I live in Alberta in one of the large cities, and I can testify that despite living in a province with abundant natural beauty, the apathy of the majority of people I know toward nature is just stunning. I think it comes of having an economy dependent on the violation of it.
That is true, I guess it comes with being an oil dependant economy. The crazy part is in this specific case, is that the species actually existed in a federally protected area!
Except that wouldn’t really be relevant since that area has been federally controlled, not provincially controlled, for 150 years now. Also you seem to just hang around the wrong people. Also also, the economy of the national park is dependent on tourism.
Unfortunately I think you are right and I completely agree with you. Seems like the overall Canadians believe that this country is massive and filled with all sorts of stunningly beautiful nature that can be sold for a pretty penny. Why not make money when there’s so much more of these trees, icebergs, natural resources, etc so it won’t make any difference. And even if it does, everyone else is doing it and getting theirs, so why shouldn’t I get mine! It’s a disgusting, heartbreaking mentality that is just plain wrong!Nature vs money? Money wins every time! It needs to stop. Thankful for this video and others as it really helps spread awareness, share knowledge and help others to see why this mentality change is so desperately needed. ❤ from Shannon in Ontario 🇨🇦
If Canada can't even do right by the people who already lived here, they sure as hell aren't going to do right by some animal they never heard of. So it goes.
I work in Banff National Park, and during the summers, I guide tourists up the Bow River in a 29ft long canoe. The Cave and Basin is always one of my talking points as we paddle by it. But you just gave me more material I didn't know about that I can now include on my tours from time to time. Thank you, sir.
Look at your channel grow! I started watching you @ 1.5k subscribers. It really wasn't that long ago. It makes me happy to see that the algorithm is working. Your channel is a gem. We really do love it. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to when you have 100,000+ subscribers. You deserve it with a channel like this.
Also want to say that I have a huge appreciation for the fact that it is Closed Captioned. I can turn it to Ukrainian settings and show it to my Ukrainian friends, and educate them about the mysteries of Canada. I really do find a lot of value in what you do, I am not just saying that.
I also live in Alberta and have been an avid conservationist my whole life. I have seen and experienced a tremendous apathy with a large segment of society towards conservation. Most of the people that fall into that group are city dwellers and immigrants.
Great production value on this video Son,.... Once the TH-cam algorithm catches up you're going to take off.../thanks for making a fresh video you just reminded me to set my notifications
A species of fish that only existed in one marsh in the entire world? I don't mean to sound indifferent or heartless, but it sounds like this particular species was already on its way out.
@@Urban_Atlas For the millions of years that this specific species of fish to exist there had to be a time when "that specific environment" existed elsewhere in many different places over millions of years throughout global climate change. "There are many other species around the world that have similar ranges?" We're talking about ONE marsh. River banks erode and change courses over time. Marshes come and go over thousands of years. It was not a specialized species, it was a species that didn't adapt with the slow but inevitable change of the environment. This last marsh was a "holdout" for a dying species of fish. Humans just bumped up the timeline.
@ my friend, not sure why you are getting worked up? There are literally species with even smaller ranges that this, look Up the devils hole pupfish. We don’t know for a fact where it existed in the past. There is quite a bit of research on this, check it out 👍
If I ever become Prime Minister of Canada, one of my legislative actions will be to implement a Species Survival Plan (SSP) for all native, invasive, feral, exotic, agricultural, domestic, and other category organisms found within Canada. It will be law to scientifically produce and maintain a SSP by an official Parliamentary committee, which covers all things relating to how it survives in both the wild and in captivity, a population and general health survey updated on a compulsory schedule, and an appointed non-elected member of government who is its official representative in democracy, capable of independent legal powers of conservator agency. Thereby, ignorance of imminent harm from government action will be impossible to conduct unless demonstrably justified by law. This shall apply equally to humans and all other species in Canada.
How did you get Parks approval to fly a drone over a wildlife overpass in Banff Park as in that last shot? It's only allowed for reseach and by permit. $25k fine otherwise.
@Urban_Atlas it would be interesting to know who filmed it. Very few research permits are granted, especially to research TransCanada Highway west of Banff. Lol
I’m embarrassed to be Canadian for the first time in my 70+ years! When will our government, society, law makers etc. stop destroying our beautiful country and all its inhabitants for monetary gain, entertainment, and urbanization? Another rare species destroyed for little or no gain! I AM ASHAMED TO BE CANADIAN RIGHT NOW!
I was in Alberta for a quarter century. I can tell you from first hand experience the patch has plenty of folks in power who don't GAF about the environment. They're in good company. Incidentally, I studied Law proper for a number of years. It would take several long paragraphs to explain how much we let ourselves get screwed by foreign bodies. The legislatures are all under UN control. Also, if you can find in their statutory instruments where the GOC defines even one square inch of land as representing Canada, go buy a lottery ticket. :)

Put some gold Fish into the swamp, problem solved, and prettier fish, better for Tourism? Right?

Anything the government gets involved in usually goes wrong eventually.

The epicentre of whirling disease in Canada is also in Banff NP, Johnson Lake.

It was highly specialized for that specific environment, there are many other species around the world that have similar ranges.
