I'm transitioning away from nursing and into a rev-cycle/HIM career. I think one of the biggest questions for me was 1) What was making me unhappy in my old job? 2) What do I want in a new job? The answer is different for everyone, and sometimes it's not easy to spot. It took me years to find my priorities, but I figured out that 1) I prefer to work alone 2) I wanted to be remote so I can travel or live in beautiful natural places where there typically aren't any available jobs. I hope that person finds their path!

Hi Andrew! Thank you for sharing your story! Yes, sometimes it is hard to know what the answers are to those questions. Sometimes it is even harder to even dare ask these questions as people are so dependent on their paychecks and their perceptions of who they are based on their careers. A change is never easy, but it usually benefits us. As a nurse, you will make a quick and easy transition into a remote, lucrative field by taking on coding. :) Nurses are always needed in HIM and are valued for their knowledge. (Never sell yourself short in this industry as a nurse!!) I wish the best to you during this change! :)

@@TheMedicalCodingGuild I agree. Asking the question is half the battle. Even forming the "right" question is a major achievement. I have a theory that when you form an insightful question, you are actually forming part of an answer too.

@@AndrewDoe777 That's exactly how it is! That's why I don't like when people start their questions with: 'I have a stupid question, but...' There is no such thing?!
