    Beautiful guitar-- hope you are able to get it sorted out. I bought a KM7 when they first came out and the low B had a terrible ringing to it. Honestly sounded like fret buzz but it absolutely was not coming into contact with any frets (would also go away if I tuned up OR down a bit-- as if it was something resonating at that specific pitch). Sent it back to Sweetwater and they returned it with the same issue. To Sweetwater's credit though, they agreed to reimburse me to have a local tech do the work. He ended up doing a bit of filing on the nut and the saddle and it's been my main since. Good luck!

    Just another data point -- I have the AM-6 and it doesn't have this issue, and it was almost perfect for me out of the box. I preferred slightly lower action and a little tweak of the truss rod and lowered saddles and it is playing like butter -- no fret buzzing or extraneous sounds whatsoever. This is an amazing guitar!

    That noise is from the saddle area. That little gap of string before it goes through the body. Putting a little foam before you string it up gets rid of it. Used to have that problem on a keith merrow too.

    Please read if you’re having the same issue!!! I almost traded / sold my Schecter SLS Elite C-1 for the exact same issue. I bought it second hand and was out of time to return. I tried all of the same trouble shooting as he did. Weirdly enough, filing down the nut for that string fixed it. I understand the graph tech nut was replaced, but it definitely sounds like they had a bad batch of graph tech nuts. My guitar has the Ernie ball compensated nut. I tried multiple string sets of different sizes and gauges, and the nut always appeared to hold the string comfortably with no issue, but filing it down so it could fit in a little lower made the issue completely disappear. My tech said this is commonly overlooked and a fairly common problem with nuts now a days. I can’t be completely certain it was his issue but definitely try that if you’re in the same boat! It sounds like this is the only thing that wasn’t tried and it is what fixed my issue 🤞

    you probably have a single fret a little too high and it’s probably somewhere around the 17-24th fret, sometimes guitar companies don’t press down a fret all the way to the bottom and the middle section is a little too high, that would explain why you’re only getting the D string, because it’s in the middle of the fretboard. You’re obviously damping the springs and the nut so it’s gotta be a single fret sticking out.

    • @Plant_Based_Riffs
      @Plant_Based_Riffs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good thought, but I was told by the dealer that they level the frets by hand once they hit the states, and even after my tech worked the 19th fret (which was actually high for sure) the problem was still there.

    I've had this happen before on a fixed bridge guitar, and I think it was from random machining errors regarding the tolerances of bridge components. I replaced my nut and bridge at the same time, so I only narrowed it down that far. But it was gone

  • @flaco216
    @flaco216 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi, generally this specific problem (open D string ringing) happens on guitars with a two point tremolo (like a fender or a floyd rose) in a floating setup. As far as i can see this specific guitar has a recessed cavity, so I guess your bridge is floating. Try to block the bridge using some wood on the bridge block (dive only setup, with the springs tight) and see if the problem is related. In a floating setup, with a light and resonant bridge, microvibrations on the bridge itself can produce strange resonances, especially on open strings

    • @Plant_Based_Riffs
      @Plant_Based_Riffs  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Plant_Based_Riffs Sorry to hear that! so considering that you have already muted the strings on the headstock and you have a totally different bridge (no springs etc..) on the seven string variant, the other cause can be faulty pickups or, if you can hear the problem unplugged, the trussrod not firmly inserted inside the neck (east manufacturers using exotic woods generally). In this scenario it can vibrate and catch particular resonances. Good luck for your guitars!!

  • @DaveZnoise

I’d like to add that Aaron himself messaged me himself to apologize about the issues. I am very glad that he too can hear that it’s not a normal quality for a guitar to have. He called it “very strange” and “very very rare.” And I agree with him completely. I do understand that guitars have extra ringing and imperfections occasionally - that’s why they sound the way they do, right? :) Some of it is quite charming. I’m

      Were there any factors like bridge material or neck design or neck angle that stood out. My only guitar that doesn't do it has an angle neck with a gotoh tuneomatic bridge, but the bridge is a replacement. It could just be random as well

  • @mickenilsson
    @mickenilsson ปีที่แล้ว

    I've gotten this problem sometimes when the bridge saddles are in a certain distance from each other, and they're just barely touching when the guitar resonates. Try to make sure the saddles are definitely touching each other, just hitting the top or bottom saddle slightly from the side with a hard rubber hammer or with a standard hammer with a piece of cloth in between.
    The other thing it can be, is that the string is ringing from the distance of the string insert to the saddle. This can be helped by simply changing the strings or just loosening them up, pull them out a bit and then wind it up again.
    Guitars are strange beeings and I've seen it all ❤️💯🌹

    I don't have THAT problem with that guitar but: While the guitar is GREAT when it comes to look, the neck profile and feel and, most importantly the sound, on mine, the factory setup was horrible. I noticed quickly that the setup would require more elaborate work. Brought it to my favorite luthier, and he pointed out the problems: Neck horribly adjusted (bow), nut slots not filed deeply enough, and there is a design problem with the bridge: The strings run over the edges of the hole in the base at an angle, and so the wound strings run into friction there, which causes tuning instabilities. This would be very very hard to fix.
    So its another 100-150 bucks for my luthier to correct the setup. Quote: "The string action is pretty much unplayable" (that's what it felt like). It's such a good sounding and pretty guitar, but omg... the setup...

    I wonder if it has something to do with having such an ultra resonate one piece wenge neck . The D string hum rings out like a bell . It seems like harmonically it's not transferring its tone where it should be . Possibly the truss rod is contacting the neck in a certain way that's causing a buzz on the d string .

      @@Plant_Based_Riffs Yeah...you may be right. It is really puzzling. It has to be something that is in contact with the string, right? If you follow the string contact path - trem block, saddle, nut, tuning machines - it has to be one of those things. I will be posting a follow up video soon fully explaining everything, but I’m waiting on a reply to some questions. I agree that overtones do happen on all guitars in a way that is normal, musical, charming, and acceptable. So I just asked schecter “do you find the overtones created on the D string of these guitars to be normal, musical, charming, and acceptable before and/or after you guys worked on them?” no response yet. They did work on my AM6 and my AM7 that had the same issue.

It has a gummy pickup selector and pretty stiff pots, just like any cheap metal/shreddy guitar, but the gotoh 510 is great, the neck setup pretty well for the actual playing side of things. @@Plant_Based_Riffs wow I’m so intrigued by this issue. Reason being is that I bought a Fender player series bass. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of this but every once in a while, due to the wood in the neck the frequency of the C note on the G string ONLY, would die out Quickly and the way my local Sam ash guy rectify the situation, was to get a clamp and clamp the head stock, which intern prevented the wood from vibrating I guess. I don’t know, I still don’t get it. I’m not a sound guy and I knew nothing about frequencies but dammit if it didn’t work. Lol. But with your schecter, it sounded sort of metallic, but I saw that you muted out the springs so I guess the only other thought I have is there is a fret touching somewhere.
