    Would a guy have to take out the old cracked terra cotta tiles before installing the liner, or can you leave them in as they are?

    What you call chimney liner is what we used to call exhaust pipe in my diesel mechanics shop.
    Or at least it looks like exhaust pipe.

    Do you seal the insert and/or flashing to the masonry? Would it be possible to use an existing ash dump to supply air directly from outside to reduce drafts in the house?

    dont u loose most the heat going uo the brick chimney then have it condensate on the brick chimney in the attic?

    Do you suggest a block off plate on top of the insert to reduce the heat loss to the chimney? Thanks

      shouldnt need one with an insert. Thats the whole point, that you can restrict airflow with the actual wood stove.

      It makes perfectly sense. In my country they use such insulating plate above the insert.

    My fireplace is not a brick masonry fireplace, but one of those pre-manufactured gas fireplace inserts. Can I remove the gas insert and install a wood-burning unit?

    I can’t find a clear cut answer to this without another answer contradicting it: my insert is fuego brand and has two doors and a metal latch. From what I’ve seen online, the manufacturers say to burn with the doors closed, but contrary to what they say, it seems like the firewood doesn’t last any longer with the doors closed and it seems like a lot more heat comes out with the doors open instead of closed. Would you say that the doors should remain open or closed while having a fire?

    Great video. Is there chimneys that these pieces won’t fit? Is there adaptors or alterations one can do. I have two flues in one chimney with a large cap. Thanks

    Does the part of a woodstove insert which sits inside the fireplace
    get as hot as a freestanding stove ?

    Do you not need a damper for the wood burning stove?

    Video is silent about whether an electrical outlet can be installed inside the chimney, and if running the power cord to the room, how the insert stays sealed against the wall with a cord running through it.

    Do you know the make and model of this insert? I like the looks of it.

    What's the reason you put an insert instead of using the existing fire place?

    • @DixiePixie01
      @DixiePixie01 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One million reasons. A fireplace does not heat a house.

    • @ChromeArty
      @ChromeArty 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not to mention when you do use a fireplace, as soon as it goes out the heat in the flue causes the fireplace and chimney to dump the heat from your house in a short period of time.

      Thanks, I had no idea they were so bad. Make a lot of sense now. But won't the exhausts still be open in the insert when it burns out too? I can see that it would be a lot less air going out but still would be left open right?

    • @ChefNutter
      @ChefNutter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the door is shut it's a closed unit and should not cause a draft to suck out heat.
      Open fireplace waste like 80% of your heat and you waste alot wood cause it burns so fast.
      Insert you use way less wood and give off more heat. @@akbananachucker2441

      @@akbananachucker2441 The actual stove heats up and it has a separate duct in the bottom where it pulls air in from your house and heats it up and blows it back out to the house.

    There was nothing wrong with my old wood fire burning insert it is made of cast iron, must weigh near 500 lbs! It has never given me any problems!
    But the realtor told me I had to remove it to sale my house because it wasn’t modernized! And we live in California! And it’s California law!
    25 years and it never ever has given me any problems!
    God how I hate California!

      That's crazy. They're currently giving out tax rebates to install wood burning stoves or update old ones. Sounds like your realtor was out of touch.
