I was placed in a medically induced coma twice in a month and a half. Once on December 6 2022 and once on January 20 2023. Both times were during a mental health crisis.
In December, i went into cardiac arrest twice, was on full body life support and had an NDE in which I saw a city, whose rough outlined buildings were surrounded by white light and shrouded in mist. I heard a voice say to me "it is not yet your time. You still have much to do. I will help you return home." When i woke up on December 13, it took six days to stabilize, while relearning how to swallow, eat and walk.
In January 2023, i had a similar incident and suffered respiratory arrest. My lungs became filled with fluid and my oxygenation level fell below 70% a few times.
I was on life support the second time as well and in the ICU both times as well. IF YOU ARE IN CRISIS, DON'T GIVE UP! It's not worth it.

The second one was the most serious as my kidneys failed and the rest were trying to fail. I was even on a ventilator to breathe. Not only do I have vivid memories of weird things that felt so real. From stories my friends told me, a lot of the weird memories seemed to be based on something that went on around me. I was in an induced coma for 8 days in 2017. I was dead when the paramedics brought me in, and the doctor resuscitated me and put me in a coma to save my life. He didn't truly believe it would work... but it was my only chance. Once he began to think I'd survive he didn't think I'd be "normal" if I woke up... but somehow I was and made a full recovery. It was scary though! The drugs they gave me to keep me under, plus oxygen and glucose deprivation of my brain, caused a drug-fueled 8 day/nightmare of hallucinations and delusions. I lived a whole nother life. Hearing and sight are still intact (as long as they don't tape down the eyes) so PLEASE be careful when around coma patients... they can hear you and maybe even see you! The scariest thing was that I was on a ventilator but didn't know it, and they tried to take me off of it too soon and I felt the suffocation.

I became clinically dead twice in 24 hours the first time. To say im lucky to be alive is an understatement. The total amount of time i was in a coma during that time was two weeks. Im still not 100% but im at least 90% now. Most obvious difference is an increase in ny seizure count and emotional difficulties. Otherwise, im the same. I only know this via people involved with the situations. Otherwise, i have no memories of any of it.

The thought of a rescuer potentially dying attempting to recover my body off the summit of Everest is horrible. I knew the risk and I decided to take it, losing a life for a body isn’t worth it and I’d be devastated to have someone else’s blood on my hands. Same goes for my family member, having their remains would be great but If things went wrong I couldn’t live with myself knowing my selfish want for remains took a life. I took someone away from their family and now they’re in the same position as me with no remains and no closure.

Being in a coma is like having sleep paralysis ten times worse, you're consciousness is awake you can hear and feel but you cannot respond back to anything because your brain has your body on shut down.

My uncle heads 3 aneurysms in his brain when they took care of the first one, he went into a coma. Now, when they took care of the second one that they found in the back of his brain. That's when he went into a heart attack.
Hey, finally the third one taken care of he was walking around with the third 1 in his head.

Regarding donating your body: At least in Maryland, it's just a short form you fill out, no blood tests etc. To donate organs, that's another matter. But most of that is after death.

And yes they hold breathe longer than ordinary people due to practical practice from their youth. Trust me that lower lung is not optimal by us but Bajau are expertise on this.
