I really like this idea capcom. Teaching people new to the FGC (aswell as old one's that did not research it) about Street Fighter and Arcade history. Can't wait for part 2!
They just "forgot" or HIDE the TRUE history about the Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting/Turbo, that was a way to attract arcade player from the "RAINBOW" hack, where speciais can be performed at air (Tatsumaki...), some characters that haven't a fireball trow it (Kikouken...), teleport itself (Dhalsim...) and more speed improvement. I HATE this difficult on some companies to admit the inspiration or reason of some creations.
@@orion_shorts Unfortunatelly, this is the TRUE history about Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting/Turbo. The "RAINBOW" Street Fighter II' Champion Edition, obtained using some Street Fighter II' World Warrir board components inside Champion Edition's board, make some hack variants, like glithches, grapling distance improvements, speed hacks, air performed specials and many other bizarre things, but I'll try to list some of them: In the first "Rainbow Revision": Air performed special moves (All of them); Special projectiles (Hadouken, Tiger, Yoga Fre, Sonic Boom) "waving" on the screen; Blanka, Chun Li and Honda shock, head butt and flash kick can be berformed moving back or forward; Second "revision": Air performed special moves (All of them); Special projectiles (Hadouken, Tiger, Yoga Fre, Sonic Boom) "waving" on the screen and multiple on the screen too, without needing to wait the first leave the screen limits or hit the opposite character; Blanka, Chun Li and Honda shock, head butt and flash kick now MOVES ULTRA FAST fo FORWARD; Third "revision": Air performed special moves (All of them); Special projectiles (Hadouken, Tiger, Yoga Fre, Sonic Boom) "waving" on the screen and multiple on the screen too, without needing to wait the first leave the screen limits or hit the opposite character, and now gets DOUBLE; Blanka, Chun Li and Honda Electric Thunder, head butt (Hyakuretsu Harite) and flash kick (Hyakuretsu Kyaku) now MOVES ULTRA FAST fo FORWARD, and now, they THROWS HADOUKEN during these moves; Command to CHANGE CHARACTERS during gameplay in real time; Added Dhalsim's YOGA FLAME at the Zangief feet during Double Lariat and the Screw Piledriver can CATCK on the air too; MAIN ADDITION: CHARGE MOVES (Hold back or down during 2 seconds before turn to opposite direction and kick or punch) has NO MORE to be charged, you can perform Sonic Boom or any other move like a "hadouken" just TAPPING the command quickly. Street Fighter II, My childhood. The game kept me well educated, After School, (With My back pack on) I played against people like it was a Street Fighter Tournament. "Here Comes a New Challenger"
I'm up for that challenge. 😉 You described my childhood, minus playing the arcade machines. All I gotta say is to get your "quarters" ready, my friend 😊
Hyper Fighting actually came out because of all the hacked versions of CE. Stuff like the increased speed, Chun Li fireball, etc. were made by the public and arcade owners. You could usually see if the machine was hacked by the Attract Mode screens -- the colors were altered, leading to names like Rainbow and Red Wave. (You can still find these roms and play them on MAME.) Capcom decided to grab the popular changes and roll them into the Hyper Edition. Good times!
Loved it! Man I menaged to Play SF1 in the Arcades back in 1990... I'm becoming too old for this, but I still like it! Chanpion Ed.was my fave from the 2's updates. I really, REALLY, wish these videos were included in the game as bonus content with subs (brazilian portuguese) to give this "insight" to everyone 'bout how SF are so great! Awesome video!
I play Street fighter since I was your kid and now I still play it to this very day and now I pass it on to the next generation hold my family who enjoys Street Fighter as much as I do the game is very amazing and it's perfect actually game to play
Definitive for me was Street Fighter II Turbo - Champion Edition. Good grief, when they added the additional option to choose how fast you wanted to move, that was pure gold for me!! Fun days! Happy 30th anniversary to this franchise and to Capcom's flagship series.
@Street Fighter Hopefully we can get a "Vs" series collection with: - X-Men vs. Street Fighter - Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter - Marvel vs. Capcom - Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - Capcom vs. SNK - Capcom vs. SNK Pro - Capcom vs. SNK 2 - Tatsunoko vs. Capcom - SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom
Street Fighter II was the first SNES game I saw and the first time I read the words "Super Nintendo". I owned the original Street Fighter 2 SNES game before I even owned a SNES. I'd go to my friend's house and play it on his SNES. He's now a TV star on a Soap Opera.
Spyro was my first video game but Super Street Fighter 2 was my first Street Fighter game and it changed my life. It literally made me into the gamer and person I am today. I started Taekwondo at age 4. because I wanted to be like Ryu and Ken. I’m working on my 4th degree black belt now. Also, my dad told me Bruce Lee from Enter the Dragon was Fei Long and Mr. Han was Vega and Jim Kelly was Dee Jay! Lmao. Bruce Lee and Ryu are like role models to me. They were a huge part of my childhood. I’ve been playing Street Fighter for 18 years and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Here’s to 30 years of Street Fighter!!!
Been playing this franchise since I was 11. I hated how hard OG Street Fighter was, especially with the two huge pressurized pads. I knew where I was when every release dropped. The narrator is right, I hit up gas stations, laundry mats(my go to), and fast food joints to play Street Fighter 2 arcades. This franchise means a lot to gamers who grew up with it.
I love Street fighter Happy Anniversary 30TH I have all Street fighter games is awesome and amazing I love Ryu and Ken and Guile and Chun - LI and Cammy and Feilong and Akuma is awesome I play I play with them all just those characters
Crossplay would be huge. This game would become a must get for everyone and it would never get old if it has that feature. I just realized that there isn't any game with crossplay between XBONE and PS4 :(
Wow! Mr. James Chen! you, as well as Yipes and Tasty Steve has to go down to be one of the Greatest fighting game commentators in the world!! i sure miss Cami Vicencio w/interviewing..... i've played Street Fighter 1 since 1987. i first played it @ Japantown Bowling Alley in SF Japantown in San Francisco. even before that, the very first Capcom arcade game i ever played was 1942. my mother's birthday is on 1941, the same year as Bruce Lee. my younger brother trained under Sifu Chan, Chris @ SF Wing-Chun Kung-Fu Academy in the 90's, while i was playing Street Fighter II: The World Warrior in Feb 1991 at SF FunCenter arcade on Market St., between 7th & 6th Sts. in San Francisco. in the story of Street Fighter, i am almost exactly 9yrs younger than Ryu. if you don't mind me asking you James, what year were you born in, and where did you first play Street Fighter 1? my most favorite characters in all of Street Fighter is Geki, from Street Fighter 1, Sean from Street Fighter III: NEW GENERATION and Adon, from Street Fighter Zero 1. it would be nice if there were a Pilipino character that utilizes Kali sticks in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition in a possible Season 4 DLC
Street Fighter II was revolutionary because it was the first good fighting game. It was the first competitive game I cared about and it was one I could play with my family and friends. I became obsessed with Blanka and was thrilled to see the JCVD movie in theaters. Viva la Street Fighter!
It is different to my understanding. Ryu needs you to press a button for less frames in Smash to have other moves come out, while this is about how hard you hit a button. "Pressure sensitive" refers to when you hold a button in harder like the shoulder buttons in Mario Sunshine to make F.L.U.D.D. more powerful.
This brings back so many great memories growing up in the arcades but it also makes me sad because of the current state of SF and the disaster that is SF5. Maybe all the current people at Capcom should watch this so they remember what made SF great and they can redeem themselves with SF6. God knows they can't do any worse than 5.
JOHNNY Walker you're gonna wait till 6 what if they come out with a new better version of 5 are you just going to not play that one cause people said it sucked
Ronin Warrior you do know that balrog was Mike Bison before the names were shuffled in Japan for legal reasons? Bison is Vega. And Vega is Balrog. History lesson. Lol. He was made after......guess.
Yeah i'm well aware of that. I know about the name changes and every thing. They didn't want to get sued by Mike Tyson (who Balrog was based off of) But lol. But I guess Mike WAS the prototype seeing how Balrog is in the Street Fighter 1 Arcade mode of Street Fighter 5. but his ending kinda makes a joke about it lol.
I remember watching all the cholos at the liquor store beat the shit out of those two big ass buttons when I was a wee lad in the 80s. Several years later, when I was big enough to start on coin-ops, the pressure buttons were gone and replaced with the modern 6 button layout. I'll still never forget the first time seeing somebody throw a hadoken. I was mesmerized. I had played the game a few times already, but when I saw that teenager throw a fireball, I begged him to tell me how to do it. The guy was a dick. Said it was a secret and walked away when Gen pwned his ass. Luckily, I saw another teenager pull off the secretive move. He was a BAMF in my eyes. Not only did he tell me how to do a hadoken, he also showed me the dragon punch and whirlwind kick. After trying all three moves several times, and pulling them off, I made it a mission to beat the game. I'll never forget the first time I hit Birdy with a Tatsu. He headbutt right into it as I was barely starting the animation. Dead in one move. Destroying foes left and right with DPs and Tatsus. I was also chucking FBs as often as they'd decide they wanted to come out. None of the moves came out consistently. You'd perform the motion + button combo and pray the move wanted to come out. Luckily, as I finally reached the final boss. Wow! He had a DP and a fireball too! What!!?? Also, what is the rushing knee!!?? I was shocked. Almost walked away with PTSD. I couldn't comprehend what just happened. Fuck it! Imma take this bad ass motherfucker down! Another quarter goes in. We have fireball wars for the first two rounds. I win one, Sagat wins one. Final round. Have to do it!! I have no idea what overcame me. I mashed the dp motion like a mofo at the start of the round. It comes out. I pull off a shoruken just as Sagat does his tiger knee. Dead...one hit...dead. I beat it. What an amazing feeling. Now we have SF5....where are those magical moments? Where's the ultimate struggle? Maybe things were different as a kid? I dunno. I'm 40 now. I've battled cancer. I'm struggling with recovery. Life blows. I'll always have moments like that to reflect on though. Good times.
"Street Fighter II" Better then any Street Fighter. (Epic) For the First time Hyper Fighting will be on PSN. Street Fighter II gamers shouts out to you.
I REALLY have to wonder why this amazing series of retrospective videos aren't actually IN the 30th Anniversary Collection game. I mean, the Museum has so many other awesome things like pictures, behind the scenes documents, a timeline, character profiles and music. Being able to play these videos in the timeline for each game and in their own video sections would have made the actual game even better. Oh well, these videos are still awesome. It's just that as I watch these here on TH-cam, i'm gonna pretend these are in the actual game, because that would have made it even better than it already is.
For us, May 29th will be an important moment in our lives. But for Bison, it will be Tuesday
Top tier comment right here lol
This makes me very happy well played Capcom
Lol 😂

*CROSSPLAY PLEASE*
Yes! All platforms!
I'm getting PS4 version
Yes, i'd also love that, crossplay between all platforms is a must in this kind of games.
Crossplay would be huge.
This game would become a must get for everyone and it would never get old if it has that feature.
I just realized that there isn't any game with crossplay between XBONE and PS4 :(
It's 4 online games in collection -- if online will be separated for each platform -- then servers will be empty very soon.. Mb even on launch lol
19HajimeSaitou91 i think third strike and super turbo will still be somewhat healthy even without crossplay, but with it, all 4 games will.
Is that James Chen? 👀

Any more mutant idea everyone ? Robot or more martial art ? character I'm only got is omnipotent character .
JOHNNY Walker you're gonna wait till 6 what if they come out with a new better version of 5 are you just going to not play that one cause people said it sucked
I’m waiting for MVCI 2
That was a cool video thanks for making AND sharing it!
I’m getting this on PS4 and Switch!
Dat signature pose!
I forgot Balrog was in 1. I have to go back and play it again.
jokatech Balrog wasn’t in the first game though.
Ronin Warrior yeah he was. A character with a close enough likeness is in there. The design is too close for that not to be at least a prototype.
jokatech his name wasn’t Balrog though. It was Mike. But I see where you’re coming from.
Good times.

Just one of those things that happens when you get older I guess.
Hope you beat your cancer dude, good luck

Appreciate it.
"Street Fighter II" Better then any Street Fighter. (Epic) For the First time Hyper Fighting will be on PSN. Street Fighter II gamers shouts out to you.
2:25 was the favourite example of beating sagat with Shoryuken in less than 2 seconds.
Hyper Fighting online! I'm ready
