    Remember guys, even though it would be great to have a fantastic home gym like Matt's, you can still build a good physique with just dumbbells or a barbell, if you're committed, so no excuses.

    I think one of the best purchases you can make in a home gym is one of the full racks with the lat pull down/row built in. If I ever build my own I’ll be buying one of them. My dad has one and he’s got near 20 years out of it

    Hi Matt your choice of leg press machine should have been a dual purpose plate loading leg press and hack squat machine as it allows you to do 4 exercises in total 2 for the upper legs, 2 for the lower legs which in my opinion is a much better choice stay safe and healthy

    Very nice gym and space one thing that might be worth mentioning the fact that multi gyms can be factored in since when you have limited space but have the funds to spend over 600 quid a multi gym can slot in nicely as a decent jack of all trades usually coming with leg extension/curl chest fly/press lat pull down etc with a 100kg stack.
    Also noticed no cardio equipment a simple folding treadmill does not go a miss or the bulldog gear airbike which is pretty awesome.

    Even though having a gym like this brings you a ton of benefits I would still mostly prefer to hit the public gym. There's just something about seeing everyone work on themselves that motivates me to be consistent. Only thing I hate is when it gets busy but still, great work you deserve it 👍

    • @alixthefunk
      @alixthefunk ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah definitely agree with that. Although Matt's gym is slightly more than a home gym. But yeah nothing like actually going to the gym and being surrounded by similar people in a charged gym atmosphere

    • @apcfitness
      @apcfitness ปีที่แล้ว +23

      God I can’t agree. I went to Public gyms for a bit and was about to give up on training before I got my home gym. The gyms I went to were so crowded , you could never use the equipment you wanted to, one woman stole my leg press when I went off to get extra plates for a new set, the music is so awful in public gyms. Having a home gym where you can play your own tunes , never have distractions and have no annoying people is amazing. Also it saves you so much time and you can always fit a workout in when busy. I have a pretty stacked home gym and could never go back to a public gym again.

    • @writingweasel6518
      @writingweasel6518 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@apcfitness I wish I had a home gym only so I didn't have to pay my monthly membership but I relate to what you are saying. The public gym I go to can get insanely overcrowded, but it's still worth it to me

    • @alixthefunk

      @@apcfitness yeah I suppose if you have a good collection of kit and you keep motivated. So I go to a kind of hardcore back ally dirty type independent gym which I LOVE. Loads of new and old and classic kit rammed in with a great family vibe. I recently purchased a cable machine off of amazon. 500 quid and a pain in the balls to put together, but best purchase ive ever made for a very cheap price considering how much others charge. Not industrial gym quality but easily good enough for anyone looking to start a home gym. That and a squatrack/bench and you can do almost everything needed!

    i have two kids who i can take with me into my own gym. or when i'm on a limited amount of time just walking down the stairs is just so valuable
    i feel like i've build a decent physique while being limited in equipement. i've also considered making specific home gym content but haven't done so
    you can do so much while being limited, old school bodybuilding if you will
    if i get an additional machine i would probably go for a cable machine although my physique would be better of with a leg machine as for me that's the hardest part of growing at home

    What an amazing home gym and a great space to train. Perfect if you ever want to get a work out with a family member or an old friend!
    I've just brought my 1st property and on the ladder it's a 3 bed and I've turn one of the rooms to a gym! And done exactly what you said you don't have to spend 20k if you can't afford to! Facebook market place there's always somebody getting rid of there old stuff and u can get some great deals. But they go fast for obvious reasons there like gold dust aha
    I've got a multi gym mainly for LAT Pull Down and triceps pull downs and then free bench with squat rack for bench / squatting adjustable dbs and 300kgs in plates but it's all 1inch stuff but doesn't matter as with the set up I can do my work out program with no waiting and I've even trained with the brother in law which would never happen if I was still going to the gym so brought us closer.
    If anyone's wanting to make a home gym and doesn't have the kinda of money like matt just know you can do it fairly cheap it won't be as super as his but listen to what he said about FBM I got my set up for 250 would of been alot more but I brought stuff people was selling in job lot sale and kept the few things I wanted and the reselled the items and cheeky but for the price I paided for them. Getting free items it takes time and it's never finished you'll say I'm done to the Mrs but then you'll be in bed thinking I could get this I could change this 😂

  • @jamiefletcher20

    Taking inspiration from the likes of Matt, joey D etc I built a home gym due to childcare making getting to the gym increasingly difficult!
    I wasn't spending much on the gym £25 per month, so it wasn't primarily cost focused although saving 300 per annum is another benefit.
    I used my summer house in my garden - roughly 12 x 8 foot.
    I have gone with cheap rack from amazon, barbell, bench plates etc. Adjustable dumbell handles (2 sets) one I can load up to about 35kg per DB, the other 50-60kg + per DB. Leg ext/ curl machine and lat pull down dual pulley. As well as other bits and pieces like attachments, flooring & resistance bands etc. I have loads of 5kg and fractional plates for dbs as well as 10s and 20s for barbell/ plate loaded equip
    Spent about £2,000 all in which I think is great. Space is a bit limited now though but looking to move into a new house this year with a garage, so I'll be upgrading the space as the summer house is jammed and not ideal. Have to manovure loads of items to get a proper work out in

    Matt, if you turn the dual cable machine into a smith mechanism with a single bar won’t the weight stacks not be heavy enough? Not sure what your cable ratio is but most machines will only supply 160 or so pounds of resistance with both stacks combined because of the 3:1 cable ratio, unless yours is different.

    I'd love to have the space and quid for this. But at this price that's 400 years of gym memberships! Awesome gym though mate. I have a power tower and dumbbells in my garage. Gets the job done but would love more variation.
