    It is difficult for a foreigner to understand Confucianism if he cannot learn classical Chinese. In fact, young people in modern mainland China are also full of misunderstandings about Confucianism.
    To put it simply, the doctrine of Confucianism is about equal to Christianity, and both start with love. The difference is that Confucianism lacks care for life after death. So, many young Chinese in modern times believe that Confucianism is not a religion. . . But in fact Confucianism has its own gods 、beliefs,and its own ideal country王道乐土.
    Why does Confucianism rarely care about the afterlife, or lack of relevant descriptions? Because the Chinese people at that time had a simple understanding of death, the soul is immortal, and people enter the underworld after death. People think that the underworld is under Mount Tai, so Mount Tai 泰山 is also written as 嶽,山 meas Mount,獄meas prison。
    Confucianism opposes superstition and idolatry,so 子不语,乱力、怪神Confucius refused to talk about superstitions such as ghosts and mysterious powers.
    The supreme god of Confucianism is天or天帝or昊天上帝or上帝,Abstract description of the universe itself,An impersonal god。
    The wise men in ancient China, such as Confucius and Laozi, refused to speak on behalf of the heaven天,But trying to understand the rules of heaven天 and call it Tao道,People must conform to the Tao,Tao can be natural or social。For example, parents must love and take care of their children, and children must be filial to their parents。。。君君臣臣、父父子子The monarch must fulfill his duties as a monarch, and the courtiers must enter into the duties of a courtier. Both fathers and sons must work hard to play their roles and be competent.
    At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Matteo Ricci, a Jesuit missionary, came to China. He believed that the heaven worshiped by Confucianism in China was the God Jehovah.So today’s Chinese also call Jehovah上帝。The pope once allowed Chinese believers to participate in sacrifices to heaven, ancestors, and Confucianism。Therefore, Christianity and Confucianism formed a basic consensus and understanding at that time.After all, the doctrines of the two sides are very close。

    I liked that explanation. Confusianism is the most absurd ideology. Basically, the oldest man, who isn't necessarily the brightest, is considered to be the wisest. I've been living in a confucianist society for years, and it sure doesn't work. The old idiots are unbearable to listen to, and nobody dates to say anything. Well, excerpt for me, of course...

      I would say confucianism is the most natural thing there is... it should actually be called humanism or something related
      this is basically the basis software (operating system) that makes all software possible
      this whole philosophy is basically the unwritten rules for most families and societies... the healthiest societies adhere to the most conservative view of this
      and this philosophy shapes the asian mindset and confucian thought does say "the strength of the nation derives from the integrity of the home" (paterfamilias)
      th-cam.com/video/LEmN6MnUVDI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=PhilosophiesforLife
      10 Life Lessons From Confucius (Confucianism)
      this is a good video extending this
      you should pay respect (or honor) to (basically, consider highly, not follow blindly)
      RESPECT
      *god/heaven > man (also a chinese concept)[cosmic order]
      ruler > subject [social order]
      husband > wife
      parent > child
      older > younger
      *client > customer
      (this too) [+- equality]
      friend > friend [equality]
      male > female (universal)
      all or most of those things manifest in (japanese) honorics: san, sama, kun, etc
      romans and other ancients also had similar values... senator > senex > old
      this also has to do with time... when the child is old enough to care for their aging parents
      DIGNITY (roman concept, dignitas)
      god = heaven (de facto humanism)
      ruler = subject (+- democratic/representative government)
      husband = wife
      parent = child
      older = younger
      client = customer
      friend = friend
      male = female
      CARE (+- universal concept)
      god < man (spirituality)
      ruler < subject (political accountability)
      husband < wife
      parent < child
      older < younger
      client < customer
      friend < friend
      (love your neighbor as yourself)
      male < female
      now switch respect to revolt ... ruler < subject
      dignity to contempt ... male < female
      care for hate... parent < child
      this is a collapsing society... basically 21st century

    Confucianism is a secular ideology not a religion like Taoism or Buddhism for example. It often just used other Chinese religions to help the state function.

    • @voidvector
      @voidvector 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are temples and rituals for Confucianism, but most Chinese people don't consider it a religion, simply a custom or belief.
      Based on my knowledge, Confucianism was elevated to a "religion" by Christian missionaries in the 1700-1800s, so it is easier for them to make Chinese converts unlearn non-Christian practices.
      Also worth noting, if the religions are not monotheistic, you can believe in as many of them as you want. So it is perfectly fine for someone to believe in all three major Chinese religions (Taoism/Buddhism/Confucianism) at the same time.
