- In Pakistan's Swat district, archaeologists have uncovered what they consider to be important Buddhist structures that are up to 2,000 years old. They were found in an area that had been used for cattle grazing until recently.

The Pakistani government is not doing it out of love. They have got Western grants to preserve heritage sites. Otherwise, the people would have just destroyed them or modified them. They are not doing it out of some altruistic feeling.

There were Many Buddhist In India till 6 - 7 th century ....
After 7 th century Buddhist declined in Indian subcontinent.
Few examples Kushans, Ashoka, sanchi supta, etc
Even nalanda and taxilla are Buddhist universities maintained by hindus and Buddhist.
