. The two JWs immediately began attacking the elders, the Book of Mormon, and the LDS church. They pointed to verses in the Bible to support their argument. They challenged the elders to prove them wrong. But the elders just sat there, hands in their laps. They listened but would not engage in debate. Finally, the two JWs had enough. I guess they decided that Mom was beyond salvation, and they left in a HUFF. That's when the elders opened the Book of Mormon and began teaching Mom the first discussion. My mother was soon baptized, and she has been a faithful member of the Church ever since.
And she would always tell us that what really drew her to the LDS church wasn't so much what the elders or anyone else said. Rather, it was their lack of a contentious spirit. The elders were polite, and they listened. God does not need us to prove anything or fight battles for him. I could show you scripture verses proving I'm right, and you could point to verses that prove you're right. But heated religious debates are pretty much never fruitful.

Hi Jeff! As a Latter Day Saint myself, I just wanted to thank you for being open minded enough to actually attend a couple of General Conference sessions! I have love and respect for you for having been willing to do this. I know it can be awkward stepping outside of what we are used to. I have felt this awkwardness many times in visiting other churches of other denominations. I very much appreciated hearing your thoughts regarding your experience while being there at the Conference Center! Thank you also for speaking with some of the protestors and letting them know perhaps there is a more peaceful way (and a better time!) for them to attempt getting their messages heard by the Saints. This is lengthy, but I wanted to take a moment to provide clarification on something you stated about Latter Day Saints giving you the impression that the Holy Bible is somehow "insufficient" for a person's salvation. I must say, in my whole time as a member, I have never heard that taught, nor have I ever taught it myself. In other words, it's not part of our doctrine. The Holy Bible is actually a precious book of sacred scriptures to us! We teach the Gospel from it as we would with any of the scriptures our Father in Heaven has given to the world. In fact, the Old Testament has been our course of study in Sunday School for this past year (2022). We love and revere the Holy Bible, and we appreciate its great worth. We believe it tells the history of God's dealings with His children from the time of creation, on up to the crucifixion, and even of Christ's appearing to many after His resurrection. We know it then goes on to give important revelations of things pertaining to the latter days and of Christ's second coming. We truly know that countless Christians have come to Christ on the influence of the Holy Bible alone, because it contains a testament of our beloved Savior, again, all the way from the Old Testament's prophesying of His coming, to all that transpired during His ministry in the Middle East while here on the Earth with us as recorded in the New Testament. All of which are very precious accounts and moving stories from actual historic events for all the world to learn from, take to heart, and to live by on our Christian journeys. The Book of Mormon gives the account of God's dealings with the early inhabitants of the American continents, and ultimately of Christ's appearing to them (His "other sheep" as mentioned in the Bible) before returning to Heaven to remain there with the Father until His second coming when we shall greet Him again. It really is a huge misconception on the part of those who may be looking in from outside the church, that the Bible is somehow regarded as less important to us than the scriptures we have been given in more modern times (latter day times). We simply feel that ALL scriptures and accounts of our Savior are important, and are given for the benefit of all God's children. All scriptures help us to better know Christ, to help us come to Him to repent and be forgiven, and to understand what He expects of us if we want to be His disciples. It is possible that what someone may miss while studying a particular testament of Christ might later be found by them when reading another testament of Christ. This cannot be a bad thing if both testaments teach the way to salvation through Christ, the same gospel, and eventually gets a brother or sister to the same end result, eternal life. Jeff, I am really excited that you have promised to read the Book of Mormon! After doing so, I think you will agree, it presents Christ and the Christian principles He wants us to live by in a simple and easy to understand way, especially due to its being translated only one time, and perhaps this is where people get hung up over it... due to the single translation of the Book of Mormon, we therefore feel it remains as accurate as it was originally written by the ancient American prophets. Whereas, today's King James version of the Bible, due to multiple translations over the centuries, could vary slightly from the original texts, simply due to honest human error by its translators and scribes (and from some self-serving influence from certain Kings). But again, regardless of whether this is so, ALL scriptures that point us to Christ and salvation through Him are for the benefit of mankind - not for contention between denominations of the Christian faith. Thank you, Jeff! Looking forward to more videos from you!

Joseph Smith and ALL the leaders of Mormonism have now been literally documented, verified and proven liars of Mormon history, doctrines and finances!
Anyone that is actually honest with themselves and with God knows full well - Jesus Christ would never tell his "only true church" to whitewash, cover up, deceive and outright lie about its history doctrines and finances, never!

Hi Pastor Jeff, I'm glad that you were able to attend General Conference and I love watching your videos. My ancestors are Waldensian and I was raised Southern Baptist as a child, I became a Roman Catholic as a teenager and went to seminary for the Catholic Priesthood. After Seminary I joined the Orthodox Church where I was ordained to the Priesthood and after a period of time, I was appointed as a Bishop. On August 20th, 2022 I was Baptized and Confirmed into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For me, It was a matter of finding the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And you are correct it's not just about the church, the church doesn't like to use the word Mormon anymore but the Mormon culture is very unique much like the Waldensian culture.

Brother, what a lovely testimony. I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints as well. I was converted by reading the Book of Mormon. I found a copy in the garbage and began reading it. I heard a young lady give a talk in church about praying and asking God to know if the book was true. I was about 10 -11 years old. I prayed, asked and got an answer. My life was changed forever. From this experience, i worked, prepared and saved to serve a mission. I was grateful to be able to serve in England. What a profound and wonderful experience that was. I look forward to being able to serve again.

Thanks Pastor Jeff, your respect and desire to understand us is inspiring and Christ-like. I converted LDS from an evangelical faith 26 years ago. It’s been a beautiful journey! The Holy Spirit I felt previously was on steroids when I was baptised LDS. That’s all the evidence I need. That beautiful spirit continues, whether I’m reading the Bible or the Book of Mormon. They both contain the Word of God. Thanks for your sincere search for Truth. You are helping us and hopefully evangelicals too to understand one another. My husband is evangelical so this topic is personal. Thanks for your beautiful example. May you be blessed 🙏😊

@@jamesburkhart1658 I started to question the church at 12 years old. At 12 years old you have a meeting with the bishop (equivalent to a pastor) to get your temple recommend to do baptisms for the dead. You are told that the bishop has the “gift of discernment” which pretty much means the can tell if you are lying. I lied about paying my tithing every week and he still gave me my temple recommend. So I knew that the “gift of discernment” wasn’t real. Also 12 years old girls alone in a room with the bishop who is old enough to be your father/grandfather and they are asking you if you touch yourself is NOT okay. which you don’t understand until your an adult. And lastly when I was 17 I was taught that in heaven they still practice polygamy. So when my husband and I died my his would have multiple wives and I would just have to deal with it. So I left a few weeks after I turned 18

I loved watching this! I’m also not LDS but I am very passionate about Christ’s call to unity of the body. The LDS church (specifically the missionaries I spoke to and made friends with) served as a key and integral role in my faith development and acceptance of Jesus into my life. Regardless of the differences in theology and ideology between different Christian denominations (I do consider LDS folks Christians), I have no doubt on my mind that LDS people love and believe in the same Jesus we do, because it is Jesus’ love that radiates from all of us. Differences in opinion will fade away eventually - Jesus’ perfect love will not, and I’ve seen that love emitted from LDS folks, Evangelicals, Catholics, “Progressive” Christians, etc. I hope we can all learn to embrace our differences more and focus primarily on the love we should have and give to one another before we argue about theological or ideological differences, and videos like these are great examples of how we can learn more about each other. Thank you for doing this and documenting it for us!

@@alexwendt2703 Alex, the Bible taught the believers in the Old Testament to repent of their sins by acknowleding their sin and sacrificing cattle to atone for their sins. In other words they gave up personal property as a way to change their hearts, minds and wills from wrong to right. In the New Testament, the Apostles Peter and Paul taught the people a higher law to repent of their sins not by sacrificing their cattle, but by giving a broken and contrite heart (sacrificing ourselves by acknowledging the mistake we made, asking for forgiveness, and then restoring that which was lost because of our actions). This higher law is what Christ taught. Salvation is a free gift just like water and air are free for us to use. But just like with air, we must breath (action) or water we must drink (action). Salvation is freely available, but you must take action and change or you won't be a partaker of it.
