My mother is a very devout Lutheran Christian but not in an extreme sense, like some circles of America. But more to the point; due to her devotion, she finds difficulty in accepting the idea of other figures of faith giving words of wisdom.
But I try to help her understand that sometimes, these people offer the same lessons the Bible teaches us; just in ways that some people can understand easier. What are your thoughts on this, if I may ask

This presentation of Confucianism is really well done! Having lived in Korea for three years I have adapted many of the principles of Confucianism automatically into my way of thinking and living. A Korean friend of mine was often astonished about how angry and disrespectful people can get in our western societies. In Confucianist societies you don’t show anger, you are always mindful in all your actions and show kindness to all people. Harmony, control of yourself, respect for the other in addition to never stop learning are the most important components of Confucianism, which in the long run will make us better persons.

I'm Korean and I was raised in S. Korea before I moved to the States, but the Confucian values have become toxic over time when it comes to family. Sometimes there are generational chains of toxicity that should have been broken long ago, but for the sake of "family" it ensues.

Happiness cannot be pursued; it must ensue. We must have a reason to be happy. The most profound wisdom I learnt from Viktor Frankl’s work.

    • @chow729
      @chow729 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You mean to say its conditional on some premises. I think millions of poor people achieve happiness without necessary conditions. V. Frankl premise of study were based on extreme human condition in the most dire state. People in concentration camps the one that faired better had sense of integrity in human dignity without personal gains.

I've comed to the conclusion that to find a reason to be happy is not the path to be happy. The path is to find your true nature which is pure love and, subsequently, peace and happiness will arise.

I second that thought. You, the creator of this video, make me feel certain things when I watch your videos. It feels genuine, heartfelt, and it doesn't feel like preaching, it feels like you're trying to help in places where it's really needed and not making it contingent on somebody else doing something for you but rather giving, out of compassion, out of love, and the realization that we are a communal species, we are all brothers and sisters, we are all part of this amazing experience, and in this together as one. Thank you.🙏

It is about controlling our expressions of anger, not never being angry. I think anger can be expressed without diminishing others or ruining our chances. When I actually find out how, I will share.

All those virtues are not natural. Some people are this way but some aren't. Having them suppress their true feelings creates unhappy people. Confident people should always say what they need.

"These three great Masters remained individuals. Once in a while somebody was impressed by their writings, but it remained intellectual, so there is no hope in the near future of Lieh Tzu, Chuang Tzu or Lao Tzu being born again in China, or their influence in any way changing the course of China’s history, because in fact they have never been of any great importance in China’s mind. Confucius and Lao Tzu were contemporaries. Confucius had even gone to meet Lao Tzu, because Lao Tzu was certainly a man of tremendous qualities. Confucius was a great thinker, but only a thinker. He had nothing as far as his own inner consciousness is concerned, no experience, no idea who he is, but he had planned for the society perfectly well, a very mannered, cultured society.
Hearing that Lao Tzu was nearby, living in a cave beyond the lake, he went to see him. A few of his disciples also went, but he told them, “You wait outside the cave.” They said, “Why? It will be good, we can listen.” He said, “You don’t understand. I will tell you the reason later on. Let me go first. If I feel it right I will call you in.”
They stayed outside, Confucius went in. Lao Tzu was sitting silently. He did not say to Confucius even to sit down, and Confucius was man of manners, etiquette. He had not expected that a great sage, Lao Tzu, would not even ask. He did not say hello or even hi - even that short form, “hi.” He simply sat down, looking at Confucius, and Confucius said, “Sir, don’t you believe in manners?”
Lao Tzu laughed. He said, ‘I thought you knew all the manners - what is the need for me to tell you? If you feel like sitting, you will sit down! You are not a man who does not know manners. If you like to stand up, it is my etiquette not to disturb you. You can stand up!” Confucius said, “But you… you did not even say hello.” Lao Tzu said, “I said it. You could not hear it. It was a test: I said it silently. I wanted to know whether the famous philosopher Confucius understands silence or not. So you understand only words - that much is decided! And you have expectations. You cannot sit down on your own, you have to be told. This cave does not belong to me. When I came here, nobody said ‘sit down,’ because nobody was here. Why should I say it? It is not my cave, nothing belongs to me. Just the way I am sitting, you can sit down. You are not a child to be told.”
Confucius had never met such a man. And on each point he was rebuffed badly. Then Lao Tzu said, “If you really want to learn anything, first go and renounce all the idiots you have collected as your disciples. You don’t know anything and you have thousands of disciples. It is hilarious! You just go and tell them the truth, that you don’t know anything, and then come, because I teach only if somebody does not know. If he knows it already, why should he bother me? An old man… Leave me alone!”
Confucius came out, and he had not the courage to say to his disciples that he did not know. He had thousands of disciples, he was the most famous man at that time. Very few people knew about Lao Tzu. Confucius has remained a shadow over the whole of Chinese history. It is only somewhere in the footnotes you can find the name of Lao Tzu.
Confucius was not courageous enough to say “I do not know.” The disciples said “You didn’t ask us to come in. He said, “It was good that I didn’t ask you to come in. And please don’t ask the reason. That man is not a man; he is a dragon. He is dangerous, avoid him as far as possible. This is my first and last meeting with that old guy!”
And he was perspiring. It was a cold morning and the cave was very cool, but he was perspiring. The disciples said, “But why are you perspiring?” He said, “I am alive - that’s enough! Just take me away from here.”"

great video, but there is one thing you did not mention about medition, in order to reap the benefits one must not focus on the benefits of meditation, one must be patient and not expect to feel better after 5 minutes of medition for the first time but make it a habit, practise everyday, then sooner or later you will know what it means, feel more happyness focus, less anxious or stressed out, be a better version of yourself, but this process could take months.

I don't think everyone is inclined by nature to be good. So I don't think some people care whether the means to their ends is good. They care more about the ends, not how they achieve those ends. If their means are good but their ends are failures, they will not be happy.

Regarding the Golden Rule: What if you don’t have family? In my case, almost all of them are dead. Many died young. What if you don’t have a partner either? Let’s say you were once engaged and it didn’t work out. You try redeeming yourself but….well I don’t want to have a pity party. What I’m asking is what do you do then? Thanks a lot everyone:-) Be blessed and happy

If happiness goes through family then I’m a hopeless issue. Sorry but my unhappiness is actually coming from my spouse since I never wanted to marry but in our culture one has no choice but accepting what you parents prepared for you. So I guess Confucius will not work for every person. :(

There is NO such thing as altruism. Treating people with respect and honest is NOT always returned. Confucianism is NOT realistic. Everyone is selfish and self-centered. Only the wise understand that self-protection begins with treating others with straightforwardness.

It's respectable and more compassionate to others if we all try to do the right thing, even when no one's looking. That's why mortal humans are given a conscience.......even criminal killers are given a conscience, they don't use it because they think of themselves as being above all others. Sociopathic thinking to justify the evil spirit inside themselves. Compulsions are the thoughts.......sins are the actions. They know better as they try not get caught.
