I think Tao getting angry when he sees Elle's friends can be explained. Elle had been putting distance between them thinking that she needed to get over him, but Tao doesn't know that, all he knows is that she started doing this around the same time these new friends came into her life. I feel like it's quite an interesting and realistic portrayal of teenage misunderstandings, anxieties and difficulty communicating.
And I'm not saying otherwise. I was just caught of guard by how intense his reaction was given the fact that this "woods party" obviously rallied people from different schools. I wasn't expecting him to get emotional about it so fast, but I understand how this must have looked for him.

woah, interesting to see someone be more understanding of Elle rather than Tao! there's definitely more reactors that seem to be more understanding of Tao, and a small number that's understanding of both, but being more understanding of Elle than Tao is probably the least common reaction (that I've noticed at least)

Elle never really communicated her feelings to Tao and after some flirting didn’t work she was pushing him away and Tao being insecure has a hard time expressing his feelings to the person he’s insecure about and they both fail at communicating.
The date was sad to watch when you look back to them watching a movie in S1 Ep3 and walking along after the milkshakes saying they love each other. I think Elle had resigned to staying friends like that, (which she and Tao obviously value so highly), so when she, (reluctantly), agrees to the date and it's so awkward, ( please Tao don't take someone to their favourite film, which is a lovely gesture, and then proceed to completely dis something that they treasure), I think it confirms all the worst fears she had about telling him in the first place. I think your comment about it not being organic hits the nail on the head. The one positive I took was that they at least knew that they both had romantic feelings for each other. I don't think there is any blame on either side for what happened and I had confidence that their friendship was too special not to survive. I don't know if I was reading to much into things but I thought there was a certain parallel between Charlie telling Harry to piss off and then Nick apologising and Charlie telling him he has nothing to apologise for to Nick saving Charlie from Ben in S1ep1. Also the way Charlie said 'I'd fight anyone who was mean to you' got me in the feels.

I have to say, I was on the side of thinking Elle was being way more weird than Tao. He was clearly nervous but I didn't think he was otherwise acting any different. First dates in school will always be a little awkward but I really felt like most of the awkwardness here was coming from her being quite cold. Sure, he didn't need to change his appearance for her, but she came across as very dismissive of the efforts he made (which is especially disheartening as she knows better than anyone how self-conscious he is and how difficult it must have been for him to go through with everything). Also I did find it a bit weird that they were on a date and she invited her new friends that he doesn't know to hang out with them. It would have been different if she had prepped him ahead of time instead of just springing them on him (again because she knows how he gets and should have anticipated how it would make him feel). All that said, his reaction to everything was (characteristically) over the top and he really needs to work on managing his emotions a lot better.
I agree. This was about the only time I questioned the writing, as it seems that Elle’s reaction was unreasonable and inserted just to give the relationship more drama. On the other hand, they are still kids and sometimes don’t handle situations the way we think they should.
I also found it odd that Elle invited these friends Tao didn't know to hang out after their date at first, but on second thought, Elle didn't even know Tao and her were going on that date until a few hours before it happened. she definitely made plans for her friends to show up to the party first. she should have mentioned it to Tao on their way to the party, but then again, everything between them on their date was kinda weird so it probably wasn't a prioritised thought in her mind at the time
Agree to disagree. Elle was cold, but Tao did behave differently and unintentionally made things awkward. It was coming from a good place tho, he just didn't know how to make the transition from friendship to dating go smoothly, which is perfectly understandable since this is uncharted territory! For both of them! They could and should have communicated better though. As for the last part of your comment, I don't see what happened as Elle springing her new friends on Tao out of the blue. Felix and Naomi were both FAR AWAY from them in a tent. Tao just freaked out on Elle almost the moment he saw them and she probably didn't have time to tell him something like: "Hey, so my friends are here. I would really like for you to meet them..." Knowing Tao and his issues, I completely understand why he reacted the way he did, I guess this is just something about him, and about his character, that I personally always struggled with and at the time it annoyed me :/

It bothered me when Tao went to Elle’s house (last episode) Elle told him she couldn’t get together with him because of exams and her art project. She was just too busy. Telling him that as she just finished telling him she was going to an under age club with her new friends that might. I can understand how Tao would be hurt by that and think she was “abandoning” him for Naomi and Felix.

Tao just showed up out of the blue at her house and expected her to be free to hang out with him. She was indeeded busy and made plans with other people. I understand where Tao is coming from with his trauma and everything, but this behaviour he had in s1 and the start of s2 just rubs me off the wrong way. Of course there are layers to this, but he used to freak out EVERY TIME his friends were busy experiencing new things, making new friends, and it's just.... uuuugh Like, Tao's feelings are valid, but he often opens up about them to the wrong people. Instead of telling Charlie how his new privilleged friendship with Nick was making him feel, he just went to Elle. Same thing happened here. He talked to everyone BUT Elle in the start of the season. I love Tao to death but that boy needs to communicate better istg 😭 (I'm super proud of his character developpement this season btw)
Yeah good too see the queer book reprasentation in a school libary,good from alice, the heartstopper books are forbidden in Iowa school libary, what is a step backward and we are in europe in a heartstopper univers nobody goes to die so party in the woods and good to see joes wish come true, he want a scene with olivia😊
Yeah we don't face the same issue where I'm from, luckily. I'd say our biggest challenge lies in the translation of queer books still being pretty low in my opinion, but I can definitely see a change towards the better in the book world!
