for thse wondering....this is a medley of three songs: 1. "Blind Fiddler" is an old traditional folk song 2. "Do For the Others" from Stills' first solo album 3. "Know You Got to Run" from Stills' 2nd solo album (an early version of it, or at least part of the lyrics, was incorporated into "Everybody I Love You" by CSNY ...last track on Deja Vu)
my favorite artist of all time..in any group effort an assest beyond compare, solo he is sublime. I challenge you to posit a more gifted song writer from the mid 64 to the present
What a voice! What a conduit for unfiltered emotional truth. Love the way these three songs combine to flesh out the biography of the blind fiddler -- just extraordinary. Thanks for posting.
I could never express that so beautifully. Thank you for saying that out loud. I could listen to him sing all day but I could listen to play forever.🎼💕🎸⚘
Best CD I ever bought!!! They don't sell the CD any more so I doubt they will take it down since you really can't steal something that isn't for sale....but who knows... I bought two shrink wrapped CD's of this CD for $300 bucks where they will sit in storage for a LONG LONG time! Actually wore this CD out because it NEVER came out of the changer.
The lyrics for you to follow as the song plays =) .......................... I lost my eyes in a blacksmith shop In the year of fifty six Working on a t-flange 'Twas in need of fix It bounded from the tongs And there concealed my doom I am a blind fiddler Far from my home I have a wife and daughter Depending on me What good can I do them My God I cannot see I wander from one place to another My daily bread to win I am a blind fiddler Looking for a friend Round round up and down All along the lonely town See him sinkin' low Doesn't see the love there is to know And he cries From the misery And he lies Singing harmony She is gone There is no tomorrow It is done So now he must borrow The life of his brothers And living in sorrow He must do For the others A chill wind hits his face Was that a tear I thought I saw a trace Loving people everywhere Where is she She is not there And he cries From the misery And he lies Singing harmony She is gone There is no tomorrow It is done So now he must borrow The life of his brothers And living in sorrow He must do For the others Know you got to run And you know you got to hide Don't know who to follow Who is on your side Don't know where you're going Won't talk of where you been And I may see you tomorrow Never more again And you got yourself a potion For to keep you from your sleep In the dark and lonely hours I've heard you laugh and weep Talk about you're sinkin' What a hole you're in But you'll never face your lonely soul Never face your friends And you know you got to run And you know you got to hide Still there is a great light Lingerin' deep within your eyes Open up open up C'mon and let me in When you can love yourself honey I I can love you then I lost my eyes in a blacksmith shop In seventeen fifty six Working on a t-flange 'Twas in need of fix It bounded from the tongs And there concealed my doom I am a blind fiddler Far from my home Round round up and down All along the lonely town
Like many artists from the 60s, 70s the awful production sounds of the 80s just didn't do them justice. A relief to hear Stephen Stills get back to basics on this record from 1991.
To Piggy-Pike-Music-Like; Yes, he did write this one. Part of it is a reworked spiritual, and the rest is pieces from Stills' "Know You Got To Run" and "Do For The Others."
I feel so often I must do for my brother Adrian who invented the hemp decorticator. But it is a hard road to hoe. I have always loved this song and I know the hardships and joy it can bring.
Has this been recorded? I attended every concert in So Cal featuring my hero Stephen Stills for about 4 years, but I never heard this bit, nor can I find a recording. Clues, anyone? I've played guitar for 55 years, and this man is my hero - I need this song to play, for the others...
This is on his album, Stills alone recorded in 1991. The whole album is sublime and very hard to find. Try Amazon- it is worth taking a chance on a used copy. No longer in print but sometimes new copies come up for sale on Amazon- pricey but worth every penny.
Can anyone help me get the tuning and the voicings/chords that he uses. Or even a transpose to standard would be cool. I'm only interested in the Fiddler parts. I can find the rest in song books. One of my favourite albums of all time!
This is the best song I ever heard from Stills...did he write this? I can not make out all the lyrics...his voice is no longer what it was.. Can you post the lyrics?
Stills is just a master of songwriting, voice, and guitar.
Indeed ❤❤❤. Spent 55 years following this generational artist. Has so affected / influenced me. Thank you Mr. Stills.
Steve Stills. One of the best ever. Ever.
+OHbama Mama Ever...

Best performance Stenen Stills has ever done.

It's one hell of an album !!!
We will hear this in 1000 years
Agreed
The third decade of the 21st century and we are still playing his tunes and talking about them
His legacy will last forever
greatest album ever.........some albums have one or two great songs ....but this one does not have a bad song on it they are ALL GREAT

Stephen only gets better with time
awesome ... Peerless Stephen Stills!!!
Found this musician through my brother recommending Treetop Flyer a few years back. REally impressed by his work!
Still great today!!!!
This stole my breath!
Agreed
Absolutely breath taking
Stills alone, solo, at his awesome emotional best
As I mentioned before,this man is a great guitarist,as well as singer/songwriter!!! :)
Love that gravel in his voice.
Dallas, tx. Born & bred! Lived not far from stevie ray Vaughn from oak cliff!
True grit
Literally
WOW! Simply one of the Best. WOW!
Stills kind of went astray with disco and sappy pop for a few albums there. So glad he came back to acoustic soul This album is great .
The lyrics for you to follow as the song plays =) ..........................
I lost my eyes in a blacksmith shop
In the year of fifty six
Working on a t-flange
'Twas in need of fix
It bounded from the tongs
And there concealed my doom
I am a blind fiddler
Far from my home
I have a wife and daughter
Depending on me
What good can I do them
My God I cannot see
I wander from one place to another
My daily bread to win
I am a blind fiddler
Looking for a friend
Round round up and down
All along the lonely town
See him sinkin' low
Doesn't see the love there is to know
And he cries
From the misery
And he lies
Singing harmony
She is gone
There is no tomorrow
It is done
So now he must borrow
The life of his brothers
And living in sorrow
He must do
For the others
A chill wind hits his face
Was that a tear
I thought I saw a trace
Loving people everywhere
Where is she
She is not there
And he cries
From the misery
And he lies
Singing harmony
She is gone
There is no tomorrow
It is done
So now he must borrow
The life of his brothers
And living in sorrow
He must do
For the others
Know you got to run
And you know you got to hide
Don't know who to follow
Who is on your side
Don't know where you're going
Won't talk of where you been
And I may see you tomorrow
Never more again
And you got yourself a potion
For to keep you from your sleep
In the dark and lonely hours
I've heard you laugh and weep
Talk about you're sinkin'
What a hole you're in
But you'll never face your lonely soul
Never face your friends
And you know you got to run
And you know you got to hide
Still there is a great light
Lingerin' deep within your eyes
Open up open up
C'mon and let me in
When you can love yourself honey I
I can love you then
I lost my eyes in a blacksmith shop
In seventeen fifty six
Working on a t-flange
'Twas in need of fix
It bounded from the tongs
And there concealed my doom
I am a blind fiddler
Far from my home
Round round up and down
All along the lonely town
This is what "They" call real music, just my opinion though...
Stills solo stuff smokin hot. Freaking great can acoustic guitar 😂😉😓😊😋😀
Great Blues 👏😎🤙
This includes a reworking of my favorite song on his first solo album, "Do For the Others". I have both in my Stills playlist. Thanks for the upload!
@DitchFlicks hell yeah man, great fuckin song. love it.

This music built bridges. Took a whole 5 generations of humans on the planet earth and made them Onder.
Wow!

Saw him do "Know You Got to Run" on clawhammer banjo in Knoxville when Manassas played there in '73. Nice!
