I don't care what other people say. or may say.. They were not trying to be pretentious or be novelle Handels, they had just decided to reinterpret classical music in their own way, introducing the new technology of the age, including the moog. Personally , I find this is a hell of a nice video, : I see three young , talented, superb musicians enjoying themselves and offering the best of their ability. Keith is a cheeky devil forcing the other two to keep up with his speed but it's marvellous to see him smile, Long live Emerson Lake and Palmer. To me,( despite the 14,000 views, - that's ridiculous by the way) they are one , if not the one, of the most innovative and eclectic group of the seventies.
Gabriele 95 how can anyone have anything bad to say about these 3 virtuosos . They are among the best of all time and no modern music can ever come close to the skill and talent that these 3 possess.
ELP and Zappa were the only two truly gifted popular musicians of the last 50 years..the only reason SOME of the critics had a problem with them is because they played good music and the masses want to hear three chord rock..they were great
Living between the mid 60s and late seventies ,there was this incredible renessance period of music, some of the most incredible bands ever, unforgettable. ❤
the Barbarian changed my life forever. Hearing this Bartok composition , aged 10 years of age, I knew I just had to study music. Miss your musical energy Keith..thank you for your inspiration.
First saw ELP in 1971 and several times since then. At the time they were considered the standard of musician ship excellence by which all other bands were measured. The group yes opened up for them. However as much as I love yes there was really no comparison.

Thank God the camera finally found Palmer for the climax of this rendition. I don't worship at the altar of Emerson and most ELP vids tend to fixate on what I'd term to be his antics on stage. More pleasure (for me) is Palmer once again pounding those straight eighth notes on his bass drum...then going 'big band' with his late flourishes. Greg Lake was one cool dude though. Love me some ELP!
A live version of the first cut on their first album! As a long time ELP nut , I have never seen this performance before. The second half 'The Barbarian' was borrowed from a work by Bartok. That's another reason I love ELP, they appreciate and build off of the classics and at the same time, adding their own talents into the amazing mix.
1970 ? emerson aveva 26 anni, lake 23 , palmer 20 e quando mai troveremo dei ragazzini che fanno ste cose ? adesso ?!?!?! maddai ! epoca inarrivabile !!!!!
That car has a Belgian plate, and the entrance to the concert hall looks exactly like the Theatre 140 in Schaerbeek/Brussels. So I doubt that this was recorded in Zurich.
Trivia: The Moog used in this concert was borrowed from Mike Vickers (of Manfred Mann band), who was probably first Moog user and programmer in UK. Keith was fascinated with synthesizer technology when heard "Switched On Bach" in the record shop. When ELP got the funds from recording company, he acquired his own Moog.
I like the cute little way that the internet feed cannot keep up with their fingers or hands. Funny as shit. Keith, Greg and Carl outpacing 21st Century tech.... Kinda says it all !!!

ELP was a vulcano of inspiration for millions of people both then and now a days. It makes my heart warm and soft. Somthing good happened at that time..............
Once a journalist asked Keith: why, even if you had so many concerts all over the world with thousands and thousand people every time, did you have so few (or none) cover bands? And Keith answer was: maybe because our music was very complex... and difficult to play. This video is the evidence!
Have you come across Rachel Flowers' renditions of Keith's compositions? I suggest you do so if you haven't already. She played Endless Enigma at Keith's tribute concert. Absolutely brilliant.
And in the studio version Palmer's pounding with the alternating ride bell towards the end may very well be the first blast beat, now commonly identified with death metal and grindcore.

When ws the last time a rock drummerbroke out a brush...? So great to see this. Speaks to fearlessness of rock athe time.
The intro is probably the first stoner doom riff/tone ever produced
Black Sabbath came out that same year and it was even written in the late 60s so no, it wasn’t the first.
So the first stoner doom was written by Béla Bartók…
