  • Located in the county of Derbyshire, and around 15 miles southeast of Manchester, is the town of Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Geographically the town is located on the western fringe of the Peak District. After the Norman Conquest, the area was part of the royal hunting forest of the High Peak. In the 12th century the Normans established a hunting lodge within the forest situated here.
In 1225, the Earl of Derby gave permission for a chapel of ease to be built in the forest, hence the town's name: Chapel-en-le-Frith, being derived from Anglo-Norman, meaning 'chapel in the forest'. This was replaced in the 14th century by the Church of St Thomas Becket, which stands at the highest point of the town to this day, although the current edifice was largely rebuilt in the 18th century.
In 1863 the railway arrived in Chapel-en-le-Frith. In 1867 a second station opened, which by 1924 came to be known as Chapel-en-le-Frith Central. This was closed in 1967 due to the Beeching cuts, however the original station remains open. Situated about a mile south of the town centre, it provides a direct transport link to both Buxton and Manchester. Trains to Manchester Picccadilly take around 50 minutes.
In 1897 brake manufacturer Ferodo was founded by Herbert Frood. Since 1902 they have been based in Chapel-en-le-Frith.

I can add a little more context to that situation with the house at the beginning of the video, as it has been in danger of collapsing into the street for a few years now. The local council keep saying they will do something about it (and have shored it up and put traffic lights there, as you can see in the vid) but it is a bit of a worry, not to mention causes some traffic chaos during rush hour!
And I have some fond memories of the St Thomas Becket church as I did my History A Level project about a situation that had occurred there where some Scottish soldiers who fought for the Royalists during the Civil War were held. Trying to remember back they were initially captured around the North East and held in Durham Cathedral but for some reason were moved around the country and ended up in Chapel! I think there are a few graves in the church in memoriam for those who died during that trek.
@9:59 the town's library is situated just through those gates on the right side of the town hall building. I guess they were closed on that day.
