Like to thank you for your video and how you explain each section as your went along I am fully restoring my 1969 Beetle and as I stripped it some 12 months ago have forgotten how to replace the parts. You took the hassle out of my project. I am not only a Female but 72yrs. old and looking forward to driving her. Your Beetle looks great.
Thank you for making this informational video, It saved me allot of grief in disassembly and reassembly. I appreciate you and those that take the time to make these videos. I'm sure I speak for many others who typically don't comment (like me).
thanks for this video dude. ive got a 67 with one piece windows but i prefure having the vent window. ive been told by many folk that removing and installing the scrapers is a real pain but after watching your video, im now less nervous about tackling the job of switching back to how vw intended. ive got two 2nd hand doors as parts donors but i will be obtaining new scrapers.
I really enjoy watching your videos. This brings back so many memories of when I had to disassemble for a repaint not to long ago. Unfortunately at the time I needed to replace the trim but didn't have the funds to do so. So I'll be looking forward to doing this again sometime soon. Nice to have a refresher of the procedure.
Between youtube and TheSamba, I can pick out your avatar pretty quickly and usually read/watch that first. I appreciate the time and effort you put into passing on your knowledge to those of us that are learning. So far you have been along side me while I change the Shift Rod Bearing and now my window seals, not to mention lots of other tips on smaller stuff. Thanks!
liked the except for the camera work but, one question i have a 65 which is pretty much the same and am doing the same, but, on the vent window. you didnt show how to replace that seal.? i not sure how to get the glass part off the frame,, do i drill out the pivot pin, , the pins on the frame, etc........
Im interested in knowing more about the baily channel you bought, what year nissan car is the baily channel (size) for? i have a 1974 VW beetle that needs baily channel, etc. You have some really great information. I'll be relying on this video and also the other one you put up on installing the window regulator system. Appreciate you sharing the videos, thanks from san antonio texas!
very helpful video u do great work , i have a 72 beetle & a 71 Vw camper van or bus for a better word & there the best cars on the road in my opinion , your beetle is a great car good amazing , soon i'm putting videos on my projects on youtube . thankls again for the upload . great work
Thank you for this most informative video. Is the Bailey channel in the door vent upright the same width as the channel that runs around the top of the door and down the opening side? I am in South Africa and I am battling to source the channel.
Thanks, it actually is a HD camera I'm using, I just don't upload them in HD as it makes the shakeyness seem even worse. I'll probably buy a better camera soon, it's just hard when they get so knocked around and greasy when working on the cars.
Hi zoopzoop, I haven't seen one but you can use this video as it's only missing a couple of steps. The glass and quarter window need removing the same as in this video, then when they are out the 2 bolts either side of the winder handle need removing, the one in the center of the door at the top which I only loosened off needs removing and the lower bolt which was removed to get the glass out. The regulator will now be free and able to be removed from the door.
No worries, I would recommend replacing as much of the rubbers as you can while it's apart unless they are in reall good shape. Nothing worse than cold air and water leaking in through old rubbers.
Thanks for this useful video! But I do have one question. Where did you find that Nissan/Honda felt? The felt I keep buying is heavy and hard to work with. Plus, it gets dinked up easily, which make the window extremely hard to roll up. Please let me know.
@@BoostedVW - No worries, I'll keep looking. Keep up the great work on these videos. I've never owned a beetle until now, and your videos really help me know how to restore my bug. Be blessed!
Meanwhile, YEARS Later.... I am changing out my inner and outer scrappers, and my pop-out windows on my 1970. I have gone to the Cali look of no chrome. Like yours, my outer scrappers are still chrome. What did you use to blacken them, and was there any real prep work to do it? Thanks for all you do! If you don't see this...I'll never know... :-) LOL! David
Unfortunately no, they sit just below the stock hole and need 2 screws put into the doors for mounting. I had to put a blanking plug in the hole, they also stop the quarter window swinging open all the way. They look great but I wouldn't recommend them
Are those Enkei RS-6 rims? If so, what wheel adapter did you use to go from the 4 lug VW to the universal pattern for the Enkei wheel? Thanks for the video. I am working on the same thing right now.
Steve Standefer the wheels are speedy Lite-7, similar to RS6 but have an extra spoke. I don't use adapters, they mess with the track width and are illegal here in Oz, I've just got brakes with 4x100 stud pattern
Hmm. Did the lite-7 have the proper wheel pattern? I picked up a set at a swap meet and the pattern did not match as I want them too. I just need to find a wheel adapter.
My windows on my 69 are extremely difficult to roll up. I have broken my window regulator twice now. Are the seals the problem or do you think it may be something worse than that? I have not replaced the seals in the 4 years I have owned the car.
Hi, is it the actual winder mech thats breaking or the handle? If its the winder mech which part is breaking? Windows that are stiff to wind up is usually the rubber channel is just old and turned very hard making it hard for the glass to slide in it or the tracks/guides are worn out.
The window is difficult to roll up. The winder mech part is breaking due to the window not wanting to slide up. Is there a way to fix the winder mech without buying a new one?
Okie93 I'm wondering if the new winder mechs have plastic cog/gears in them. If you disconnect the window from the winder mech is it hard to move up and down by hand?
Ben, did you ever find that Nissan/Honda felt? The felt I keep buying is heavy and hard to work with. Plus, it gets dinked up easily, which make the window extremely hard to roll up. Please let me know.
@shazamhawaii Glad the video is helping people. I try and order most of my parts through Australian sellers but what I cant get I order through CIP1 in the US, they have great range and overseas posting is not a hassle.
The car project is a 100% complete restore almost at the end.. I used German trim, but could not line up or push in holes. I could not get my fingers in place to push or line up so I removed them. The clips hold the top and back of the trim and the vent window hold the front. I gave up, but thanks for the video because I know that I was doing the right thing. And I and not a quitter. Go figure
I wasn’t sure if you meant the Bailey channel clips along the top and back or the scraper trim clips along the bottom. I always put the inner scraper in last to give a bit more room to get your fingers in there
yea the Bailey channel clips no problem, I’m gonna try one more time on the driver’s side this time and hopefully I can get all the scraper trim clips to go in. it is not suppose to be this much trouble
please in the future try not to move the camera so much. i feel motion sick like i got off a tilt a whirl after a case of really cheap beer and a gallon of jack daniels. you could set the shot up at a distance get the bulk of whats going on and then slowly bring it in for necessary close ups. it would look so much better and be easier on the stomach. not to mention easier to see what you're doing. you have great information in this video a lot of people can use. just need to learn how to shoot video so its watchable. i see your apology but wow. lol.

Just wanted to say this video has been really useful - thanks for your clear instructions!
Excellent work, explanation and demonstration! Good find on the Bailey rubber substitute!

Hi, yes it’s the same style for both pieces.
If you have a sample try looking looking at 80s and 90s Nissan.

Hi David I gave them a quick scuff down then a coat etch primer then some gloss black enamel.
@@BoostedVW great! I appreciate the information. Once Dorian passes, I am on it. :-)
Awesome job very helpful doing my 1970 bug next weekend
thank you for this video, my seals are perished and i didn't know where to start on replacing them.
@dpsilver1 yeah full kits, just look on ebay or google universal power window and central locking kits. they are very basic, quality varies.
When installing the wing side seal that the windows moves , is the felt different than the felt that goes around the rest of the window?
No its the same stuff
I forgot to mention I purchased on ebay from the saler rubbertherightway
How did you black our the trim? I've been wanting to do this on all the window chrome. starting w/ a set of pop out windows
Hi, I just rubbed it back first, etch primed then hit with a good quality gloss black enamel, been done 5 years now and holding up well
where did you get the mirrors they look great
Randy Lucas thanks, they're vitaloni California, I picked them up on eBay about 12 years ago.
They look great but are fairly useless for visibility
do they cover the existing hole correct without modification? also thanks for the reply awesome bug man
Unfortunately no, they sit just below the stock hole and need 2 screws put into the doors for mounting.
I had to put a blanking plug in the hole, they also stop the quarter window swinging open all the way.
They look great but I wouldn't recommend them
Cheers. Power windows and door locks are just aftermarket kits, VWs were never flash enough to have anything like that.

Okie93
which part of it is breaking?
I believe it to be the coil. The gear in the mech that grabs the coil seems to be stripping out.
Okie93 I'm wondering if the new winder mechs have plastic cog/gears in them.
If you disconnect the window from the winder mech is it hard to move up and down by hand?

Hi,
What did u use to paint your chrome black?
Hi Earl, I gave them a quick scuff up then etch prime and a few coats of polykote which is like Por15
Oh ok thanks.
U got good tips and info helps out a ton :)
VERY well done. I am using this to help me put my doors together.
Very good video, thanks for putting it up.
Where do you get door mirrors? Could let me know
Alonso N mine aren't vw mirrors, they're Vitaloni Californias I got off eBay but stock mirrors can be easily bought from any vw shop like cip1
Thanks for the instructions very good and heaful
just followed your guide, very helpful thanks!
Excellent video. Really helpful, thank you!
What year is your bug?
Dezmon Eibensteiner 1974 super beetle
Good info brother. Thanks.
It's no biggy just make sure the bottom of the door is nice and clean not full of dust and dirt, and make sure the 2 drain holes are clear.
I’d assume a 66 is about the same?
Should be pretty similar, we didn’t get that big window upgrade in Oz until 1968 so I’ve never had one like yours apart to confirm.
