The WORST refinishing job to fix! VINTAGE BAR CABINET MAKEOVER

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 17 เม.ย. 2023
  • This little bar cabinet I thought was going to be an easy(ish) flip, but it ended up taking DAYS longer than expected. I had some significant damage to repair from a prior refinishing and it wasn't looking very promising. I even wanted to give up at one point.
    But I'm glad I stuck it out.

      I considered that as well. Probably would suit better. I was just trying to use what I already had, where I overpaid for the piece and then spent a week redoing it. Haha. But yes, I was picturing those little round ones. :-)

    I have been using stain pens a number of years and i’m so happy to see you using your finger to even it out and touch it up because I have always use them that way and I see a lot of other flippers who take less time, they just color in with it like I felt tip marker and they don’t rub it in properly. I learned so much from watching you. Thank you for confirming that I have been doing it the right way.

    Yay second comment. Love this channel. Especially love your "REALLY cheap" refinishing video of that cabinet from a couple months ago. Rewatched it again and again. You used that eucalyptus paint and bondo to fill that broken corner, the missing edge banding, and the tracks for the doors - and paid $7 for it, I think. Rewatched it again and again. Also love the segment of you playing with your cat, and how you donated it to a charity-type thing.

    Seems like replacing the missing shelf would enhance functionality.

    I had to comment a second time....the reveal brought tears....the love and respect you had for this piece has created a work of art. Thank you for showing us what patience and love for the art brings to a final piece. This is stunning.

    I love your channel and your work. When I was in my teens, my dad bought a wood hull boat. The painter (his name was Harry) in the boat yard took me under his wing and schooled me in the art of refinishing the transom. It is an art and also a labor of love just like when you restore your pieces. I found that I had a talent for it, so much so, that people actually commented on how beautiful it turned out. That set me up with a passion for restoring wood furniture. I don’t do it professionally, as you do, but I’ve done quite a few pieces over the years. You are an inspiration! 😊

    So much work, but it's as if that little cabinet was almost crying with relief at the end over how beautiful you made it look. Its spirit was restored. I've said it before, I'll say it again - you're the wood whisperer.

    As a preservationist as well, I greatly appreciate the way you consider the impact to the next refinisher. It’s takes longer and adds little to resale value but shows your artistry. New to the channel so I’m trying to catch up on older vids.

    That wallpaper is from Target. Opalhouse is their bohemian/world-traveler decor line, and they made a number of re-positionable wallpapers with floral and foliage motifs.

    So I just realised I was watching this on my tv and commented on my phone band the comment ended up on a different person’s video 😂😂😂 anyhow… mad respect for trying to save this. I probably would have veneered the whole thing 😂. Was exhausted just watching you struggle with this piece lol

    • @TranscendFurnitureGallery
      @TranscendFurnitureGallery  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha thank you. Replacement veneer is sooooo expensive here that it almost makes it infeasible in all but the most extreme cases. I mean, yes, this was definitely extreme, lol, but still turned out ok. But I have one coming up where a lot of veneer is actually missing so I need to save it for that. Haha

    Angie, you’ve done it again! This sad little cabinet has had a Cinderella transformation. It, is going to the ball. Such patience and perseverance. My heart sank when I saw so much damage to the veneer. I truly doubted that you would be able restore it. I love how you were able to polish out the scratches on the brass handles. Love the shape of them by the way. I learned so much; thank you.🫡

I was so impressed with the way the handles turned out! Adding wheels was brilliant! Besides the wonderful restoration the wallpaper adds character on the piece! Keep it! The music in this video, especially the song playing around 9 minutes in, was actually so nice to listen to on 2x speed (nothing personal d: -- i watch most vids 2x, not just yours). quite refreshing when most music does _not_ sound good at double speed

    First of all, I am so pleased that you and your family got away for that exotic vacation. Second of all, please keep this little bar cabinet. It's unusual in its design. Third of all, you knocked it out of the park with the repairs and the colors you chose for it; such a rich brown on the veneer, such a brilliant solution for the inside.
