    Great info on Quest For Fire. I'm in Ontario and some of the film was shot close to me.

      Hi Jeremi. Thanks for watching. I’m on the west coast. That’s interesting, I saw that some of it was filmed around Lion’s Head but I’m not very familiar with Ontario. I have been to Kenya though where it was also shot

    Hi Neil, Great movies for consideration for sure. I did see Quest For Fire before, it is enjoyable. Also, I have Elephant Walk on VHS. I thought that Dangerous Moonlight looked good and The Tale Of Tsar Salton sounds real good too, though I had never heard of it before. Thanks for another interesting video!

      Thanks, Lita. It’s sounding like you have quite the VHS collection based on your recent comments. Thanks for watching, I’m glad there were some of interest

    Some cool recommendations. I probably haven't seen Quest for Fire since I saw it when it came out at the cinema. I picked up Ghosts of Mars at a thrift store but haven't watched it yet. The Woman In Black, Dangerous Moonlight and Elephant Walk will probably be the first ones I look for.

      Hi Randy. Glad to hear some of these are of interest. Funnily I have had Quest for Fire for quite a while and thought I’d watched it but had it muddled in my brain with Pathfinder, which is very different.

    Thanks for the shoutout. The Kim Ki Duk film is the only one I've seen out of this bunch, but those two Alexander Ptushko films are ones that I'm excited to watch.

      Thanks very much. I’ll hopefully get to The Bow soon as it will be good to see another Kim Ki Duk film. It will be interesting what you think of Ptushko - a folklore narrative but wow they look great

    'Gerry' is indeed a haunting achievement, devastating in the existential crisis it limns. I saw and enjoyed 'Quest for Fire' when first released in the U.S., still regarding it as probably the best cinematic treatment of prehistoric man. I recall catching the climactic scene of 'Elephant Walk' many, many moons ago on American television (pre-cable), and finding it riveting, but have never revisited the film since (I doubtlessly would appreciate the film more from an adult perspective).

      Hi Barry. Thanks very much, not many are commenting on Gerry so I’m glad you have done so….Stupidly I kept thinking I’d seen Quest For Fire but for some reason had it muddled in my brain with Pathfinder! Elephant Walk is definitely melodramatic and absurd, with Peter Finch overacting somewhat but young Elizabeth Taylor is great, the plantation house is magnificent and that ending is a doozy

    Great reviews, Neil! I remember seeing Woman in Black in theatres (because it was a horror movie with Harry Potter…how could I miss that?!), and remember feeling like the end felt very “Hollywood-ized”. I read the book (story) years later and realized how right I was, lol. That’s one I definitely need to revisit. I really want to check out Speak No Evil next month. Awesome reviews!

      Thanks, Branden. Interesting, yes it’s no masterpiece but for me I was just pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable and atmospheric it was. As I said though, seeing it on stage was a whole different experience, absolutely one of my favourite theatre experiences ever. All the best

    Elephant Walk is a terrific movie, and one that I would love to see again. I thought The Woman in Black was OK, and certainly had some good moments, but I'm not a big fan. Gerry is one I would like to see.

      Hi Mike. Yes, I enjoyed Elephant Walk particularly for Taylor and that tremendous finale. The Woman in Black stage production has been one of the best experiences I’ve had at the theatre, I think you would have enjoyed it too. I was pleasantly surprised with the 2012 movie but am more intrigued to find the 1989 one with the screen adaptation written by Nigel Kneale. I didn’t get much reaction to talking about Gerry and I suppose it is a movie that many won’t have the patience for but I liked it a lot. All the best, thanks for watching

    Very different films there, I think I have “woman in black” so I’m looking forward to seeing it, Radcliffe is a very good actor because he always chooses different films. Very good video Neil. Be well my friend

    Interesting selection of films as always with you Neil. Ptusko is special and thanks for the mention. I have the original tv film of the woman in black from network Blu-ray which is a lovely little chiller. Didn’t realise there was a stage version. That sounds like an experience. I need to track down the walbrook film. He is magnetic in most of his roles. I didn’t know that imprint had released elephant walk. Sounds fun. Thanks again for your excellent recommendations.

      Hi Ronin. Firstly I bow to you as you have already done a great job of highlighting Ptushko’s films. That Deaf Crocodile set is expensive but fortunately we have a streaming service connected with the library so I was able to watch them both on there. I think there’s a couple of others available to watch too….I have been searching for the TV version of Woman in Black. I’ve seen a few tubers showing their Network copy but I can’t get a hold of one. I’m particularly intrigued by that one as Nigel Kneale was involved with the adaptation. But yes I saw it on stage in both London and Eastbourne and it really was brilliant, really chilling use of sound and how the ghost appeared…..Dangerous Moonlight is definitely a bit creaky but Walbrook as ever is magnetic as you say and I really liked Sally Gray too. You have to like the piano concerto though as it does get played quite a lot….im not sure if Imprint have yet released Elephant Walk as a stand alone release but they did include it in a Tales of Adventure box set. I do appreciate you watching, thank you!!

    I love these recommendation videos, always a good combo of titles that are new to me and obscure gems that I am also a fan of. Ilya Muromets being an example. It's a glorious epic. I meant to watch Tsar Saltan on youtube for a while but it disappeared before i got a chance, i'm gutted. I'd love to own the new Ptushko box set but it's hard to get in the uk and probably more money than i could afford. His movie 'The Stone Flower' from 1946 is a beauty as well. So many interesting fantasy movies from Soviet-era Russia, Czech etc that deserve restoration and better availability to audiences.
    Of others you mentioned - I too saw the stage play of The Woman in Black more than once. I think it was in Covent Garden in the early 1990s? 'Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring' is a beautiful movie, I must watch that again soon. Quest for Fire has hung around the edges of my watchlist for a while, I always feared it could be awful but you have got me interested in it again. Cheers

      Hi again. Yes, avoid Ptushko on TH-cam as those are likely the butchered, unrestored versions. The set is indeed expensive. I was able to watch via streaming service that is linked with the library, not sure if you have similar in the UK, maybe on BFI Player I don’t know….Great to hear you saw the stage version. I saw it in a London theatre, maybe the Garrick I can’t remember and then also at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park. So memorable, I loved it….Im glad some of these were of interest, I’m really pleased there has been feedback on this video, much appreciated

    Hi Neil, some very interesting recommendations there, I’ve seen a few and there’s some I’ve never heard of 🤔 I was talking to another TH-camr last week about “Quest For Fire” it’s a small world. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, take care mate👍😃👍

      Thanks, Alan. Quest For Fire had sat on my shelf for ages as, for some bizarre reason, I thought I had already seen it but had it muddled in my head with Pathfinder. Great movie, I hope you enjoyed it if you watched it. All the best

    Quest For Fire is a great one. I picked up an OOP blu-ray release last year. I can't wait to get to Ilya Muromets, its looks spectacular.

    A few of these, The WOman In Black and Quest For Fire I do own and now they have been moved up the watchlist onyour recommendation....
    On a side note, good news and bad news... Good, I got in a John Guillerman film in the mail today! Bad news, it's Sheena... lol

    • @neilsmoviechannel3199
      @neilsmoviechannel3199  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You, sir, are a legend. Sheena will definitely offer you a few things you haven’t seen in other films. Enjoy horses painted to look like zebras and the amazing flamingo helicopter attack. I know I can’t say it’s great but I’m still up for defending parts of it…..Good to hear you have Quest For Fire. I actually thought I’d watched it a while back but bizarrely had it muddled in my brain with the film Pathfinder

    I have seen A Women in Black, but it was so long ago I don't remember much about it. I have heard of Gerry before, from what I have heard it a either you love it or hate it type movie, but it sounds interesting.

    • @neilsmoviechannel3199
      @neilsmoviechannel3199  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. Yes, many won’t have the patience for Gerry but I liked the way it didn’t shy away from having its two characters silently contemplate their situation and trust for each other. On a much smaller scale I’ve been in situations where we have walked without talking, with thoughts of tiredness and wonder about when we’ll get to a recognizable destination. Thanks for watching

    Quest for fire is an excellent movie. I Haven’t seen it in years. The woman in Black is fantastic. Not much dialogue in the movie, but it’s very creepy. I haven’t seen the second one yet, but I do have it

    Hi Neil I like the sound of Elephant Walk I will have to keep my eye on indicator for that one.
    I too enjoy the Radcliffe woman in black. I've never got round to the sequel though. I've heard it's pretty terrible.

    • @neilsmoviechannel3199
      @neilsmoviechannel3199  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, Roy. Yes, Indicator do seem to follow up sometimes with releases that have been put out by Imprint so it will be a fun one to pick up in a sale if that happens. Finch overacts and there is lots of melodrama but that ending is terrific….Im not interested in the Woman in Black sequel either. Thanks for watching

  • @juanaltredo2974
    @juanaltredo2974 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Neil i noticed you didnt mention the original made for TV 80s woman in black, that's the best of the screen adaptations by a considerable margin. the atmosphere is really chilling and spending the night with the protagonist alone at that old house its a really uncomfortable experience as a viewer. The radcliff version is not as bad as I thought on first viewing, but its far from capturing what makes the story tick, and that's the very english bleak weather and melancholy mix

      Hi. I did actually record a bit for this video saying how much I’d like to see the TV version, mainly because it’s adapted by Nigel Kneale, but I cut it out as a few other TH-camrs had recently posted their Network copy and I’d commented on their videos….For me, the 2012 film was just a pleasant surprise at how enjoyable I found it considering my strong love for the stage version, which was an amazing experience
