This story felt similar to when Gerald Ford moved his first televised press conference following his decision to pardon Richard Nixon for his involvement in the Watergate Scandal up an hour just so people, including Ford himself, could watch Monday Night Football from start to finish. A story that I learned from watching your channel.

This was one of Carter's greatest accomplishments but this happened mostly because of the courage of Sadat and secondly the willingness of Begin to give up the Sinai to make a deal. Sadat paid for his courage with his life.

Although you're rightly being very serious, there's a funny (and admitted to being at least partialy true) story about the talks. Begin was being really intransigent at first, not giving an inch, then suddenly he at least offered the possibilty of giving back the Sinai. Carter was happy at this, but also puzzled, so he asked why Begin had offered this olive branch. Begin smiled and said "Blame my wife. She put the radio on when we woke up, and of course, the first song was "Begin the Beguine". I just had to offer SOMETHING up after that". Collaspe of both men in giggles....

First off, RIP to President Carter.
Second, interestingly enough, this wasn’t the first time that you did a video about a Colts-Patriots game from the 1970s that ended in a monumental upset, as the Patriots won their first ever game against the Colts on December 19, 1971, 21-17, bumping the Colts down to a Wild Card.

What I remember is that after this game, Colt's head coach Ted Marchibroda said, "I'm not sure about Joe yet because he hasn't figured out our system." A reporter wrote the next day that maybe Marchibroda should learn Joe's system.

Couple of interesting facts about the US boycott of the 1980 Olympics, Russia responded 4 years later by boycotting the LA Olympics, and the reason for the boycott was because Russia invaded Afghanistan who was directly involved with 9-11. Anyway, RIP President Carter, I didn’t know much about what he did as I was only 3 years old when he was elected, but he was a pretty decent president and a great humanitarian

  • @marcus813

There was no such thing as streaming back then, so preempting a significant portion of the game discussed here would've been a huge issue. Until I watched this video, all I was aware of regarding Carter's impact on sports was the massive boycott of the Summer Olympics in the USSR (the Eastern Bloc retaliated when Los Angeles hosted 4 years later).

Anyone else notice Baltimore Colts scheduled in 2 of first 3 Monday Night Football telecast to start 1978 campaign? Other was 38-0 fiasco of a season opener at Texas Stadium. Bob Irsay's sabotage of his own franchise was off to a rousing start. Jimmy Carter also threw out first pitch at deciding Game 7 of 1979 World Series which did not end well for my Orioles.

This deal is one of the reasons the US gives military aid to Isreal and Egypt every year since.
The initial decision to make the announcement at 9 pm shows how inept Carter was at public relations. This was an era where you saw an NFL game live or you did not see it. The story of theannouncement of the Camp David accords was not going to change no matter when announced.
I alsp deeply resented Carter as a child for that announcement as he also pre-empted the premeire of the Battlestar Galactica movie on TV.
