The rescue of the squalus is absolutely incredible. The diver who was disoriented and impaired from the depth, but still managed to find the hatch and complete what is certainly the most critical part of the rescue attempt absolutely earned his Medal of Honor.

I am still stuck on the fact that this lady had maggots living in her arm.
Disgusting, but if you can bare with it, the worst thing that can happen is to get your limb amputated. I think.
Maggots are your friends. They keep you from developing gangrene by eating necrotic and infected flesh while leaving the healthy tissue alone.
@@mattislindehag3065 There are still things they do that are bad for you, right?
If you keep runing around in the wild with an open wound it will keep getting infected and more flesh will rot. Then the maggots will eat that flesh too and make your wound biger. Once the bad flesh is gone you should remove the maggots, clean and dress your wound properly and keep it clean. If taking proper care of your wound is impossible you should just keep the maggots because if you get gangrene the only way to save your life is amputation.

The actual footage of the under sea rescue says it all. Animations showing it are NOT the way to go here WHATSOEVER.

Ive owned many Boats throughout my life of all different makes ,models , and styles its always been one of my fears to find a Survival raft or boat out in open waters around 15 years ago when sailing around the Carribean Islands I spotted a bight Lymes colored item afloat in the distance my heart sunk as i steered in its direction to get a better look. It took about a hour and a half to get close enough to figure out what the item really was and it turned out to be a cluster of. Party balloons floating on the surface and i had a huge sigh of relief and a chuckle that it wasn’t a life raft with fellow Mariners that had troubles out at sea but just a group of silly Balloons that someone let go and had leaked enough helium for them to not fly any longer due to the danger those can have on Marine wildlife we did remove them from the water to properly dispose of them at a later time
Wow a nice person and an original comment, congratulations Sir. Just know I appreciate you removing the balloons at the end.
I also thank you for the turtle 🐢 you might have saved
Jody Collier Agree its too bad that the majority of people in the world don’t realize how much harm those balloons do to the animals i read a article about someone’s Cows dying because of Balloons landing on their Farm in a very remote area of West Virginia ?

His water purifiers were not broken, it took him a while to figure out how they work. He had to perfectly inflate them or else they wouldn’t work. He found this out by cutting one of his four purifiers open. His water purifiers lasted most of his time at sea other than the last couple of weeks.

One of my favorite episodes of "I Shouldn't Be Alive" I wish they would bring that show back!
The Thai cave rescue is like a historically defining moment for their culture. How resilient, positive, and outstandingly respectful they are. I wish the rest of the world could be a bit more like Thailand. They just seem like they have "being human" figured out...
I think you can find stories like that in any culture, in any time. Most heroes I know are soldiers, due to my research of military history. The soldiers of Rorke’s Drift and the Eight Hundred heroes are excellent examples of bravery in the face of death, and resilience in the face of massive numbers.
