I live at 4,500 elevation and love these new smaller, high gas mileage, low rpm peak torque, high mpg turbo engines. I don't know what everyone complains about. Great power, great mileage, and not really any power loss as you gain in elevation. Plus low rpm peak torque is more usable for daily driving than engines you have to wind up.
+Jeff K it's more of a tradition that Porsche has established and people don't like the derivation from the tradition. Many buyers of these cars don't live as high up as you do (and likely won't go up that high) and don't need the extra low end push. Also if you're in the market for a Porsche, odds are there's disposable income for gas too
+Jeff K That might be good for you that likes Turbo's. I hate them. I have nothing against Porsche making Turbo's but leaving buyers like me out of the picture is just insane at best. Every car in their range barring the GT3 is going to be Turbo. I call that insane. I have an older GT3 and I only use it on the track and I was considering getting a road car like a base 911 but that now might be out of the equation. I currently have an RS5 as my road car and I was considering changing it next year but now I do not know what to do.
@@tumim661 I will be getting American V8 now to replace use along side by RS5 which I will be keeping. I am now considering buying a classic Porsche such as a 993 or 964 and getting one of them rebuilt to factory standard like new.

+Jonka Olofsson Good god, yes, she is pretty but nothing special. Not worth mentioning it, unless you live under a hole and don't meet any people. LOL This is supposed to be a car review.
Great review - this is better than most other reviews for the new 911. As a 911 driver I truly get the issue of losing that amazing zingy engine and the stomach tingling feeling you experience when you get over 4K revs. But I guess this is the first model of a new turbo generation and their will be imperfections as the technology develops. I am sure Porsche will make it better in the next iteration, like they did with electric steering which everyone has stopped talking about after the 2nd attempt.
Really great review. Love the details that i would have normally missed like the black selector on the steering wheel and your assesment on the new turbo 4. Great review!
This is easily one of the most carefully nuanced car reviews I have ever seen/heard. You can tell Rebecca Jackson is providing a professional driver and 911 fangirl perspective to the new 911 as a product. Peak torque at 1700rpm?? I always thought Porsche understood the average 911 owner (which is not me) and build the 911 with this in mind, maybe no more?
Best Rebecca video under Telegraph Cars so far. I could tell she was really happy to drive this 911. This is the Rebecca I know from Carbuyer. However, the audio when she talks should be improved, but the audio guy is responsible for that, not Rebecca.
I really like the lines and shape of this new 911, its like they have gone back to some of the older looks but with new technology, looks like a very nice car and suits the silver and i also think a 7 speed manual gearbox car like this is good for the driver and environment as you can short shift gears for eco driving or use all the gears and revs to safety overtake and keeps the driver engaged with the car and makes you drive it. (yes i hate all automatic cars) nice review, beautiful car. would be nice if you could show us under the bonnet (or boot in a 911) to see the engine. Thanks..
The latest 911 is just beautiful, but the most beautiful thing about it is the manual gear shift. I hope Porsche will offer it for as long as possible.
One thing I've always hated in some vehicles is the colour change from say the red to the dark grey in the interior as in this Porsche 911. I find it cheapens the interior look, I mean think about how much time you spend inside. I drive a turbocharged Fiat 500 and she has an all black interior and let me say it looks far more rich than the 2 toned of this Porsche.. Just my 2 cents.. By the way great review and yes the young lady is quite vroom vroom as well.
+Spike Club That's unnecesarily sexist and I don't see any reason whatsoever why you should say that. You wouldn't be saying that if it were a man doing that same thing.
+Juan Berjón I just say the exact truth and would she be a man, you would all agree this is a very boring, old school review with nothing interesting whatsoever
Yes, I do agree that it's not the most entertaining review to watch, personally I'd much rather go for Chris Harris or Henry Catchpole's, but I still feel that had it been a man, you'd simply say it's boring and not that he doesn't know or understand. I guess in order to become a motor journalist, she must love cars as much as anybody here.
+Spike Club Totally agree with you. If it was a man I'd be pissed of because it would be dull and he'd be unattractive to me. At least she's very good looking so the memorized manuscript reading is bearable.
king of youtube I highly doubt your parents would buy you a $200000 car which is basically a death machine for a 16 year old. I don't think you have any concept of money either and how hard it is to obtain the amount needed for this car.
+Sinky Seriously!? Do you not know that the 911 is the most famous rear engine car there is!? Yes rear engine not mid-engine +Andrew Lewer. Obviously you don't know what mid-engine is...
+Zac Kirstein Yeah I just wondered if they had went ahead and changed that after all this time. I'm not much of a Porsche fan as you can tell. I was just wondering if you got extra luggage space under the bonnet at the front.
This is a move in the right direction, sooner then later all vehicles will be turbocharged, supercharged or maybe both. While it's probably faster then the F-type S, with the addition of small back seats, extra gear in manual, nicer interior and more power, the price difference is considerable for base models and with some options it could be more.
+coawler oz Also, the 991.2 facelift engines have not much in common with the 991.1 or 991.2 Turbo and Turbo S engines. Two (almost) completely different engines with different turbo chargers (VTG chargers for the more powerful 911 Turbo/Turbo S).
+CandyHam The 911 Turbo is their super car. It is more or less the fastest 911 they have. The base 911 turbo is all about going green and has nothing really to do with their performance.

Nice review. You sit WAY too close to the steering wheel - airbag would do some serious damage to that pretty face if it deployed. You should give youself a couple more inches. These turbos will be very tune-able - prob simple stage 2 tunes will be providing 500hp...
I think the 911 for me is the non-S version, manual, added options of my choosing. I want to smaller engine so i could rev it all day without being too fast on the road. Not to mention 911's long gears.
I don't get it with all these modern reviews. I work in the motor trade and I'm fortunate enough to have driven some of the latest cars and not once have I thought "even though this new car is faster, more technologically advanced, higher quality and nicer in every way, I would really prefer the older slower worse model" You wouldn't order an amazing steak meal and then ask them to throw it on the floor to make it a bit worse. I Like Rebecca as a reviewer and everyone is entitled to their opinion although I feel a lot of journalists jump on the bandwagon and say the classic line "it lacks compared to the old model" or something along those lines.
Thank you for your comment David, to be honest David I don't really see how its far fetched. As I said if something is better in ever possible way then how is the older model relevant. E.G. Apple Iphones/ Samsung S series. It's a Porsche 911 not something special like a F40. That aside who are you to dictate what is useless and whats not you narrow minded man. Good day to you.
Not a bad car, tachometer still at the center, and the dash layout is very good aesthetically (sans that center iPad screen). The double exhaust is also an improvement in the S model, because quadruple exhaust for a 6-cylinder engine just does not computer mathematically. Manual stick is a nice touch too, however I doubt if it's any more than Logitech shifter for Play Station, since Porsche "manuals" have been drive by wire since 2001 911 Turbo, or earlier. Aside from these nice touches, there's not much to rave about. Sure, cleaner is better, but I'd still opt for 1987 Carrera 3.2 instead, which had everything right. Sure, people didn't like the accordion bumpers, but to me they're fine, and as much of an icon of the 911 as it could be (I think Volvo 760 had similar accordion bumpers, and was a fantastic car, too, but I digress). Yes, something is missing in the new 911. Nissan GT-R seems far more exciting than this.
Nice coverage of the new 911! I enjoyed it, however, while standing on a muddy road I couldn't help but get this tingly feeling down my back hoping that she wouldn't dare drive the car with muddy boots. :-)

Well done Porsche! Not everyone lives at sea level... we lose 20% of car performance when at altitude. What a pleasure to have a more powerful and fuel economic car... thank you Porsche
Not quite an honest review, she's trying to frame the car in a certain direction as the engine doesn't have that 'outburst of power' higher up in the rev range as previous Carreras. I had a 997 Gen 1 as a 3.6 and there was never any sudden and razor sharp increase in power or acceleration anywhere in the rev band, rather a continuous and linear build of of power and speed. She's trying hard not to grin from ear to ear at 3:05 when preparing to describe the lack of excitement, hardly able to hide her own. Must be an awesome car.
Hmmm.. although I do quite like this new model, it would be quite the time to invest in a 997.2 or perhaps even the 991. For the everyday Porsche driver (dentists, doctors), they would probably actually appreciate these changes. Of course the enthusiasts will not be happy, but turbocharging a car makes it more efficient--efficiency is surely the future. So if you don't like the idea of a turbocharged 911, but an older model.
